Sync books across your iPhone Mac and iPad Listen while driving, walking, cooking, eating, working out, etc. Story I’ve been dyslexic my whole life. Reading that sentence takes me the same amount of time and brain energy as most people take when solving a 4 digit long division math equation in their head. I would pretend to read in elementary school. Through hard work (and convincing a lot of teachers to give me exceptions) I got accepted to Brown University. One problem...I couldn’t read my summer reading book - there was no audiobook for this book. I had no other choice. I hacked an old text to speech computer system to read the remaining portion of the book over night into my iPhone and then listen to it on the plane. Today, hundreds of thousands of people have been able to function in school and society because of Speechify. Remember that above all else your mission is to be who you needed most when you were growing up. Much love <3, Cliff Weitzman, Simeon Kostadinov and the rest of the Speechify Team Reviews "It's been five minutes, but I think I love you” -Susan "I have tears in my eyes” - Shari. "I am literally going to start crying at how profoundly amazing and revolutionary this is for me" -Chandler "It's like a superpower. My issue with reading normally is that I get distracted mid sentence… Speechify is a voice that never loses focus like my mind's voice does." - Sam “I suffer from A.D.D. and between this app and Audiobooks I have never felt more empowered... please know you made a real difference in my life" - Bill "Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! My 8 year old is in the process of being officially diagnosed with dyslexia. We have struggled with reading and homework since kindergarten. This is a life changing resource for us!!! I'm hoping to have it worked into his IEP..." - Crissy. "Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am literally crying. My nine year old daughter has Dyslexia and it has been very frustrating to find things that will help her. I work full time and in nursing school full time with an hour drive to everything I have to do. I have my notes that I put in here and listen to them in those car rides. No wasted time here.
This app may have just saved my education.

I’m a 24 year old student with a recent and rather intense anxiety diagnosis. A common yet seldom talked about side effect of a major anxiety disorder is an inability to focus. I find my mind wandering to one of the other 1000 things it’s worried about, and I can sit for hours, entire days in front of a textbook, absorbing nothing. It’s the 3rd week of school now and I just found Speechify on a random, desperate search for helpful tools as my reading load piled up behind me, becoming a boogeyman in my closet. I’ve only used it for one article so far, but already I can remember more from that article than I ever could before reading things myself, and above all things, what would’ve been 2 hours of unfocused procrastination before 2 hours of choppy, interrupted reading turned into 30 minutes, while waiting in the cafeteria for my dinner. I’m actually a little teary eyed writing this. I thought there was something so wrong with me, I was starting to think I should cut my education short at an AA and walk away, before I flunked out. But now there’s this. And I couldn’t be more grateful for it.
Love Speechify

Simply Amazing. However,
by Asher_Steelix on 2019/09/16 04:28
I’m not dyslexic, but struggle to read. I just entered college and the reading assignments have absolutely overwhelmed me. I’ve attempted to look for my textbooks on audible as I am an auditory learner, but unfortunately, they aren’t all there. This app has greatly helped me to comprehend what I’m actually reading and prevents me from having to reread a page constantly. However, something that has disappointed me greatly is the word cap. Why would there be a need for a word cap in premium? I don’t understand why this has to be. If you need more money, that’s fine, charge more but please remove the cap! I don’t want to undercut the value of this app, it’s simply amazing, it has greatly helped me. I just wish the cap would be removed.
This is awesome

Language changes
by Rjuready on 2019/09/14 17:30
The app is better than others I’ve tried. The voice changes back and forth between languages at times. Causing it to skip entire paragraphs.
Okay but i wish there was a deeper tone.
by Lea-AnnLea-Ann/// on 2019/09/13 15:35
The app and reading work fine but there should be two non-premium options for the voice One lower pitch than What is available

As a full time college student I have a lot of reading to do. I also am a taxi driver for my 3 kids lol so I’m in the car lots which eats up my reading time. I got this app a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been SO impressed with how well it does! I only wish it had a word find option. Having the option to locate a specific word would be extremely helpful.
So happy

Voice and context
by kakakakakakakaakjaajjakakaja on 2019/09/12 02:03
You could probably use more realistic voices that actually pronounce the words correctly. Plus, there should be an option where you can select (somehow) what you want to be read. It could be by marking it with circles, check marks, “highlighter”- things like that.

