Description
The snapshot app is available to Progressive customers in select states who were offered and enrolled in the mobile version of Snapshot (not the plug-in device) when they purchased their policy. Here's how it works: the app uses the technology on your phone to help you tailor your driving. It measures your driving data, like hard braking and mileage, and gives you personalized tips on how to improve. All you have to do is keep your phone with you as you drive – the app runs in the background, so you can just set it and forget it.
Inaccurate and glitchy
by Ayousefi97 on 2020/01/25 12:20
This app does not know what a hard break is! Also, the app itself crashes when I log in- yet my Progressive app is yelling at me to check snapshot and keep it logged in. Annoying.
Progressive is A Scam
by No Real Dicounts on 2020/01/23 04:05
Don’t buy into Progressive trying to save you money by using the SnapShot app or a discount when you sign up for automatic payments. After having insurance for over a year with Progressive all my efforts to reduce my rate just went back up due to government regulations on fixed prices for insurance. I kept asking for discounts that’s they proudly advertise and was denied because of the market for insurance. I’ve had no accidents or tickets. If you do sign up for insurance make sure they give you the lowest rate possible with the coverage you need because they will hike that rate back up.

Not accurate and will cost you more
by alchemistsjewelrybox on 2020/01/03 03:51
I used this app for a short time and decided to stop because it wasn’t accurate, sometimes it didn’t record my trips at all, it recorded a couple hard brakes in the parking lot of the apartment complex and there is nothing to hard break about in here, there is no room for speeding in this tiny parking lot. Also my kids use my phone to play games and it just recorded it as “being on the phone while driving” yes they were playing a game on the phone, it’s a thing now for kids to do while mama drives. I deleted it and they charged me $13.00 after that, I rather not use the app.
Far too sensitive
by Savage C on SoundCloud on 2020/01/02 16:23
This app really has potential, I probably should’ve just gotten the plug in device. Most of the time the app records hard brakes for most of my trips even when I don’t always brake hard. Also, I can’t help the amount of miles driven each day; who doesn’t drive a lot?
Background refresh doesn’t work

App crashes on new phone
by reviewmoorea on 2019/12/21 12:38

STAY AWAY FROM PROGRESSIVE
by moonlight2525 on 2019/12/13 20:52
Seriously, if you don’t drive much, you’ll be punished for not driving and they’ll remove the discount from your premium. Definitely not worth it. Go with Geico and get a better offer.
Tracks for too long
by ShirenaGM on 2019/12/11 20:35
This app is just okay. It keeps tracking even after you’re done driving so if you grab your phone as soon as you get out of the car or are done parking, it’ll note “phone use” even though you never used your phone while driving. It also notes “phone use” when I use my SpotHero app to park for work. So thanks for giving me a lower score just for that.
App is Useless and Inaccurate
by JasonAsher on 2019/12/10 14:46
App was working fine on my iPhone XS Max, but after upgrading to the iPhone 11 Pro Max, it crashed every single time I try to launch it and select my vehicle. Luckily, uninstalling and reinstalling worked for me, but I see others aren’t so lucky. One issue is that, even when you’re stopped at a red light, or parked in your own garage at home at the end of your trip, if you pick up your phone and unlock the screen, it logs phone usage. Same if a passenger in your car wants to use your phone for music selection or looking something up. Although they claim it doesn’t affect rates, I’d wager it actually does, and likely to a large degree. The biggest frustration, though, is that it logs hard brakes CONSTANTLY, even when you’re not braking hard. My car has smart cruise control that will speed up or slow down on its own. When the car needs to slow down behind other traffic slowing down, BOOM “hard brake.” If someone pulls in front of me from another lane, and happens to be too close and not going fast enough, my car slows down, BOOM “hard brakes.” Just slowing down on my own at traffic lights and stop signs often gives hard brakes. The app is now telling me I’m headed for a rate increase, so now I’m having to shop for new insurance before this thing jacks my rates. Garbage app!!
Glitchy
by Progg2345 on 2019/12/09 05:05
The app is fairly glitchy. There’s a bug somewhere in the software where everytime you open it , it closes while attempting to log in. There’s no update available ...so basically it is unusable most often
No good
by dread angel on 2019/12/07 14:28
The app kept kicking me out, so I uninstalled it. In order to keep my discount, I had to reinstall. I have an older iPhone and the motion and fitness is located somewhere else in settings, so it won’t let me finish setting up the app. I’m so frustrated, with this app. Please fix this problem.

by pdash04 on 2019/12/07 05:36
I LOVED this app more than anything. But when I switched from an iPhone 7+ to my new 11 that app started crashing and I can’t get it to work. The app is not compatible with the new iPhone software. Whenever this issue is fixed I’m sure I will love it again!!

This app worked fine on my iPhone 7 but now it crashes when I try to log in and select my car on my iPhone 11. Now it’s unusable and I can’t get a discount, and based on the reviews I’m not the only person having this problem. This is unacceptable and needs to be fixed.

