Easy and Diverse

I never write reviews, but I'm happy enough with the product, that a positive review is easily justified. I remember paying for something with this product. Either the app itself or an upgrade to more functions: regardless, it was nominal, and I'm always using it, as a reference or to experiment with, while writing.

such an intuitive way to sketch or capture songs.
Great tool
by Fishyburps on 2019/10/05 15:52
This app is really a useful tool. Definitely worth the purchase with add ons. Only thing I wish they had is more tuning options for guitar.
Key change?
by GuitaristFabiana on 2019/09/28 12:10
So the app has a quick way of changing the time signature etc but I don’t find the way to change the key of the scale while messing around with chords. Am I missing something?
Awesome but...

I’ve been with you guys since the beginning of your UJAM website days, even back then I was blown away by what you had accomplished! My hats off to you guys, first the site, then the virtual instruments (which are off the hook!!), and now this! Sheer brilliance!! You took the best of the song writing portion of UJAM and put it in an app, wonderful!!! Only a couple of things... 1st: (at least on my iPad anyway) when I exported the midi via email, I couldn’t write anything in either the subject line, or the body. 2nd: The bass note can’t be changed in a chord, only the root is available. It would be perfect if a multiple bass note function was offered. Other than those two things, well done!! Fantastic job!!! Musicman1099
Great songwriting tool, with one minor flaw
by claudiorivera on 2019/09/21 01:50
This app has been incredibly useful for my songwriting, and I can’t recommend it enough. One feature I would pay money for would be iCloud sync. I would love to be able to start a song on one device and finish on another. Cloud sync would also keep a copy of your songs safely stored, in the event that you lose your phone. Thank you for this amazing app!

This app is awesome. You can use it for so many things. It’s so handy to use as a songwriter and it’s a great practice App for scales. I would recommend this app to anyone from beginner to advanced. Great job
Very well designed app!
by MuzykJunky on 2019/08/08 02:10
Is there a way to change the octave of the piano? There's too much low end in the default octave for me. Outside of that it's the perfect tool for on the go song writing. 👌🏾
5 stars

Great tool

Awesome tool for exploring cord combinations and various scales. One feature I would like to see is a violin fretboard included.
Really cool idea, really well executed
by Eric GSA on 2019/06/24 00:58
Perfect solution to craft midi from your phone for use in later DAW sessions. Would give 5 stars if SUS chords were supported, as I use them all the time. Would give 6 stars if inversions/voicings were supported. Really solid work! Well worth the price. I’m quite impressed!
Circle of Fifths
by 164Poins on 2019/06/08 13:56
It doesn't make me a composer, but it is very insightful. The visuals, along with the musical examples plus few external YouTube videos on the subject, made the subject understandable at least. And, if say I was 21 and not 71, the possibilities would be awesome. All that to say that it is a very good program.
Great app
by Aaron iphone lover on 2019/05/28 14:10
I struggle a lot with chords this helps me a lot I even shared it with my Facebook music group so others cab try it out. I already had one of my members just purchase your app I'm pretty sure a few more will. It's getting a lot of likes. My question is I've searched YouTube for tutorials for the app.Do you have any? And if not will you make any for music beginners like myself. Detailing step by step each option for the app. I think that would be really helpful. Thanks
Very cool app

Very cool app. Nice design and interesting features. The sounds are great. An excellent tool.
Great! But needs improvement
by McToastey on 2019/05/23 05:57
For the most it’s part this is a solid app, But I found that some of the features/tools don’t work correctly or are confusing to use. This app is a great tool overall.

