If something goes wrong, you are at the mercy of the owner for a refund. VRBO will not intervene on your behalf. You can’t even dispute with your credit card because the merchant is VRBO even though you are doing business with the owner. So no possible way for resolution without legal action. In these uncertain times, don’t rely on these scumbags in case something goes wrong. They take your money and run.

Buyer beware!! If your reservation is cancelled, even if for a national pandemic, even if done so by the property owner, you are NOT entitled to a refund. My reservation was cancelled by the property owner before my scheduled dates, I was not refunded, and the seller walked away with my money. I was only offered a partial credit toward my next stay. I opened a case with Vrbo and they just cowered behind the seller’s cancellation policy. Vrbo won’t even refund me the service fee. C’mon!! Horrible customer service and by far the worst experience I’ve had with a vacation rental company.

”OMG” This property was FANTASTIC. It was clean, plenty of room, the location was perfect. We loved everything about this house. When it was time to leave? We didn't want to leave. That tells you we had a wonderful time. The owner was also helpful to work with, I had several questions and she responded quickly each time. Thank you for the wonderful stay I will be back.

We’ve used Vrbo a lot in the past, however this version is buggy. I put in dates and the number of people, but it still shows listings that are fully or partially unavailable for our dates. What’s the point? Also, if you've put in dates for your search already, but go to your board for that same search, it pulls up completely different dates. Air BnB, here I come!

The worst VRBO ever!!! Their manager “ Dennis “ was not only extremely unhelpful. He was actually lacks any compassion and is obtrusive, cruel and rude!!! Wow!!! I have never seen anything like it in my life!!! Not only did he chastise me for asking a question Saturday pm about a Saturday pm check in... saying it was “ inappropriate “ to call our “ guest contact “ on a Saturday pm regarding a “Saturday pm” checkin. He subsequently placed ALL my concerns and emails in “the spam” category... Saying he requested that my concerns would be placed as such. Perhaps he is better served by applying for a M-F 9-5 job where strengths are listed as no compassion whatsoever and generalized lack of consideration and overall rudeness. Wow!! Where is the representation for paying VRBO customers??!! I have tried to find another forum to tell my side of the story... as a paying/paid customer of VRBO without success. Although I agree his/Dennis ‘ assessment that the facility he represents is NOT a good match( yes I work in a service industry for over 30 years... and I have NEVER put a person’s concerns in the “ spam/ junk file!!! So I guess I expect better when someone else is “ on the clock.” I only want to save others who might have the great misfortune of making the mistake we did and encountering “ Dennis” at 1069 Creekside Ogden UT the trouble. Please!!! For your own sake do NOT do business there!!! Book another place I. The Ogden UT area!!!!

We are scheduled to arrive Saturday after hurricane Sally the property manager Lina is giving us a run around about getting a full refund The CIC is stating extreme power outages Bridges closed internet down ‘ cable down major beach eroding , all restaurants closed school closed and do not drink the water it’s no safe and this lady is not cooperating she is saying if the owner of the unit has received the money then she can not give us a refund this will be the first and last time we will use VRBO

On iOS this app seems to provide no ability to limit location tracking etc... to only while you are using the app. This is presumably because they are selling all of your information. I will be deleting this app as soon as our trip is over. Would be nice to be able to filter by property features for example King Bed or Washer/Dryer. VRBO services charges are high enough that they could provide better service. We arrived at our property to find no cell service so the app had very limited information available. Be warned.

I tried to book a place. Owner was great but the place wasn’t what we expected so we both agreed to cancel three hours after I booked. Vrbos system is impossible to navigate. The customer service agents are incredibly unhelpful. All time bad. Don’t use this service. So bad

They make it easy to book and get your money but when you want to cancel things do not work (help does not work, chat does not work and no one to contact even the phone they just dropped me off). I used to be a customer of HoneAway (now they are Verbo) but I will have to to find somebody who is trustworthy. Unbelievable! Very unprofessional.

The first place I tried to rent allowed me to book and then I received a message from the owner saying his calendar wasnt up to date please cancel. So I did. The next place I tried to rent said give the owners 24 hours to respond. They never did, so it auto cancelled me. The third place I (am hoping to rent) has the perfect number of rooms in the perfect location says “ not suitable for children”. Im finding it so difficult I may end up renting hotel rooms for 16 ☹️

I had a TERRIBLE experience with this company. The property manager used false pictures, as well as did NOT follow CDC guideline. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get into contact with anybody. They speak little to NO English and they continue to give the run around. Cheaper isn’t better. Stick with AIRBNB. I would give 0 stars if possible.

I honestly thought they would process the payment from my account. And I have a received a message from the property manager that if I didn’t make my payment she will cancel. There are so many ways to say or write a message like maybe send me a reminder.... no she basically threatened me. “IF YOU DONT PAY I WILL CANCEL YOUR RESERVATION AND YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR MONEY”

I got an email 22 hours before my trip saying that the unit was not available. Very unprofessional to cancel last minute. They should have known and removed this property off their list. I had booked a 3 bedroom house with private pool and they were trying to move my reservation with a 1bedroom with a shared pool, NO THANK YOU! Will never consider booking through this app ever again.

We recently made a reservation for a cabin that had mice. We noticed just a few hours after our arrival and notified the owner right away. The mice got into our food and they never sent anyone to try to take care of the situation. The owner tried to blame us and refused to give any kind of discount. Vrbo can’t do anything about it. We will never make reservations through this app again.

My fiancée and I just left this cabin from an incredible 2 night stay. I have been on a lot of vacations, including Puerto Rito and this was my best vacation ever. Everything from the cabin, to the bar, to the nature was perfect. We will for sure return. We don’t ever want to vacation anywhere else.

Twice I’ve booked things that were canceled most likely because things were double booked. I was left in the lurch each time at the last minute. My friend just went through the same experience. That’s three for three with Vrbo having terrible property owners and surprising you at the last minute. I would suggest trying anything else other than Vrbo.

We rented a house through VRBO in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. Halfway through the stay we discovered a surveillance camera inside of the rental property, watching us. VRBO did not care, customer service is nonexistent. No refund despite our privacy being violated and VRBOs own policies being violated. Do yourself a favor and never use VRBO. If I could give negative stars I would.

I would like to recommend VRBO to require their rental owners to be more specific when they say ‘fully stocked’ kitchen. To me, that means condiments, sugar, or if you supply popcorn, more than one serving when you have multiple people. I think a product feature that offers some guidelines of what fully stocked means to the owner so we aren’t surprised home by home that we rent with its meaning. It lessens the experience to goto a home that says fully stocked when it isn’t from other rental experiences and the closest grocery store is triple the normal cost for ketchup, mustard, syrup, tea bag, or sugar. Please standardize what fully stocked means. VRBO so far hasn’t posted my review of the rental. Is this controlled by the owner on what gets posted? This is a concern as I was honest and fair but my posting isn’t appearing. These elements could be improved and build my trust to use your service again over other options. Thanks for listening

We booked this condo here in Myrtle Beach and got here at check-in time. The condo was destroyed by a Great Dane that the previous guests had in the condo. We met the poor cleaning lady and she had no idea we were coming as she was told not until this Saturday. We were given no instructions on what to do when we arrived. I have sent messages and tried to contact the owner. Vrbo tried calling him and nothing!! My wife has had a very difficult time the last month staying with her mother who is in advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. So meanwhile we have paid in full and sitting outside the condo because it’s trashed!! This is not what we expected!!

This would be a great app if the filters worked. I like the photos and and the information about each property is easy to access. When I set the filter for a house it includes condos. Setting the filter for pool included several properties without pools. Selecting oceanfront yielded several properties roads back. Not having a working filter creates a lengthy search. I question the integrity of the company and the accuracy of the house descriptions when such a simple thing as a faulty search filter doesn’t work. Is it an attempt to trick renters into renting a house that doesn’t meet their requirements?

I made a reservation, received a confirmation and my credit card was charged on September 5. On September 6, the owner informed me that the rental was suddenly “unavailable”. I am VERY disappointed in Vrbo and the owner, Jennifer Abraham. I think the reason the property became unavailable was because we booked it at $77.00 and the owner decided to up the price. Very sad business practice.

I will ALWAYS choose an apt, house, or condo to stay while traveling. Hotels are cold and limited. Staying in a home makes me FEEL "at home". I've never been disappointed in any of my accommodations EVER. I will always return.

Carpet was dirty. dishwasher had molded water in it there and it was a hole in the wall roach crawling on floor dead on the dressers TVs did not work broken dirty blinds hand smudge dirty marks on stove dishwasher and refrigerator had funny smell in rental very thick dust on vents The walls was dirty I have pictures and videos of everything The owner hung up in my face he would not talk to me also today is my birthday so it put a damper on my day it is obvious the place was not cleaned after the last person stayed and that puts me and my child at risk for the Coronavirus I am fighting to get a full refund. This is sad and a huge inconvenience

User friendly, but inadequate filter. Tried to sort by price low to high with set price range, which did not work. Still displayed most, if not all, other listings. I do, however, appreciate the lower fees that VRBO imposes vs other similar services. They also display the correct total price of entire stay on the listing thumbnail unlike others. All in all, I still prefer VRBO over the others. Fix the filtering issues and the app will be top notch.
Insurance scam

VRBO partners with insurance companies that operate unethically. Our trip cancellation met the qualifications exactly for a reimbursement “the person who we were celebrating for the trip received a doctor ordered quarantine” and the insurance company denied it saying this was a foreseeable event. There was no language saying anything about covid-19 being excluded and the policy specifically covered a traveling companion being quarantined. Vrbo should chose their corporate partners better. I will be looking and suggesting others look elsewhere for vacation rentals in the future.

I booked a home and the owner called me back to tell me the house was booked on another site that VRBO blocked. I’ve tried several times to contact by email, calling, and through the website chat. Terrible communication with the site and now I’m still trying to get a refund!

This the second time I’ve used instant confirmation and both times the nest day the owner emailed saying dates were unavailable. Vrbo and property managers neee to get in sync is his very hard to plan when you tell a party of 14 we found a house then the next day we find out dates weren’t even available. And it becomes very hard to book another place as the instant confirmation puts a hold on the card. Would appreciate some feebback. I’m hopeful mj thes time willl be a charm and it will be available but If not I am not sure I wil be using the app anymore

Poor support and lack of assistance

Been through a nightmare experience with VRBO. Host accidentally posted a stay that was not available and requested I cancel within 3 hours of reserving which I did. I was still charged 75% of the total stay and the host has been unable to cancel. Both of us have worked with VRBO support which has been an absolute joke. First they challenged me that I wasn’t even charged so had to show my credit charge. Then they stated it will take some time and it’s the host responsibility which they would contact. Now they have decided it is a technical error that their engineers will need to work on with no timeline. Ultimately, due to no fault of my own, I’ve been charged 2k and unable to recover that to rent something on Airbnb and no one at VRBO cares in the slightest to help.

NEVER USE THE UNSAFE APP! I reserved a home for a large family and we’re expected to travel out on September 2. Once payment was made and reservation was official the owner of the house inboxed me requesting that we check out a day early. Not a problem if we didn’t buy plane tickets to fly over 2,000 miles. I offered to check out at even 3 a.m but the owner aggressively refused. I contacted Vrbo by phone and begged a representative to try and negotiate a deal and even offer the owner Eric something to help him not to cancel and was told “no, you have 2 options to cancel entire reservation of checkout a day early”. I’m traveling with a family of 10 people and it was tough to find anything place for a 1 day rental. I asked the representative of it they could then find out why the owner Eric is cancelling a day. She placed me on hold and once she returned she attempted to conference the owner in to the call. I told her that I didn’t want confrontation or problems with the owner and that I would rather try and look for another place for a 1 day use. She the stated that the phone call is unproductive and disconnected the call. Within minutes and without my knowledge the owner Eric changed the reservation dates and adjusted the rate so that it would cost the same amount to avoid refunding me the difference. I looked up the listed address to the house and it showed up as a motel. I asked the owner for the correct address and checkin procedure and he never responded. We have less than 48 hours before our family trip begins with no place to go. I’m here in tears and am afraid to share the news with my family. Avoid this app altogether. VRBO Has been my go to place for me booking National and International hotel accommodations for years now. And had promptly been refunded after making final payment on a cottage for daughter’s graduation plans that were interrupted by Covid19 I highly recommend this professional courteous boarding company

Oh what the days were like when my deposits were shown in property estimates, and not pay funnel when you are already sucked in. This is what happens when an honest company gets bought and slowly gets shoehorned into the shadier “hide expenses until the end” company. When a company forces you out of an app, that means they are too cheap to swap out some basic web interface calls at the inconvenience of the user to save them 40 hours of web development and happier customers. I still requested to book a stay but feel sorry for the folks who get turned away by all of the last minute monetary demands.