by dildhejwka on 2019/09/11 18:40
Cliff! You are amazing and this is a fantastic app! Great design! I laughed at the story about circle time reading but I would , not kidding , do the same thing! And popcorn reading in high school, I couldn’t even add up the hours I’ve spent in school bathrooms. I too learned that have add and dyslexia at about 12 years old? I’m 33 now, so NO ONE knew what it was or anything about it, no no it was when the thought you “reverse your letters “ or something. Anyway, it’s so applied your self so well in school!! I did the opposite and honed other skills , like getting people to write my papers for me while planned extra curricular high school “activity's” , no College but did go one to building and selling 2 businesses buy the age of 31 and now I AM going to get my degree! A fantastic art university, so I am using this for my text books. Thank you for making this!! Good luck with you book, undoubtedly it will be a success! If I can help in anyway please let me know!! This app made my life better!
by kat00bruno on 2019/09/11 18:02
I am dyslexic and have ADD, I have looked all over the web trying to find a text to speech application with no luck, until this app. The creators story was extremely relatable, I had nearly the exact same thing happened to me all throughout school. Sadly, I wasn’t diagnosed until my Junior year of high school, which made getting the help I needed really challenging. I had to fight to get into any class I wanted to and reading the books I was given was always hard and I often didn’t read them because it was so challenging. I am so grateful someone that went through the same thing that I did, made an app that allows me to read my college books without frustration. Would highly recommend this app to anyone who struggles with reading!
Happy

Retention
by CeeLanae on 2019/09/11 01:30
I’ve only used the app for one chapter and only one of the pages had a few errors. When reading a book in my head, I tend to have to back track quite often because I read while not really taking it in. With the text to speech, I follow along with my finger and take in the information as I listen. Makes reading a lot easier and quicker. So glad I found this app.
I use this for college textbooks 🖤
by marta206 on 2019/09/10 23:11
If you’re like me you hate reading college textbooks. I was looking for a way to get through 90 pages of a textbook without falling asleep. I found this app and I’m able to take a picture of my textbook and it will read it aloud for me. I have a really hard time concentrating. I follow along in my book and listen to Speechify read it for me. I sometimes take pictures of the entire chapter and listen to it in the car on my way to school or work. I’m able to listen to chapters in between classes on my headphones it makes it so much easier for me I wish I had found this out Years ago. I share with everybody how great it is

I luv Speechify 💕
by SunshineyDaz on 2019/09/10 17:08
I luv Speechify. After trial and error this app is by far the best. All the “wasted time” apps all wrapped into one. Not complicated. Offers a large variety of playback voices to choose from. A controller to manually increase the speed or rate of the playback voice.* I could upload ANY type of computer literature to Speechify and within seconds read back to me/ Saved. What was really cool - the app enables you to take photos of a physical book and create a book for the speechify app to be played back to me in an auditory form. 🌞 Headphones. Speechify. Outside. Walk. Enjoy. Educated. #Healthy form of multitasking. Thank you for the experience. Had to delete app. I refuse to afford a subscription from EVERY app that I use. Bummer😂 ( iPhone vs Android)
Life Changing!
by CCrewNE on 2019/09/10 16:06
So I was diagnosed with dyslexia as a child, I have found ways of coping but it has held me back!! Not completely but sometimes my anxiety surrounding it keeps me from moving forward at the pace I’d like. This school year my high ability learner (Daughter) really wanted to hybrid homeschool!? I dove in but was feeling the pressure with all the reading that I had to do in order to help her!!! I AM NO LONGER ANXIOUS!!! Oh my gosh people this app is amazing. My preferred way to read it to follow along while listening. This is perfect for that! A huge Thank you to the developers of this app. 😁☺️🥰🤩🤓 I GOT THIS!
Reading through text books
by chemnat on 2019/09/09 17:52
Love this app! I am a slow reader, and as most of my homework is reading through chapter and material, I am so happy that this app can read to me so I can get through the material quicker.

I have a lot of apps on my phone. This is by far one of the most useful apps ever. I have to read a ton of books and content for my PhD and sometimes it's hard to get my mind into reading mode. This app has made me excited about reading again. It keeps me focused and engaged in each text.
Life saving app for PhD students
by PhD-mom on 2019/09/08 18:55
I am a PhD student, an administrator at an Higher Education Institution and a mom of two boy ages 6 and 7, needless to say there aren’t enough hours in a day for me to clear off things on my constantly overflowing todo list. This app literally saved me, now I can listen to my readings while I drive, clean the house, fold the laundry and cook! I stop here and there to take notes and keep detailed annotated bibliographies of what I have read to use in future papers and research projects. But without this app either my family or my studies would suffer. I also love all the improvements they’ve made making it easier to upload readings etc. I shared this app with everyone in my PhD cohort and will continue to share it with students and colleagues.