Perfect App for Songwriters and musicians

Incredibly useful and well designed both functionally and aesthetically. The best song writing tool for musicians I have come across so far
Great App
by Cee176 on 2019/04/20 12:53
For someone who doesn’t know how to play major and minor chords or place them in orders that will sound good together such as myself 😂😂😂😂 I love this app, it taking my production to another level
Great..but not yet perfect!
by mhootie on 2019/04/15 08:06
Love this app! It’s super helpful for beginners. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it does not have a zoom feature. I have bad eyes and it can be very hard to see the scales when I’m any distance away from the screen. If they add this feature I will update my review to 5 stars :)
Great app for creating songs! Worth the 3 dollars
by TJOMUSIC on 2019/04/10 14:51
I learned about the circle of fifths recently, but I didn’t realize how useful of a tool it is to create songs! At first, I tried to learn about it and experiment with it on my own, but it takes a good bit of music theory to understand and to apply the concepts. I looked for something similar to this app on line, but this app is pretty much perfect for what I was looking for. This app allows you to choose chords in real time, switch them, and structure complete songs with labels and set the number of playback loops for each part. On top of that, you can choose 4 instruments. When you choose a new chord, it will tell you if the chord is in key. There are multiple scales to choose from, and you can easily switch the key which changes all of your chords but keeps the progressions the same. You can save and export all of them and you can load examples of real songs within the app. Honestly, there are many features to list, ranging from functionality to design elements like colors. This app is very robust and clean. Nothing is gimmicky or extra, and I feel that it is a very powerful song writing tool. Honestly, I feel that the developer deserves every bit of revenue generated by this app. There are no ads or annoying in-app purchases that I can see. If you write songs, want to try writing them, or have ever been stuck wondering what kind of chord progression to create to match the verse, please give this app a try. It is beautiful. Note for the developer: Thank you for creating this app. It is pretty much perfect and I hope that it stays exactly like this. Great work!
Good idea and pretty interface but...
by Ailikou on 2019/04/10 13:40
This looks like a good idea and definitely the kind of tool I need, but I am currently having 2 issues with the app as I use it through a Bluetooth amp to jam on the tracks. - the playback volume cannot be changed while using the app. I have to switch to another app (My MP3 player) to increase or decrease the volume and go back to that guy. - I can’t switch to another app while playing back the chords. It causes the playback to immediately stop.
Great app, missing some important features, though
by bee__thousand on 2019/04/09 20:30
The app offers a variety of features that are super useful for composing a tune, however there are some features that are either hard to find or navigate through, the biggest one for me being that you can’t change the length of chords, only the general time signature. This really limits your options when you’re getting creative.
Great app
by Giovanni_RatedR on 2019/03/24 17:32
Great app super useful I have been looking for something like this for a very long time finally found something that’s useful. I have a request and for the Ableton link which would help immensely thx
Circle of fifths app is really good.
by Cainro on 2019/03/21 14:37
The best money I’ve ever spent on an app. It’s intuitive and easy. It’s crazy good and worth every cent. Buy it.
Best keeps getting better.
by PAPANOJ on 2019/03/12 03:18
This is my go-to app when I just want to develop melodies and progressions, which I do a lot more often than sit to compose on my phone with something like Gadget. Adding features like out-of-mode chords really takes it to new places, although I'd like to see a graphical indicator that an out-of-mode chord still comes from a parallel mode. The export modes are first rate although usually I just run the progressions into my stand-alone sampler and start playing. I could never go back to Android as there is no app this useful to me as a song writer.
Very useful, but battery issues
by NoFearDJB on 2019/03/09 05:02
Really intuitive app that I enjoy using! However it seems this app really taxes my phone as it gets hot almost immediately and dims the screen on my device. Perhaps some process can be disabled while the screen is static?
Fantastic.