Sellers can cancel for any reason with short notice with no recourse. VRBO’s confidence promise only provides a service to find similar listing, no booking support or money back. There is also no way to leave a seller negative feedback based on the cancellation.

I like Vrbo but it really bugs me that the $$ “per night” quote is way off compared to the price you end up paying. It allows owners to game the system to show a lower rate than others that are cheaper in total cost and are thus the penalized. Vrbo should be able to represent all of the fees into the “per night” calculation so that each property is weighed the same way. Do a little math and update the per night pricing to reflect all of the fees.

If I could zero stars I would. I Booked a property through VRBO and had to cancel because it was not the right property for us. Before canceling I looked into VRBO’s return policy. I cancelled my booking 2 days before the full refund deadline passed. We are now on the 13th business day since I’ve cancelled, and i have not received 1 penny from this company. We’ve called numerous times and the responses we get are flat out ridiculous. All they tell us is “Keep checking your bank account” or “your refund is pending for some reason” nobody that I talk to can tell me why or put me on the phone with someone that can help me. To make matters worse I am taking my family on vacation in 2 weeks and I really need this money. We all know how expensive it gets when you travel with a family. This experience with this company has been a HUGE inconvenience, and has already RUINED our chance of doing things on vacation that we had been planning on doing for quite some time now. I am beyond disappointed in this company for treating its customers like this. I for one will be thinking twice before booking with VRBO in the future.

So I am writing my review on the app and my experience while staying at our Vrbo cabin! Our family decided to stay a couple nights in a charming cabin just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee. We booked through the app and it seemed really easy to make all the arrangements. The owner of the property was quick to respond via email about some questions my husband had and send the information we needed to unlock the door to get in! I would say it’s pretty cool that you can make these kind of reservations through an app on your phone! So neat! We get to our cabin, park, get our two little kids out of the car and head inside our cabin! Get inside and find that the place hadn’t been cleaned from the last guests who had stayed there......We were in awhhh....So we tried to reach out to the property owner ASAP and let her know that the place was not ready for new guests! We waited a short time and still no reply. So we decided to contact Vrbo instead. They were very nice about it. They reached out to the property owner who then contacted us shortly after. Long story short, the property owner refunded our two night stay. We still had to pay taxes on that and was charged a cleaning deposit still of $100. Anyways. Vrbo doesn’t take financial responsibility for refunds etc. Its not their fault at all this happened. Anyways.

The worst VRBO ever!!! Their manager “ Dennis “ was not only extremely unhelpful. He was actually lacks any compassion and is obtrusive, cruel and rude!!! Wow!!! I have never seen anything like it in my life!!! Not only did he chastise me for asking a question Saturday pm about a Saturday pm check in... saying it was “ inappropriate “ to call our “ guest contact “ on a Saturday pm regarding a “Saturday pm” checkin. He subsequently placed ALL my concerns and emails in “the spam” category... Saying he requested that my concerns would be placed as such. Perhaps he is better served by applying for a M-F 9-5 job where strengths are listed as no compassion whatsoever and generalized lack of consideration and overall rudeness. Wow!! Where is the representation for paying VRBO customers??!! I have tried to find another forum to tell my side of the story... as a paying/paid customer of VRBO without success. Although I agree his/Dennis ‘ assessment that the facility he represents is NOT a good match( yes I work in a service industry for over 30 years... and I have NEVER put a person’s concerns in the “ spam/ junk file!!! So I guess I expect better when someone else is “ on the clock.” I only want to save others who might have the great misfortune of making the mistake we did and encountering “ Dennis” at 1069 Creekside Ogden UT the trouble. I love VRBO, I’m such uncertain times like the world is going through right now with the Coronavirus so many things are unclear and not reliable so it is a great comfort that VRBO is what it has always been. A sure thing, a safe, easy, secure website allowing so many displaced people to find shelter a home or room to be safe and warm. Where u can cook your own meals, warm up by a fire. Bring your loved ones together to be with each other as well as provide income to family and home owners that is so needed right now due to the current job market. Everywhere people are getting laid off and businesses are closing but I can say with confidence that VRBO is up and running and provide safe 24 customer care and knowledgeable People who are there to help everyone and go the extra mile to help with bookings and cancellations in case u are not able to make your trip to your vacation rental. In my case I’m not able to go home or travel because the state I’m in is on lockdown and VRBO and home owner carylon in Eugene Oregon are the best and have my sincere appreciation and warmest regards Mahalo Nui Loa L.K.U

The app is okay at finding rentals. However, my first experience with VRBO was so terrible that it will certainly be my last unless they improve their customer service support and fix their cancellation policies to protect renters who get ignored by the rental owner/manager. We unfortunately got a rental that was manage by someone who did not respond for days. I VRBO directly first through the website online chat support, which seemed to be positive, but then I was told to call the corporate customer service hotline number to speak with an agent to “escalate” my grievance about the lack of communication from the rental owner/manager. Because of the lack of contact from the manager and a negative review on the property I was confused about how to proceed and whether or not this rental was legit or a scam. I requested to cancel, and the manager finally responded by cancelling the rental and keeping the $1,700+ for 4 nights. So now we are out $1,700+ and have no rental! The agent from VRBO kept referencing policies and sounded cold and unable to make any changes or even partial refunds. At times, the agent could barely be understood. The customer service was abysmal at best. Apparently, VRBO does not do a good job at quality control and keeping property owners/managers in check to ensure customer satisfaction and good communication.

I booked a room with this company. My card was charge twice. I immediately file a report about a duplicated transaction. I was told the refund will take three weeks because of COVID. I was already disappointed, but I understood COVID makes everything more difficult. I waited the three weeks and decided to called. I was told they need to call the hotel to confirm my transactions. I kept going back and forth between this app and the hotel for two weeks with no answers and no refund. After the 5th week I was told Vrbo will not be responsible for the refund because it was Expedia who was in charge. I never made no deal with Expedia, but I was stock with them. Once again, I spent hours calling and asking for answers every call was at least 1- 2 hours with no answers. At the end this company blame the hotel and they blame Expedia. The hotel blame Expedia and Expedia blame the hotel. Bottom line I am still stuck with out a refund and no one wanting to take responsibility for the transaction. This is the first and last time I would ever use this app. Their customer service is horrible and I wasted at least 20 hours trying to fix something that it was not even my fault. Bottom line I paid twice for my same room. Saving a little money cost me twice as much the money I was planning to spent. This is so disappointing 😒.

We had a few different places rented in Dahlonega GA for our wedding in April, some on VRBO and some on AirBnB. When the quarantine began in March I cancelled all of my bookings. AirBnB immediately processed my full refunds and had an excellent response to the changing needs of their customers. VRBO on the other hand has really dropped the ball. It took them weeks to process my refund and I had to get the owner to actively help and make sure that I got my money back. VRBO only has chat support and the operators have no idea what is going on. Even worse, my father also had rented a property through VRBO. He wasn’t lucky enough to rent through and honest owner like I was. The owner took advantage of the lack of communication between the company, the owner, and the renter and told my dad he would have to book a new date before the original date could be refunded at 75%. So my dad rebooked first the end of May and the original date was never cancelled or refunded. Now that the quarantine is going to last through the summer he is stuck with a second booking that the owner and VRBO refuse to cancel and refund. Save yourself a the headache of poor customer service. Don’t use VRBO. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Stick with AirBnB.

We weren’t allowed to check in to our house until 45 minutes after check in time. It was gross. Hair all over the back porch from someone getting a haircut, the floors were filthy, there was vomit in an upstairs bedroom, just to name a few. The boats we were promised were not available, the hot tub that was supposed to be ready wasn’t even filled and there were no chemicals. Homeaway said we needed to work it out with the owner. we tried for two days to work it out with the owner. He was unapologetic. We tried for two days straight to talk to someone at customer service. We were told they don’t have managers??? I should not have been forced to stay with my family in a disgusting rental home. Nevermind during a pandemic. They didn’t do the bare minimum. The house was not ready to rent and hopefully they will pull the listing. NOT impressed with how they didn’t help us when we got stuck in a dirty home for our one and only family vacation this year.
Two Terrible Experiences

My husband and I go to Las Vegas every year for CES in January. In 2019 we reserved a two bedroom, 2 bathroom condo that was very close to the LV Convention Center. The place smelled, there were burnt-out lights, the blinds in one bedroom fell the middle of the night and everything was worn out, i.e. the bedding, kitchen cabinets. For our trip in January 2020 we made a reservation for a condo at the Jockey Club. On December 9th we received a message that our reservation had been cancelled and a refund was being sent. It is very hard to get a decently priced room during the week of CES, which is why we always book early. My husband contacted VRBO. They said the owner is not allowed to do that. They tried to reserve another condo for us and said they would pay the difference. They also told my husband that if the owner didn’t respond within 24 hours they would call him to help book another place. They didn’t. We will never book a place to stay through them again and are telling everyone we know. BTW, a friend of mine who goes to Hawaii every year has had several people tell her about the nightmare experience they’ve had with VRBO. At least two of those said when they arrive at their destination, found out that the place they had paid for was rented out to someone else.

I recently booked travel through the APP to stay at a cabin in Asheville,NC. The process was very easy for them to book my stay and the money was sent immediately upon reserving the cabin. I also purchased their “cancellation insurance policy for 45$. When we realized we could no longer go on our trip I called VRBO to cancel. They told me they can not cancel my booking and the insurance policy was through a company called CSA. CSA travel insurance claims have to be filed online and you will be waiting weeks to hear back from them. The process to file a claim is the worst I have experienced. The other option was to call the booking agency for the cabin itself. I called them and they would only refund 50% of my money even though I was cancelling months in advance. They said they had nothing to do with VRBO or CSA travel insurance. VRBO is racketeering with CSA travel to have you pay travel insurance then making the process ridiculously hard in order to receive a refund to make you not want to cancel through them and they still keep their profit. VRBO is fast to take your money but provides little help when you need to cancel. In the military I have travelled for 15 years using various apps and this is the worst one I have seen thus far. CLICK AWAY!
Love the trip boards

I like that I can create and save different trip ideas and properties to a “board”, which is like a folder that allows different places to be saved. I have boards titled “Fall TN ideas” and “Beach getaway” to save properties that look good in different cities/states! I am also very glad to see that the dates that a review was written have been returned as a feature! It’s very helpful to read when a review was written so if they complain it was cold and rainy, you can see the time of year that they were there! Likewise, if a bunch of reviews complain about an uncomfortable mattress, you can see if that was 4 years ago or last week and decide if it’s worth the risk. I also like the owner descriptions of the properties because they are insightful as to what makes their property or area special.

The basics of the app work well enough, but searching is waaaaaay more difficult than it needs to be. There are several filters you can apply, but they have no persistence. If you do a filtered search, switch to map view, and accidentally hit “search in this area” (because it isn’t automatic) twice, all your filter selections disappear. If you create a “board” to save your favorites, don’t assume it’s saving your filters too (other than date, although click around a couple times and that disappears too....) So if you add properties to a board over a couple days and then want to compare them, you’ll need to re enter your filters, and look up each property again separately. If you don’t, you are looking at the price for a single adult, no pets, which can be hundreds of dollars less than say, four adults, one kid, plus dogs. I know they think I’m more likely to book if they present me with more options, but if I’m planning to travel with my family, I’m planning to travel with my family. Period. I’m ACTUALLY more likely to book if their app is easier to use than Airbnb, but this app is not.

