Don’t get this app
by isthereantnicknamenottaken on 2019/08/20 19:20
I wanted to learn how to play guitar but they make you pay to use the app
So far so good.
by rdm 1967 on 2019/08/12 16:09
I like the way that the lessons are simple and short yet challenging for an absolute beginner. The only thing that I would like to see is a feedback monitor using my iPads microphone.
add other guitar genres
by miguelvillalobos on 2019/08/11 21:57
great app, has really helped me learn as a beginner but when it asked me what genre I would like to learn I didn’t see one I was interested in, my personal suggestion is you guys should add música mexicana to your genres it would open the door to so many more people looking to download the app
A great way to learn.
by Jlgreer13 on 2019/08/11 14:07
But, you cannot see enough of the music tab or print it out for reference.

Sometimes the information moves a little too fast but if you just stop when you need to and then move forward, it’s great!! A useful tool for sure

Just wanted free guitar lessons
by bacid det on 2019/08/03 21:34
You have to pay a subscription fee to get lessons on this app. I mean, the app is free, maybe you could have some lessons that you will eventually need money for but not for beginner lessons.
Angry
by hdbdhdjdbdbdb on 2019/07/28 23:01
The app itself is fine really good app but really? You have to pay to use it?! Like fender doesn’t make enough off of there guitars and now they want to make a lesson app and make people pay to use it? I refuse to pay for something that should be free. You want people to stop learning from YouTube fender? Well the. Make these lessons free!
😐

Why do you have to pay
STOP ASKING FOR MONEY

Just stop asking for money just to play two instruments! I’m only twelve and I love guitars and you bring me this?!
Great until now

I’ve been using this app now for about a week, I have learned a lot but now when I try and go into the app. Everything is just loading. At first I thought I could just shut down my phone and it would be fine, then I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same problem. Even updated the app and nothing has helped. I’d like to experience the app, but I physically can’t.
Their customer service is very rude and not helpful at all

Tried to get them to honor a coupon code that I tried to use but their system glitches and didn’t activate my fender play account. Their customer service said it wasn’t anything they could do and hung up.

This is the best app I’ve ever used! Great support and community!!
Be careful of the free trial!
by Nightfury333 on 2019/07/10 12:21
I signed up for the free trial to test it out against a couple other free services. After the trial was up I was charged the annual price of 90 dollars and was told there is no refund. I understand that ultimately this is my fault for not reading the small print closer, but this is still a dirty way of going about getting someone’s money. Again I know that I am just one customer but I definitely do not plan on purchasing any fender equipment and will certainly to my best to make sure friends and family don’t as well.
Best decision I’ve made
by Adamwestisawesome on 2019/07/08 04:34
Love the app, totally worth the cost of membership. The step by step guide has really helped my guitar playing and it’s a lot of fun to do. Finished the blues course in two weeks and repeat the lessons just for extra practice. Thanks Fender!

Really Works!!
by Mjlover1 on 2019/06/27 12:58
I just started using this app 2 days ago, and I have already learned so much. I love that is sets you on a path based on the type of music you want to play. The instructors are thorough and do an amazing job at teaching what you need to know. At this rate, I’ll be a pro. Can’t wait to learn more. I promise it’s worth the money! You won’t regret it.
Rewarding but flawed
by Guywhoneverhascash on 2019/06/27 09:45
I’ve been learning for about 2 weeks from the app and I’ve been getting quite annoyed by the videos themselves. They’re unresponsive at time when trying to rewind, pause or to even access the video controls. And that when the video controls are up, the block the chord progressions. It makes it worse that you can’t pause the video without blocking the progressions. I’ve also been having trouble with the app loading up, but none of the content appearing, and only for it to crash when tapping the “levels button.” Other than these specific annoyances the information is remarkably good. You learn with a mixture of slow exercises to then utilize them in songs. All while practicing various other things