I Feel This is the best app you could ever have as a songwriter ,on the go or just sitting there . Love the new features. Feel as if I should pay more . You have made a must have App . Hope you min award !!
The best app that helps musicians
by Shik Shot on 2019/03/01 16:13
So I just got this app. And I can’t get enough of it!!!! It is a powerhouse!!! Extremely helpful for me as a songwriter. I hear some chords in my head, I use the app to remember them and then it develops in the entire songs. Love it so so much!
Wrong chords!
by /JT/ on 2019/02/26 18:24
(For guitar)I just purchased this app and within the first 5 min I noticed that your second variation for the major 7th chords include the dominant 7 not the major 7. Fix that as you will confuse a lot of people. Also, if I may make a suggestion...include more than 2 variations of the selected chord. The right chords that is.
Best musical app ever!
by Neenuz on 2019/02/24 01:26
This app is flawless and will take your musicality to new heights!
like a musician’s sketchbook in your pocket
by Guzzy75728 on 2019/02/20 23:36
great app! recommend it to anyone, particularly those going through a bit of writer’s block who don’t really have all their music theory put together (like me, lol) only issues i have are spoiled ones. i wish there were ways to have chords play when i want them to. for example, if i’m writing in 4/4, i may want: chord I, chord II/III, chord IV, chord V here i would have my third chord progression come in on the second chord’s third and fourth beat, and there’s no way (that i know of) to do that... if it’s 4/4 then i only can use 4 chords. no more, no less. speaking of less, what if i want my third chord to hold out in place of a fourth chord? if i want to replicate that, i have to just repeat the chord in the fourth spot and it’s just not the same i feel like if there was a way to implement these improvements, it would make this app so much more dynamic and a true songwriters companion. no hate tho, i really like this app and would still recommend it!
This app got WAAAAAAAY better
by That Guy124 on 2019/02/08 02:42
I downloaded this app a while back and used it maybe 3 times and haven’t used it since. I’m supposed to be writing a paper right now so naturally I’m going through every single app on my phone to procrastinate. I’m not sure when these guys updated this app but MAN I’m actually excited to use it for what it’s for. The navigation is improved and the quick tips are crazy helpful (so far). Not sure how much I spent on this but it couldn’t have been anything crazy. If you’re looking for an app that will give you a bit of inspiration chord-wise, this app is great.
Great developer who cares about feedback
by calvinbrodice on 2019/02/07 01:25
I posted a negative review of v1 and made a comment about colorblind accessibility. The developer took this feedback and in v2 released this feature. This is a gem of an app backed by a first class developer. Great work!
App is great!
by Mike Fox 🤟 on 2019/02/05 00:54
I love using this app, but one glaring issue is that the app doesn't distinguish chords like Cmaj7 and C7! Hopefully this gets fixed soon! Other than that, the app is super helpful for song writing, testing chords, looking at scales on the go, and much more!
Love it, but it needs keyboard support!
by ZEUS9296 on 2019/01/30 02:39
I love the app but I cant seriously until there is keyboard support, It doesn’t need to be complex (while that would welcomed) all that is really needed is that you could use the keyboard to play cords.
Great Find
by Hallstr on 2019/01/27 18:36
What a flexible tool. Music theory made easy.
Lifesaver
by DevonLeann on 2019/01/25 15:26
I have had a ton of songs that I’ve written lyrics to just wither away, collecting dust because I just couldn’t seem to find the right chords to accompany them.
It’s really good, but...
by Allstar1609 on 2019/01/23 18:29
This app is great, it is a really good tool for musicians. Although I think it could use some improvements: 1.) The ability to use different chord voicings would be great and is definitely something that would be helpful. Maybe use the piano to change the voicing. 2.) the way you change chords on your chord progression was kind of unintuitive to me especially when I’m trying to listen to a chord in my progression and then listen to other chords to use or follow up with and then I accidentally replace the chord in the progression. I’m not sure how to you would go about doing this because I know app design is difficult.
Make changes please
by Sonero91 on 2019/01/23 12:14
Please add chord changes within a bar.. at the very minimum with the update. Would be nice to have chord inversions too.. but otherwise nice app. Will only call it ultimate with listed changes.. Thank you
Circle me impressed!

This app is awesome!
So helpful for musicians and songwriters
by TimTomSr on 2019/01/20 20:18
What I’ve been looking for in an app for a long time, it’s exactly what a songwriter needs to help formulate chord progressions that visually makes sense
So so useful.
by Just Thomas on 2019/01/17 00:10
Nice job. I just saw your App on Instagram purchased it and I am using it like a pro, Especially to replace other apps that held back on key useful features. Thanks guys.