Not buggy at all, but functionality could be improved. The map feature is pretty limited - would be nice to be able to switch to satellite view, get directions, see what else is nearby, etc. The rate display is not great either - even though you enter in the date range when you search, you still have to select an entry and then select again to see what the total will be. And even though it shows the nightly rate when scrolling through the search results, just because one entry has a lower per night rate doesn’t mean the overall stay is cheaper, because taxes and fees are not factored in. So you could see one place for $200/night, and another for $215, but the total for the latter could end up being less overall. And lastly, when you share a property with someone, that person has to get the app to see it, instead of opening the website. P.S. While writing this review, I tried to select a word and “Look up…”, and then was locked out of the keyboard. I could select text but not type anymore. Not sure if that’s iOS or the app…
Missing some key search features

This is a pretty good travel app overall. I’m frustrated about a few things, however, and want to pass them on to the developers. (1) Add a button next to the heart (favorite) symbol to allow us to remove a property from a list if we’ve already ruled it out. I would suggest an “X”. I can’t remember which properties I’ve already considered, especially if I cant return to my search for several days. (2) Add the dates for travelers reviews. I take recent reviews more seriously than reviews that are a year old, for example. I think the property managers would like this as well since it allows them to recover from a bad review. (3) Break down “washer dryer” into two pieces - in unit and shared. I won’t stay someplace without a w/d in the unit and there is currently no way to find this out without contacting the property managers. (4) Break down the “free parking” filter into free onsite, on street, and valet. Again, it is nearly impossible to know the parking specifics without contacting the manager. Hope this helps. I love VRBO and have been an owner and traveler for 20 years.

I wanted to vacation in palm spring for my birthday and my daughters 1st birthday in July. Planning ahead, I booked a home that had everything we wanted and needed to have a nice stay. The owner of the home pulled the property from the program and is no longer available. There were only a few homes that fit the criteria for what I was looking for, and they only suggested 3 homes that didn’t meet that criteria. The prices were higher, less beds, less space. Highly disappointed. I did some searching on my own and found a home that I really liked but was slightly out of price range and I discussed this with costumer service to see if they could help me find a home similar to the home that i was interested in or honor the price I previously paid since this experience was such an inconvenience and unprofessional.. they wouldn’t even transfer me to the re-booking team.. they wouldn’t even let me speak to a manager or assist me in searching for another home since “I can do that on my own” is what I was told... I wish I was making this up.. what an awful experience.
Property and Owner Christopher Button

I have no idea what to rate the property itself, but if I could give the owner Christopher Button zero stars, I would. This is a strong buyer beware. We had a death in our family one week before our trip, when I contacted the owner to see if they would work with us in changing the dates, he told us we would have to cancel and reschedule, and that he did not know what the policy was in regard to a death. He told us we should contact VRBO. Both of those show deception. Each owner sets their own policies. VRBO has nothing to do with that, nor do they have any standing to persuade an owner to work with a renter. If we had cancelled we would have lost 100% of our money, and freed him to rent the property to someone else. At that point, we discovered that at the time we booked, 45 days out, his policy was for us to lose 50% for a cancellation. Shame on VRBO for representing owners like this. Shame on me for booking with this owner once, but to think I would cancel (allowing him to rebook the property), pay him 100%, and turn around and rebook with him is crazy! BUYER BEWARE!
Great Rental Company-but Fee’s Galore!

I have booked through VRBO for years and have always been happy. It seems to me the fee’s are now so out of hand that it is now making it hard to find accommodations for our group. We always find wonderful properties but by the time the fees and taxes are paid we can no longer afford the unit. Some are close to $700-$1000 for just booking fees! I’m not sure if your goal is to put more money in the owners pockets by making the consumer pay all the overhead, but the consumers are your bread and butter. We are having to either travel in off season or take a less desirable location or property to visit the Gulf Coast. This has stopped me from booking Several vacations, and from traveling as often as we would like. Somethings going to have to give. For some families it is their only vacation that they have been saving and looking forward to all year. It’s sad that fees and frivolous cost (and possibly Greed) are keeping lots of family’s in the Gulf Shore or other not as popular vacation spots. It’s great to get there, but a family has got to eat! Plus families like to try to get into town and see the other tourists trap/family fun things but can’t because they blew their budget on frivolous accommodation fees. It’s got to give somewhere. I know that owners need their income but they shouldn’t expect the consumer to pay their overhead. Just Saying!

Bad company. I would give a 0 if I could. Don’t use this app!! I had an issue with the owner of the place I rented. She was a scammer. I notified the company and they did NOTHING about it. They told me I had to contact the owner to resolve any issue. Why would I contact a scammer to resolve an issue? After talking with 3 different people telling me something different, someone pretended to contact the owner and said they will call me back. It’s been 3 months and they haven’t contact me back. During this process, the homeowner had the company take down her listing. She knew that I had an issue and she tried to run and they did nothing about it. They didn’t care. Also, when I called the first time, the guy hung up on my face. They do not check the people’s listing, so the pictures you see could not be what your renting; even the description could be different. The listing I had was completely different when I arrived. This company will not solve issues. Customer service is terrible. I wouldn’t use this app again.

I booked a rental through VRBO for New Years Eve months in advance. It was cancelled by the owner through no fault of my own, and I found myself without a venue for my event only a month before the holiday after friends had already taken off work and made plans to be in attendance. I contacted VRBO support who said they would help find me a comparable place and honor the rate within 4-6 days. After 6 days of silence, I called back to check in and was told that the customer service rep had lied to me and (despite their “book with confidence” policies) there was nothing they could do. After spending a lengthy amount of time on the phone trying to get some help, they emailed me two property listings in the specific location I told them I was not interested in. I have been searching for a new property independently for weeks now with no luck and VRBO has not so much as followed up with me. As a first time user, this has been an appalling first time experience with the site and I highly recommend against renting with them.

I love VRBO app. The way the pictures of the properties lay out is so easy to look through I like the general look of the app and I was even saying to my husband(who I added to my hearts lists I made for the destinations we liked- so smart you can do that!) that it would be nice if you could write comments about each location AND YOU CAN! They’ve thought of everything. Except maybe being able to rate the properties and move them up or down inside the groups to make looking at them easier... but now I am rambling, seriously this app is great. Very user friendly. I am a deep dive hardcore researcher and I’ve tried many many websites and always read every review and look into every option so if VRBO suits me you can be sure it is good lol
Awful during lockdown

I had rented a lakefront house, for a “staycation” about 50 miles from where i live. Well then the lockdown happened. I am a physician with a young child, who was exposed by a patient to COVID-19. I contacted the person I rented the house from and Vrbo. After multiple emails and phone calls, I basically got a response of “too bad.” The person I rented from was not pleasant to work with and worse yet, because I never stayed in the house - due to the government regulated lockdown - VrBo won’t let me review him. So basically I paid all of that money, got zero money back, even though Vrbo said they were encouraging renters to give “at least 40% of payment” back. The only money I got back was the deposit, despite being told I would get $400 back. I feel like I was scammed. I expected so much more from Vrbo, during a national crisis and pandemic. To add salt to the wound, AirBNB fully refunded its customers who had booked places during the lockdown. I encourage everyone to think twice before booking through Vrbo.
Our stay at the “Top of the World”

This was the worst trip to snowshoe ever. We are from Tennessee but are very avid skiers despite having to travel to ski. We booked two nights at top of the world. We arrived early enough to ski for a while before we got our room. After skiing for several hours we tried to check into our room. Check in time was 4 o’clock, our room wasn’t ready yet. We called the owner several times to get him to send the cleaning crew to get our room ready by 5:15. I complained about this and he cancelled our reservation and made us leave. We paid for everything up front: car rental, lift tickets and room for 4 people and had to leave. Everything was booked and we were unable to get another room. I lost money and time, it was taken from me. My family, friends and I will never be back here to snow shoe again. My advice is to rent from someone who is affiliated with snow shoe, that way you can have any issues taken care of on the spot. Jim Walton, property owner. Lives in NC, not here.

We have stayed in another floating house at Whitman Hollow in the past and have really enjoyed our stay. I would have to say that we are leaving this time and cannot say the same. The house is advertised that it can sleep 14 people. There were 10 of us, and yes there was plenty of room for us to sleep but there was very few places for everyone to sit together. There is a small futon in the living room, 5-6 stools at the kitchen table (1 was too loose to sit on), 7 chairs on the deck. The grill was in very bad shape and did not work properly. All of the beds need to be replaced, they are very uncomfortable and make noises when you roll over. There is a TV that we were not able to get the cable to work on. There is no wi-fi, and very little cell phone service. It was raining and we were all stuck inside with no TV and no service. Overall, the house itself wasn’t that bad it is nicely decorated and has potential to be a very nice place!!

This app appears identical to the HomeAway app other than it tends to run a lot slower. Sorry but I find that as confusing as vrbo's name. Reviews are not contained in the app. Requires a web page executed via an email. As far a vrbo is concerned, I view them as a necessary evil and a major step down from when HomeAway ran the show. We've rented via HomeAway for well over a decade. Every year at least 2 European homes. With vrbo and now beginning to rent in the USA, our experience has taken a decided turn for the worst. The US apartments tend to be furnished in the cheapest manner possible, some major systems/appliances invariably don’t work, check-in times (USA only) are directional at best and there’s inevitably last minute changes communicated to us by owners we never see. The app is fine for Europe. Renting in the USA is caveat emptor but I can’t suggest any better web based agent. It’s the nature of the USA. I’ve rented luxury apartments for over $4k/week and the places were a dirty mess with designer kitchens full of stuff that didn’t work. Leaving bad reviews can get in the way of future bookings. So I only leave good reviews or no reviews. Judging by the low number of reviews per property, I’d suggest either occupancy rates are far below what it takes to make money renting or there are many others that use my approach.
Horrible experience

I will never stay or recommend this apt to anyone. I have never in my life of traveling experience such horrible customer service, poor response time, and lack of communication. The apartment was not ready when we arrived. We had a wait outside of the house for 15 minutes until someone arrived to let us in. I reached out the to the property management office several times prior to my arrival and a day before we arrived to give them my arrival time and no one ever responded back to me. I had to call twice to finally get someone on the phone to let them know we were heading to the apartment. I asked for the head of the property management office to call me and see if they would accommodate us for all the hassle we experienced. No one ever called us. There was mold in the bathrooms, the downstairs bathroom leaked water out of the tub. The toilet upstairs lid was broken. The door to the apartment was so hard to open. We just had a horrible experience. Never ever will I stay or recommend this apt to anyone.
Tedious and incorrect messaging

As I worked through the challenges presented by my credit card company's fraud department (canceling and then delaying purchases for rentals in multiple countries), VRBO sent a message to the owner of a property that I desired to rent stating that my transaction was denied due to insufficient funds. That was not the case, and if it wasn't for the grace and patience of the property owner, my family and I may have missed out on a vacation home we desired to rent. VRBO has made communications with the owner exceptionally difficult and with its less than truthful descriptions of actual events has made me question the veracity of their processes and marketing material. Can any message you receive from VRBO be trusted? It would be great if this business connected owners with potential renters in a smooth and reliable process...I wouldn't mind paying for that. But as it stands now, my last two rentals via VRBO have been nothing but hassle. Will consider using other connecting businesses with future vacation rentals!

Started reading the reviews and got a bit scared . Bugs are not my friend . But this house was great , cozy for all family members , owner quick to get in touch with info if we needed it . I did see my first centipede he was dead so it’s cool . Again it’s Kauai . I decided to make the gecko s part of the family since they eat bugs . Named them too . So if you here a loud chirp ( it’s Greg , from the Brady bunch . We had a great time and will be back for daughters wedding . So enjoy the house , perfect location to walk to store , ice cream shop or the bar .beach is pretty close too .house was clean and they had everything for making meals ( good to do to save money ) again thanks for a great time . Oh I put the band aid on screen in queen room , looked like it had a tear in it .

Booked a condo in Beaver Creek over July 4th. After 1 month after reservation made, received an email from Vail Realty requesting yet another list of “don’ts” over the July 4th week that I needed to acknowledge and sign for confirmation of lodging. My family has paid over $6000 for 3 days of lodging in Beaver Creek, not including food, drink, shopping, etc. I was told ONLY the “assigned guests” could be in the condo, no partying, etc. Funny guess you can party the other 51 weeks/year. I signed in protest & received an email back from Vail Realty stating that I was the “exact type of guest”they look at renting to. What is that? I believe they have an issue discrimination. Most of guests in Vail Valley over the 4th of July are white, young, professional! Not ALL tear up the Valley! Maybe these rental companies should take some classes on how to deal with difficult guests and NOT blanket ALL the guests. So very disappointed. We have been coming to Vail for 30 + yrs. We will find housing from private sources from now on! Judy B

Incredibly frustrating to plan a group trip when the link generated by the app is a ridiculously long url that takes up my entire text screen and doesn't work. On the rare occasions a working link is generated, the link forces people to download the app, and still doesn't even open to the property page through the app. The whole runaround is mind boggling and impossible for both non app users and app users alike to quickly view the property details. Trying to keep my elder family members in the loop for housing choices is already challenging enough without having to walk them through these technical difficulties. We got so frustrated we decided to use a competing app and service instead. On a computer through a regular browser the website works perfectly fine, but the app has been an excruciating experience for collaborative planning.