Pretty fun for an old guy
by Classic Jazz on 2019/06/23 21:15
I didn’t know where to start when I decided to learn how to play the guitar. So I went to a pawn shop and bought a 50 dollar guitar and then found the Fender app. This thing is great. I can use it once a day or three times a day. It is ready whenever I have time and the lessons start just where I need them to start, right at the beginning. So having turned 61 years old I have found something that I am clearly horrible at that I plan to get better at. That’s pretty cool for an old guy and the Fender app is making it possible.
Why?!
by JenTheHufflePuff on 2019/06/22 13:39
I’m looking to learn the Uke but all the apps need a subscription! I don’t have the money and YouTube tutorials aren’t very helpful!
Great product for Learning Guitar, Bass, or Ukulele
by ProfessorJay on 2019/06/14 06:02
I’m an advanced player (20+ years) on several stringed instruments (Guitar, Violin, Mandolin, Bass, Ukulele, etc) I’ve gone through most of the guitar (acoustic & electric) styles and the lessons. I’ve done a few years of the bass and ukulele paths. All of the instructors and lessons are easy to follow; the songs for each lesson are great in each genre. This is a top notch music instruction on an app level. Bravo Fender! The glaring things missing from the app currently, but are probably in development Jazz Paths & Bluegrass paths. Blues and Country paths can hit some of those missing jazz and grass areas, so fingers crossed that either way those lessons are developed.
I hate being lied to.
by ughgawd on 2019/06/14 02:41
This is not a free app. Sure it’s free to download. So that’s free, the rest is paid subscription - Apple needs to get off their butt and make these apps advertise themselves as paid apps. Free means free! This is not free.

Fender - you can so much better than this
by timpanglao on 2019/06/05 13:50
Maybe i didnt spend enough time with it, or not patient enough to follow their structure, but i am not impressed. I am still somewhat of a beginner guitar player, so what would have been nice is to yes learn chords and the appropriate songs with those chords so i immediately feel i have progression. Example i chose different songs and each one in the video shows me the chord fingering, if i already learnt C,G, A, Em....i dont need a video on that, yes i can fast forward but it tediuos. What would be nice is to see the guitar tab/ chords and play along, however at best i might get 8bars if i goto full screen you cannot play the video, or rather i just want to play along with the track but you can’t do that. Would be nice if you could filter songs based on Chords and the tutorial goes through the progression or strummimg pattern. Some of the structure of the app is about a few riffs which is ok - but not that usefull. Sorry but not worth the subscription - i was hoping the fender app would complement my JustinGuitar not the case. I am not bashing Fender, i have a Strat and a Mustang Amp and their Tone app which is great- hope this feeback is useful
Great Starter Lessons! - AppleTV App, Please!
by djcozmik on 2019/06/02 16:28
These are well recorded lessons with a set of good instructors! There are a few awkward points where it seems like lessons might be a little out of sequence, or assumed skill level will jump abruptly during one lesson (looking at you, end of Electric Guitar Level 1), but the concept and the quality is great! (edit: some of the lesson sequencing has changed since this review, so this aspect of my review may be fixed now.) My two suggestions would be: 1) Make more use of on-screen graphics! The could be more on-screen tablature or notation for students to follow along with. 2) Make an AppleTV app for this! My wife and I are learning guitar together through these lessons, and right now we have to use Airplay to get it on our TV. This is always a little awkward and it would be much nice to have a native AppleTV app. Thanks!

Really helps
Not free
by Coolcreepper596 on 2019/06/02 15:24
Its not free and theres not a choice for it to be free with it even being a downgrade. The one time fee i think is $84 and the other is $15 a month which me being 13 its not fair because theres good reviews then it makes me pay money. I just want a good guitar teaching app thats free and if i want to learn certain songs i can pay for them for like .99 or something like that.
Advanced songs needed
by BeckSTR7 on 2019/06/02 06:24
Most songs claiming to be hard(with three stars) are not hard and seem to be easy versions of the original song or just strumming patterns. I would appreciate if you put more time towards technique that is hard to understand yourself. You do not need to spend 10 minutes explaining how to perform strumming. I understand that this app is targeted towards beginners, but if that’s going to continue I’d have to use other resources to find complex songs. Thank you for consideration.

I’ve always had a desire to play music. I live in a small town that doesn’t have much room for musicians. My town focuses on sports, and economy. I’ve never been able to find any teacher and i’ve never come close to learning any instrument, because most apps don’t work. Fender Play has taught me how to play Bass, and i’m going to begin a guitar path. I love this app.

Anytime an app asks for as much information as these guys did I always read the terms. Holy crap. By their agreement they have the right to look at ALL of your web activity among countless other issues. Ummmmm. No. I will just find a different app that isn’t trying to see what color underwear I buy online thank you.