Possible Updates
by Deadjest on 2019/01/15 13:03
This app is great for many different reason, but thought maybe it would be cool if you could change the chords up per measure and have triplet beats. This app is fun to tap the chords as the click track plays at different grooves almost like a sampler, it gives it that chopped sound that has and will always be so popular hip hop crowds. Would be cool to be able to record them as you tap them. I do understand that’s a great reason for the midi export but just a suggestion. Also, maybe I’m not smart enough to find it but is there a way to do inversions? Thanks keep making music fun.
Very useful.
by Dickjustdick on 2019/01/13 03:45
I’m loving this app. I’m not using it to compose music yet. I use it to convert music I want to play on guitar and piano to chord sheets and tabs. Doing this with the circle of fifths accessible makes this fast and relatively easy, and to be able to access related chords that are outside the key is a game changer. The flexibility in song construction (verse, chorus bridge, intro, outro, and much more) is important. The feature I need is to allow more chords to the bar. I can work around it by changing tempo but there are limits. Please consider this.
Great app and highly recommend! But just one thing...
by Les McCrunchy on 2019/01/11 07:16
Why were the key signatures taken out when I switch to the Harmonic minor? It helped out so much when it showed the Roman numerals and the key on the staff. I like the idea of the parallel minor chords thing, but I wish that didn’t take away from displaying solely the harmonic minor on the circle.
suggestion!
by sarahswiftsinger on 2019/01/10 02:30
love the app. would love to add some features in for the chord progression mode -- can we change the time allotted for each chord? sometimes i want it to take up more than one bar, and sometimes i want it to take up less. help? :)
Almost Prefect
by WhySoSerious. on 2019/01/08 16:00
The application works as advertised and well at that. The latest update makes it easier to compose an entire song for sure. The only reason I’m not giving this a 5 star rating is because we cannot change the duration of a chord in the timeline. If I want a chord to play for only 2 beats, I can’t do that. This seems like something that can be achieved by allowing the user to change the duration while assigning the chord’s value. Maybe a little handle or something. This alone would earn my 5thstar. A nice to have would be midi out feature.
Awesome for music production
by ::samus:: on 2019/01/08 01:09
This app is powerful for generating chord progressions. You can create multiple sections of chord progressions of varying length and repetitions. I would gladly pay for the ability to play chord inversions, or have more control over the placement of chords.
Fantastic!
by josh_atl on 2019/01/06 07:09
Great for music theory, song writing, or just jamming with friends. Packs a TON of functionality into the app without it feeling cluttered, with helpful tips on how to use all the features. And I've never experienced any bugs. Very impressed. 👍👍
Really good!
by Cybersnyder on 2019/01/05 16:45
Love the app so far. My only wish would be for a Nashville Number mode.
Love the app. One suggestion
by Bey1 on 2019/01/02 22:59
I feel as an end user that there should be a “start new progression” feature. Like I get the let me hear others songs. But I may just want to jump in and start creating. Anyway. Thanks. Appreciate your doing what you did. Is very functional and the price is great
Excellent with new update
by Kombat Wombat 786 on 2019/01/02 06:01
I have been waiting eagerly for the developer to add the feature whereby one can add a chord not within the current key. Now that this feature has been added I feel like the app is now in a way complete, at least for me. This is a capability that is an integral option for the more serious composer. Great work laddie.
Ultimate circle of fifths
by Harpguitarplayer on 2018/12/28 04:08
The most used App on all my devices. As a songwriter and guitar player, I find this App very practical. My understanding of the Circle of Fifths increased in hours, not days or weeks. Figuring out new chord patterns in the right key is a snap. A guitarist I shared this App with remarked, “It was like opening Pandora’s Guitar Box”. To every aspiring musician, the Ultimate Circle of Fifths is a must in your App arsenal.
Perfect but
by Beezin Steezin on 2018/12/26 06:16
First off I love this app, very helpful and gives good insight if you are beginning your music theory/writing journey how ever there are some flaws. The app does not display chord for many scales melodic/alt etc. And it is kind of limited in the colors of music it helps you to use don’t be expecting an advanced app for jazz theory (it would be awesome if it was) but over all it is great and hope to see some updates that help with more harmony and jazz theory, I’m guessing jazz students are the majority of the people who downloaded this app. 🤩
Beyond Expectations!
by PaulM44 on 2018/12/25 22:55
Now I can really put the Circle of Fifths to work making new songs with confidence thanks to this app!

Need more Chords per Bar
by moadibster on 2018/12/17 22:50
Great app but can’t add more than 1 root chord per bar :(. At least 1 chord per beat should be an option.
Fantastic!
by ivicachem on 2018/12/16 11:46
The new update brought many nice features including the one crucial for me - the ability to use chords which are not in the current key (mode). I have a suggestion for a future version. Say that I want to add E and E7 to the Am key. And maybe A7, for transitioning to Dm. Those additional chords could be permanently added to the current circle by, for example, stacking them behind the diatonic chords with the same root. A long-press gesture (or something else) could be used for revealing all the non-diatonic chords at the presses root so that we can use, edit or remove them.
This update kicks butt
by complainingdude on 2018/12/14 02:24
Simplistic app to see what’s up in the key became a pretty darn strong tool in songwriting process. Thank you guys for making this update.
Honestly? It’s unbelievably amazing!

Overcharged for scale pack
by Grimmonics on 2018/12/13 18:03
Love the app so far - very quick and intuitive to use. Already have a couple of compositions saved and can jam out to the progression with my instruments to work on parts, etc. it would be cool to have more than one chord per measure, been using double time tempo to get around that. I purchased the additional scales pack and was overcharged. It said it was going to charge me $1.99, but I was actually charged $8.42. So buyer beware, you will be charged more than what is listed.

Bumping up my original review with the roll out of these new features!
So nice! 🎉🎼
by JnthnMyrs on 2018/12/09 16:14
This is such a fantastic reference tool for songwriting and composing. It’s so handy for quickly testing out chord progressions that I might not have thought to try. It encourages experimentation, increases knowledge of music theory, and is a delight to use! I would love to see additional chords that aren’t in the chosen key, such as a seventh chord or changing a major chord to a minor chord. Keep it up! This is wonderful! Musically, Jonathan Polyphony
Sweet App!