Well read this review for a sense of how it went. The trip started poorly as the Airlines lost our luggage. It was returned the next day to the wrong location but out rental agent got it and delivered it for us. We had a condensation leak in AC and Richi sent someone in a hurry to check it. It resolved that day. Now the thing is the place was beautiful. Very clean and had all you would need. It has dishes and pots and pans as well as soap, laundry soap a supply of towels, linens, paper products and the place was very comfortable. The view was incredible from the balcony and the sunsets were picturesque. The three pools and the grounds were extremely well maintained and the security guards were very friendly and accommodating. We are going back next July and can’t wait.

For us everything was magnificent. From how easy we rented the condo , the quick response of the owner to confirm, The complete and specific information we receive. the conditions of the condo, the fascities and cleanliness are perfect. The bed is very comfortable, everything works properly and in case of any question the owner Mona answers quickly. The condo is on the second floor, very close to the elevator. On the first floor is the ice machine and the attention in the from desck is very nice and professional. Access to the pool and hot top is a short walk from the main lobby. The HarborWalk is beautiful, it invites you for a relaxing walk. It offers activities for all preferences and ages. On the boulevard there are restaurants, cafes, specialized in pizza and hamburgers, sea food ,ice cream .Anything you want ...everything be there To do the shopping I recommend the relatively nearby Walmart. On that side of the road you do not face the bad traffic of Destin. The beach are amazing, the sugar san and quite and warm-water. You can go in own car, golf car or hotel bus. Thanks Mona . We definitely will come back and will be recommended to all my friends and family.

I booked a cabin via Vrbo and had to pay more in an "emergency deposit" than the cost of the trip itself ($750). That may have been the choice of the owner, but there should have been some sort of cap on what an owner can dictate for an emergency deposit. I was told by Vrbo that the deposit would be automatically released back to me by February 2 (a Sunday). Naturally, it wasn't. Now it's been two days past the auto delivery day and still nothing. It's ridiculous. My credit card company hasn't been charging me interest on the money because it was marked as a refundable deposit, but now that it's overdue, they've hit me with the full two months worth of interest. Money I'll never see again. And for what? Vrbo doesn't have a way for me to get ahold of them directly and points me to asking the owner about it, but he marked it as full refund over a week ago. There are so many aspects of Vrbo that I just don't trust anymore.

The app is easy and quick to use - however it has one drawback, when I use the map to choose a certain area for available rentals, the list still shows rentals outside of the map area I’ve chosen. For example, I chose the map area to include Pensacola beach and Gulf breeze, but the list still showed me many rentals in Orange Beach and Perdido Key, which are nowhere near the areas I chose on the map, nor the areas I typed. That’s the other issue, that when I type in an area, say Pensacola Beach, I got many many listings in other beaches such as Navarre, Orange, and Perdido key. This seems to be a glitch because I’ve been using VRBO for 15 years and this is the first time I’ve encountered these issues. Please Fix!

I was looking for a place to unwind and relax, well I found it!! The pictures don’t show how picturesque it is in person. We were greeted by the owner, Gunther, who showed us a tour of his beautifully decorated house. I loved waking up every morning before my kids woke up and having a cup of coffee on the dock while listening to the loons and was treated by seeing a bald eagle. Lake is so clean and surprisingly warm. Kayaks, canoes, and a awesome fire pit were there to use, so convenient. You never wanted to leave, always something to do. However if you do want to leave for a day trip, Ogunquit, Portland and Kennebunkport is just an hour away. Great location. So blessed to find this place. Thank you again Maggie and Gunther PS...best rum cake ever!!!!!!

I have been using Vrbo for a year now. I booked a trip to a beautiful Condo in Florida, the owner was very responsive and when COVID-19 caused our plans to be cancelled the Vrbo and the owners were really responsive and the cancellation was simple. I was disappointed with our trip being cancelled and was worried that getting a refund would be a hassle and it was not... this made the decision to use the app again easy. The second booking I made was a success. The weekend getaway was amazing and the owner of the property was very responsive through the Vrbo app. Now I have just booked another vacation for December 2020 and the app made it easy to find/review options. I am sure this trip will be amazing.

I recently booked with VRBO but my plans changed. I was WELL within my cancellation time by several months (9 months), so I went to the app and hit the “cancel rental” button. 24 hours past so I attempted to contact the owner through the VRBO app. He didn’t reply so I called VRBO. They attempted to contact the owner and could not. Later that day the owner messaged me back and said he would authorize the cancellation through VRBO. Another two days passed and the rental is still in “Cancellation Pending” status. So I messaged the owner once again asking if he had authorized the cancellation yet. No response. So, back to the phone with VRBO. They attempted once again to contact the owner and told me they would “escalate the situation” which means nothing. I have now called American Express to see if they can dispute this charge. As of right now, some random stranger in the Caribbean has over $1500 of my money and apparently can keep it as long as he pleases. At this point I don’t even know if this rental exists. VRBO IS NOT THE MANAGER OF THESE RENTALS. THEY ARE SIMPLY A WEBSITE FOR LISTINGS AND CHARGE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR THAT SERVICE. You are literally giving THOUSANDS of dollars to a complete stranger who can cancel your reservation at any time with no repercussions, and can keep your money even if you decide to cancel your trip. YOU HAVE NO PROTECTION FINANCIALLY! VRBO is absolutely NO HELP in this.

This was my fourth attempt to book a rental I hope it works this time. The first time I got a notification the the hadn’t responded and my request had expired. I tried resubmitted my request put my payment info get rejecting as invalid. I called the reservation line and was able to reserve it again. In the mean time I received an email from the owner confirming my first request. But because the HomeAway request expired my down payment didn’t go through. Even though the person I spoke to told me my down payment would be charged to my card that day. I emailed owner to see what was happing and said my reservation was on the books but my payment request expired. So he had to remove me from the reservation calendar so I could submit this forth request. Your system needs some serious fixing to make this process more user friendly.

When I began the search for a property, I put in the dates and the price range. Now, I expect whatever that comes up in my search to only have the property with those prices that will apply to the actual dates I stay. I don’t know how they do their calculations but when I tried to book, it gave me what I calculated as total + $4,000 telling me that it includes “taxes and fees”. It did not break down how in the world that number was calculated. I don’t know where this website thinks we live in, but I certainly don’t understand how “taxes and fees” could cost that much. It needs to be more specific and accurate to post the price-per-night when the user actually took time to put the dates we search and the price range so that no one wastes time on looking at all the properties they list for you that you cannot afford.

I would like to recommend VRBO to require their rental owners to be more specific when they say ‘fully stocked’ kitchen. To me, that means condiments, sugar, or if you supply popcorn, more than one serving when you have multiple people. I think a product feature that offers some guidelines of what fully stocked means to the owner so we aren’t surprised home by home that we rent with its meaning. It lessens the experience to goto a home that says fully stocked when it isn’t from other rental experiences and the closest grocery store is triple the normal cost for ketchup, mustard, syrup, tea bag, or sugar. Please standardize what fully stocked means. VRBO so far hasn’t posted my review of the rental. Is this controlled by the owner on what gets posted? This is a concern as I was honest and fair but my posting isn’t appearing. These elements could be improved and build my trust to use your service again over other options. Thanks for listening
Wedding celebration

We stayed four nights at Walker Key F17 and it was perfect. We took our six year old with us to enjoy my sons wedding. It was quiet, as if we were the only ones there. Very beautiful inside. Exceptionally clean. Everything was well stocked for our “home away from home”. Easy check in and check out. We loved the layout of the bedrooms and the large master bath with a jacuzzi type tub. Plenty of storage space as well. Very modern. We are planning to go back in the fall and we will certainly check to see if this is available first! There was a beautiful view of the ocean from the balcony, “off the beaten path”. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a larger condo at a great rate!
Ripped off, left stranded by Vrbo

I booked a weekend house with Vrbo in July 2019 and through the course of making accommodations, we found that the gentleman misrepresented the number of guests his house would accommodate and would not allow us to stay with the number of guests we required. Because this information came to light within the cancelation period, Vrbo did not help us to get any of our money back despite reading our conversations and coming to the conclusion that it was indeed a misrepresentation by the property owner. They said the best they could do was to force him to correct his listing, but they could not make him reimburse us the $932 for the weekend rental, that it was between us, and he did not reimburse us at all, leaving us out $932. I would recommend making accommodations anywhere else with more certainty they are actually able to monitor false listings and to follow through with reimbursing renters who are misled.

It is helpful in finding places to stay but can be improved. First, a search feature based on the amount of beds at the place would be helpful. Many properties shown provide a number of people that can stay there based on people sleeping two to a queen or king bed. That is not always the case. I searched through several properties reading the descriptions to count beds to make sure there are enough beds for my group. Second area of improvement is the credit card info. The app is really picky about how the info is entered. My card was declined several times before I entered in all the info in a way the app liked it. Note I double checked my account to make sure it wasn’t a problem on my end, which it wasn’t. The app can just be more user friendly.

Hands down I have discovered the BEST customer service and MONEY SAVING way to make my arrangements. Using VRBO I discovered SedonaJim Rentals and can not say enough praise about the way Jim and his staff take care of their customers. From saving me money to personalizing an itinerary for me based on “what I might feel like doing and how to fit it all in AFFORDABLY”. I saved enough to take my daughter to Arizona on a hiking trip for the holidays that will provide treasured memories for decades! HUGE thanks to VRBO and SedonaJim Rentals for SAVING ME MONEY and making sure the customer feels like family. Incredible!
Beautiful home and best vacation ever

Donna has beautifully decorated this home. Myself and 2 sisters stayed with our families. Top end details make this home a must. 2 master suites (with jacuzzi tubs) plus another queen bedroom with a pocket door to a connected bathroom. A bonus apartment with room for 6 kids to sleep, sectional couch, and full bath. We loved this bonus apt because the door is up a few stairs from the main house and enclosed in privacy fence, private and felt the kids were secured. The garage had a grill and beach chairs for our use. The kitchen has granite counter tops with an open concept to the living space and tables or on the sectional couch to lounge or catch up with family and friends. The home came with a 4 passenger golf cart and we rented a 6 passenger golf cart which Donna ordered and had waiting for us. I can’t say enough about Donna, the homeowner, she answered my questions prior to arriving, any questions we had during the visit. She wonderful and easy to work with. Plus, Fripp is awesome place to relax and enjoy some time away. We loved this home and Fripp. Thank you Donna!
The Worst CS Ever

I went out to Texas with a group of friends for a week. They advertised washer and dryer, sleeps 16, etc. We get there and it is awesome! Come back after our first night to all of our stuff from downstairs put on the top level. Of course the money laying out got stolen though. They had maids come by and clean the downstairs. The reason being is that they double booked our place. The downstairs has the washer and dryer there. My buddy who rented the place has tried multiple times for a refund, but they won’t help. Not even a little bit. No matter any excuse, we were victims of false advertising at the very least. On top of full price, they charged us a cleaning fee for moving our stuff out of the downstairs area. It has been six months now and VRBO is basically ignoring our efforts. I will never use this company again. Hopefully, anybody else that wants to will read this and beware.

I would give five stars, but there categorization of properties being available is misleading. Tried to book a villa at Hilton Head in September which is basically off-season , in the middle of the week on One day notice. Property showed up as available and then the reservation was confirmed, after I selected it and paid with my CC on file, only to get Email the next morning from the property manager Stephanie saying we had no reservation because they will not accept them with less than 24 hours notice. They blamed HomeAway software for showing their property as available the next day when in fact it apparently was not.. somebody should fix this. Clay
Poor business in a national crisis

We booked a trip through VRBO in Carmel from April 24th-28th for the Big Sur Marathon with another family. When Coronavirus became a national emergency, the race was cancelled and travel restrictions have been recommended by the government. I understand the VRBO policy to be 100% if within 60 days of travel, but I only see that I was refunded 50%. This is a huge loss for us because I paid in full when I booked it several months ago. We tried to contact VRBO by phone, and were on hold for 2 hours before we eventually gave up. I also tried to contact the property manager a few days ago, and have not yet heard back. I would hope that VRBO can do what AirBNB is doing for their customers (full refund for Coronavirus related cancellations). If not, we will probably not use VRBO in the future and we will share our negative experience with family and friends.

