Waste time and waste money
by Arlessda on 2020/10/21 03:24
I subscribed a year and I only used it a month, because this doesn’t a real way to learn guitar and music. There are just some chord exercises. What a waste of time.
Excellent Guitar App

Very well done. Continually expanding. Great song selection.
Awesome Teacher
by Jedi master Nosarouge on 2020/10/20 14:46
Justin has obviously been a teacher for most of his life as he has great teaching skills. His breakdown of chords and his style of lesson planning is makes learning fun and easier to understand than my previous experiences with guitar lessons. This app is worth every penny and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to play guitar!

Great way to learn
by Keithbenedict on 2020/10/17 00:30
I am an absolute beginner. At least, I was when I started with this course, but I can now play many songs with ease and continue to progress. The app is organized really well. There are too many songs to count and the app allows you to slow them down to make learning easier. Don’t be afraid to slow a song down. Even the greats do this to learn new material. One thing I don’t like is not having the ability to adjust the volume of the songs. I’m using an Xsonic Xtone and Tonebridge. The problem is, as I adjust the volume of my guitar up, it starts to distort. But I have to increase the volume of the guitar to cut through the instruments in the songs. I’d prefer to lower the volume of the music.
Great guitar learning site.
by Rbrchem on 2020/10/16 20:45
I really like both content and your teaching style. I am looking forward to becoming proficient, with your guidance.
By far a better online learning tool.
by Darth51 on 2020/10/16 20:22
I’m a beginner with about six months experience. I’ve taken in person lessons and added to those several other online lessons that I thought would be helpful. They all start off super simple and then quickly move into stages that are beyond the average student to pick up on their own. Justin‘s guitar starts off with a very simple premise. He shows you some chords and then he gives you a song to play.Others do that, but Justin gives you a backing track so that you can hear the beat and you get a visual of what the beat is actually supposed to do so as a beginner you can see where your strumming goes, and it lets you play with different strumming patterns while you’re being guided by the music pattern and a set tempo. Nothing I’ve seen comes close to this. And this is how you need to learn the guitar. If you’ve tried others and been frustrated, give Justin Guitar a chance. It is truly a different and more helpful experience.
Justin Guitar is a FANTASTIC learning tool
by DHosinsk01 on 2020/10/16 18:25
I started to play guitar in May of 2020 and I was searching for highly recommended site where I could learn and see progress. Justin Guitar was just that and more. I have now completed the beginner levels, and I’m working my way through the intermediate levels now. I highly recommend anyone who is just starting to trust a n the course. You get out what you put in. Justin is an excellent teacher. You’ll enjoy the app as well.

Superb App for first time players
by P-Ditle on 2020/10/03 22:21
I got the app and my first guitar 3 weeks ago. After a lot of hard work I’ve almost learned my first song. I can put down the app and play a song that almost sounds right! For me that’s incredible. I have no musical background in my family. So this is all new to me.

Enjoying the New Journey
by Ron from Kentucky on 2020/10/02 16:24
Great app to begin learning how to play the guitar. Step by step instructions are needed for this new journey. Justin gives hands on training in every lesson which encourages a person to keep trying regardless of their age or previous guitar experience.
Excellent app
by cssgregg on 2020/09/30 02:22
I bought the guitar mastery method and it was good but it was hard to understand him. I’ve been bought the guitar zoom program which is excellent and Steve is a great teacher but I have so many lessons I don’t know where to go to get the best progress. The Justin guitar amp is exactly what I was looking for for a beginner program. She basically hold your hand all the way through the modules so you know exactly what the practice when and how long it makes it very easy to follow along. I would highly recommend this to anybody looking for structure in their training.
Love it

Lessons during a pandemic. Most apps are expensive video games. This is a fun teaching app.
really great app
by tttthhiiiicckkk on 2020/09/25 02:49
I’ve been using this for the past 3/4 months now and I really like it. I’ve come a long way and it’s mostly thanks to this app. my one and only major suggestion - albeit one that is weird - is a request to have vocals for the tunes we play along to. I think it would really enhance the experience of the user and make playing along the songs that much more fun. It will also help us learn the songs faster if we can sing along to them — and what better way to learn the lyrics than hear someone sing it as we play. - Including little icons that tell us which chords make up each song would also be really helpful. That way, we can pick a song that has the chords we want to work on.
So far so good
by snotnugget on 2020/09/20 19:04
Early beginner. Value the breakdown of steps and the quick introduction of playing along with songs.
Great way to learn!
by Foopot on 2020/09/20 18:55
This is a great app to learn guitar! Justin does a great job explaining how to play properly (and what not to do). Also, the way the course is set up allows you to easily progress to more advance skills by building on what was previously learned. He recommends a nice mix of practice exercises and real songs you can play along with. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to learn to play guitar. And it’s much more affordable than in person lessons!