But it sounds robotic
I’ve been looking for this app for ages! But there’s one thing missing...
by Shmalyssa on 2019/09/07 00:12
A couple years back, I realized I could study more efficiently by using text-speech software to listen to my reading material. It revolutionized the way I did school work, but I often had to jump through hoops if the text wasn’t already in a format that my computer could read, like PDFs or hard copies. I would have to take my textbooks to the library, make a copy of each page using their OCR machine, then send it to my email to convert into text via google docs. Even then, the resulting text was often riddled with errors, often to the point where it was incomprehensible. So finding this app, a free OCR software that streamlines the process and produces extremely high quality text, was an enormous relief! My one suggestion would be allowing the option to play music in the background. I’m the kind of ADHD where I like to have a lot of stimuli going on in the background to keep me engaged. If I could listen to both my assignment and a chill movie soundtrack at the same time, this app would be absolute perfection.
Worthless without a subscription
by fartnuggetts on 2019/09/06 15:04
Get a onetime purchase option and i will buy. Also, worthless subscription since you have to be online to use the premium voice anyways. Pay a fortune and get stuck with robots when out of service? No thanks.

by syndeny shaw on 2019/09/03 03:21
Once the page is scanned it starts reading in some kind of pig Latin and you can’t make out what’s being said.
Great app- a few quirks to work out.
by Liz M2 on 2019/09/02 01:41
I would have given this a five, but i ah w had to spend an enormous amount of time editing the pdf files before uploading to the app because it reads everything on the page. Anything in the header or footer Ana even things in the margins. However, this is a small price to pay for the convenience of being able to listen to a book while I do household chores, exercise and travel. This has saved me hours of sitting in one place reading! I rarely have time to sit down, much less read a book or article for Graduate school. Thanks!

This is really helpful
by meed help on 2019/08/29 06:06
This is really helpful to me because I am understand better when someone else it reading to me it’s like a story being told. I use this to read my textbook especially because there are a lot of chapters to read and when I read it by my self I get lost half way it’s like m reading it but nothing is really sticking. When I hear someone else read it to me I understand the context better and I remember to highlight stuff.

Great but....
by Analytical 1 on 2019/08/26 06:16
The app is great, even for those of low vision. I took a star off because the primary users are likely people who are already challenged and financially strapped so the app should be free or have a one time small fee, not an ongoing subscription. Also, I keep having a problem with glare from the pages of the books I've tried scanning. Maybe there's a filter feature you can add to reduce the glare so the words are clear before snapping a picture of the page. Lastly, sometimes the words scan wrong, we really need a way to edit the words within the scan so that sentences are spoken clearly. Thanks for a near perfect app!!!

But weird update message.
Not for the visually impaired.
by BasenjiBuddy on 2019/08/25 19:17
I’m not sure why this app is listed under “accessibility”, as it is both visually different to use and has poor VoiceOver support. I’m always on the lookout for a good scanner/OCR app to help me deal with documents. However, I could not get past the introductory screens. The text is amazingly hard to read, and when I turned on voiceover it was not correctly supported. As I said, I am not sure why this was included in a list of accessibility apps.

Disappointing, given its high potential
by AlbuquerqueFan on 2019/08/17 04:34
It won't remember the voice preference, and changes mid-document. Won't accept purchases for premium voices due to a separate bug as well. The only voice reliably available is the most robotic one.

As a law student, more and more of my time is spent reading and rereading articles, treatises and cases. Unfortunately, my workload has left me with precious little time to do things like wash the dishes or fold laundry. Speechify helps me make time to do these non-demanding, zen-like tasks while keeping up with my reading. I highly recommend Speechify to anyone who feels overburdened by the the demands of reading tons and tons of text-only articles.

Absolutely no regrets!

I’ve used another text to speech app and it stopped me in the middle of my book and said I had to wait and hour before continuing, so I tried this app and the difference in the quality of the speech was so high that I uninstalled the other app and would have thrown it in the trash if I could. I have absolutely no regrets and this is by far the best text to speech app. 5 stars!
great for students

Beyond Great! It’s Amazing with a team that is Rising
by tim_whiteman on 2019/08/08 16:09
This is a terrific app! It was well thought out and has a team behind it driving to get results for best user experience. I’ve had an opportunity to systematically dissect things in a very quick way that I normally would have to wait until I could sit down on un-interrupted. With this app in its functionality, I can listen to virtually any article, PDFs, etc. and it’s quick and it’s easy! Five stars.
Just ok...nothing great

Stop asking for a review.. I think this app is JUST ok... Nothing great, nothing terrific... more importantly I will probably delete it later today
Awesome

My wife is blind and this app reopens the world of the printed word. I just wonder if this could be connected to “eyesight glasses” ie Google glass. Gill Netter.
Best app for listening audio books🤩
by Md. Siam on 2019/08/05 11:18
Hi, Thanx to the developer for this awesome app. Also thanx for making it free for everyone. I want to request you to include Bangla translator. So, that my mom can use this app to listen to foreign books. She can't read English. Please think about my request. Regards Md. Siam
Been looking for an app like this for a long time!