Doesnt track correctly
by Lyle fox on 2019/12/02 04:29
It doesnt track correctly. It fails to record use of phone correctly. I have google maps up for directions and leave my phone on and set it down but i still get dinged for being responsible. Or if u get out of the car and check your phone. Considering im at a C- for my score and i have a safe driving record and people call me grandpa cause i follow the speed limit and dont run red lights but apparently that is not good driving habits.
Logs you out
by khvargas on 2019/12/02 02:52
I was using the snapshot app to get my discount on progressive and all of the sudden it logged me out and didn’t let me log back in, it said that I did not had a car under my account or that the app wasn’t working at the moment and it suggested me to try later, after a month of trying to log back in over and over again I received an email saying that they removed my discount because I wasn’t using snapshot to record my trips. How is this fair? Fix your app!!
Crashing

Constant crashes, account lock out, and auto opt-out
by lookimwritingareview on 2019/11/15 00:52
This app constantly crashes! I have reinstalled it several times to get it to work. When my husband updated his phone, the app became unusable, and after a few tries locked him out of his account. Now, we’ve been removed from the program, are no longer getting a discount, and no one at progressive will support the app! They prefer to install a device in the car. All because their app is non-functioning. Invest in your developers! This is insane!

Terrible (update, final results)
by NateP350 on 2019/11/09 16:40
Getting penalized for catching red lights on the highway. “Hard brake” penalties every time. I do not use the brakes hard. The lights have no delay and there are cameras. This app is ridiculous. “Fast accelerations” penalties for no reason at all because I have a standard transmission and it isn’t the smoothest sometimes. It is literally impossible not to get a hard brake penalty when a a light suddenly turns red an the speed is 40-55mph. Needs revisions or just scrapped altogether. Stupid that you guys are basing people’s rates off of this battery-draining nonsense. UPDATE. FINAL RESULTS: An increase of $148 to my 6 month policy in addition to the $130 increase for no reason at all. Progressive has incorrectly reported accidents on my record and refuses to acknowledge it. I verified with 2 other insurance companies and have my Clue report in-hand. They also have what has to be the highest priced rideshare insurance in existence. After spending 3 hours on the phone with them in two days and nothing resolved, I’m done. They also recently *dropped* my home insurance because they said they saw a for-rent sign. Been with progressive for nearly 5 years and I am done. This is just too much B.S. BTW, regarding the used junkyard door you guys put on my car, the window tracks have jammed and the window keeps getting lodged, stuck, rolls up too far, and falls down. The paint on the door is fish-eyed because of the sub-par work your recommenced shop did. I’m so angry right now and you people are clueless. You guys also refuse to do your job and get my deductible from the other at-fault driver. Called yesterday and they said it’s “pending.” I’m still waiting, *one year* later. And *zero*diminished value payouts were given to me for my two not-at-fault accidents, with nearly $9000 in damages to my mint-condition car. (1. Sideswiped by drunk driver)(2. t-boned, driving through a green light). I’m still waiting on my payments, Progressive. (I’ll settle for 20% of the value of my car, give me a call....) I hate to write bad reviews, but Progressive brought this on themselves. Stay away from snapshot and don’t trust these people.

Don’t fall for the “save money” lie
by Jenni RRT on 2019/11/04 08:43
I downloaded this app and thought I could use it to save money on my insurance. I haven’t had a ticket or accident in years! No problem right? Wrong. Only tells how you are driving, hard break, fast acceleration and whether you use your phone or not. Well a lot of that we do is accident avoidance, so it dings you for avoiding an accident. It swears that it doesn’t use the “using your phone” against you but it does. It even counts if you have your phone attached via Bluetooth to your vehicle, where you aren’t really using your phone. Long story short it raised my insurance $87 a month!!! Absolute trash. I would give it zero stars if I could. It doesn’t save you money it gives them more and you cannot get out of it.
Stupid design .
by Yashi Rawal on 2019/11/03 01:47
Being a developer and designer , this app hurts . I can’t believe people got paid to make something so basic yet they messed up so bad . This app counts using music and maps as phone usage . I am not using my phone it’s connected to Bluetooth . Yet I am being penalized because the developers / designers did not think it through

I feel like there are so many bad reviews that I need to include my input. I've had this app for almost 6 months now and haven't had many issues at all, and it's easy to use. It connects to my Bluetooth, I put it in the little slot next to my cup holder, and go. The trips log accurately, and if you aren't the one driving for a trip that's logged, all you have to do is change yourself to the "passenger" afterwards. Easy. Done. I'm only 22, so I'm not the best driver, but the app is extremely fair when it comes to logging for hard brakes or fast acceleration. I do drive a Jeep wrangler, so obviously both of those things are a bit harder to do anyway since I can't really stop/ speed up all too fast. If you're on your phone, yes it will mark it as an "event", but I talked to my agent and phone use really does not affect your score considering we use it for navigation, music, etc. Also, if you do have any issues, just call your agent. They've fixed a few quirks for me without a problem, for instance turning off the tracking and not being able to turn it back on. Again though, just call them if something isn't right lol. The app works however you want it too. Stop being difficult and the app will too..or you can just drive better and have common sense 🤷🏻‍♀️ (I have an iPhone Xs Max for anyone who thinks it might just be their phone that's "not working")
Ridiculously sensitive hard brakes
by Bascon on 2019/11/01 01:32
I have noted the prior reviews which i didnt really have a problem with when I had it on my old Iphone SE. I changed my phone, reinstalled, gave it an additional 2 weeks, and had a friend ride with me to tell me if I had any hard breaks. None at all. I had him drive too. And we didn’t have any hard breaks but yet again detected 1-2 per day. And everyone knows what a hard break really feels like and I this app is doing everyone an injustice by over-detecting hard breaks. PLEASE PLEASE RECALIBRATE THE APP YOU WILL LOSE CUSTOMERS BEC OF THIS
Worst App Ever
by fivealive 75 on 2019/10/30 15:06
Progressive demands you download this app and keep it open to collect your driving data in order to personalize your rates. Except this piece of crap never works and then Progressive sends annoying emails repeatedly saying you need to send your data now. Perhaps if you got your crap together, you would receive the data you seem so desperate for.
Keeps crashing!
by tweepark on 2019/10/29 00:48
I try to log in so that the app can record data, but after I register my phone and select my vehicle, it closes the app! It was working a few weeks ago, but I haven’t been able to set it up since I got a new phone.
This app is not accurate
by Eugene Sanford on 2019/10/28 22:45
This app starts running even when your not the driver in the car. I literally don’t drive my car as often as I should and usually in the passenger seat and it records it and puts it as your own driving. Then when I turned off it kinda backfired. This is the worst way to monitor your driving.