I've tried other well-known apps, but Justin is the best. He's got a very friendly, down-to-earth manner which makes it feel like your best friend is teaching you. He shows you very carefully how to do everything, and he knows all the places where beginners can get stuck. He just loves teaching guitar.

Amazing and Intuitive way to learn guitar
by Carl cg on 2020/09/18 04:29
This app is fantastic. I had already been playing guitar for about a month or month and a half, but the exercises in this app brought my guitar playing to a next level and I am improving at such a faster rate than I was without it. I highly recommend using this app for the exercises and skill progression in particular, using it in tandem with a guitar book or YouTube videos to add variety is also great.

Still early in the program but Easy to understand the message/ lesson information with good temp and length of time for each lesson.
Great for beginners!
by sfhygvvmkk on 2020/09/17 01:52
Short and sweet lessons. Easy to consume and work on over and over. There are a bunch of different things to work on: chords, switching between chords, songs at normal/slow/very slow tempo, etc. Also gives realistic expectations for beginners. I was pretty discouraged at first cause I could only practice for 5-10 minutes, maybe, before my fingertips felt raw. Thought it would’ve been easier on my fingers. Sounds like that’s normal and advised to play in short stints at the start. Great app
Awesome material!
by 2gamer on 2020/09/15 14:04
Great process and easy to follow. I’ve played guitar off and on for years and just in the week I’ve e used this app I can tell I have progressed. Especially with my tempo/timing which I’ve always struggled with.

Been playing for three weeks now. Started with Fender Play but I like Justin Guitar better. I love the drills he has set up to practice the basics and see your progress. I’m working on chord changes and seeing the number of chord changes I can do per minute is challenging
Mostly a website aggregator with guitar hero functionality
by IamOTW on 2020/09/10 17:31
This app is mainly an aggregator of the videos on Justin’s website. Yes, it follows a progression like the site, but the site has a lot more content. The big disconnect between the app and the site is around song playing. The app has a play along feature that is reminiscent of guitar hero. If you want to learn how to play the song, you’ll need to go to the website and watch the video. The site lacks the guitar hero type functionality so in this regard, the app and site compliment each other. The app would be much better if it included the song tutorial videos. Other things that the app leaves out: too much to list. Go to Justin’s website to see all that’s missing. Finally, I am annoyed that I can’t switch between my iPhone and iPad and have everything synced. If I do lessons on one device, I have to manually tag them as completed on the other device.
Justin is a truly gifted teacher

New to guitar playing here. I have been looking and I have found several good guitar tutorials and definitely by far Justin is the best in every way. He has a clear understanding of how a beginner guitar player struggles at learning and I have improved my playing fairly quickly and in a fun way thanks to his style of teaching and his awesome app. Highly recommended 🎶👍🏽

This is so much better than the other app I used. When you learn to play, you want to be able to play a song. This app teaches you songs! If we had started with this App I’d be so much further ahead. Great tools to give you the knowledge and confidence to become a guitar player! Thank you Justin
Great instruction and Justin is awesome!
by brianyb23 on 2020/09/03 16:24
Justin has a warm, practical approach to teaching that is great for children and adults. The app and exercises provide a reassuring step-by-step process to foster learning and prevent monotony. If there was a recommendation higher than 5 stars, I would give it. Well done, Justin!
Helps Bring Focus
by Duboisa1 on 2020/09/03 00:30
I started doing Justin’s free on line classes but hit a wall and was getting a little bored. Once I downloaded the app I saw immediate improvement. The counters for the 60 second changes and metronome exercises could be done on my own but not with the same discipline. Most importantly are the songs. Yes, the keyboard lyrics are dorky, but once I got used to it, these were great. I definitely recommend it. Well worth the $60 to me.