Yes! Finally! An easy to use, intuitive Text-to-Speech app! I’m Dyslexic so reading is really hard work and often times overwhelming so I just don’t do it. But I love learning and want to be able to learn stuff that feels locked away in text. Podcasts & Audio Books are great but there is so much content that doesn’t have an audio version. This tool is such a huge blessing that is unlocking so many books & articles that I had access too but couldn’t actually engage with. Thank you for building this app! Keep up the great work!
I'm dyslexic and have tried most every app

Forever changed how I consume news
by Mich70Robertson on 2019/07/30 02:35
I love learning new things but with all the news sources, who has time to read past the headline. With Speechify you can finally make the time. Full magazine issues, TLDR long form articles. Riveting essays. You can consume it all.

Dishonest. They spam you for money.
by Concerned 4212 on 2019/07/23 00:39
Of course, nothing is free, but as we know some apps ask you for payment immediately or as had happen to me once, send in a modded version that changes the fee structure. This app says you can use it for free with non-HD voices then after four uses it forces me on one default voice. The baddest part about this is the app developers expect people to be either too lazy to complain or easily ignored. In addition, I would not pay for this app because it crashes a lot on my Iphone. This tells me the developers don't care about user experience and demand their money upfront.

Life save!!!
by Smoochaletta on 2018/10/26 20:44
Okay, so I went ahead and gave it 4 stars. It’s a great app especially for me. I’m taking online classes. Before speechify I was downloading and printing all of my reading. I knocked out 8 articles (20-44 pigs. long) in 4 hours. AND the beauty of it, I’m not confined to sitting for hours at a time while reading. I can take my iPad to the gym and listen/read while on a treadmill or stationary bike. I just have ONE complaint. The app does this weird thing with the letter F. Con7lict, or Beni?it, kly (should be fly) etc. Every time the letter f appears it turns into something else. Except for e7ficient. Go kigure, lol! It does it on my iPhone and iPad. Both devices have current iOS and app updates. If you can fix it it would be great. Ok that's my first review New review Thanks for all of the hard work you've poured into this app. I'm glad I can create an account and see my uploads in my iPhone and Pad. It's getting better. Still does funny things with the letter F. Hey I believe in you guys, you can do it!!
Very good, but
by Mason Hawk on 2018/09/07 12:50
I use txt readers as a way of proof reading my writings. This worked well for that and is something I just started trying. But then I got to a scene I had written that stuck in my memory. When the reader got to that point it had rewritten my work! I double checked everything and soon found another spot it had done this. The odd thing is it did it in a way that made sense, not choppy. It also did it in a way that I had never put to paper meaning it didn’t find some old version of the txt (pdf in this case). At the start it says “Create” and I checked the txt there, it was as I had written it, odd. I am having it read something right around 200 pages and this is the first time this reader broke the txt up into two files when doing the create. This I will fix by keeping parts to be read under 100 pages. Just an FYI for future updates.
A Great App Keeps Getting Better
by Horse n' a Dog on 2019/03/24 09:26
I’ve followed Speechify from it’s inception and the app then was great, but now it keeps getting better and better. The way the app can retrieve web pages, PDF’s is amazing. The layout of the retrieved article allows for personal choice and style of content through Speechify’s amazing set of editing tools. And, then the voices on speechify are the best natural sounding voices I’ve heard from the rest. Thumbs up for the easy to set playback controls. And the volume and speed are so easy to manage that I change speeds throughout my articles or books with ease. Looking forward to future updates. I won’t be surprised if soon even the automated will be automated. One master chip runs them all. So don’t go for all the rest when the Master Chip is Speechify. Thanks Speechify!
I like it but it shouldn’t need a limit for the voices
by LazyNeko :3 on 2019/03/04 06:23
I like use it’s to hear the books I went to read because it hard to read by myself. I like the voices you can uses I really like the child voice the mostly I don’t like the other ones because they are uses to much and some it get bring hearing the some robotic voices over and over again. Before the update I used the app all the time uses the child voice listening to to really good book that have words over 500 words and just enjoying the book but now it really hard to enjoy a book that changes the voice in the middle of it reading it and also I don’t like to stop listening to the book because the voice changes and then have a pop up saying “WOW we sorry for ruining your experience but YOUR TIME LIMIT IS UP”! I really do like this app I just went the upgraded to downgrade to the same app I like in the first place. NO MORE TIME LIMIT!
Excellent update
by Rated for color on 2018/05/18 13:29
Last few updates were excellent. The vastly improve the stability of the program. It no longer crashes the way it used to. I am now much more likely to use it since I know it will actually work. There is still some stuff that I wish would happen. First, I still wish we could choose from that are for iOS voices, but the voices on Speechify are pretty good. Second, the app still sometimes has trouble tracking the highlighting in the words. One suggestion about highlighting that I have is to not have the screen continually move, but rather have the highlights move and then when they get to the bottom allowing screen to refresh to the top of the page. Having the Chi like constantly move makes it harder for me to focus on what I am reading. Third, I may have missed it but I don’t know how to change my phone settings or how far I am zoomed in, which I would very much like. Lastly, this is more of a personal thing, but I would really like to have compatibility with Workflow or ifttt, so I can do things like mass import from Pocket or automatically update from Pocket because they’re text formatting is always going to be the best. Thanks for a fantastic update I really really appreciate it. This is by far the best iteration so far
Best natural voice
by Tedador the Evil on 2018/10/04 00:45
This has the best natural voice of the text to speech apps I’ve tried. However, there are a few things that are keeping me from giving it 5 stars... 1. There’s no landscape mode. I solely need a text to speech app for the novel I’m writing to help me catch mistakes and makes sure the text flows. I have an iPad Pro with a apple keyboard, which means I can only have my iPad set up in landscape. Since I switch back and forth between my novel and this app to make changes as needed, it’s not ideal to see the words sideways on this app. 2. The other Text to Speech app I have lets you do split screen. This means I can have my novel and the app side by side for quick reference and and making instant changes. This app doesn’t have split screen. Although it does allow the other app to float, it’s much too small for me to work on my novel.