2 days in and I’m blown away!
by Blandrew94 on 2019/05/13 06:23
I’ve tried a couple apps now and two days into the 2 week free trial, I already feel like I have a pretty good understanding of reading chords and tabs and my playing has gotten so much better in just two days. Can’t imagine what two weeks will do. I’m almost definitely going to pay for the full version past the trial!
Neck angle
by johnno1500 on 2019/05/12 22:52
Really enjoying Fender Play so far (about 50% into first part). I was having problems with getting my fingers into position for fretting as all the instructors seem to have the neck “flat”. However, I saw elsewhere that it’s more comfortable to angle the neck with the head higher up and easier to get the correct position for the hand. I found this to be a great tip and works for me much, much easier!!! As an absolute beginner, lots of fun so far with Fender Play. (I’m 60yo; never played any instrument before...)
Get unusable quickly
by Mark12345.1 on 2019/05/07 21:27
The cord charts are ok initially, but even a few songs in, it becomes impossible to use. They don’t fit on the screen so you have to stop playing, pause the video, scroll the chart, then resume, often multiple times per song. Totally frustrating. On the computer, there’s a full screen mode, but it still doesn’t show everything and you can’t see the video. If you try to print, it gets chopped off too. Don’t sign up for the annual plan. Go month to month so you can quit. I feel ripped off.

Free is great! Don’t Pay To Be Advertised To
by aj1c4 on 2019/04/29 12:05
The tuner is fine, but don’t pay for the extras. For one they are useless. Two, all the extras really do is try to get you to download the fender play app which is $10 a month. This is a shady practice and I am seriously disappointed in Fender. Further, the fender play app won’t tell you how much it costs utill you give them all your information first. This too is a psychological game that is dishonest and does not support a quality service. A quality service wouldn’t need these tricks.

Beginner help
by Lakenx91 on 2019/04/25 16:58
I like that the app breaks down the chords, but as a brand new beginner itd be nice to actually hear the song so I knew how to tie it in when I play against a recording off the song. Also, if the chords could scroll as they were playing so I can see what’s coming rather than just having to hear them.

I like this app a lot... I use it with some basic books. I appreciate the demos and the access to stuff I actually want to learn. I keep having trouble with getting the tab notation to load. Which makes me impatient with the videos. Can’t just look at the tab to refer if I missed something... the spinning symbol just keeps going.

Want to love but...
by J. Ryan Conklin on 2019/04/10 01:24
I want to love this but it’s not terribly usable as an app. Tabs disappear most of the time on the phone and are pretty much not navigable on iPad. What’s worse is you get locked out of the video tab when you hit pause. It’s really hard to follow along in the app experience. The lesson structure needs some kind of practice mode. You get lessons that teach you some basics but not actually how to practice them. Repeating lessons is slow and kind of frustrating considering the app limitations above.
Another Request
by DocSalchow on 2019/04/09 00:50
I’m enjoying the app; however, it is difficult to follow the tabs, even on my iPad Pro, because the video takes more than half the screen. Online, via the website, when you scroll up on the tags, the video minimizes and gives you a larger view of the tabs, which makes following along so much better. How is it that the online version has more features than the app? Also, it sure would be nice if the tabs were synchronized with the video, at least then I wouldn’t need to try scrolling as much. That being said - my fingers hurt, so I must be doing something right.
This app is a ripoff!!!!
by Shmamber93 on 2019/04/08 22:57

I'm a huge fan of this app! I wanted to learn how to play guitar for years so I could jam with my dad. I tried lessons at a local music school and didn't click w the instructor so I gave up. Then I found this app and it's a real game changer! Lessons are 3-5 minutes and there's a well thought out learning path. 2 months in, I'm playing songs and can't put my guitars down. So glad I found this app!

by Lrwho on 2019/03/31 21:43
I’m loving this app, I’m learning so much! One thing that’s frustrating is that I can’t see the tabs as I’m playing along. For example, in level 2, Ode to Joy, he’s telling me which notes to play and the tabs are available, but I can’t swipe them along as I’m playing to see the next bar so they’re kind of pointless. I have a tablet that I’ve been writing them down in so I can practice but it would be so great if the tabs would be visible as they’re being taught.