Best guitar learning app hands down
by Fockelot on 2020/08/27 21:35
Let’s be real. There’s a ton of apps out there to learn guitar and what works for me wont necessarily work for someone else. This is not the modern type of learning that is like guitar hero, this is a classical training in guitar like you would get from a normal instructor. It’s free up to a point but the system and his videos are the greatest. 10/10
I love this app

My boyfriend is jealous of Justin
by w12d'')g2s&c on 2020/08/20 16:58
Because he’s the only person I listen to! I am a big fan of his website and was hesitant to purchase the app, but it is totally worth it. He still references the info on his site a bunch which is helpful and following along with what the song SHOULD sounds like is helpful. A million stars wouldn’t be enough. I’m Justin’s biggest fan, I can’t wait to try his lefty course since I’m a lefty but learned to play right handed. Future enhancement? 🤔

Learning Guitar
by 102053 on 2020/08/19 17:17
When I was a young teenager, I had a friend teach me a few chords and I learned how to play two songs. I decided to learn how to really play the guitar after retiring. I was surprised at how difficult it is and how sore your fingers get. Also, I am not as agile! My immediate thought was to quit but after watching and purchasing the Justin Guitar, I am continuing on and amazed at my progress. Although I am early in the training, Justin’s classes are encouraging and enjoyable. The play along songs are excellent practice after learning new chords. I highly recommend the Justin Guitar app.
Subscription Issues
by jstobpt on 2020/08/15 02:48
I paid the annual fee however the app does not recognize the payment and I’m stuck on stage 1. The app says I need to pay but Apple says I already have the subscription. I emailed support and have not received a response.

Easy, organized, and fun!
by jarkin on 2020/07/31 07:30
The website is free and great, but this feels more organized and offers a fun way to practice skills along with songs you know a la guitar hero. I use the songs with my students who like that they feel they’re playing with a group. Well done!
Wonderful resource
by Mr.hernandez sir on 2020/07/30 09:51
Both of my sons learned how to play using Justin’s website. They are now accomplished musicians. During the pandemic I picked up this app for the same reason a prisoner takes up whittling. I had tried Yousician but found it too cluttered. Justin’s lessons are clean, brief and useful. The practice is well laid out. The songs are wonderful. It’s like you all snuck into my house and wrote down my favorite albums. My ONLY problem is counting the chord changes during the drills. I’m computer literate enough to know this can be done by the app. I expect it’ll be introduced on a future update... For now, I just take rough guesses. I want to thank Justin for what he did for my sons. I look forward to the day I can do a “sing song” with them. Peace! ADDENDUM: After using this app daily for more than a month (I’m working slowly on stage 7) I’ve found gaps in the lesson flow that have me repeatedly going to the website. This is frustrating because the website is free and this app is not. I gladly paid the reasonable subscription- if only as gratitude for the resource Justin provided for my sons, and the rest of humanity - but I imagine that would be irritating to someone who isn’t already a fan.
Awesome

Genuinely useful in helping progress on guitar
by b47a on 2020/07/27 22:50
This just an update. The original review is still below. The app is great. Well worth the money. You can sort by chords but what would be really cool is being able to sort by rhythm pattern . So if I want to focus on 16th note strumming I can quickly pull up a selection of songs where that pattern is used. Might be cool also to add more advanced optional rhythm suggestions to some of the songs though as you progress that tends to come out of you on its own. I had a few other ideas but now I feel like I’m at the record store. Really helps track lessons and progress. Great to play along with and increases difficulty incrementally if you start at the beginning, obviously. The tracks to play along with might seem basic but I gather that’s the point. Working with just a metronome is really hard for me and having something to play along with really helps a great deal in grabbing a feel for the songs and music generally. As I come up with reasonable ideas I will submit them. If your trying to learn guitar then this a great tool to help you on your journey. Worth the money and time I have spent with it. Justin really comes across as someone genuinely interested in teaching and that’s just priceless.
Amazing app

This one works!!
by GordonG7N on 2020/07/27 19:21
I’ve tried a number of times to concentrate on guitar skills ... to move from strumming a couple of chords to really playing. In this off and on quest over many many years no method or course has worked for me until Justin’s. For me Justins course is an excellent mix of rigor and fun. Very quick to get me playing simple songs to break the monotony of practicing the basics. But the songs make me aware of the importance of the basics so this circular reinforcement keeps me interested and engaged. It is guiding me with strong foundation building but with plenty of motivational playing to keep me going. Early on finger pain is a problem... a big problem. Justin fully understands and carefully addresses it and adjusts for it in the exercises. I started with the old course on the web but soon switched to the new app. It is extremely well done and seems to me to really skillfully take full advantage of the web’s special potential for learning. This is a very special course and I highly recommend it. It’s been great for me during COVID time ... and beyond!! Great thanks to Justin.