I love it!
by Pdavidow on 2019/07/11 11:53
I’ve always loved audio books because they make doing tedious work go by faster, but I couldn’t always afford them and some of the books I wanted didn’t have an audio version. With this app I’ve been able to import books and listen to them for free! The HD voice feature is really mind blowing in how real the voice sounds, and while I’m sad that it only allows 500 words, I understand why it’s limited. The people who worked on this app must’ve worms so hard to create the HD voice. I’m also excited in the prospect of the subscription to hear more of the HD voice! Also the library format is amazing and very organized. I wish I could go on and on with how amazing this app is!!!
Bad
by Phoenix1887 on 2019/06/26 22:03
Man this used to work well, I used to use it like 1 to 2 years ago before the guy who developed it had it completely re-developed and ruined it by breaking all of the necessary features. Now literally almost nothing works. Almost all articles are blank when you import them, some show up as blank with no text but it reads text. Some failed to import with no explanation. When an article gets added it’s nowhere to be found it should be at the top of the list but even when you sort by date added or most recent it’s nowhere to be found and you can only find it alphabetically. It’s frustrating when apps do this. Never break something that works attempting to give it a facelift. Always make sure that your product and product developers bend to your needs never let them make your app been to their needs compromising its relevancy. I do hope that one day it’s fixed...
A premier iOS text-to-speech app (buy some stock in it if you can, before Apple buys it)
by rpd444 on 2019/02/01 16:20
I work in a job that requires voluminous amounts of reading and writing. The iOS text-to-speech function was fine, but I felt that it was a bit clunky at times. Searching for an alternative, I found Speechify and began using it months ago. It is an extremely effective and easy-to-use app. It’s controls are elegant and easy to understand and it seems to work seamlessly via the share feature on Safari and Chrome. If you find yourself having to read a lot for your job, or just for fun, I highly recommend giving your eyes a rest and letting Speechify do some of the heavy lifting once in a while. You won’t regret it.
I share with everybody how great it is
Really Hope The Technology or Infrastructure Improve Soon
by EvilFuzzy9 on 2019/05/01 14:27
I’ve noticed that sometimes sections of text put through the app will get butchered, or the reading will skip over entire paragraphs for no apparent reason. The problem is just a little more frequent than I would like, but I could probably work around it. Honestly, my bigger complaint is the limit on the HD voices. Because I’ve mainly been using this to listen to prose fiction that I can’t get in audiobook form, the difference between the natural, pleasant reading voices and the low quality electronic voice it defaults to after you’ve passed the daily 10k word limit is jarring. It would be nice if there was a premium option where you could pay for extended (or indefinite, but I get that there are technical limitations) use of the HD voices. The default “no internet” voice is painful to listen to for any prolonged period, and the contrast with the HD voices makes it seem even more grating. And if isn’t feasible to have a premium option for less limited use of the HD voices, then some kind of option to record and save the HD readings would be a serviceable alternative. Overall it seems like a really good app, but these restrictions do get irksome.
Changed My Life
by papitodd on 2019/07/08 23:55
This is the greatest app that I have ever used. Many apps say that they can improve your life, but very rarely do. But: Speechify has brought the ability to read, absorb and focus to my life. I have always wanted to read the classics, but my attention span was worse than minimal, and I would drift off into space within minutes of opening a book. This app, specifically while listening and following along, engages me like nothing ever has...I see a movie of what I am reading in my mind. I have read and learned more than i have in 30 years. It’s true. I can’t think of a price I wouldn’t pay for the free version. It is that good.
I use it as a teacher and college student
by Mctoasty243 on 2019/06/11 21:51
Honestly, this app is a game changer for myself and my students. I am extremely busy and use this app to read my ungodly long graduate class articles much faster than I could do by reading them myself. Moreover, after teaching all day long, it is nice to have a tool to help me do my extra work. My students also use the app as well to help them read (mostly special ed students). This app is for everyone. Their app team is extremely responsive, I have had interactions with them in the past and they take their work extremely seriously. I can’t wait for the HD voices to come out! Keep it up guys and gals!!!
A lifesaver
by Totallychels on 2019/06/30 16:55
This app is absolutely amazing! Hats off to the creators and developers. I have always copied and paste did small portions of text into my notes and then asked Siri to read it to me. But actually using the website and having Siri read necessary bits of information to me. This is an app I’m going to use every day. Since downloading the first story yesterday I’ve now used it two days in a row. And I don’t see myself stopping because it’s so easy to take something I want to read I have this app read it to me while I drive. I can pay attention to the story and still be driving. I love the productivity I meet with this app
AMAZING if you're a medical/allied health student!!!
by Jb02359 on 2018/05/17 01:14
So I find that whenever I read I fall right asleep. Since being in a physical therapy program, you have to read a TON. This app is a lifesaver because you take photos of your pages, and it converts it right into an audiobook for you! The one thing I suggest is with each page, take a photo of either the paragraph or a column at a time. This will prevent the text from being processed out of order. Otherwise, it's a great free app and it does the job! Great too if you commute a lot and you still want to study. Plug it into your car's aux port and it will read it to you as you drive.
This app is actually very useful but i have some issues with it
by college student 32 on 2018/10/01 01:27
Firstly the app reads around 7-6 1/2 minutes of what you’ve picked or scanned essentially making the rest of the pictures you took useless and you’ll have to go around 5 pages at a time(yours may vary) Secondly the inability to pick a default language doesnt help because if i have to read an article in Spanish for college (which is what i tend to use it for) its always gonna translate it to english and there is no way to change it or at least none that i have found Lastly dont try to upload pictures from your phone because when you do the first one will be the first you see but everything will be out of order and you wont be able to use it
Simply Amazing. However,
by Asher_Steelix on 2019/09/16 04:28
I’m not dyslexic, but struggle to read.
Thx a lot