Why do I have to pay to learn?
by jocelyn cordova on 2019/03/26 04:03
Weeks ago I had finally got the guitar that I had always wanted. So when I got the guitar I downloaded this app to learn. This app had great reviews and was the so called “the best guitar app” so I went on the app excited to learn. I sadly found out that I have to pay a subscription in order to use this app. I also I downloaded a different guitar tuner app and that other app was way better to use. Why does every single app has to have a subscription or a premium to get the “best experience”. Now I am so unmotivated to even learn guitar and now I have my guitar laying somewhere in the corner of my room. I can’t even learn not even a single chord. And my guitar isn’t even tuned right. I would rate it a 0/5 would NOT recommend.

App Lacking
by JK Novo on 2019/03/18 15:23
As a beginner to playing the guitar, unfortunately I didn’t know what would work best while trying to learn. I can say there are positives toFender Play, but my biggest complaint is trying to learn the chord progressions, but the tabs don’t show. Also the songs don’t scroll while trying to play which is extremely confusing and frustrating!! I can’t believe how fast the instructors play and expect you to just follow their verbal cues. I really which I hadn’t signed up for the full year as it’s been 1 month and I’m so frustrated.
Great Way To Restart
by ServeHim on 2019/03/15 02:20
I have been playing on and off for 46 years. When I began there were almost no helps in learning other than private lessons or getting friends who could play to teach you. I enjoyed moderate success for many years playing rhythm and singing. I laid it down for the most part for several years. I am beginning again and going back to lesson one. I want to learn notes and lead. I enjoy the bite size lessons from Fender Play.
Fun and efficient!
by Al Muzaurieta on 2019/03/13 15:52
I have always wanted to learn the guitar but never really knew where to begin. FenderPlay was the perfect solution. The short lesson format and amazing teachers they have on the site keep you motivated to learn. You can really feel the progress as you go through the lessons, plus the flexibility means it’s all tailored to your schedule. I started on February 1 and by Valentine’s Day could sing a song for my girlfriend! I didn’t think that was possible! Highly recommend!
Horrible customer service/support
by Ranran1312 on 2019/03/11 17:03
During the free trail everything was good. After the free trail I paid for an annual subscription then the app required you to change your password. Then the issues began. It would never allow me to change my password then said I wasn’t a customer. I called customer support several times and nobody would call back. A month went by and I called again and all they would say is that they would submit another ticket to look into it. Horrible customer service and would recommend paying for annual subscription because they won’t help you after you pay
Better than YouTube

Watched many different videos on YouTube trying to learn Balls to the Wall by Accept, the lesson here on Fender Play was the best yet at getting me closer to “perfection” at this song.
Can play without subscribing
by chitkenbird1205 on 2019/03/06 01:41
When I was signing up, it doesn’t have an option of no subscription so then you have to pay money when you can just use ads and no one likes ads but at least you don’t have to pay monthly for guitar lessons when there is another app that allows you to have no subscription.

I tried learning guitar when I was 19yrs. My electric guitar got stolen and I never got back into it. I picked up an Acoustic Guitar Jan. 2018....I practiced hard for a year and then bought a fender bullet squier. I saw the app downloaded it and have not looked back! Electric guitar has awesome sound and easier to play on hands. Plus the app lets you see your progression and helps understand music styles! Thanks Fender I am hooked on your guitar/music drug!
Amazing app

I love it! I bought an electric guitar 2 days ago and I’ve been trying to play a guitar since I was 6 Y/O, I went to 2 different schools but it was too hard or too difficult for me therefore I never learned but with this up in matter of few minutes I learned more than ever! TKU U!

Poor Customer Service.
by Chrismills79 on 2019/02/23 20:08
My father - who is retired on a fixed income - purchased 3 guitars at a total cost of $1700. Each came with a free month of Fender Play. Their response was one month free only. We are talking about $20. The customer service was awful and basically said oh well. Won’t use this product ever again.
Pretty legit

Just started learning guitar a few days ago. I’ve been practicing after work for about 2-3 hours each night. For the first couple days I used YouTube, which don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of great tutorials on YouTube. But what’s cool about this learning platform is there is no guess work involved. You chose whatever instrument you’re learning on and even what style you’re interested in. (I personally selected the blues) but it takes you from the ground up. It’s introduced me to simple but effective drills I can practice to gain more dexterity and strength in my hands, the basics of strumming and I am now learning chords. A lot easier to learn on in my opinion and quicker also. Would recommend this to anyone who is just picking up a guitar 100% worth every penny.