Not as efficient as intuitive type composition
by Grammy Goals on 2018/10/21 07:42
I am what music theologians would call an “intuitive type” composer. If I am either sleep deprived or preoccupied, this app compensates quite well for the shortage in attention span / our of touch with my senses...
A go-to app!
by Mapa729 on 2018/10/02 21:14
I never leave reviews but use this app almost daily. This is an amazing tool for songwriting and deconstructing songs for practice. Changing modes is a breeze and it’s great for learning scales. Love the thoughtful features that allow midi as well- huge time saver and really well designed. Kudos!
Please make one for guitar
by wizman228 on 2018/09/25 14:22
Good app but I misread when it said for all instruments I assumed this meant guitar. While the theory and progressions apply to all instruments the app is specifically for keyboards. Would be great (for me) if this was modified for guitar with chords and scales with diagrams. But well done and easy on the eyes. Not too much theory just enough
Wow

by Drummer 24 on 2018/08/26 11:00
Great app😀 Only wish I could somehow sing a melody above the recorded progression but also have that record in the app simultaneously. It could be a great foundation for melodic development and ultimately lyrics!! It would also be great if you could get more rows of progressions too. I realize that you can repeat the rows of progressions, but even two more rows and you would have the ability to fully compose a song with a bridge/intro/outro. Now it’s kind of just verse chorus. Now that would be 5 star! Nonetheless fantastic app for the sake of theory! Thanks for all the hard work!!
Thank you

Keys sounding crackle like
by Forestmbrown on 2018/08/17 03:40
This app was amazing until the recent update I’m assuming? Now when a note is played it plays along with a crackle sound as if the speaker on my phone were to be going out. However this is not the case. Music plays through my phone speakers just fine. This app is the only issue.
Awesome app!

Really enjoy this app plus all the different modes. One small suggestion is to make a way to rename the midi files.

Great little app, very helpful for composing and actually hearing chord progressions back for those who don't have relative and perfect pitch. The only thing is that I would love for more customizations of the chords, namely inversions (even in combination with four note chords) and different rhythms that aren't 4/4. Right now, the root of the chord is always on the bottom. Inversions add a different color to the chord and are very widely used in songs and compositions. Some chords in the context of a certain progression just aren't the same sound without inversions. As for rhythms, it would be helpful for more control over how many bars a progression is and how many beats are in a bar. Right now, it's always 4 beats to a bar. Either 4 or 8 bars. I don't think adding different time signatures would be incredibly difficult nor adding custom length of bars any amount between (2-8). Also, adding chord changes within a bar would be awesome. That would add more complexity, sure, but the app for have so much value for making fully realized chord progressions for a song or composition. Other than those things, a solid app with lots of potential for improvement. I'm sure the inversions and rhythms features can be included in a future update.

Incredible app everything I have always looked for I understand chords I understand scales but I can get into the melodies I want this app allowed me to take my idea and put it forward into my music with little hassle quick easy and fun. I would add the if you guys could turn this into a plug-in for DAWs like Ableton or fl studio so then we can use directly in the program. Don’t get me wrong though that midi feature is flawless. I just want to use it in my DAW directly that would be cool. Thanks for this app makes a huge difference in my life.

I study music and perform for a living as well as write my own music on the side. This is a wonderful tool that allows a visual learner like myself to see a chord progression and hear it at the same time. Instead of plinking chords for a half hour trying to find a groove, I can mess around with this for a bit until I find something I like and then bring it over to the piano. This app saved a ton of time for me and I am so glad I purchased it. This is an essential tool for me these days. I would highly recommend!

This is my go-to app to find chord progressions and help with scales. Being able to AirDrop the chords straight from my phone into my DAW is amazing (and it works great with Logic). The only feature I would like is in the scales. I would like it to highlight all the note in the scale on the “keyboard”, without pressing the notes for it to play one by one. I can’t read sheet music well, so seeing all the notes written out that way doesn’t help me. Other than I love this app, keep up the great work!

The circle of fifths is a fantastic tool period. I memorized it and drew it out for years but now I don’t have to do that if I ever need to look at it and utilize it. There are a few things that I would love to see in this app that would change my review to 5-Star: -Change how many chords are in a chord progression. I really want to work with 32 chords. You can only do 4 and 8 now. -Add a seventh on to a single chord without having to make all of them sevenths. You can currently only do this with some of the scales, I believe. -Save chord progression to the app. -Change which octave a chord is being played in. I really want to be able to use this app on the go whenever I’m bored and not sitting beside a piano or my PC. I think these things would really help the app become more useful.