Don’t stop for a yellow light!
by Sam Gent on 2019/10/26 04:38
I have had this app for about 3 months: Driving safely requires hard breaking from time to time. I was passing through an intersection at 45 mph. The light changed to yellow as I got close. The thought actually crossed my mind, “If I stop, the app will penalize me.” Doing the safe thing and not blowing through the red light was going to get me a penalty. I stopped, and later checked the app. Yes I was penalized for hard breaking. Another time, for whatever reason someone a few cars ahead slammed on their breaks. The chain reaction came back to me. I wasn’t tailgating the guy, we had maybe 5 or so car length between us but I had to break fairly hard. Checked the app later, yes I was penalized for hard breaking. Maybe I shouldn’t worry about the penalties I get from the app. It angers me greatly that they have gotten in my head so much about hard breaking that when I need to break harder for whatever reason, I think, “Oh they’re gonna get me for this.” I don’t need this. I’ll pay whatever extra. Or maybe try another insurance that has a better app.
Noticeable battery drain
by Yebo29 on 2019/10/26 04:32
I used to end the day with at least 20-40% battery, after app install I end at less than 20%. Otherwise accurate most of the time, with some odd entries from time-to-time. Once I went on a run to the park and it clocked it as a drive with phone usage. I definitely don’t run that fast, and I wasn’t on roads.
It’d be great if it worked...
by hollyewhite on 2019/10/25 02:40
I’m a developer, and I work with native devices. This app is crashing immediately after you select the vehicle since the latest iOS update. I wouldn’t be upset but Progressive just sent me an email threatening to remove my discount if I didn’t use the app or call them. As much as I’d love to waste my time (definitely tweeted support about this and they told me to call) calling to go through numerous levels of support to tell you that your app is broke, I’d rather not have to explain it to several levels of support. And nah, don’t want that device in my car again. It’s inaccurate, invasive and embarrassing. I’d rather find another insurance company that spends money on quality developers. The team could have prevented this, been prepared... doesn’t make me feel like Progressive is prepared to cover me.

NEEDS WORK
by Ugk0430 on 2019/10/19 05:05
This app needs major improvement in the data collecting sensors part of the programming. Should have some kind of test with user to understand and synchronize to function with more accuracy. For my case, I got it for the discount because im on college student financial status. And I have a manual transmission car, which is my first manual transmission that I taught myself with, and has stage 1 clutch so for me it did not work for me at all because of first gear buck it thinks i have fast acceleration and incorrect hard brakes, I am a decent driver I know not to put too much stress on my brakes and tires. Again college student financial status. Keep improving!!

Avoid this unless you always hinder the flow of traffic
by ermadragon on 2019/10/16 01:53
Most of my driving to and from work is on a highway. Snapshot expects you to pull onto a fast highway slowly and make everyone coming up behind you to brake and cause congestion and potential accidents. It also expects you to coast to a stop at changing lights on this swift highway so you stop after the intersection and run the red. Oh sorry officer- my snapshot app wants me to brake slower- not my fault I got T-boned- those drivers should have merely taken their foot off the brake and not applied any acceleration from their stop. My choice will be to dump this insurance as soon as possible. It should be noted that my driving record is fairly clean. One accident from black ice 20 years ago and no tickets since longer than that when I was a teenager. 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it’s the fast acceleration and hard braking that makes all the difference.

by Justin6183 on 2019/10/14 00:16

Not fair
by ggggjuhgyuffhk on 2019/09/15 13:43
This app calculates me driving if I’m on a bus o in a friends car or taxi. I live where streets T into freeway no lights. So I need to accelerate quickly to get up to freeway speed I get charged for speed and acceleration. If a car pulls in front of me or an animal I get charged for hard breaking. On a motorcycle you have to go around trucks and constantly speed up and brake do to cars not seeing you I get charged for speed and braking. All this mentioned is normal driving I’m already down to a C it’s a system designed to get more money out of drivers for poor habits that aren’t poor at all.
Such a waste of time
by iekhar on 2019/09/10 04:36
Battery drainer!!! Inaccurate!! So annoying!! Takes a life time to evaluate!! After it’s done with evaluation, you will most likely receive 0 discount or even a price increase regardless of the score. It’s just a way to keep you hoping for a discount, and keep you as a policy holder. P.S. you never know what happens to your driving data!!!
Horrible app!
by Ladymusican on 2019/09/07 20:12
This app lowers your points for everything, all considered EVENTS LIKE PHONE FALLING WHILE DRIVING, talking on the phone through the car, using the radio, playing music through YouTube, sitting still and car on it records everything. This is just another way to make more money off of people. It’s SCAM DON’T DO IT YOU WONT SAVE MONEY EVER!