So I can learn and do what I have to without spending extra time. I’m 28 I used to sleep 4 hours a day and about 11 years so far. Cause I have to do a lot of stuff. Now I can relax cause I can work and study at the same time without spending extra time. And thx a lot for giving us a free app. Thx a lot I really can’t find words to tell you how I’m thankful. And for everyone there who thinks about instilling the app or not. Trust me you have to this is awesome app.

This app is accurate and incredible
by boltmandesign on 2018/10/14 14:42
When I was a kid back in the 1980s couldn’t read for anything because I am dyslexic. My dad and mom paid $1,500 for technology back then to allow for me to lay a book on a flatbed scanner to read it on Microsoft Dos! It helped me so much getting through the years of struggle. This app is a game changer for kids today with dyslexia because it’s right in your hand to capture what you are trying to read and comprehend the text with voiceover. In my opinion this app should be mandatory in all classes where kids have reading disabilities. It is perfect!
Good but needs much improvement
by Badapps pissmeoff on 2019/05/11 23:09
The app reads great! But when the text imported/ uploaded, not so great. It doesn’t covert the words properly- strings words into one giant word and tries to pronounce it. Lol It does not pronounce the same word(s) the same every time it reads it and breaks words apart, reads it as two words or reads the word minus the last letter the says the last letter by itself. It’s hard to get a good rhythm going when you need to stop and see what the hell this thing is trying to read. The edit feature is super. You can FIX some of the mistakes the app creates if you want to take the time but at least you can do it. Hope the designers read this and fix these bugs I give it 6.5 out of 10
Great but....
by Analytical 1 on 2019/08/26 06:16
The app is great, even for those of low vision.
Redeems previously unproductive time

I am a graduate student and use this app for the bulk of my research on my daily commute. I also use it for poetry memorization and emergency airplane procedure review. The main improvement I would make is being able to manipulate the cadence with lists. I encounter this with my emergency procedures - it just jumps from one line to the next with no pause. I’m not sure how to program this in other than adding an advance “list” setting which takes into account spacing between lines as a verbal pause. Overall, excellent verbal renditions of most written material.

Life Changing.