I almost never write reviews for apps but this one felt like it deserves a praise. The UI is very appealing with neat colors and the makers of this app clearly did their research on user base because it caters to both beginners and professionals. I’ve been a musician for about six years now and a UX designer for three, and this is the first time I’m seeing two of my favorite things blend into one awesome entity. At first even I thought if it’ll be worth spending the money for and now I’ve realized the vast possibilities this app has to offer. Sometimes I get writers block when trying to come up with a piece and cannot really place the next chord in the sequence and also I’ve had hard time getting my head around different modes. This app surprisingly has it all and I’d highly recommend any musician to check it out.

Ideas for new updates
by Freshprinceofbethel on 2018/03/11 15:40
App is pretty good and fun to use. I recommend getting it to anyone who wants a better understanding of progressions. I would hope to see in the future options for saving chord progressions, making chord progressions that are longer than 8 bars, and possibly different instrument sounds. I think these are all relatively easy additions. I would also recommend an option to use chords from the parallel minor or modal interchange. This would be a tremendously better app if it had that. It would be worth way more money. I would even pay in app purchase for it if it worked well. I'd rather see it free but people need money. This app is good and is updated pretty regularly. I'd give it five stars if they manage to bring my suggestions to life. I'm hopeful because these don't seem like they would be incredibly hard to add to the already good UI. I would also like to point out a glitch where if you exit to home screen out of the app while having a chord progression being played it can make a horrible spazz noise. Overall really good app that's actually worth the price I'd buy it again.
Fantastic!
by ivicachem on 2018/12/16 11:46
The new update brought many nice features including the one crucial for me - the ability to use chords which are not in the current key (mode).

Best Circle of Fifths App so far
by Siriusvibes on 2018/03/18 00:07
This app is really a nicely done music tool with a great UX. There are a few comments critical of aspects that it lacks to which I would comment give it a chance. The developer appears to be very responsive to suggestions and this is a first cut. We need great tools like this so let’s give them support so they can work on it to continue making improvements. I see a lot of potential for this tool and hope everyone can see this as well and support it. Spread the word. Great job! Looking forward to future versions. Thank you.

by Guzzy75728 on 2019/02/20 23:36
great app! recommend it to anyone, particularly those going through a bit of writer’s block who don’t really have all their music theory put together (like me, lol) only issues i have are spoiled ones. i wish there were ways to have chords play when i want them to. for example, if i’m writing in 4/4, i may want: chord I, chord II/III, chord IV, chord V here i would have my third chord progression come in on the second chord’s third and fourth beat, and there’s no way (that i know of) to do that... if it’s 4/4 then i only can use 4 chords. no more, no less. speaking of less, what if i want my third chord to hold out in place of a fourth chord? if i want to replicate that, i have to just repeat the chord in the fourth spot and it’s just not the same i feel like if there was a way to implement these improvements, it would make this app so much more dynamic and a true songwriters companion. no hate tho, i really like this app and would still recommend it!
This app got WAAAAAAAY better

I downloaded this app a while back and used it maybe 3 times and haven’t used it since. I’m supposed to be writing a paper right now so naturally I’m going through every single app on my phone to procrastinate. I’m not sure when these guys updated this app but MAN I’m actually excited to use it for what it’s for. The navigation is improved and the quick tips are crazy helpful (so far). Not sure how much I spent on this but it couldn’t have been anything crazy. If you’re looking for an app that will give you a bit of inspiration chord-wise, this app is great.

Major or 7th chords all or nothing?
by yobhsif on 2018/02/19 18:16
I try not to review things before I’ve spent a good amount of time with them, but maybe the developer can help me out - is there no way to set progression mode to a minor key?? It seems like you can only switch from EVERYTHING major key to EVERYTHING 7th chords. Maybe there’s a good music theory-oriented reason for this (I bought this ap relatively ignorant of theory after all), but these seem like really basic things - especially the major/minor key signature aspect. All that said, I’m already enjoying and seeing the potential in the ap as is and fully intend to continue using it.
Limited
by Cesco Runi on 2018/03/09 14:14
Given the name I really thought this app would have more features and customizations, the length of the progression is only 4 or 8 bar and there’s no customization within the bar also I would have hope I could write a progression on c Ionian for example and then in the same progression being able to borrow chords from a different c mode, Dorian for example , but instead when I switch to Dorian mode the progression automatically switch to D Dorian , changes the relationship between the chords, understandable, but it would be useful to have the option to actually be able to mix chords from different modes of the same key.
Perfect but
by Beezin Steezin on 2018/12/26 06:16
First off I love this app, very helpful and gives good insight if you are beginning your music theory/writing journey how ever there are some flaws. 🤩
Excellent with new update

I have been waiting eagerly for the developer to add the feature whereby one can add a chord not within the current key. Now that this feature has been added I feel like the app is now in a way complete, at least for me. This is a capability that is an integral option for the more serious composer. Great work laddie.