I don’t typically post things like this but I think people should be aware. These are scary and unprecedented times and no one knows what the next few weeks will look like. Most companies are being flexible with people as a good company should. Vrbo on the other hand is totally screwing up. They state that they are “encouraging owners to issue refunds” but are 100% standing by owners in their refusal to refund cancelled plans despite the country being in a state of emergency. I don’t know what type of person you need to be to to use a time like this to make a profit but it is definitely not the type of person I would like to associate with. Airlines, hotels, travel companies etc. are adapting and working with consumers. Airbnb is offering full refunds to customers but Vrbo refuses to budge. Shame on Vrbo and shame on the owners who are robbing people of their money without a second thought.

My friends and I booked a property via VRBO and upon our arrival at the property, we were unable to access it due to it accidentally being double booked. The owner offered us an apartment to stay in but it was far too small for our group of 15 so we ended up having to pay for hotel rooms. Called VRBO after the owner told us they would give us a full refund and they just kept transferring us and then proceeded to tell me that the refund had been processed. Called a few days later and was told they had no record of our refund. The owner did work with us on this. Called again and was transferred around for over 2 hours to be hung up on before any progress was made. The owner says they were never paid our money through VRBO and VRBO are being extremely uncooperative and unhelpful. They simply do not care. wish i could give them 0 stars

If something goes wrong, you are at the mercy of the owner for a refund. VRBO will not intervene on your behalf. You can’t even dispute with your credit card because the merchant is VRBO even though you are doing business with the owner. So no possible way for resolution without legal action. In these uncertain times, don’t rely on these scumbags in case something goes wrong. They take your money and run.

Buyer beware!! If your reservation is cancelled, even if for a national pandemic, even if done so by the property owner, you are NOT entitled to a refund. My reservation was cancelled by the property owner before my scheduled dates, I was not refunded, and the seller walked away with my money. I was only offered a partial credit toward my next stay. I opened a case with Vrbo and they just cowered behind the seller’s cancellation policy. Vrbo won’t even refund me the service fee. C’mon!! Horrible customer service and by far the worst experience I’ve had with a vacation rental company.

”OMG” This property was FANTASTIC. It was clean, plenty of room, the location was perfect. We loved everything about this house. When it was time to leave? We didn't want to leave. That tells you we had a wonderful time. The owner was also helpful to work with, I had several questions and she responded quickly each time. Thank you for the wonderful stay I will be back.

We’ve used Vrbo a lot in the past, however this version is buggy. I put in dates and the number of people, but it still shows listings that are fully or partially unavailable for our dates. What’s the point? Also, if you've put in dates for your search already, but go to your board for that same search, it pulls up completely different dates. Air BnB, here I come!

The worst VRBO ever!!! Their manager “ Dennis “ was not only extremely unhelpful. He was actually lacks any compassion and is obtrusive, cruel and rude!!! Wow!!! I have never seen anything like it in my life!!! Not only did he chastise me for asking a question Saturday pm about a Saturday pm check in... saying it was “ inappropriate “ to call our “ guest contact “ on a Saturday pm regarding a “Saturday pm” checkin. He subsequently placed ALL my concerns and emails in “the spam” category... Saying he requested that my concerns would be placed as such. Perhaps he is better served by applying for a M-F 9-5 job where strengths are listed as no compassion whatsoever and generalized lack of consideration and overall rudeness. Wow!! Where is the representation for paying VRBO customers??!! I have tried to find another forum to tell my side of the story... as a paying/paid customer of VRBO without success. Although I agree his/Dennis ‘ assessment that the facility he represents is NOT a good match( yes I work in a service industry for over 30 years... and I have NEVER put a person’s concerns in the “ spam/ junk file!!! So I guess I expect better when someone else is “ on the clock.” I only want to save others who might have the great misfortune of making the mistake we did and encountering “ Dennis” at 1069 Creekside Ogden UT the trouble. Please!!! For your own sake do NOT do business there!!! Book another place I. The Ogden UT area!!!!

We are scheduled to arrive Saturday after hurricane Sally the property manager Lina is giving us a run around about getting a full refund The CIC is stating extreme power outages Bridges closed internet down ‘ cable down major beach eroding , all restaurants closed school closed and do not drink the water it’s no safe and this lady is not cooperating she is saying if the owner of the unit has received the money then she can not give us a refund this will be the first and last time we will use VRBO

On iOS this app seems to provide no ability to limit location tracking etc... to only while you are using the app. This is presumably because they are selling all of your information. I will be deleting this app as soon as our trip is over. Would be nice to be able to filter by property features for example King Bed or Washer/Dryer. VRBO services charges are high enough that they could provide better service. We arrived at our property to find no cell service so the app had very limited information available. Be warned.

I used to be a customer of HoneAway (now they are Verbo) but I will have to to find somebody who is trustworthy. Unbelievable! Very unprofessional.

The first place I tried to rent allowed me to book and then I received a message from the owner saying his calendar wasnt up to date please cancel. So I did. The next place I tried to rent said give the owners 24 hours to respond. They never did, so it auto cancelled me. The third place I (am hoping to rent) has the perfect number of rooms in the perfect location says “ not suitable for children”. Im finding it so difficult I may end up renting hotel rooms for 16 ☹️

I had a TERRIBLE experience with this company. The property manager used false pictures, as well as did NOT follow CDC guideline. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get into contact with anybody. They speak little to NO English and they continue to give the run around. Cheaper isn’t better. Stick with AIRBNB. I would give 0 stars if possible.

We recently made a reservation for a cabin that had mice. We noticed just a few hours after our arrival and notified the owner right away. The mice got into our food and they never sent anyone to try to take care of the situation. The owner tried to blame us and refused to give any kind of discount. Vrbo can’t do anything about it. We will never make reservations through this app again.

My fiancée and I just left this cabin from an incredible 2 night stay. I have been on a lot of vacations, including Puerto Rito and this was my best vacation ever. Twice I’ve booked things that were canceled most likely because things were double booked. I was left in the lurch each time at the last minute. My friend just went through the same experience. That’s three for three with Vrbo having terrible property owners and surprising you at the last minute. I would suggest trying anything else other than Vrbo.

We rented a house through VRBO in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. Halfway through the stay we discovered a surveillance camera inside of the rental property, watching us. VRBO did not care, customer service is nonexistent. No refund despite our privacy being violated and VRBOs own policies being violated. Do yourself a favor and never use VRBO. If I could give negative stars I would.

I would like to recommend VRBO to require their rental owners to be more specific when they say ‘fully stocked’ kitchen. To me, that means condiments, sugar, or if you supply popcorn, more than one serving when you have multiple people. I think a product feature that offers some guidelines of what fully stocked means to the owner so we aren’t surprised home by home that we rent with its meaning. It lessens the experience to goto a home that says fully stocked when it isn’t from other rental experiences and the closest grocery store is triple the normal cost for ketchup, mustard, syrup, tea bag, or sugar. Please standardize what fully stocked means. VRBO so far hasn’t posted my review of the rental. Is this controlled by the owner on what gets posted? This is a concern as I was honest and fair but my posting isn’t appearing. These elements could be improved and build my trust to use your service again over other options. Thanks for listening

We booked this condo here in Myrtle Beach and got here at check-in time. The condo was destroyed by a Great Dane that the previous guests had in the condo. We met the poor cleaning lady and she had no idea we were coming as she was told not until this Saturday. We were given no instructions on what to do when we arrived. I have sent messages and tried to contact the owner. Vrbo tried calling him and nothing!! My wife has had a very difficult time the last month staying with her mother who is in advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. So meanwhile we have paid in full and sitting outside the condo because it’s trashed!! This is not what we expected!!

This would be a great app if the filters worked. I like the photos and and the information about each property is easy to access. When I set the filter for a house it includes condos. Setting the filter for pool included several properties without pools. Selecting oceanfront yielded several properties roads back. Not having a working filter creates a lengthy search. I question the integrity of the company and the accuracy of the house descriptions when such a simple thing as a faulty search filter doesn’t work. Is it an attempt to trick renters into renting a house that doesn’t meet their requirements?

I made a reservation, received a confirmation and my credit card was charged on September 5. On September 6, the owner informed me that the rental was suddenly “unavailable”. I am VERY disappointed in Vrbo and the owner, Jennifer Abraham. I think the reason the property became unavailable was because we booked it at $77.00 and the owner decided to up the price. Very sad business practice.

User friendly, but inadequate filter. Tried to sort by price low to high with set price range, which did not work. Still displayed most, if not all, other listings. I do, however, appreciate the lower fees that VRBO imposes vs other similar services. They also display the correct total price of entire stay on the listing thumbnail unlike others. All in all, I still prefer VRBO over the others. Fix the filtering issues and the app will be top notch.

VRBO partners with insurance companies that operate unethically. Our trip cancellation met the qualifications exactly for a reimbursement “the person who we were celebrating for the trip received a doctor ordered quarantine” and the insurance company denied it saying this was a foreseeable event. There was no language saying anything about covid-19 being excluded and the policy specifically covered a traveling companion being quarantined. Vrbo should chose their corporate partners better. I will be looking and suggesting others look elsewhere for vacation rentals in the future.

This the second time I’ve used instant confirmation and both times the nest day the owner emailed saying dates were unavailable. Vrbo and property managers neee to get in sync is his very hard to plan when you tell a party of 14 we found a house then the next day we find out dates weren’t even available. And it becomes very hard to book another place as the instant confirmation puts a hold on the card. Would appreciate some feebback. I’m hopeful mj thes time willl be a charm and it will be available but If not I am not sure I wil be using the app anymore

Been through a nightmare experience with VRBO. Host accidentally posted a stay that was not available and requested I cancel within 3 hours of reserving which I did. I was still charged 75% of the total stay and the host has been unable to cancel. Both of us have worked with VRBO support which has been an absolute joke. First they challenged me that I wasn’t even charged so had to show my credit charge. Then they stated it will take some time and it’s the host responsibility which they would contact. Now they have decided it is a technical error that their engineers will need to work on with no timeline. Ultimately, due to no fault of my own, I’ve been charged 2k and unable to recover that to rent something on Airbnb and no one at VRBO cares in the slightest to help.

NEVER USE THE UNSAFE APP! I reserved a home for a large family and we’re expected to travel out on September 2. Once payment was made and reservation was official the owner of the house inboxed me requesting that we check out a day early. Not a problem if we didn’t buy plane tickets to fly over 2,000 miles. I offered to check out at even 3 a.m but the owner aggressively refused. I contacted Vrbo by phone and begged a representative to try and negotiate a deal and even offer the owner Eric something to help him not to cancel and was told “no, you have 2 options to cancel entire reservation of checkout a day early”. I’m traveling with a family of 10 people and it was tough to find anything place for a 1 day rental. I asked the representative of it they could then find out why the owner Eric is cancelling a day. She placed me on hold and once she returned she attempted to conference the owner in to the call. I told her that I didn’t want confrontation or problems with the owner and that I would rather try and look for another place for a 1 day use. She the stated that the phone call is unproductive and disconnected the call. Within minutes and without my knowledge the owner Eric changed the reservation dates and adjusted the rate so that it would cost the same amount to avoid refunding me the difference. I looked up the listed address to the house and it showed up as a motel. I asked the owner for the correct address and checkin procedure and he never responded. We have less than 48 hours before our family trip begins with no place to go. I’m here in tears and am afraid to share the news with my family. Avoid this app altogether. Oh what the days were like when my deposits were shown in property estimates, and not pay funnel when you are already sucked in. This is what happens when an honest company gets bought and slowly gets shoehorned into the shadier “hide expenses until the end” company. When a company forces you out of an app, that means they are too cheap to swap out some basic web interface calls at the inconvenience of the user to save them 40 hours of web development and happier customers. I still requested to book a stay but feel sorry for the folks who get turned away by all of the last minute monetary demands.

Sellers can cancel for any reason with short notice with no recourse. VRBO’s confidence promise only provides a service to find similar listing, no booking support or money back. There is also no way to leave a seller negative feedback based on the cancellation.

I like Vrbo but it really bugs me that the $$ “per night” quote is way off compared to the price you end up paying. It allows owners to game the system to show a lower rate than others that are cheaper in total cost and are thus the penalized. Vrbo should be able to represent all of the fees into the “per night” calculation so that each property is weighed the same way. Do a little math and update the per night pricing to reflect all of the fees.