My boss found out that I like to write, and showed me Speechify on his phone. I had never heard of it, but it instantly answered to every issue and procrastination I had been suffering through as a writer. I went into my notes and the other writing apps I had on my phone... where all of my works had gone to fade away. I was easily able to transfer everything into Speechify, and hearing my work read back to me, instantly made me a legit author! Lol I’m only partially joking- it really did take my craft to the next level, and I am forever grateful. All good, no bad.
Wonderful

I am an amateur writer and was asked to write a story as a present for a blind recipient this holiday season. At first my ambition led me to consider looking for voice actors to record for me, but as the deadline loomed large, it became clear that the story would be novel length, and I could not possibly finish in time. Enter Speechify... the experience has changed my life. It allowed me to edit in a way that I hope eliminates snags for whatever my giftee uses to listen, but the experience has not stopped there. Now I write at night and then listen to my stories on the way to work for the purpose of editing. I use a female British voice and it is quite pleasant. There are certain words in the English language that will always defeat an AI, but outside of that there is very little that baffles her. She has no problem with words like legillimency or Hogwarts. Speechify — Thank you soooooo much. I recommend this to all of my writer friends. :)
Not a single other app on the market can do what this one can.
by Eric Millard on 2018/11/28 20:18
This app is amazing, there is nothing like it. I am using it now to study for my lab exam. I can read things in about a third of the time, all while carrying on with the rest of my life. I don’t think people understand how complex it is to make an app like this. Most of these reader apps have trouble with pictures in pdf files, this one can isolate text from pictures taken with my phone. Have been waiting quite a while for something like this.
Thanks!
A must have!

If you like to travel or you have a long commute, this app is a must have. All of us get tired eyes when reading and implementing this wonderful little app can take our moments in an entirely different direction. Reading is definitely one skill, but listening as our grandparents used to do by radio, the experience is totally new. I recommend it for anyone including children. When combined with the voice and reading along, children will be far more advanced than those who don’t.
The best reading tool I’ve used by far
by Regie316 on 2018/08/24 23:28
This tool is one of the best tools I have used thus far. It utilizes cloud text to speech tool which typically come for a price. Not only that it has OCR (Optical Character Recognition), which also typically come for a price both of these services are free. This tool is extremely helpful if you are student, makes my long commute to University a lot more productive. It also helps me read image PDFs my professors post online. I personally don’t think any current artificial reading tools compare to this app.
Dyslexia
by cheetobuer on 2019/02/04 17:15
I tutor children with Dyslexia and this app is a savior for them. It is the best app out there. Better than the Claro Pen app because when the children take a picture of what they want read to them they can be slightly tilted and not get the photo quite right and it will still work. I recommend this app for every one of my students. It is fantastic. It enables them to keep up with the rest of the class. We have the wear headphones and listen along while everyone else is reading it.
Battery Vampire
by Harun962 on 2019/05/03 10:37
This program has a very exciting premise; read faster without thinking about it. It will slowly boost your reading speed until you achieve speeds you never thought you could. This is marred, however, by it’s ridiculous battery consumption. As the engine reinitializes every few paragraphs for a speed boost, it eats battery power. I’ve lost 30% ip7 battery in one hour. That being said, I’m sure it will be overcome in a future update. It is not as robust as other products on the market, but this fledgling program shows a lot of promise.
Very useful
by NB333snate3 on 2019/03/06 22:02
This is a great app and helps out a lot especially for reading and other large texts. The only issue that I have come across was after the new update it doesn’t seem to recognize a lot of the text and takes a long time to transfer it to text if it does work. I noticed this when uploading from the picture or from your camera roll. Other than that it is a very useful app and would recommend it to people that are in school or anyone that is trying to speed up their reading skills.
So good that it shouldn’t be free!
by Middle Ground Molly on 2018/10/21 23:31
This app really helps me to speed up my reading speed as well as my comprehension of written material. I have a ADHD-related learning disability, and recently started graduate school. This app has been very effective at making reading assignments so much easier by both speeding up the process and helping me to remember what I read. I think that this app is new which is why it is currently free. It has tons of features, and the developers are open to suggestions to more.
Pretty Good - Would Recommend
by ellietate on 2018/07/02 07:17
I really like the many different choice on this app. You can paste text, have an AI read it from an image in your camera, have something read from the web, or just write some things for it to read aloud. I only have one problem- I normally wouldn't trust any AI to identify something from an image so I also assumed this one was going to be off. I was correct. I know it is kind of hard to control a computer but I wish they could adjust a bit more to focus. First I wrote down text and took a picture of it. I dont have that good of handwriting so I knew it would be off, and it was very off. Then I took a screen of some writing off the notes on my Iphone. Even though it is very straight and neat writing it still messed up identifying the words. I would love it if you could find a way for the app to identify the text better because I dint want to read a long email. Thank you, Ellie.
Worked just long enough to get me hopeful and then...
by JDGent on 2019/05/23 19:37
The voice doesn’t pronounce all the words correctly, there’s frequent interruptions that you’ve reached a limit, and frequent interruptions to rate the app. Adjusting the speed setting is a lot like that tiny window of space between scalding hot water and arctic glacier in a crappy hotel shower — good luck with that. But all-in-all, it’s free so not a big deal. The problem comes when it satisfies the need juuuust long enough for you to load it up with articles from your LinkedIn feed you want to listen to later - only to completely spaz out and quit working altogether. So now you have articles saved to a useless app. *sigh
Very user-friendly, not always accurate but still worth it
by liamscott1044 on 2019/02/10 18:30
This app is very helpful for completely long readings that I would otherwise skim. It allows for a lot of different methods of inputing text (from safari, import pdf, and even taking pictures of pages). It tells you exactly how long the reading will take to get through and you can even augment speed and voice. Just be prepared for occasional hiccups in the speech while you are following along because it is not always perfectly accurate
Progress in Helping Low Vision & Dyslexic Users
by GenkiPix on 2019/05/08 03:20
Pretty remarkable. It actually can scan text fairly well, and it’s a great help to vision impaired and dyslexic users, as well of those who find that reading text on small screens strains their eyes. Cons: text reproduced the same sentences twice, one after the other, so it read it twice as well. The technology still has some ways to go before the voice approximates natural speech as well as Siri. Inflections and emphases in the wrong places, unnatural phrasing and somewhat less then human voice quality make it harder to follow a reading than natural it does human speech.
Five stars.
Helps, but need more
by laur385 on 2019/05/17 16:14
I really love the option of scanning articles or textbook materials and listening to them while I’m working on a project, folding laundry, etc. I didn’t realize I could max out on time with the voice selection to play the audio. With my ADHD I find it helpful to have the option to switch the voices playing especially when I feel like my attention isn’t fully engaged. I also find it helpful to listen ad follow along too. Great concept, just more options would be helpful.
Fake help
by BobSuruncle11 on 2019/02/22 21:30
Customer service is highly responsive But there are solutions are ineffective, and don’t work. This would be less of a problem if they didn’t constantly asking me how great their product is. Because every time they ask me to rate their product it just reminds me of the fact that I’ve been using their product for two weeks and they refused to fix the problems with their product. Over and over again I’m reminded that the Flaws that I’m trying to ignore are brought back to the forefront. I even tried telling him everything was perfect and they’re still asking me how good everything is.