This app has been incredibly useful for my songwriting, and I can’t recommend it enough. One feature I would pay money for would be iCloud sync. Thank you for this amazing app!

Very good for song writers! Please add more flexibility w the grid.. (I.e. being able to put chords in any part of a bar) This app can be a go to song idea machine for musicians before We record them.. also say I have a chord progression playing, u guys should make it so that when The user switches to scales the user can write a melody also.

I’ve been around a long time. Not only is this the most complete and useful Circle of Fifths tool that I’ve seen in book, or application format, it’s just a great app all around. It introduces user interface paradigms that should become part of iOS and the Mac, and that’s saying a lot. Steve would be proud.

Great tool, great design
by umami on 2018/01/18 08:32
Elegantly designed and easy to use. There’s a wealth of information and utility here. Nice little touches like the next chord in the sequence flickering before it plays. A few small translation quirks in English, but no doubt they’ll get smoothed out in future updates.
Love the app. One suggestion

This app shows the interplay of the scales, modes, and progressions in the circle. It is great for songwriters, music students and theorists. Works well for all instruments; plus works great as a backing track to get down the basics of scales and modes. Also great for improvising basics. A must have for all music students.
Yes, worth it.
by E-TOWNNN on 2018/03/20 06:33
This is an awesome app! I teach music for a living and it's productive and fun to use with students, but great for improvisational practice for myself as well. Is there a way to change the time signature? Maybe in an update? 😬 Phenomenal, still. Practical, user friendly and insightful.

The app is fantastic and the UI is aesthetically pleasing! Except it be great to have the progression keep on playing when I play the song from the music app on the phone. As well as allowing me to exclude certain chords if for example I want to include a rest or sustain a note for one or two measures.

So I just got this app. And I can’t get enough of it!!!! It is a powerhouse!!! Extremely helpful for me as a songwriter. I hear some chords in my head, I use the app to remember them and then it develops in the entire songs. Love it so so much!
Great tool to develop melody
by Drummer 24 on 2018/08/26 11:00
Great app😀 Only wish I could somehow sing a melody above the recorded progression but also have that record in the app simultaneously.
Great app
by Giovanni_RatedR on 2019/03/24 17:32
Great app super useful I have been looking for something like this for a very long time finally found something that’s useful. I have a request and for the Ableton link which would help immensely thx
Fantastic.

I Feel This is the best app you could ever have as a songwriter ,on the go or just sitting there . Love the new features. Feel as if I should pay more . You have made a must have App . Hope you min award !!
Awesome for music production
by ::samus:: on 2019/01/08 01:09
This app is powerful for generating chord progressions. You can create multiple sections of chord progressions of varying length and repetitions. I would gladly pay for the ability to play chord inversions, or have more control over the placement of chords.
Great developer who cares about feedback
by calvinbrodice on 2019/02/07 01:25
I posted a negative review of v1 and made a comment about colorblind accessibility. The developer took this feedback and in v2 released this feature. This is a gem of an app backed by a first class developer. Great work!
Awesome review
by Wallygatorman on 2018/01/24 18:07
This app is sooo very helpful. Former piano player learning guitar. Usually trying to visualize the circle on my piano while playing my guitar! Now trying to learn the relationships of the l, IV, V and full circle on guitar not referring to piano. This makes it so easy to practice. Wonderful. Thx.

Great app

I struggle a lot with chords this helps me a lot I even shared it with my Facebook music group so others cab try it out. I already had one of my members just purchase your app I'm pretty sure a few more will. It's getting a lot of likes. My question is I've searched YouTube for tutorials for the app.Do you have any? And if not will you make any for music beginners like myself. Detailing step by step each option for the app. I think that would be really helpful. Thanks
Very cool app

Great app

Fantastic.

Great Find

Awesome for music production
by ::samus:: on 2019/01/08 01:09
This app is powerful for generating chord progressions.
Love it

Borrowed Chords and Modal Interchange!!!

Great tool to develop melody
by Drummer 24 on 2018/08/26 11:00
Great app😀 Only wish I could somehow sing a melody above the recorded progression but also have that record in the app simultaneously.