From drums to bass in a few easy (and informative) lessons 👍
by the lifetime student on 2019/01/15 22:07
Fist and fore most, I’m a drummer, but after missing out on a few paying gigs because I couldn’t play any other instruments... I picked up the the bass. I figure I would stay with the rhythm section, plus for ever 10 guitar players there’s maybe 1-2 bassist. But I digress ...this fender online class is really informative with easy to follow instructions and instructors that seem to really enjoy the instrument. So for anyone how’s looking for an online instruction class for the beginner or even those who’ve needed to add a little something to their playing, check out this class.

This app is great, it’s enjoyable and I love it. But It’s based only on video approach as tutorial lessons. The one thing that will take this app to the next level is a game approach going side by side with the video lessons. Let’s but it in another way, this app is build only of series of video lessons, which gives you the knowledge but doesn’t train you to apply any of it. We need a practice mode that comes after each lesson which is build just like a video game that gives you specific objects that you have to meet in order to accomplish the training session. Objects that you should meet according to a specific requirements by playing your actual guitar while the app is listening and gives you feedback. It will be more efficient and so much more fun. I sincerely urge you to consider this idea. I gave 4 stars to this app, I’m saving to 5th one to the next update, if you actually add game training to it, hopefully. By the way, the teachers are very very nice and I love them all, please give them my best regards. thanks a lot.
Good at the start but progresses WAY too fast!
by Real gamer here on 2019/02/13 23:47
I liked this from the start but I am in the second level and the instructors do an absolutely terrible job at informing the viewer of what is coming up next in a chord progression. The tab doesn’t show up so I can’t follow along. It also doesn’t scroll so I can’t play along event Shawn the tab does show up. I can’t even pause to practice because the video control blocks the list of chords. So many things add up to a terrible experience. I wish there was a way that I could play along more easily. The instructors need to pause between chord progressions. You can’t assume everyone can just jump right in and be perfect at it. I will still use this app but it’s really not the experience I wanted. I think o might go back to You Tube. I think I learned at a more steady pace. Frustration. I have thrown my pick down more than once because of how poorly these “instructors” actually instruct. I watched 4 videos in a row on what the strings were called but when it comes to chord progressions they fly right through it. Sad.
Good but seems like better options out there
by Osiris42 on 2019/02/18 17:49
I’m a beginner, and while I like fender play, it’s missing a couple things that would make it much better. A simple thing is that the tabs don’t scroll along with this lesson, or auto scroll when you practice on your own. Consequently, you can’t see the sheet music while you’re playing along. You can only see one line at a time. It’s a simple thing but has really hampered my progress. Also I don’t know why they don’t include the lyrics along with the tab, they even say how you should sing along with the song, but don’t make that available to you. I signed up for the full year, and now I regret it because I think I’d rather try something like yousician that gives you feedback as well as has these other features.
That’s pretty cool for an old guy and the Fender app is making it possible.

by DocSalchow on 2019/04/09 00:50
I’m enjoying the app; however, it is difficult to follow the tabs, even on my iPad Pro, because the video takes more than half the screen.
Needs more music.
by sparten 459 on 2018/07/17 23:26
For what it is; it’s a great app to learn from, but what I hate is the lack of varied music genres: pop, rock, blues, and country are wide terms for music, and their over all choice of songs is lacking. Especially in the rock department, as far as I could find because of a lack of an actual search option: I couldn’t find any Metallica, FFDP, and only a few AC/DC if I remember correctly. I guess I’m just mad that Fender bought, then shut down Riff Station. I hadn’t found any other app that allowed you to learn the very basics of any song from my obscure favorite of Der Erste Schritt with it’s beautiful acoustic to literally anything Linkin Park. I’d gladly pay the subscription if they had an eighth of the songs.
Beginner and learning from Fender!
by Blonde Samantha on 2018/07/26 03:06
I just purchased my guitar today. I brought the guitar home, and downloaded the Fender Play App. The app starts at the very beginning. For a beginner like myself, this is great! The instructors patiently take you through setting up your equipment. You learn the string names. The instructors add in a simple pneumonic device to help you remember the strings. (Easter Bunny gets dizzy at Easter) How easy is that?! I am just getting started tonight, but I can already tell that this is going to be a learning method that I can stick with. Samantha F. Seattle
Making it easier to follow along
by Sonnydoug on 2018/06/23 18:30
I recently bought my 1st guitar a squire strat fender, I love almost everything about this app. Only thing is when the instructor is telling playing music with us we have to listen to them tell us to switch vs reading the chords. It’s extremely hard playing my guitar and the instructor playing his and trying to listen to his voice for the change. We should be able to read them music as we are playing not just hear the instructor. Maybe adding the chords to the bottom on the video so it is much easier keeping up and following along.