Hold on
by Cmchuck on 2019/08/25 21:27
I use the cruise control when doing freeway driving. My can senses speed of vehicle ahead of me. I get message from Progressive, stating that I may be in for a rate increase, due to sudden stops. The sensors on my van caused me to have sudden stops. Maybe Honda should get that rate increase. Under the circumstances, the app has been removed. A safety feature of my vehicle is going to cause me to have a rate increase? Big Brother needs all of the facts.
New customer and this app makes me want to change insurance companies
by Kristenelyse7 on 2019/08/22 23:24
I’ve been a customer for 2 months. The app only worked for maybe two weeks. I got a new phone and tried to download and register the app but continued getting error messages. Ultimately got a message saying my account is locked. Then I called the 1-800 number. They stated it was bc I got a new phone that it wasn’t working and they put me down as getting a new phone and told me to delete and reinstall the app. Still not working. Called the 1-800 number again, got the verification code from the rep. Now I’m getting an error message when validating the one car on the policy. Then told to uninstall the app again, restart my phone, and reinstall the app. Still the same error message. Rep told me not sure why this is happening and to try again tomorrow. Why should my discount be dependent on an unreliable app. I’ve got at least an hour wrapped up in this. Complete waste of my time and inconvenient. Get it together Progressive!!!
Waste of space

Don’t even waste your phone space with this useless app. It is inaccurate and functions poorly. It will not help your insurance costs and will only drain your battery.
Inaccurate
by panda212110 on 2019/08/20 20:13
The app records the trip even while riding on public transportation, therefore if one is using the phone the app records the porcentaje of the phone usage. It even registers the unexpected moves as hard brakes.
Not worth it
by macncheese53211 on 2019/08/16 00:52
Used this for 6 months and saved $15 on my total bill, even though I only had ever had “hard brakes” 3 times. For 6 months of battery draining and constant logging of times when I was the driver and when I wasn’t, this was NOT worth saving $15 total. I was expecting a huge discount after all of the hassle but no luck. There’s no point.
Needs wifi when I am driving 🤣

I downloaded the app.and was using it for about a couple of months. My insurance agent accidentally dropped my coverage and Progressive was not able to continue on with my progress once the mistake was corrected. I received an email telling me to delete the app, I did. Now I keep getting emails saying my discount is going to be dropped due to not downloading the app!! I called CS and explained to them if they could send me the device to plug into the port and they said they would, I have yet to receive it. This company is so disorganized. Not happy with them at all.

App is lacking
by mpratherTB on 2019/07/31 21:46
App is very lacking. It counts phone usage against you if you use your phone to pay or scan for points in the drive through. Also be aware it tracks your every move.
Needs a lot of work.
by Atonyé on 2019/07/31 01:03
I won’t repeat the things that others have said. However I’ve noticed that it continues to take points for a hard stop on freeway exits. As well as take points for fast acceleration on freeway entrances. I think that both of those should be exempt from fast starts and stops unless you have a hard stop on a freeway entrance and a fast acceleration on the freeway exit. Those could both definitely cause accidents and they would both mean that the driver was not being safe. But fast acceleration on an entrance and hard stops on an exit are almost a given depending on traffic. They can be avoided but it’s not likely. That among the other things that people have mentioned are the reasons why this app gets one star. If an app is going to affect how much I pay monthly on insurance, I would think that it would be put together a lot better than what it is.
Completely inaccurate app
by mbvett on 2019/07/26 21:29
For example: we were on vacation July 6 thru the 13th and the app recorded several trips in the car we left a in the garage at home. It’s totally worthless. (We have no kids nor anyone else living there).
Do not waste your time
by PoundCakePaul on 2019/07/19 03:32
This app is absolute garbage. It determines how good of a driver you are by how often you brake and accelerate hard. This is not an accurate method to gauge the skill of a driver. Also, the app is running at all times. If you have to accelerate quickly onto a busy road... the app won’t like that because it’s a hard acceleration. If you don’t want to run over an animal on the road... looks like you’re taking the deer with you because you can’t afford a hard brake on the app! This application is a scam. You will end up paying more for you’re insurance. It is clearly set up for you to fail.
Inaccurate
by ebb-eb on 2019/07/16 20:37
I just got the app and already I don’t like it. I am new to the app and have called Progress several times to try to figure out how to work it. For example I called to find out how to let the app know when I am not driving. The representative told me “ oh it should automatically know” and continued to explain that I can just pause the trip, and talked me through how to pause the trip. Pausing a trip is to my knowledge is for the entire day sometimes more. I found that to be strange that you couldn't indicate that your not the driver for a trip. The next day I decided to play around with it and discovered the button on the top left allows you to indicate when your not driving or ride sharing etc. Because I’m still learning I’m not sure if you can only do this after the trip is over. Lastly the App is not accurate. My issue is that the app indicates that I had an event but when I click the trip each section says zero. I really would like this app to be accurate despite my driver status especially if I’m going to be held responsible. I am going to call progressive one last time hopefully someone can explain what’s happening to me, if not I’m deleting the app.
Inaccurate
by C.Burnett on 2019/07/16 13:38
This app needs a lot of work. There is always plenty of space between me and the next car, I am not speeding and suddenly stoping, or am I tailgating and hitting the brake last minute at a stop light. So why does this app tell me I am hard braking all the time? This is the issue with many people writing reviews so obviously this is a big issue. I know what a hard brake is and I rarely if ever hard brake. If you are choosing to use this app to lower your rate I would honestly just pay the extra few dollars to opt out of using it.
Has potential, but has issues
by Cputz on 2018/08/20 00:30
The app in itself seems to run fairly well. Unfortunately, the app also falls short on so many levels. My first major complaint is that the app doesn’t always seem to log trips accurately. More specifically, if you arrive at your destination, park the car, and go on your phone, the app logs your phone usage as if you’re driving and using your phone. For some reason, the app can’t seem to recognize if you’re driving or not when you are on the phone. My next complaint is the lack of information that the app gives you. Ideally, the app should tell you things like how many times you were speeding, frequent lane changes, failure to yield or stop, etc,. In fact, the only info it gives is how many times you had a hard start or hard stop, and how many times you used the phone. An app that could be used to educate them on their driving habits only appears to be used as a tattletale on the driver. My final major complaint is that the app requires location services to be on at all times, which drains the battery fast. There should be an option to use location services only when you open the app, primarily when you know you’ll be driving.