I have been shocked by the progress made with this app after using it for three months. This is without previous experience on the guitar or musical instrument. The lessons are broken down simply for beginners and progressively get harder only when the learner is ready to move on. Don’t let mot mastering a lesson prevent you from moving forward. Moving forward is the only way to unlock new songs. T he variety of songs grows and becomes more complex which means you’ll practice consistently. You can always go back and practice those 60sec chord changes. So far stuck at 40secs on most chords but enjoy learning songs on slow for now with the expectation that speed will come with time. Try it out! Practice on your own time. Simple and easy to learn

Thought I’d try sometime I’ve always wanted to do - learn to play the guitar. After one month of lessons using Justin’s app I’m impressed by the simplicity and straight forward lessons. Justin does a super fantastic job, great communicator and teacher. The app augments the lessons-it works well and is very professionally done.

Having fun and learning guitar
Best app I have found
by 1 Hot Hand on 2020/07/17 12:48
I was a brand new beginner with the guitar. I tried several other apps but had so many questions, I had no idea what I was doing or where to start. This app walked me through everything. And I’d someone came in with experience, they could bypass some of the earlier elementary direction. I have already recommended this app to some friends. Great app.

Aloha! I Love this app! Justin is a great teacher. He’s concise and specific while keeping it fun. Pace is perfect. And I like the interactive accountability aspect. I’m definitely practicing more which is the whole point. I highly recommend this app.
The best for beginners

I love this app and Justin as a teacher. Excellent method for learning how to start playing. No frustration in his method of teaching as I felt in another learning path from another site. I am advancing a lot more quickly now than in the 3 months I spent with another highly rated site/app
It’s Great

I’ve used it on and off for a year now. He’s such a good instructor. I remembered the notes and hadn’t played in awhile. Picked it right up again.
Second to none

Always wanted to play guitar and finally at a place in life where I have the time to dedicate to it and the means to buy the guitar I always wanted growing up, a Gibson Les Paul! After searching through TONS of online videos and apps I downloaded and started using Justin’s app. Although there are many online videos with good teachers breaking things down, Justin takes it so much further. He really makes learning guitar very simple, straight forward, and easy to understand. Then the lesson plans which follow give you the exercises necessary to perfect what you’ve just learned. But the best part is all the songs he pairs with each stage allowing you to use what you’ve just learned and play the songs you love. Due to how well the app is designed, the pace I’ve been able to learn the guitar due to how well Justin teaches, and the catalogue of songs included in the app to play along with, I spend an average of 2-3 hours a day learning, practicing and playing songs. Although there is a lot of good content online, nothing comes close to teaching guitar as well as Justin. Can’t thank him enough. It’s a tremendous feeling to be able to sit down and play songs you love for hours.
Best learning app ever!