If I could zero stars I would. I Booked a property through VRBO and had to cancel because it was not the right property for us. Before canceling I looked into VRBO’s return policy. I cancelled my booking 2 days before the full refund deadline passed. We are now on the 13th business day since I’ve cancelled, and i have not received 1 penny from this company. We’ve called numerous times and the responses we get are flat out ridiculous. All they tell us is “Keep checking your bank account” or “your refund is pending for some reason” nobody that I talk to can tell me why or put me on the phone with someone that can help me. To make matters worse I am taking my family on vacation in 2 weeks and I really need this money. We all know how expensive it gets when you travel with a family. This experience with this company has been a HUGE inconvenience, and has already RUINED our chance of doing things on vacation that we had been planning on doing for quite some time now. I am beyond disappointed in this company for treating its customers like this. I for one will be thinking twice before booking with VRBO in the future.

So I am writing my review on the app and my experience while staying at our Vrbo cabin! Our family decided to stay a couple nights in a charming cabin just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee. We booked through the app and it seemed really easy to make all the arrangements. The owner of the property was quick to respond via email about some questions my husband had and send the information we needed to unlock the door to get in! I would say it’s pretty cool that you can make these kind of reservations through an app on your phone! So neat! We get to our cabin, park, get our two little kids out of the car and head inside our cabin! Get inside and find that the place hadn’t been cleaned from the last guests who had stayed there......We were in awhhh....So we tried to reach out to the property owner ASAP and let her know that the place was not ready for new guests! We waited a short time and still no reply. So we decided to contact Vrbo instead. They were very nice about it. They reached out to the property owner who then contacted us shortly after. Long story short, the property owner refunded our two night stay. We still had to pay taxes on that and was charged a cleaning deposit still of $100. Anyways. Vrbo doesn’t take financial responsibility for refunds etc. Its not their fault at all this happened. Anyways.

The worst VRBO ever!!! Their manager “ Dennis “ was not only extremely unhelpful. He was actually lacks any compassion and is obtrusive, cruel and rude!!! Wow!!! I have never seen anything like it in my life!!! Not only did he chastise me for asking a question Saturday pm about a Saturday pm check in... saying it was “ inappropriate “ to call our “ guest contact “ on a Saturday pm regarding a “Saturday pm” checkin. He subsequently placed ALL my concerns and emails in “the spam” category... Saying he requested that my concerns would be placed as such. Perhaps he is better served by applying for a M-F 9-5 job where strengths are listed as no compassion whatsoever and generalized lack of consideration and overall rudeness. Wow!! Where is the representation for paying VRBO customers??!! I have tried to find another forum to tell my side of the story... as a paying/paid customer of VRBO without success. Although I agree his/Dennis ‘ assessment that the facility he represents is NOT a good match( yes I work in a service industry for over 30 years... and I have NEVER put a person’s concerns in the “ spam/ junk file!!! So I guess I expect better when someone else is “ on the clock.” I only want to save others who might have the great misfortune of making the mistake we did and encountering “ Dennis” at 1069 Creekside Ogden UT the trouble. I love VRBO, I’m such uncertain times like the world is going through right now with the Coronavirus so many things are unclear and not reliable so it is a great comfort that VRBO is what it has always been. A sure thing, a safe, easy, secure website allowing so many displaced people to find shelter a home or room to be safe and warm. Where u can cook your own meals, warm up by a fire. Bring your loved ones together to be with each other as well as provide income to family and home owners that is so needed right now due to the current job market. Everywhere people are getting laid off and businesses are closing but I can say with confidence that VRBO is up and running and provide safe 24 customer care and knowledgeable People who are there to help everyone and go the extra mile to help with bookings and cancellations in case u are not able to make your trip to your vacation rental. In my case I’m not able to go home or travel because the state I’m in is on lockdown and VRBO and home owner carylon in Eugene Oregon are the best and have my sincere appreciation and warmest regards Mahalo Nui Loa L.K.U
Unacceptable customer service experiences

The app is okay at finding rentals. However, my first experience with VRBO was so terrible that it will certainly be my last unless they improve their customer service support and fix their cancellation policies to protect renters who get ignored by the rental owner/manager. We unfortunately got a rental that was manage by someone who did not respond for days. I VRBO directly first through the website online chat support, which seemed to be positive, but then I was told to call the corporate customer service hotline number to speak with an agent to “escalate” my grievance about the lack of communication from the rental owner/manager. Because of the lack of contact from the manager and a negative review on the property I was confused about how to proceed and whether or not this rental was legit or a scam. I requested to cancel, and the manager finally responded by cancelling the rental and keeping the $1,700+ for 4 nights. So now we are out $1,700+ and have no rental! The agent from VRBO kept referencing policies and sounded cold and unable to make any changes or even partial refunds. At times, the agent could barely be understood. The customer service was abysmal at best. Apparently, VRBO does not do a good job at quality control and keeping property owners/managers in check to ensure customer satisfaction and good communication.

I booked a room with this company. My card was charge twice. I immediately file a report about a duplicated transaction. I was told the refund will take three weeks because of COVID. I was already disappointed, but I understood COVID makes everything more difficult. I waited the three weeks and decided to called. I was told they need to call the hotel to confirm my transactions. I kept going back and forth between this app and the hotel for two weeks with no answers and no refund. After the 5th week I was told Vrbo will not be responsible for the refund because it was Expedia who was in charge. I never made no deal with Expedia, but I was stock with them. Once again, I spent hours calling and asking for answers every call was at least 1- 2 hours with no answers. At the end this company blame the hotel and they blame Expedia. The hotel blame Expedia and Expedia blame the hotel. Bottom line I am still stuck with out a refund and no one wanting to take responsibility for the transaction. This is the first and last time I would ever use this app. Their customer service is horrible and I wasted at least 20 hours trying to fix something that it was not even my fault. Bottom line I paid twice for my same room. Saving a little money cost me twice as much the money I was planning to spent. This is so disappointing 😒.

We had a few different places rented in Dahlonega GA for our wedding in April, some on VRBO and some on AirBnB. When the quarantine began in March I cancelled all of my bookings. AirBnB immediately processed my full refunds and had an excellent response to the changing needs of their customers. VRBO on the other hand has really dropped the ball. It took them weeks to process my refund and I had to get the owner to actively help and make sure that I got my money back. VRBO only has chat support and the operators have no idea what is going on. Even worse, my father also had rented a property through VRBO. He wasn’t lucky enough to rent through and honest owner like I was. The owner took advantage of the lack of communication between the company, the owner, and the renter and told my dad he would have to book a new date before the original date could be refunded at 75%. So my dad rebooked first the end of May and the original date was never cancelled or refunded. Now that the quarantine is going to last through the summer he is stuck with a second booking that the owner and VRBO refuse to cancel and refund. Save yourself a the headache of poor customer service. Don’t use VRBO. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Stick with AirBnB.

We weren’t allowed to check in to our house until 45 minutes after check in time. It was gross. Hair all over the back porch from someone getting a haircut, the floors were filthy, there was vomit in an upstairs bedroom, just to name a few. The boats we were promised were not available, the hot tub that was supposed to be ready wasn’t even filled and there were no chemicals. Homeaway said we needed to work it out with the owner. we tried for two days to work it out with the owner. He was unapologetic. We tried for two days straight to talk to someone at customer service. We were told they don’t have managers??? I should not have been forced to stay with my family in a disgusting rental home. Nevermind during a pandemic. They didn’t do the bare minimum. The house was not ready to rent and hopefully they will pull the listing. NOT impressed with how they didn’t help us when we got stuck in a dirty home for our one and only family vacation this year.
Two Terrible Experiences

My husband and I go to Las Vegas every year for CES in January. In 2019 we reserved a two bedroom, 2 bathroom condo that was very close to the LV Convention Center. The place smelled, there were burnt-out lights, the blinds in one bedroom fell the middle of the night and everything was worn out, i.e. the bedding, kitchen cabinets. For our trip in January 2020 we made a reservation for a condo at the Jockey Club. On December 9th we received a message that our reservation had been cancelled and a refund was being sent. It is very hard to get a decently priced room during the week of CES, which is why we always book early. My husband contacted VRBO. They said the owner is not allowed to do that. They tried to reserve another condo for us and said they would pay the difference. They also told my husband that if the owner didn’t respond within 24 hours they would call him to help book another place. They didn’t. We will never book a place to stay through them again and are telling everyone we know. BTW, a friend of mine who goes to Hawaii every year has had several people tell her about the nightmare experience they’ve had with VRBO. At least two of those said when they arrive at their destination, found out that the place they had paid for was rented out to someone else.

I recently booked travel through the APP to stay at a cabin in Asheville,NC. The process was very easy for them to book my stay and the money was sent immediately upon reserving the cabin. I also purchased their “cancellation insurance policy for 45$. When we realized we could no longer go on our trip I called VRBO to cancel. They told me they can not cancel my booking and the insurance policy was through a company called CSA. CSA travel insurance claims have to be filed online and you will be waiting weeks to hear back from them. The process to file a claim is the worst I have experienced. The other option was to call the booking agency for the cabin itself. I called them and they would only refund 50% of my money even though I was cancelling months in advance. They said they had nothing to do with VRBO or CSA travel insurance. VRBO is racketeering with CSA travel to have you pay travel insurance then making the process ridiculously hard in order to receive a refund to make you not want to cancel through them and they still keep their profit. VRBO is fast to take your money but provides little help when you need to cancel. In the military I have travelled for 15 years using various apps and this is the worst one I have seen thus far. CLICK AWAY!

I like that I can create and save different trip ideas and properties to a “board”, which is like a folder that allows different places to be saved. I have boards titled “Fall TN ideas” and “Beach getaway” to save properties that look good in different cities/states! I am also very glad to see that the dates that a review was written have been returned as a feature! It’s very helpful to read when a review was written so if they complain it was cold and rainy, you can see the time of year that they were there! Likewise, if a bunch of reviews complain about an uncomfortable mattress, you can see if that was 4 years ago or last week and decide if it’s worth the risk. I also like the owner descriptions of the properties because they are insightful as to what makes their property or area special.

The basics of the app work well enough, but searching is waaaaaay more difficult than it needs to be. There are several filters you can apply, but they have no persistence. If you do a filtered search, switch to map view, and accidentally hit “search in this area” (because it isn’t automatic) twice, all your filter selections disappear. If you create a “board” to save your favorites, don’t assume it’s saving your filters too (other than date, although click around a couple times and that disappears too....) So if you add properties to a board over a couple days and then want to compare them, you’ll need to re enter your filters, and look up each property again separately. If you don’t, you are looking at the price for a single adult, no pets, which can be hundreds of dollars less than say, four adults, one kid, plus dogs. I know they think I’m more likely to book if they present me with more options, but if I’m planning to travel with my family, I’m planning to travel with my family. Period. I’m ACTUALLY more likely to book if their app is easier to use than Airbnb, but this app is not.

Not buggy at all, but functionality could be improved. The map feature is pretty limited - would be nice to be able to switch to satellite view, get directions, see what else is nearby, etc. The rate display is not great either - even though you enter in the date range when you search, you still have to select an entry and then select again to see what the total will be. And even though it shows the nightly rate when scrolling through the search results, just because one entry has a lower per night rate doesn’t mean the overall stay is cheaper, because taxes and fees are not factored in. So you could see one place for $200/night, and another for $215, but the total for the latter could end up being less overall. And lastly, when you share a property with someone, that person has to get the app to see it, instead of opening the website. P.S. While writing this review, I tried to select a word and “Look up…”, and then was locked out of the keyboard. I could select text but not type anymore. Not sure if that’s iOS or the app…
Missing some key search features

This is a pretty good travel app overall. I’m frustrated about a few things, however, and want to pass them on to the developers. (1) Add a button next to the heart (favorite) symbol to allow us to remove a property from a list if we’ve already ruled it out. I would suggest an “X”. I can’t remember which properties I’ve already considered, especially if I cant return to my search for several days. (2) Add the dates for travelers reviews. I take recent reviews more seriously than reviews that are a year old, for example. I think the property managers would like this as well since it allows them to recover from a bad review. (3) Break down “washer dryer” into two pieces - in unit and shared. I won’t stay someplace without a w/d in the unit and there is currently no way to find this out without contacting the property managers. (4) Break down the “free parking” filter into free onsite, on street, and valet. Again, it is nearly impossible to know the parking specifics without contacting the manager. Hope this helps. I love VRBO and have been an owner and traveler for 20 years.