The app could use some work
by rocklee2 on 2017/11/14 15:25
I feel the app is pretty fair and is definitely a good representation of how you drive I first got it and read a ton of reviews and was nervous about being scored unfairly but I feel like everyone who is complaining about the hard breaks probably are at fault for the breaks being slammed for going way to fast and I know that some situations are like that at times but not every single day and I live in Atlanta where traffic is terrible almost everyday and people do sudden sharp turns in front of you but my real complaint about the app is it drains my battery entirely too much I will barely use my phone in some days and me just going on a 30 min drive will drain my phone to almost 60 and that’s just the beginning of the day. That’s a major problem especially when I have to be out all day and can’t charge my phone. Please progressive fix this because I want to keep the app and everything but I can’t keep my phone dying every 4 hours. Other than that I feel the app is pretty fair on how it rates and scores you just ease up on the driver in front of you and be mindful of others around and it won’t score you so harshly
Can’t Categorize Properly
by CaptainKTV on 2018/02/02 16:32
I have no problem with the app unfairly judging my driving. My real problem is that I RARELY drive - maybe one round trip per week - and it categorizes every time I’m in an Uber or a bus or a friend’s car as me being the driver. I know I have the opportunity to re-categorize it, but I often forget the app is running in the background and don’t remember to do it until a week later. At that point it tells me the trip is “too old to categorize.” It would seem a trip becomes too old after only 5 days. I assume they think this helps keep the information accurate because some people might forget whether they were driving or not. However, because I rarely drive, I have absolutely no problem remembering when it was me behind the wheel and when it wasn’t. As a result of this, I have about 10 “hard brakes” that weren’t actually me, and about 100 “phone uses” from times when I was the passenger (after having the app for only 2 weeks). At the very least, the app should send a notification prompting you to categorize drives before they become to old. But ideally, they would never become too old.
It’s worth of trying out
by 1aibohphobia1 on 2018/11/15 21:10
The specific categories that the app is recording or monitoring don’t seem to be very good descriptors of good or bad driving. They also do not accurately record the information. I don’t want my rates set based upon inaccurate info how does my good driving benefit me then? It doesn’t it only benefits them because I am driving more carefully yet they are charging me the same price as if I were not using the app at all. They need to set up a concrete system where the app is recording the correct info and a reward system that we can see before we get a policy. Example if a policy holder has fewer than 500 hard breaking situations a month there is a 10% break on their policy that month or for every min of phone usage they lose .001% off any % reduction they have earned. Those numbers are for explanation only real numbers would need research behind them. The first and more important issue is the accuracy of the app and the categories that are monitored. They need to be more accurate if you are going to make any financial base decisions about any policy holders account.
Not a accurate tracking on cell of driving
by darlasmiles on 2019/03/02 17:23
It seems to have potential for some good advice on tips, but it certainly does not give a true accounting of the driving & if a person is or is NOT on the cell phone. I have the app. Consistently rating me off on hard braking which I never do! If I did I would know that I did it & it would have been for a reason. But it hasn’t happened. My car & breaks are in good mechanical working condition. No issues. I even had them checked after this & was told that nothing is wrong & when other passengers are in the car, they do not notice a breaking issue??? Yet the app keeps saying there is!! It’s so in sane!!! If GPS is on it say there is phone use. If phone ring even if it’s ignored & not answering it says phone use?? If I try to adjust when I’m not driving my score goes down when I haven’t done anything wrong??? The app just makes no sense to me. I’m feeling as if it’s going to be an excuse to charge me more when I’m not doing anything wrong!! Bugs need to be worked out on this before I trust that this is trusted.