Loving fender play
by Birdwonder on 2018/12/29 00:23
I am loving the simplicity and ease of the fender play lessons. I have started learning to play guitar several times in my life and never really stuck with it and this time around I am showing up every single day and fender play is a key component in this. I am practicing and loving the lessons. They are short and sweet, but already I can feel a big difference in my reach and finger stretching. This is a great app for a beginner like me. I definitely recommend it!
My Best Friends Girl
by Avengers93 on 2018/12/16 01:13
In no part of the video lesson for The Cars - My Best Friends Girl does the instructor ever play the song to hear what it should sound like. I know the song of course and I could obviously play the song on my phone. But in the video they should give an example of what the song sounds like the way the instructor is teaching it. Very frustrating. An example of what I’m talking about is Marty’s Music on iTunes. Everyone of his videos starts with him playing the song through once so you have it in your head, then he begins the lesson. It’s incredibly effective. Please consider. Thanks! Great app otherwise, but to me it’s a deal breaker
Sign Up Problems
by Man_of_Dreams on 2018/12/15 18:49
I was shopping around to see which online app to learn guitar was convenient, and ended up going with this one because it gives the option for monthly payments, other competitors like yousician wanted a yearly subscription in advance. Unfortunately, when I went through the sign up process, it said I was subscribed, but could not log in, even though I know i was putting the correct password. I kept getting the error message: Nulls is not an object (evaluating s.status). I wanted to contact customer service but saw that they are only available mon-fri. It forces you to send an email and wait for them to reply back on monday...At that point i just cancelled it...

Hard to follow
by Lrwho on 2019/03/31 21:43
I’m loving this app, I’m learning so much!
App Lacking
by JK Novo on 2019/03/18 15:23
As a beginner to playing the guitar, unfortunately I didn’t know what would work best while trying to learn.
Neck angle
by johnno1500 on 2019/05/12 22:52
Really enjoying Fender Play so far (about 50% into first part).

Fender Play makes learning fun. I can practice at my own pace and also recap where I left off on the previous lesson without worrying about session time limits. The songs are pretty cool and the instructional videos are very informative. I also like the Fender Play community that is available through social media. This let’s students interact with each other by watching uploaded videos of progression.

I’ve tried a couple apps now and two days into the 2 week free trial, I already feel like I have a pretty good understanding of reading chords and tabs and my playing has gotten so much better in just two days. Repeated episodes
by iScottyjD on 2018/08/15 21:27
Im a beginner when comes to guitar, just started playing about a week or 2 ago and so far I find the app very useful and easy to understand; however there is one little thing that is confusing to me. I feel like a good amount of the episodes are repeated and they’re just using a different person, im not to sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be or if there’s a glitch or something. But, exclude that and you have a good app overall.
Thanks!
Great idea, poorly executed
by Mahoney8769 on 2019/01/03 15:48
I purchases this app for ukulele. I had high hopes for this app, and enjoyed some of the information provided in the first several lessons. But then when it became time to start learning actual songs, I was dismayed to find that it was very difficult, nearly impossible, to see the chords as you are playing along. There is also no way to print the songs out and follow along as your practice. This was a deal breaker for me. I’ve purchased a couple of songbooks for beginners that are more helpful, and also a kindle book called Ukulele Aerobics that has daily exercises which I completely love.
I’m at a loss for words.