Absolutely essential!
by BleakPigeon on 2019/08/12 18:36
As a law student, more and more of my time is spent reading and rereading articles, treatises and cases.
Voice changed
by nickname99870654123 on 2019/02/25 21:17
Before previous updates you could use the improved voices with no limits which was one of the reasons I really liked the app. Not any more now it’s limited to 5 k or about 30 minutes of read time. Since this change listening to books with this app is greatly less enjoyable. The app itself works great but the non internet voices sound like they came straight out of a synthesizer and have the affect of putting you to sleep.

This app may have just saved my education.
by EmiLyric on 2019/09/18 09:40
I’m a 24 year old student with a recent and rather intense anxiety diagnosis.

I got this app a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been SO impressed with how well it does! I only wish it had a word find option. Having the option to locate a specific word would be extremely helpful.

If I can help in anyway please let me know!! by kat00bruno on 2019/09/11 18:02
I am dyslexic and have ADD, I have looked all over the web trying to find a text to speech application with no luck, until this app.

I found this app and I’m able to take a picture of my textbook and it will read it aloud for me. I have a really hard time concentrating. I follow along in my book and listen to Speechify read it for me. I sometimes take pictures of the entire chapter and listen to it in the car on my way to school or work.

I love this app! I wish I knew about it when I was in graduate school. Now I am at school again, this time for work, and I have to read an average of 70 pages per day. Since I have ADHD it used to be very difficult for me to read extensive articles but with this app reading is a breeze. Thank you so much!

Yes!

Would highly recommend this app to anyone who struggles with reading!

by Smoochaletta on 2018/10/26 20:44
Okay, so I went ahead and gave it 4 stars.
I share with everybody how great it is
Really Hope The Technology or Infrastructure Improve Soon
by EvilFuzzy9 on 2019/05/01 14:27
I’ve noticed that sometimes sections of text put through the app will get butchered, or the reading will skip over entire paragraphs for no apparent reason.

Thx a lot

Thx a lot man. You changed my life a lot. I save a lot amount of time. I use the app and can study when my hands are busy or when I’m doing another thing.
Been looking for an app like this for a long time!
by dysixicsurfer on 2019/08/04 16:59
Yes!
Redeems previously unproductive time
by shakdkbfhaksj on 2018/11/29 18:47
I am a graduate student and use this app for the bulk of my research on my daily commute.

Thanks!
A must have!
by Yling Yling on 2019/03/14 15:18
If you like to travel or you have a long commute, this app is a must have.
*sigh
Retention
by CeeLanae on 2019/09/11 01:30
I’ve only used the app for one chapter and only one of the pages had a few errors. When reading a book in my head, I tend to have to back track quite often because I read while not really taking it in. With the text to speech, I follow along with my finger and take in the information as I listen. Makes reading a lot easier and quicker. So glad I found this app.
Absolutely essential!
by BleakPigeon on 2019/08/12 18:36
As a law student, more and more of my time is spent reading and rereading articles, treatises and cases.