“The Chosen Pessimist”
by purplepride69 on 2018/09/08 04:33
First off, let me say that I rarely(if ever) take the time to write reviews about ANYTHING these days, but felt compelled to after reading all of the “negativity” about this app....I firmly believe that most of the drivers on the road today are POOR drivers who take “things for granted” when they get behind the wheel everyday....Sure, I had my share of “Hard Brakes” show up from time to time, but every time I got one I deserved it....I used to have a bit of a “lead foot” in the past that caused me to hit the brakes a little hard to slow down for a stop light or when someone cut in front of me... But this app actually helped me cure that somewhat, because you think about it more....Also, ALOT of people complained about they’re batteries on they’re phones draining because of the app...These people are either NOT very intelligent, or they just own a cheap phone....you don’t even have to have the app running in the “background” for it to work...! You just download it onto your phone, and it automatically logs your information EVEN IF YOUR PHONE IS OFF...! Therefore, NO BATTERY DRAIN....I have an aging iPhone 6+ and the app DOES NOT DRAIN A FRACTION OF MY POWER...! In a short summary, I will say GET THE APP if you want to save money on your insurance (It took $40 a month off my policy) And ignore all those other reviews, these people are simply BAD DRIVERS....😉 Thanks Progressive!!
I wish I could go back.
by Lexus G. 💕 on 2019/04/17 17:33
This app makes me so mad! You have less than 7 days to go and check your driving. And if you were a passenger, and use your phone, or the actual driver who is driving you is not that good, you get marked for it. There’s been so many times where I was NOT the driver, and got marked for stuff I didn’t do! I don’t regularly use the app, and honestly forget that I have this app 98% of the time! I am a great driver. But it’s not fair that my score will potentially drop for trips that I didn’t even drive?!? I hope someone can get back to me so I can fix this? Because boy this really stresses me out. I’m going to set nightly alarms to check the app and mark the times I was not driving. Because this is ridiculous and so stressful.
Hard brakes
by Vans r Cool still on 2019/02/12 05:17
There is no accurate readings on the “hard brake” indication . There will be times when I come to a stop with normal speed deceleration and gliding into a complete stop but shows as if I had a hard brake. There should be a description that explains what causes a hard brake. My opinion for a hard brake is noticing a stop light a last minute or having to abruptly stop because a car stopped. Which that also is picky if someone else’s not paying attention and they stop for not paying attention to the person in front causes that butterfly effect where you have to stop. However, I know when I do brake hard. Not sure. I believe clear descriptions on what causes for hard brakes would be great. My reason for low rating is I’m in a minivan. I can’t hard brake a van it’s to heavy to rely on an immediate brake to much momentum in those bad boys you gotta pump those brakes early to make sure you stop.

🤷🏻‍♀️ but it’s the fast acceleration and hard braking that makes all the difference.