I wanted to vacation in palm spring for my birthday and my daughters 1st birthday in July. Planning ahead, I booked a home that had everything we wanted and needed to have a nice stay. The owner of the home pulled the property from the program and is no longer available. There were only a few homes that fit the criteria for what I was looking for, and they only suggested 3 homes that didn’t meet that criteria. The prices were higher, less beds, less space. Highly disappointed. I did some searching on my own and found a home that I really liked but was slightly out of price range and I discussed this with costumer service to see if they could help me find a home similar to the home that i was interested in or honor the price I previously paid since this experience was such an inconvenience and unprofessional.. they wouldn’t even transfer me to the re-booking team.. they wouldn’t even let me speak to a manager or assist me in searching for another home since “I can do that on my own” is what I was told... I wish I was making this up.. what an awful experience.
Property and Owner Christopher Button

I have no idea what to rate the property itself, but if I could give the owner Christopher Button zero stars, I would. This is a strong buyer beware. We had a death in our family one week before our trip, when I contacted the owner to see if they would work with us in changing the dates, he told us we would have to cancel and reschedule, and that he did not know what the policy was in regard to a death. He told us we should contact VRBO. Both of those show deception. Each owner sets their own policies. VRBO has nothing to do with that, nor do they have any standing to persuade an owner to work with a renter. If we had cancelled we would have lost 100% of our money, and freed him to rent the property to someone else. At that point, we discovered that at the time we booked, 45 days out, his policy was for us to lose 50% for a cancellation. Shame on VRBO for representing owners like this. Shame on me for booking with this owner once, but to think I would cancel (allowing him to rebook the property), pay him 100%, and turn around and rebook with him is crazy! BUYER BEWARE!
Great Rental Company-but Fee’s Galore!

I have booked through VRBO for years and have always been happy. It seems to me the fee’s are now so out of hand that it is now making it hard to find accommodations for our group. We always find wonderful properties but by the time the fees and taxes are paid we can no longer afford the unit. Some are close to $700-$1000 for just booking fees! I’m not sure if your goal is to put more money in the owners pockets by making the consumer pay all the overhead, but the consumers are your bread and butter. We are having to either travel in off season or take a less desirable location or property to visit the Gulf Coast. This has stopped me from booking Several vacations, and from traveling as often as we would like. Somethings going to have to give. For some families it is their only vacation that they have been saving and looking forward to all year. It’s sad that fees and frivolous cost (and possibly Greed) are keeping lots of family’s in the Gulf Shore or other not as popular vacation spots. It’s great to get there, but a family has got to eat! Plus families like to try to get into town and see the other tourists trap/family fun things but can’t because they blew their budget on frivolous accommodation fees. It’s got to give somewhere. I know that owners need their income but they shouldn’t expect the consumer to pay their overhead. Just Saying!

Bad company. I would give a 0 if I could. Don’t use this app!! I had an issue with the owner of the place I rented. She was a scammer. I notified the company and they did NOTHING about it. They told me I had to contact the owner to resolve any issue. Why would I contact a scammer to resolve an issue? After talking with 3 different people telling me something different, someone pretended to contact the owner and said they will call me back. It’s been 3 months and they haven’t contact me back. During this process, the homeowner had the company take down her listing. She knew that I had an issue and she tried to run and they did nothing about it. They didn’t care. Also, when I called the first time, the guy hung up on my face. They do not check the people’s listing, so the pictures you see could not be what your renting; even the description could be different. The listing I had was completely different when I arrived. This company will not solve issues. Customer service is terrible. I wouldn’t use this app again.

I booked a rental through VRBO for New Years Eve months in advance. It was cancelled by the owner through no fault of my own, and I found myself without a venue for my event only a month before the holiday after friends had already taken off work and made plans to be in attendance. I contacted VRBO support who said they would help find me a comparable place and honor the rate within 4-6 days. After 6 days of silence, I called back to check in and was told that the customer service rep had lied to me and (despite their “book with confidence” policies) there was nothing they could do. After spending a lengthy amount of time on the phone trying to get some help, they emailed me two property listings in the specific location I told them I was not interested in. I have been searching for a new property independently for weeks now with no luck and VRBO has not so much as followed up with me. As a first time user, this has been an appalling first time experience with the site and I highly recommend against renting with them.

I love VRBO app. The way the pictures of the properties lay out is so easy to look through I like the general look of the app and I was even saying to my husband(who I added to my hearts lists I made for the destinations we liked- so smart you can do that!) that it would be nice if you could write comments about each location AND YOU CAN! They’ve thought of everything. Except maybe being able to rate the properties and move them up or down inside the groups to make looking at them easier... but now I am rambling, seriously this app is great. Very user friendly. I am a deep dive hardcore researcher and I’ve tried many many websites and always read every review and look into every option so if VRBO suits me you can be sure it is good lol
Awful during lockdown

I had rented a lakefront house, for a “staycation” about 50 miles from where i live. Well then the lockdown happened. I am a physician with a young child, who was exposed by a patient to COVID-19. I contacted the person I rented the house from and Vrbo. After multiple emails and phone calls, I basically got a response of “too bad.” The person I rented from was not pleasant to work with and worse yet, because I never stayed in the house - due to the government regulated lockdown - VrBo won’t let me review him. So basically I paid all of that money, got zero money back, even though Vrbo said they were encouraging renters to give “at least 40% of payment” back. The only money I got back was the deposit, despite being told I would get $400 back. I feel like I was scammed. I expected so much more from Vrbo, during a national crisis and pandemic. To add salt to the wound, AirBNB fully refunded its customers who had booked places during the lockdown. I encourage everyone to think twice before booking through Vrbo.
Our stay at the “Top of the World”

This was the worst trip to snowshoe ever. We are from Tennessee but are very avid skiers despite having to travel to ski. We booked two nights at top of the world. We arrived early enough to ski for a while before we got our room. After skiing for several hours we tried to check into our room. Check in time was 4 o’clock, our room wasn’t ready yet. We called the owner several times to get him to send the cleaning crew to get our room ready by 5:15. I complained about this and he cancelled our reservation and made us leave. We paid for everything up front: car rental, lift tickets and room for 4 people and had to leave. Everything was booked and we were unable to get another room. I lost money and time, it was taken from me. My family, friends and I will never be back here to snow shoe again. My advice is to rent from someone who is affiliated with snow shoe, that way you can have any issues taken care of on the spot. Jim Walton, property owner. Lives in NC, not here.

We have stayed in another floating house at Whitman Hollow in the past and have really enjoyed our stay. I would have to say that we are leaving this time and cannot say the same. The house is advertised that it can sleep 14 people. There were 10 of us, and yes there was plenty of room for us to sleep but there was very few places for everyone to sit together. There is a small futon in the living room, 5-6 stools at the kitchen table (1 was too loose to sit on), 7 chairs on the deck. The grill was in very bad shape and did not work properly. All of the beds need to be replaced, they are very uncomfortable and make noises when you roll over. There is a TV that we were not able to get the cable to work on. There is no wi-fi, and very little cell phone service. It was raining and we were all stuck inside with no TV and no service. Overall, the house itself wasn’t that bad it is nicely decorated and has potential to be a very nice place!!

This app appears identical to the HomeAway app other than it tends to run a lot slower. Sorry but I find that as confusing as vrbo's name. Reviews are not contained in the app. Requires a web page executed via an email. As far a vrbo is concerned, I view them as a necessary evil and a major step down from when HomeAway ran the show. We've rented via HomeAway for well over a decade. Every year at least 2 European homes. With vrbo and now beginning to rent in the USA, our experience has taken a decided turn for the worst. The US apartments tend to be furnished in the cheapest manner possible, some major systems/appliances invariably don’t work, check-in times (USA only) are directional at best and there’s inevitably last minute changes communicated to us by owners we never see. The app is fine for Europe. Renting in the USA is caveat emptor but I can’t suggest any better web based agent. It’s the nature of the USA. I’ve rented luxury apartments for over $4k/week and the places were a dirty mess with designer kitchens full of stuff that didn’t work. Leaving bad reviews can get in the way of future bookings. So I only leave good reviews or no reviews. Judging by the low number of reviews per property, I’d suggest either occupancy rates are far below what it takes to make money renting or there are many others that use my approach.

I will never stay or recommend this apt to anyone. I have never in my life of traveling experience such horrible customer service, poor response time, and lack of communication. The apartment was not ready when we arrived. We had a wait outside of the house for 15 minutes until someone arrived to let us in. I reached out the to the property management office several times prior to my arrival and a day before we arrived to give them my arrival time and no one ever responded back to me. I had to call twice to finally get someone on the phone to let them know we were heading to the apartment. I asked for the head of the property management office to call me and see if they would accommodate us for all the hassle we experienced. No one ever called us. There was mold in the bathrooms, the downstairs bathroom leaked water out of the tub. The toilet upstairs lid was broken. The door to the apartment was so hard to open. We just had a horrible experience. Never ever will I stay or recommend this apt to anyone.
Tedious and incorrect messaging

As I worked through the challenges presented by my credit card company's fraud department (canceling and then delaying purchases for rentals in multiple countries), VRBO sent a message to the owner of a property that I desired to rent stating that my transaction was denied due to insufficient funds. That was not the case, and if it wasn't for the grace and patience of the property owner, my family and I may have missed out on a vacation home we desired to rent. VRBO has made communications with the owner exceptionally difficult and with its less than truthful descriptions of actual events has made me question the veracity of their processes and marketing material. Can any message you receive from VRBO be trusted? It would be great if this business connected owners with potential renters in a smooth and reliable process...I wouldn't mind paying for that. But as it stands now, my last two rentals via VRBO have been nothing but hassle. Will consider using other connecting businesses with future vacation rentals!

Started reading the reviews and got a bit scared . Bugs are not my friend . But this house was great , cozy for all family members , owner quick to get in touch with info if we needed it . I did see my first centipede he was dead so it’s cool . Again it’s Kauai . I decided to make the gecko s part of the family since they eat bugs . Named them too . So if you here a loud chirp ( it’s Greg , from the Brady bunch . We had a great time and will be back for daughters wedding . So enjoy the house , perfect location to walk to store , ice cream shop or the bar .beach is pretty close too .house was clean and they had everything for making meals ( good to do to save money ) again thanks for a great time . Oh I put the band aid on screen in queen room , looked like it had a tear in it .

Booked a condo in Beaver Creek over July 4th. After 1 month after reservation made, received an email from Vail Realty requesting yet another list of “don’ts” over the July 4th week that I needed to acknowledge and sign for confirmation of lodging. My family has paid over $6000 for 3 days of lodging in Beaver Creek, not including food, drink, shopping, etc. I was told ONLY the “assigned guests” could be in the condo, no partying, etc. Funny guess you can party the other 51 weeks/year. I signed in protest & received an email back from Vail Realty stating that I was the “exact type of guest”they look at renting to. What is that? I believe they have an issue discrimination. Most of guests in Vail Valley over the 4th of July are white, young, professional! Not ALL tear up the Valley! Maybe these rental companies should take some classes on how to deal with difficult guests and NOT blanket ALL the guests. So very disappointed. We have been coming to Vail for 30 + yrs. We will find housing from private sources from now on! Judy B
Horrible sharing features

Incredibly frustrating to plan a group trip when the link generated by the app is a ridiculously long url that takes up my entire text screen and doesn't work. On the rare occasions a working link is generated, the link forces people to download the app, and still doesn't even open to the property page through the app. The whole runaround is mind boggling and impossible for both non app users and app users alike to quickly view the property details. Trying to keep my elder family members in the loop for housing choices is already challenging enough without having to walk them through these technical difficulties. We got so frustrated we decided to use a competing app and service instead. On a computer through a regular browser the website works perfectly fine, but the app has been an excruciating experience for collaborative planning.

It was returned the next day to the wrong location but out rental agent got it and delivered it for us. We had a condensation leak in AC and Richi sent someone in a hurry to check it. It resolved that day. Now the thing is the place was beautiful. Very clean and had all you would need. It has dishes and pots and pans as well as soap, laundry soap a supply of towels, linens, paper products and the place was very comfortable. The view was incredible from the balcony and the sunsets were picturesque. The three pools and the grounds were extremely well maintained and the security guards were very friendly and accommodating. We are going back next July and can’t wait.
Romantic and wonderful vacations

For us everything was magnificent. From how easy we rented the condo , the quick response of the owner to confirm, The complete and specific information we receive. the conditions of the condo, the fascities and cleanliness are perfect. The bed is very comfortable, everything works properly and in case of any question the owner Mona answers quickly. The condo is on the second floor, very close to the elevator. On the first floor is the ice machine and the attention in the from desck is very nice and professional. Access to the pool and hot top is a short walk from the main lobby. The HarborWalk is beautiful, it invites you for a relaxing walk. It offers activities for all preferences and ages. On the boulevard there are restaurants, cafes, specialized in pizza and hamburgers, sea food ,ice cream .Anything you want ...everything be there To do the shopping I recommend the relatively nearby Walmart. On that side of the road you do not face the bad traffic of Destin. The beach are amazing, the sugar san and quite and warm-water. You can go in own car, golf car or hotel bus. Thanks Mona . We definitely will come back and will be recommended to all my friends and family.