Awesome app!
by shayne008 on 2018/07/20 04:11

Fun and super helpful for writing songs!
by wckreation on 2018/07/02 02:09
Great little app, very helpful for composing and actually hearing chord progressions back for those who don't have relative and perfect pitch.

Cool but shallow
by Avocadam on 2018/04/28 03:39
Nice interface but doesn’t run very deep. Being able to borrow chords is pretty clutch as well as come up with something other than a standard 4 bar progression. An option to invert the chords and borrow chords from other modes would make it way more solid. Also, the internal audio engine sounds like it’s clipping/sample of the piano sound very crappy.
Not bad

A bang for the buck
by Krishna Peri on 2018/03/17 01:02
I almost never write reviews for apps but this one felt like it deserves a praise.

Thank you.

great app! recommend it to anyone, particularly those going through a bit of writer’s block who don’t really have all their music theory put together (like me, lol) only issues i have are spoiled ones. i wish there were ways to have chords play when i want them to. for example, if i’m writing in 4/4, i may want: chord I, chord II/III, chord IV, chord V here i would have my third chord progression come in on the second chord’s third and fourth beat, and there’s no way (that i know of) to do that... if it’s 4/4 then i only can use 4 chords. no more, no less. speaking of less, what if i want my third chord to hold out in place of a fourth chord? if i want to replicate that, i have to just repeat the chord in the fourth spot and it’s just not the same i feel like if there was a way to implement these improvements, it would make this app so much more dynamic and a true songwriters companion. no hate tho, i really like this app and would still recommend it!

This app has been incredibly useful for my songwriting, and I can’t recommend it enough. One feature I would pay money for would be iCloud sync. (I.e. being able to put chords in any part of a bar) This app can be a go to song idea machine for musicians before We record them.. also say I have a chord progression playing, u guys should make it so that when The user switches to scales the user can write a melody also.

I’ve been around a long time. Not only is this the most complete and useful Circle of Fifths tool that I’ve seen in book, or application format, it’s just a great app all around. It introduces user interface paradigms that should become part of iOS and the Mac, and that’s saying a lot. Steve would be proud.
A go-to app!
by Mapa729 on 2018/10/02 21:14
I never leave reviews but use this app almost daily. This is an amazing tool for songwriting and deconstructing songs for practice. Changing modes is a breeze and it’s great for learning scales. Love the thoughtful features that allow midi as well- huge time saver and really well designed. Kudos!
One suggestion
by Bey1 on 2019/01/02 22:59
I feel as an end user that there should be a “start new progression” feature. Like I get the let me hear others songs. But I may just want to jump in and start creating. Anyway. Thanks. Appreciate your doing what you did. Is very functional and the price is great
The best

This app shows the interplay of the scales, modes, and progressions in the circle. It is great for songwriters, music students and theorists. Works well for all instruments; plus works great as a backing track to get down the basics of scales and modes. Also great for improvising basics. A must have for all music students.
Fantastic!
by josh_atl on 2019/01/06 07:09
Great for music theory, song writing, or just jamming with friends. Packs a TON of functionality into the app without it feeling cluttered, with helpful tips on how to use all the features. And I've never experienced any bugs. Very impressed. 👍👍
Great but needs work
by The Mordekai on 2018/02/13 23:20
The app is fantastic and the UI is aesthetically pleasing! Except it be great to have the progression keep on playing when I play the song from the music app on the phone. As well as allowing me to exclude certain chords if for example I want to include a rest or sustain a note for one or two measures.
The best app that helps musicians

So I just got this app. And I can’t get enough of it!!!! It is a powerhouse!!! Extremely helpful for me as a songwriter. I hear some chords in my head, I use the app to remember them and then it develops in the entire songs. Love it so so much!
Great tool to develop melody
by Drummer 24 on 2018/08/26 11:00
Great app😀 Only wish I could somehow sing a melody above the recorded progression but also have that record in the app simultaneously.
Great app
by Giovanni_RatedR on 2019/03/24 17:32
Great app super useful I have been looking for something like this for a very long time finally found something that’s useful. I have a request and for the Ableton link which would help immensely thx
Fantastic.

I Feel This is the best app you could ever have as a songwriter ,on the go or just sitting there . Love the new features. Feel as if I should pay more . You have made a must have App . Hope you min award !!
Awesome for music production
by ::samus:: on 2019/01/08 01:09
This app is powerful for generating chord progressions. You can create multiple sections of chord progressions of varying length and repetitions. I would gladly pay for the ability to play chord inversions, or have more control over the placement of chords.
Wonderful. Thx.