by Britebrite on 2018/04/12 20:16
This app is really something else. I work the grave yard shift and I’m being penalized for it. When my gps is running and my screen goes dark, the app counts me going back to the app as a phone use. They say that a phone use isn’t reflected on the score but I don’t believe it. As for the hard brakes, if you’re not going 5 miles an hour and you don’t use your pinky toe then it will count as a dam hard stop. I live in jersey ( home of the short stops & cut offs) and because of others poor choices my performance is being effected. Everything is considered a fast acceleration if you put your foot on the gas once the light turns green. It’s a lose lose situation. It’s like they made this app to discredit drivers and the plug in is probably worse. I’ll be looking for new insurance soon because progressive is not cutting it. I doubt any other insurance is this extra smfh.
Worst app- don’t get this app- driver illusion
by i hate snapshot on 2019/02/27 06:35
I do not recommend any driver to take this app for discount. This is just an illusion Progressive creates for driver saying this app will monitor your driving habit and then you get discount. Don't get into it, they are just misleading you. They did the same to me and I used the app. During that period I drove carefully hoping to get discount. Even if you brake very slowly in red light, it records as hard brake. When you accelerate to merge to highway it records as high acceleration. Dude do you want me to merge into highway with 40 mph speed?? How realistic is it? Wont any vehicle behind me with 65 mph end up hitting me? And any time you are not a driver you need to go to app and update that you are a passenger- another headache. This app simply increased my insurance on basis of my driving habit that it recorded. I hate this app, so deleted it finally.
Inaccurate in so many ways
by Havox09 on 2018/07/25 13:42
Like everyone says, this app has many faults. It will say that I am hard braking even unless I slow to a crawl and stop. Sometimes when I am a passenger and I can tell when a hard brake is done it won’t say anything at all. It really makes no sense in the logic. Also I have had it say I am making a fast acceleration when entering onto a highway. I’m not flooring my gas pedal in any way and making a normal acceleration to enter a highway like every other person who is going onto the highway, so why would I be docked for that? In addition this drains my phones battery to the extreme. I’ve had this app track and monitor my driving for over 2 months now and the progress bar is not even 25% full. It’s seriously ridiculous. I was under the impression that it was only a 30-60 day thing.
Kindof disappointed
by katladyxoxox on 2018/09/25 04:27
I drive like a grandma and my family likes to give me a hard time because of it. I notice that I have hard brakes several times when realistically I’ve had maybe two. There are times when my phone is in the cup holder next to me and tips over when I turn a corner, it tells me I had a hard break. A bit frustrating. I bought a new phone and redownloaded the app and it won’t let me sign in anymore due to too many attempts. Confused about this. After reading all of the reviews, I’m nervous to even have it again because I don’t want my insurance to go up even though I know I am a good driver. I feel like I am being generous for giving it three stars.
Worked great on my 6s but not on my new XR
by Linds1128 on 2018/12/21 16:59
my last few weeks of driving haven’t even been tracked because this app crashes on my new XR to the point it doesn’t realize that this phone was ever registered. On my 6s it worked pretty good I had no issues with phone use even when using hands free music, Bluetooth calls still count though. And Even though I had a 6s with the faulty failing battery it gave me no additional battery issues and ran perfect in the background. I just wish it was compatible with this new phone.
Not at all accurate and major battery drain
by Sepoy arty on 2017/10/09 16:17
I agree with all other reviews below; 1. It is not my fault when I do a "hard brake" when someone in front of me decides to do a last second sharp turn into a parking lot/street. I live in NJ which is crowded on usual "off" driving hours and have to deal with constant drivers like this. Does progressive want me to get into an accident instead? 2. My phone battery is already pretty weak and it drained my fully charged phone to 70% just on a 30 min drive to work this morning. I will be calling progressive tonight and will be telling them to get me off this app as it drains battery too fast and makes you the driver responsible for whoever else is driving poorly wherever you go.
No longer tracking?
by Thnx4headache on 2018/01/09 22:47
UPDATE: I think the app is just slow updating my trips. Everything looks okay now. Everything was working fine until yesterday (1/8/18) after work. The app hasn’t been tracking my trips. There was my drive home after work, drive to dinner as a passenger (boyfriend drove), and then driving to work this morning (1/9/18). Is it something as simply as uninstalling and downloading the app again to fix the problem? Or is there something else wrong with the app?
Charged for App not working
by JL3123 on 2018/11/15 20:12
What an absolute terrible app and development team. Not only do I get charged $125 because the app could not connect (even though I did everything on my end) but also unless you are a “new” customer you can’t even have access to it. What company designs an app so that only “new” customers can use? Way to make things convenient for your loyal, long term customers! Now, b/c Progressive’s App failed, they blame me for it and only way to get discount again is by sending me a device to have plugged into my car 24/7. I also don’t get the full discount cause you know they need some money from me. Really on top of your game Progressive...
Fine but needs work
by Kaycee Chappell on 2018/04/04 21:00
I think you are judged fairly, sometimes it’s frustrating and maybe a little harsh, but just pay more attention. I didn’t even have my car though for an entire weekend as it was in the shop and I forgot to check snapshot and the person I was driving with got 3 hard brakes! I waited a couple days and it was too old to change to a passenger... that’s not fair at all it wasn’t even a week, I have proof I did not have my car, that should be able to be changed. I am beyond irritated.
Battery drainer
by Gsjssk on 2018/06/06 03:55
So I love that this is an option, especially because I don’t want to plug anything into my car. But I have this extremely relevant problem of my battery draining/dying because of this app. So I get it has to run all the time, but there HAS to be something you can do to help with this problem. It can’t record my driving if my phone dies in the middle of a trip. Also, there should be an option for when a passenger uses the mobile device as well, but that’s just a personal opinion.
Worthless
by ozmation on 2019/06/02 13:40
This is useless software. Let me give examples: 1: I went on vacation for a week with someone else who had the app. The other person was driving us to various sites in Wisconsin. I put in the app that I was not driving (because I wasn’t) and it said my data was not any good because I truthfully entered when I was driving or not. 2: If you use google maps or listen to books while you are driving it dings you for that (remember I was copilot in #1). 3: it also dings you for tapping your brakes on the highway for having too short following because the app is not smart enough to know you are trying to keep that 10 car length between you and the next guy. 4: I called about the notice on my phone and they told me it was not a problem everything looked good but it quit working altogether in three days anyway. 5: I have not experienced a less functional app or terrible service or trained support staff. Overall I am hugely disappointed.
Good and not so good
by A. S. Weathers on 2019/03/02 05:32
I appreciate what the app does. But it is killing my battery. Whenever I use this app, other functions on my phone are interrupted and run slower. Is there a better way to do this without constantly killing my battery? I really want to erase it but I want the discount. I’ve read reviews about the other device and it drains the vehicle’s battery as well. I do not want to kill another phone due to over charging because this app is taking over my entire device. Please try and work that out.