Zero use x 3 months
by Gstair on 2018/07/21 09:39
I am always on top of deleting unused subscriptions/apps before the free trial is up. I missed this app unsubscribe option by a few days while I was out of the USA. Within 72 hours of my return I executed the unsubscribe procedures. Fast forward 30 days and I was just notified of a charge for another new month. So I unsubscribed again. This time I looked for a way to be refunded for this, uninstalled and unused app. No refunds. I’m just talking this month and not the last month. I can literally say “thanks for nothing” and “thanks for the lack of refund options”.
No direction

I am a complete newbie and had no idea where to start or what direction to go. Fender play has made it easy to follow a path to learn skills and even mixes in riffs and songs to show exactly why you are learning the skills. I was making no progress just noise until I started fender play! Highly recommend it! Then factor in the community and it’s a no brained!
Subscription doesn’t work
by Bigmuffins0405 on 2018/05/12 13:54
There’s nothing more frustrating than bad software. This app looks great and I really wanted to install it on my daughter’s iPad. Too bad the app writers failed to include a “Restore Purchases” function in the sign up process. Because of a minor glitch in the family account approval process, Apple shows my daughter as subscribed but this app refuses to acknowledge the subscription. Since the app also blocks you from actually trying the software unless you’ve signed up, I can’t provide a review of the actually lesson plans. Poor coding = deleted app and frustrated possible subscriber.
A shame
by Taltos50 on 2019/01/11 02:38
It’s lessons are very good. The pace is slow and repetitive which is perfect for a beginner. But they ruined a great program by only leaving room for a few bars of sheet music on a page. So after playing a line you have to stop playing and scroll up to the next line. This interruption is frustrating because you can’t play along uninterrupted with the teacher (as you are instructed). If not for the clunky music interface, it would be an excellent teaching tool.
Just some videos
by L0KEMAN on 2018/08/09 16:40
Nothing more than videos. Does not do what other apps can. It does not listen and tell you in real time if your finger needs to move up a fret or if your C string is out of tune or if your missing a string or are muting a string and need to adjust your index finger. It doesn’t automatically adjust speed or chords based on how it hears you playing. This is just some videos and does like 1/100th of every other app out there that costs less. Half of the electric guitar videos are just acoustic videos and most work, but really break the vibe.
Really Works!!

Nice app but needs more and better content
by Oabrown on 2018/10/07 18:32
I like the bite-size lessons and staring to play simple melodies pretty quickly, but there is a huge lack of content missing. After you learn a few chords, it takes a big jump in difficulty and doesn’t even tell the user they should not be able to play the next exercises without months of practice changing chords. There are better lessons for free and much, much better lessons for a subscription.
Good job, needs a little work…
by Kiltedson on 2018/11/01 21:13
I am really enjoying this out, I bought a years subscription, because I have made fast progress. I am a blind person, I would hope that the app developers would make the entire app optimize for voiceover on the iPhone, or iPad. The instructors are wonderful, they are very descriptive, which allows me to learn the techniques that they are teaching. Keep up the good work.
This app is crap
by Skysky24 on 2018/07/09 14:45
I love Fender guitars, but this app is garbage. I signed up through the iTunes Store, which is step 2 of the three step process. It hangs on that step and won’t allow me to proceed to the content. I touch subscribe on the screen and it tells me I’m already subscribed. Nothing is intuitive on here, no menu providing any sort of navigation to the content, nothing in the store, or my e-mail telling me to complete my subscription...I bought this to help my kid learn to play...I hope if it does end up working that their lessons are better than their crappy app.
So glad I tried this app.

I have been wanting to learn to play the electric guitar. Blues to be specific and this app has been the most helpful. It gives me practice help in a structured path. I was learning a lot by the end of the week. I’m still improving and I always come here to take my play to the next level.
Song oriented and lack theory
by cicolus on 2018/12/01 02:53
This app is great for someone who just want to play the songs they like. But for someone like me who’s serious about learning the inner workings of music and want to learn about good solo/improv techniques, you’d be better off learning from other resources (book, teacher) as this app really couldn’t substitute those. But nonetheless, a great place to give people a start on playing guitar.
Needs more than videos
by OS131516 on 2019/01/03 20:14
The app is decent for learning, but they really only have videos. They are high quality videos, but still just videos. It doesn’t use the microphone to make sure you are playing it correctly, and doesn’t actually guide you through playing the sheets. If you are interested in learning, I would recommend Yousician over Fender; I even prefer the free Version of Yousician more than Fender.
Teaches parts of real songs
by Judosanch on 2018/02/17 18:44
I was using a different app (rhymes with musician) to learn guitar for over a year which is still great for learning chords and scales but doesn’t have music that I’m interested in. Fender Play uses real songs in different genres. I feel like I have reached a new level after 1.5 months with these lessons.
Great
by yajeuska on 2018/09/28 16:17
The courses are structured. The tabs at the bottom of the video are also helpful in that it gives u reference chords dor was he lesson. I used to pay 20/ month for 1 class/ week but the instructor was all over the place.. for 9$/month and practice one can begin to see progress in no time.
Great until now
by I Mythic on 2019/07/20 04:26
I’ve been using this app now for about a week, I have learned a lot but now when I try and go into the app. Everything is just loading. At first I thought I could just shut down my phone and it would be fine, then I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same problem. Even updated the app and nothing has helped. I’d like to experience the app, but I physically can’t.
Easy to pick up or come back to
by managua101 on 2018/04/19 00:46
I love the pace of these lessons. I'm a complete beginner with only a little time each week to play. I learn something every time, and I feel a sense of accomplishment after every lesson. If I have to skip a week or two, it's easy to pick up where I left off.