I booked a cabin via Vrbo and had to pay more in an "emergency deposit" than the cost of the trip itself ($750). That may have been the choice of the owner, but there should have been some sort of cap on what an owner can dictate for an emergency deposit. I was told by Vrbo that the deposit would be automatically released back to me by February 2 (a Sunday). Naturally, it wasn't. Now it's been two days past the auto delivery day and still nothing. It's ridiculous. My credit card company hasn't been charging me interest on the money because it was marked as a refundable deposit, but now that it's overdue, they've hit me with the full two months worth of interest. Money I'll never see again. And for what? Vrbo doesn't have a way for me to get ahold of them directly and points me to asking the owner about it, but he marked it as full refund over a week ago. There are so many aspects of Vrbo that I just don't trust anymore.

The app is easy and quick to use - however it has one drawback, when I use the map to choose a certain area for available rentals, the list still shows rentals outside of the map area I’ve chosen. For example, I chose the map area to include Pensacola beach and Gulf breeze, but the list still showed me many rentals in Orange Beach and Perdido Key, which are nowhere near the areas I chose on the map, nor the areas I typed. That’s the other issue, that when I type in an area, say Pensacola Beach, I got many many listings in other beaches such as Navarre, Orange, and Perdido key. This seems to be a glitch because I’ve been using VRBO for 15 years and this is the first time I’ve encountered these issues. Please Fix!

I was looking for a place to unwind and relax, well I found it!! The pictures don’t show how picturesque it is in person. We were greeted by the owner, Gunther, who showed us a tour of his beautifully decorated house. I loved waking up every morning before my kids woke up and having a cup of coffee on the dock while listening to the loons and was treated by seeing a bald eagle. Lake is so clean and surprisingly warm. Kayaks, canoes, and a awesome fire pit were there to use, so convenient. You never wanted to leave, always something to do. However if you do want to leave for a day trip, Ogunquit, Portland and Kennebunkport is just an hour away. Great location. So blessed to find this place. Thank you again Maggie and Gunther PS...best rum cake ever!!!!!!

I have been using Vrbo for a year now. I booked a trip to a beautiful Condo in Florida, the owner was very responsive and when COVID-19 caused our plans to be cancelled the Vrbo and the owners were really responsive and the cancellation was simple. I was disappointed with our trip being cancelled and was worried that getting a refund would be a hassle and it was not... this made the decision to use the app again easy. The second booking I made was a success. The weekend getaway was amazing and the owner of the property was very responsive through the Vrbo app. Now I have just booked another vacation for December 2020 and the app made it easy to find/review options. I am sure this trip will be amazing.

I recently booked with VRBO but my plans changed. I was WELL within my cancellation time by several months (9 months), so I went to the app and hit the “cancel rental” button. 24 hours past so I attempted to contact the owner through the VRBO app. He didn’t reply so I called VRBO. They attempted to contact the owner and could not. Later that day the owner messaged me back and said he would authorize the cancellation through VRBO. Another two days passed and the rental is still in “Cancellation Pending” status. So I messaged the owner once again asking if he had authorized the cancellation yet. No response. So, back to the phone with VRBO. They attempted once again to contact the owner and told me they would “escalate the situation” which means nothing. I have now called American Express to see if they can dispute this charge. As of right now, some random stranger in the Caribbean has over $1500 of my money and apparently can keep it as long as he pleases. At this point I don’t even know if this rental exists. VRBO IS NOT THE MANAGER OF THESE RENTALS. THEY ARE SIMPLY A WEBSITE FOR LISTINGS AND CHARGE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR THAT SERVICE. You are literally giving THOUSANDS of dollars to a complete stranger who can cancel your reservation at any time with no repercussions, and can keep your money even if you decide to cancel your trip. YOU HAVE NO PROTECTION FINANCIALLY! VRBO is absolutely NO HELP in this.

This was my fourth attempt to book a rental I hope it works this time. The first time I got a notification the the hadn’t responded and my request had expired. I tried resubmitted my request put my payment info get rejecting as invalid. I called the reservation line and was able to reserve it again. In the mean time I received an email from the owner confirming my first request. But because the HomeAway request expired my down payment didn’t go through. Even though the person I spoke to told me my down payment would be charged to my card that day. I emailed owner to see what was happing and said my reservation was on the books but my payment request expired. So he had to remove me from the reservation calendar so I could submit this forth request. Your system needs some serious fixing to make this process more user friendly.

When I began the search for a property, I put in the dates and the price range. Now, I expect whatever that comes up in my search to only have the property with those prices that will apply to the actual dates I stay. I don’t know how they do their calculations but when I tried to book, it gave me what I calculated as total + $4,000 telling me that it includes “taxes and fees”. It did not break down how in the world that number was calculated. I don’t know where this website thinks we live in, but I certainly don’t understand how “taxes and fees” could cost that much. It needs to be more specific and accurate to post the price-per-night when the user actually took time to put the dates we search and the price range so that no one wastes time on looking at all the properties they list for you that you cannot afford.

I would like to recommend VRBO to require their rental owners to be more specific when they say ‘fully stocked’ kitchen. To me, that means condiments, sugar, or if you supply popcorn, more than one serving when you have multiple people. I think a product feature that offers some guidelines of what fully stocked means to the owner so we aren’t surprised home by home that we rent with its meaning. It lessens the experience to goto a home that says fully stocked when it isn’t from other rental experiences and the closest grocery store is triple the normal cost for ketchup, mustard, syrup, tea bag, or sugar. Please standardize what fully stocked means. VRBO so far hasn’t posted my review of the rental. Is this controlled by the owner on what gets posted? This is a concern as I was honest and fair but my posting isn’t appearing. These elements could be improved and build my trust to use your service again over other options. Thanks for listening
Wedding celebration

We stayed four nights at Walker Key F17 and it was perfect. We took our six year old with us to enjoy my sons wedding. It was quiet, as if we were the only ones there. Very beautiful inside. Exceptionally clean. Everything was well stocked for our “home away from home”. Easy check in and check out. We loved the layout of the bedrooms and the large master bath with a jacuzzi type tub. Plenty of storage space as well. Very modern. We are planning to go back in the fall and we will certainly check to see if this is available first! There was a beautiful view of the ocean from the balcony, “off the beaten path”. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a larger condo at a great rate!
Ripped off, left stranded by Vrbo

I booked a weekend house with Vrbo in July 2019 and through the course of making accommodations, we found that the gentleman misrepresented the number of guests his house would accommodate and would not allow us to stay with the number of guests we required. Because this information came to light within the cancelation period, Vrbo did not help us to get any of our money back despite reading our conversations and coming to the conclusion that it was indeed a misrepresentation by the property owner. They said the best they could do was to force him to correct his listing, but they could not make him reimburse us the $932 for the weekend rental, that it was between us, and he did not reimburse us at all, leaving us out $932. I would recommend making accommodations anywhere else with more certainty they are actually able to monitor false listings and to follow through with reimbursing renters who are misled.

It is helpful in finding places to stay but can be improved. First, a search feature based on the amount of beds at the place would be helpful. Many properties shown provide a number of people that can stay there based on people sleeping two to a queen or king bed. That is not always the case. I searched through several properties reading the descriptions to count beds to make sure there are enough beds for my group. Second area of improvement is the credit card info. The app is really picky about how the info is entered. My card was declined several times before I entered in all the info in a way the app liked it. Note I double checked my account to make sure it wasn’t a problem on my end, which it wasn’t. The app can just be more user friendly.

I have used several travel apps and businesses to help facilitate plans and itineraries in the past 20 years. Hands down I have discovered the BEST customer service and MONEY SAVING way to make my arrangements. Using VRBO I discovered SedonaJim Rentals and can not say enough praise about the way Jim and his staff take care of their customers. From saving me money to personalizing an itinerary for me based on “what I might feel like doing and how to fit it all in AFFORDABLY”. I saved enough to take my daughter to Arizona on a hiking trip for the holidays that will provide treasured memories for decades! HUGE thanks to VRBO and SedonaJim Rentals for SAVING ME MONEY and making sure the customer feels like family. Incredible!
Beautiful home and best vacation ever

Donna has beautifully decorated this home. Myself and 2 sisters stayed with our families. Top end details make this home a must. 2 master suites (with jacuzzi tubs) plus another queen bedroom with a pocket door to a connected bathroom. A bonus apartment with room for 6 kids to sleep, sectional couch, and full bath. We loved this bonus apt because the door is up a few stairs from the main house and enclosed in privacy fence, private and felt the kids were secured. The garage had a grill and beach chairs for our use. The kitchen has granite counter tops with an open concept to the living space and tables or on the sectional couch to lounge or catch up with family and friends. The home came with a 4 passenger golf cart and we rented a 6 passenger golf cart which Donna ordered and had waiting for us. I can’t say enough about Donna, the homeowner, she answered my questions prior to arriving, any questions we had during the visit. She wonderful and easy to work with. Plus, Fripp is awesome place to relax and enjoy some time away. We loved this home and Fripp. Thank you Donna!
The Worst CS Ever

I went out to Texas with a group of friends for a week. They advertised washer and dryer, sleeps 16, etc. We get there and it is awesome! Come back after our first night to all of our stuff from downstairs put on the top level. Of course the money laying out got stolen though. They had maids come by and clean the downstairs. The reason being is that they double booked our place. The downstairs has the washer and dryer there. My buddy who rented the place has tried multiple times for a refund, but they won’t help. Not even a little bit. No matter any excuse, we were victims of false advertising at the very least. On top of full price, they charged us a cleaning fee for moving our stuff out of the downstairs area. It has been six months now and VRBO is basically ignoring our efforts. I will never use this company again. Hopefully, anybody else that wants to will read this and beware.

I would give five stars, but there categorization of properties being available is misleading. Tried to book a villa at Hilton Head in September which is basically off-season , in the middle of the week on One day notice. Property showed up as available and then the reservation was confirmed, after I selected it and paid with my CC on file, only to get Email the next morning from the property manager Stephanie saying we had no reservation because they will not accept them with less than 24 hours notice. They blamed HomeAway software for showing their property as available the next day when in fact it apparently was not.. somebody should fix this. Clay
Poor business in a national crisis

We booked a trip through VRBO in Carmel from April 24th-28th for the Big Sur Marathon with another family. When Coronavirus became a national emergency, the race was cancelled and travel restrictions have been recommended by the government. I understand the VRBO policy to be 100% if within 60 days of travel, but I only see that I was refunded 50%. This is a huge loss for us because I paid in full when I booked it several months ago. We tried to contact VRBO by phone, and were on hold for 2 hours before we eventually gave up. I also tried to contact the property manager a few days ago, and have not yet heard back. I would hope that VRBO can do what AirBNB is doing for their customers (full refund for Coronavirus related cancellations). If not, we will probably not use VRBO in the future and we will share our negative experience with family and friends.

I don’t typically post things like this but I think people should be aware. These are scary and unprecedented times and no one knows what the next few weeks will look like. Most companies are being flexible with people as a good company should. Vrbo on the other hand is totally screwing up. They state that they are “encouraging owners to issue refunds” but are 100% standing by owners in their refusal to refund cancelled plans despite the country being in a state of emergency. I don’t know what type of person you need to be to to use a time like this to make a profit but it is definitely not the type of person I would like to associate with. Airlines, hotels, travel companies etc. are adapting and working with consumers. Airbnb is offering full refunds to customers but Vrbo refuses to budge. Shame on Vrbo and shame on the owners who are robbing people of their money without a second thought.

My friends and I booked a property via VRBO and upon our arrival at the property, we were unable to access it due to it accidentally being double booked. The owner offered us an apartment to stay in but it was far too small for our group of 15 so we ended up having to pay for hotel rooms. Called VRBO after the owner told us they would give us a full refund and they just kept transferring us and then proceeded to tell me that the refund had been processed. Called a few days later and was told they had no record of our refund. The owner did work with us on this. Called again and was transferred around for over 2 hours to be hung up on before any progress was made. The owner says they were never paid our money through VRBO and VRBO are being extremely uncooperative and unhelpful. They simply do not care. wish i could give them 0 stars