NEEDS WORK
by Ugk0430 on 2019/10/19 05:05
This app needs major improvement in the data collecting sensors part of the programming.
Not worth it
by meredith.g on 2019/01/29 13:29
I’ve been a cautious driver for 20+ years and have only been in a couple minor fender-benders, neither of which were my fault, so I thought it would be great to demonstrate that to my insurance company and maybe get a lower rate. At the end of the 6-month spying period I got a B+ (I think because if you don’t spend 5 minutes slowly idling up to every stop it counts as a hard stop) and my rates went up $75/month. They blamed the increase on state-imposed fees rather than my driving, which may be true, but whatever the reason I wish I hadn’t spent 6 months obsessing over my every move in the car for no reason.
My daily 4-5 min drive and I have 2 hard breaks at the 2 dips everyday!!!!
by So tired💪 on 2018/04/21 08:17
I’m disappointed in the fact that I have perfect driving except for “hard breaks”. The app claims that I have hard breaks no matter what on a 25mile street at the 2 dips that are in the road. I have purposely gone 10-15miles with a slight tap on the break and it still states hard break.I am the person that just drives my little 5 minutes to work (residential area/one street)and back home daily; and I’m getting a low driving rate!😡 Also make sure that you let the app no when you’re a passenger!!!! I got 11 dings on 1 trip because of that!!!
Inaccurate Data
by Ellebusymom on 2019/05/08 01:57
I am very disappointed with the apps ability to read accurate information. I barely drive on the weekends and it constantly shows I am driving when i am a passenger. For example, this past weekend, I did not drive on Saturday evening or Sunday all day. However, the app had 3 trips on Saturday night and 5 trips on Sunday. Also, I see many hard breaks when none have occurred. If I use maps for gps or the phone in my car Bluetooth, it shows a high percentage phone usage. The application continues to provide inaccurate driving data and it is very disappointing.
Discount “Work Around”
by jdlov1977 on 2018/10/23 00:35
So I read some reviews and thought “why not give up my privacy for 6 months” to get this great discount! Well first 4 months I was an A Driver and ended at a B+. App said I was going to save...however, they don’t tell you that when you originally sign up they give you a discount for signing the documents online. So at renewal they take that discount away and add the SnapShot discount. The eSign discount is more than being a good driver so I get to pay more and there was NO reason to give up my privacy. It’s false advertising.
Warning: Massive data use
by EJV84 on 2018/12/01 05:27
My data usage skyrocketed after I downloaded and started using this app. It was insane, like someone was pirating data from my phone. Once I disconnected from the app, stopped. For comparison, my phone was using 97% of the data for our billing cycle while my family member’s used 2.7%— and they are someone who is constantly on the internet, checking emails, reading news for work. As soon as I turned it off it went back to normal. I’m annoyed because I was rated as a very safe driver and could use the discount but it’s not worth whatever data mining is going on.
Accuracy Problems
by Celts93 on 2017/10/02 03:35
The app does not accurately track when I am driving. I can tell you with assurance, I did not get in my parked car on the highway bridge and start my trip. Seeing as how my progress bar isn't very full since I don't get many miles per day, it's frustrating when the app tells me it's time to hit the road, when the app only tracks bits and pieces of my trips. I am the only person in my car ever, so I am not having constant issues with phone usage events.
Not fair
by ggggjuhgyuffhk on 2019/09/15 13:43
This app calculates me driving if I’m on a bus o in a friends car or taxi.
Total waste of time
by  on 2019/06/14 19:18
Progressive asks you to download this app to try and save money but it doesn’t work. It just collects data on you. It would collect data while I was in the passenger seat. It knocks points off if it feels you break too hard which is a total joke. I’m a sales rep so I use my phone GPS while I drive which you also lose points for because it’s considered phone usage while driving. If you drive past a certain time you lose points for late driving. Just a total waste and now I feel like they just collected useless data on me.
Seems to work well but....
by brasilkid18 on 2019/05/16 01:41
Requires location services to be on always, which is a notable drain on battery life. I used to get almost 36 hours on a full charge (iPhone 7+), but now I find myself plugging in in less than 24. Phone also gets warm while actually driving, like playing a graphics-intensive game kind of warm. Not enough to be concerned about safety, but I don’t necessarily like how hard this app makes my phone run in general. Edit: dropping to 1 star. App constantly uses data, and put me over my limit and cost me an extra $15.... SO MUCH FOR SAVING MONEY.
I can already tell..
by Gaub22 on 2019/04/24 23:27
I only signed up for the app a day and a half ago..(I had the plug in device a long time ago)..anyway, I can already tell I’m not going to like this. I’ve driven to/from work and it hasn’t logged a single thing. When I get to my destination it says “it looks like you’re driving..blah blah blah” ok great, but where’s the logging information? everything still says 0 miles 0 trips..all of it. Also, I’m struggling with the idea that I will be penalized if the passenger of my car uses my phone while I’m driving. How can the app tell if I’m a passenger or driver??
Problems problems and more problems...
by IP-27 on 2019/05/08 11:19
This app is not accurate at all. It shows I brake hard every time I turn onto the Farm Market road to get home which I never have “my head move forwards” when I’m braking at that turn. I use Sync with my truck and every once in awhile it shows my Sync calls as phone usage. And lastly the app should have an option to comment on why you had a hard brake, fast acceleration, phone use. Sometimes idiots will pull out in front of you so you’ll have to brake hard to avoid an accident
Don’t see why the rating is so low!
by mzmorgann on 2019/02/19 04:39
I almost gave it a 5 star. However, the app isn’t perfect, but it is for sure pretty accurate. Unless the app is going to begin failing on me, I don’t really understand why the rating for this is so low. It actually made me skeptical to use it. However, if you were skeptical like me, unless you are a bad driver, no need to worry here.
Bumped my insurance up to 500$ With Two “A” Reports
by DiannaDimambro on 2018/07/09 01:27
The way the app works, it runs on WiFi and monitors your driving. Giving you F-Aplus rating and then tells you where you are & what you need to improve. For 6 months I’ve barely driven + driving like a grandma because of this app. It absolutely PISSES me off that both me and my S.O on the report, shows we are BOTH GRADE A DRIVERS that’s reason our score is not a A is because we drive around more than 30miles. ( sorry my job is 17 miles away) it bumped my insurance up 400$ more than it normally is. So what exactly did I save progressive ?
Tracks for too long
by ShirenaGM on 2019/12/11 20:35
This app is just okay. It keeps tracking even after you’re done driving so if you grab your phone as soon as you get out of the car or are done parking, it’ll note “phone use” even though you never used your phone while driving. It also notes “phone use” when I use my SpotHero app to park for work. So thanks for giving me a lower score just for that.
Inaccurate
by C.Burnett on 2019/07/16 13:38
This app needs a lot of work.
Not sophisticated enough to know when fast acceleration and hard braking are appropriate
by 1204kat on 2018/11/15 10:38
I drive to work everyday on a highway that has stoplights every two miles. If your that person that is going 55 and the light turns yellow you have to brake hard to stop for the red. Also when turning onto the highway you need to accelerate quickly so as not to become a hindrance to those approaching. You can’t wait five days for no traffic to clear completely.