Don’t get this app

So far so good.
by rdm 1967 on 2019/08/12 16:09
I like the way that the lessons are simple and short yet challenging for an absolute beginner. The only thing that I would like to see is a feedback monitor using my iPads microphone.
add other guitar genres
by miguelvillalobos on 2019/08/11 21:57
great app, has really helped me learn as a beginner but when it asked me what genre I would like to learn I didn’t see one I was interested in, my personal suggestion is you guys should add música mexicana to your genres it would open the door to so many more people looking to download the app
A great way to learn.
by Jlgreer13 on 2019/08/11 14:07
But, you cannot see enough of the music tab or print it out for reference.

by bacid det on 2019/08/03 21:34
You have to pay a subscription fee to get lessons on this app.
Well the. Make these lessons free!

by Adamwestisawesome on 2019/07/08 04:34
Love the app, totally worth the cost of membership.

This app is a ripoff!!!!
by Shmamber93 on 2019/04/08 22:57
Do not get this app! I canceled this app during the free trial, and they still charged me!!! I have emailed them twice with no response. Also the app itself was not even that great, because you can find everything on it on YouTube! Please do not fall for this trickery!

This is a good app for guitar they just need more songs. There aren’t very many songs available. Also when I try to search anything, the typing is really slow and glitchy. it cuts out some of the letters.

Horrible customer service and would recommend paying for annual subscription because they won’t help you after you pay

by chitkenbird1205 on 2019/03/06 01:41
When I was signing up, it doesn’t have an option of no subscription so then you have to pay money when you can just use ads and no one likes ads but at least you don’t have to pay monthly for guitar lessons when there is another app that allows you to have no subscription.

My father - who is retired on a fixed income - purchased 3 guitars at a total cost of $1700. Each came with a free month of Fender Play. Their response was one month free only. We are talking about $20. The customer service was awful and basically said oh well. Won’t use this product ever again.

Sad.
I signed up for the full year, and now I regret it because I think I’d rather try something like yousician that gives you feedback as well as has these other features.

by Classic Jazz on 2019/06/23 21:15
I didn’t know where to start when I decided to learn how to play the guitar. That’s pretty cool for an old guy and the Fender app is making it possible.

by DocSalchow on 2019/04/09 00:50
I’m enjoying the app; however, it is difficult to follow the tabs, even on my iPad Pro, because the video takes more than half the screen.

I have started learning to play guitar several times in my life and never really stuck with it and this time around I am showing up every single day and fender play is a key component in this.

Neck angle
by johnno1500 on 2019/05/12 22:52
Really enjoying Fender Play so far (about 50% into first part).

I feel like a good amount of the episodes are repeated and they’re just using a different person, im not to sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be or if there’s a glitch or something. But, exclude that and you have a good app overall.
Thanks!

by Mark12345.1 on 2019/05/07 21:27
The cord charts are ok initially, but even a few songs in, it becomes impossible to use.

I’ve never been able to find any teacher and i’ve never come close to learning any instrument, because most apps don’t work.

Fender play has made it easy to follow a path to learn skills and even mixes in riffs and songs to show exactly why you are learning the skills. I was making no progress just noise until I started fender play! Highly recommend it! Then factor in the community and it’s a no brained!
Really Works!!
by Mjlover1 on 2019/06/27 12:58
I just started using this app 2 days ago, and I have already learned so much. I love that is sets you on a path based on the type of music you want to play. The instructors are thorough and do an amazing job at teaching what you need to know. At this rate, I’ll be a pro. Can’t wait to learn more. I promise it’s worth the money! You won’t regret it.