This is without question the Best app for learning Guitar. Justin is an Excellent teacher, very personable and easy to understand. He tells it like it is. It’s going to be difficult, you will get frustrated and it takes time. The biggest thing is Practice. As he says; any of those videos that promise you can play guitar in 10 minutes are nonsense. Hard work and time are what get you there. 50 years ago I started keyboard lessons at 8 years old. I played semi professionally for 10 years starting at age 15. I always wanted to play guitar and with Justinguitar I am. It took me a year to complete the course. I was meticulous and mastered everything before I moved on to the next segment. I’m very pleased with the results and I’m just getting started on my guitar journey. There is so much more ahead. Like Justin always says, hard work and practice is what it takes. I know from experience that’s what’s required. I wish I had done this years ago. I’m extremely pleased with the results. Thank you Justin.
6 months looking for the right solution, this one was finally it for me!
by Scarcraig on 2017/10/10 23:33
I tried lessons at the music store first. My teacher was a washed out old rocker that was just "punching the clock" he was way too disorganized, and he was just a terrible teacher. Next, I tried a more expensive private teacher. He had passion and talent to spare, but he moved way too fast, and again was too unorganized for me. Third, I tried another on-line learning option, it was very expensive, the lessons were just okay, and once more it seemed to move too fast. Finally, my journey came to a successful end with Justin. This app turned out to be the absolute perfect solution for me. It's extremely well thought out and organized, and progresses at the perfect speed. The quality of the instruction in this app is better than what I received paying hundreds of dollars a month to local private teachers. Try this app! A+++ rating all the way, I don't know of a single thing I'd change to improve it!
Making Progress
by SupperConductor on 2020/02/08 00:54
I’ve been trying to learn to play guitar for about 30 years and not really succeeding. I’ve had private lessons and got better here and there. But I never felt like I was making real progress until I started using this app and following the structure provided in the app. There’s a real guitar method here without the usual BORING songs . When you learn the first few chords, the practice songs are quite simple but at least famous pop & rock tunes. After you learn some more chords and strumming patterns, the selection of songs opens up. That’s when I really start to get motivated. I’m practicing at least 60 minutes a day, just because I see improvement daily. I hope Justin releases other apps or offers more content for this one, particularly on theory. Bottom line: if you want to learn to play, this app works, if you practice. They key difference here is you will want to practice.
Excellent but with a couple issues
by nated0gg1 on 2018/11/16 15:40
Overall, the Justin method is a great way to learn guitar and Justin is a gifted teacher. This app really helps get you going on a logical progression for beginners. I have used it for stages 1-5 so far and am very pleased. Playing along with the songs and tracking for your chord change speeds is really great. However, I only gave four stars because there are a few inconsistencies, ie the video on blues shuffle refers to the triplets video that is not on the app (but is on the website) and there is an exercise for ‘old faithful’ but no intro lesson video for it. When I encountered these inconsistencies, I went over to the website and realized I’d been missing a whole lot more content such as the ear training and all the written commentary and practice schedules. Truly, the free website is the best place to drive your progression, not the paid app. What the app provides though, which is totally worth the money, are the songs you can slow down and play along with. So get this app and use it just for those functions!
Thought I was too old to learn
by GermanCoastGuard on 2017/11/09 02:27
Playing the guitar has always been a dream of mine. Long story, goes a little something like this though: grew up busy with other things, work, wife+kids, oops I'm 40. Dagnabbit! Picked up my GSmini a few weeks ago and asked what literature to buy or how to get started. The salesman directed me to towards the internet and I came across Justin Guitar channel that evening. Started with his lessons right away. He is keeping his lessons as they should be (academically speaking), to the point, very relatable, and nothing mixed in with the subject of any particular lesson. He keeps focused on what he's trying to teach you. Makes learning fun, structured and easy (though I'm still just barely above the target 60 chord changes per minute). I enjoy the lessons and the challenges tremendously! I will see this course through until the it's end and will re-post another review.
Beginning at 73
by RRFSOC on 2019/02/14 02:28
I have just begun to use the app. Earlier I had come across some of the beginning lessons. For me the app is easier and more accessible. I recently retired and decided to learn guitar. At 73 I am not as nimble as I used to be but still had the desire to give it a try. I find this application straightforward and easy to use. So far, so good. I practice the exercises every evening and supplement them with other lessons I have come across. I can see the progression tied to the lessons and, of course, don’t know how good I might get. My end in all of this is to be able to play with some proficiency the songs I grew up with. I will give a progress report in several months. At this early stage, I am quite satisfied with my practice sessions and can see the beauty in the way Justin et al have organized and presented the app. Well done!

There is a lot of stuff on the net but what I have found with Justin is that he not only knows his way around the six string but has the gift of teaching. Just because a person can play an instrument doesn’t make them a great teacher. With Justin, you have both. Even though I’ve never met him personally, I consider him my personal instructor. The app is great and worth every penny, and with Justin’s commitment to always honing his teaching and playing skills you can count on him to bring new content to this app, develop others for more enhanced learning, and always bring to this world a greater understanding of what it means to be on the journey of musicianship. Thank you Justin, for giving me a path of learning that keeps me excited to learn!
Absolutely the best; it’s all you need!

I’m constantly amazed at how much Justin cares about teaching, and his attention to detail, and his genius for constructing a mind-blowingly comprehensive (and never dull) series of courses that walks through from complete beginner to serious advanced. Yes, a lot of teachers out there care, but Justin both cares and is a great teacher. As for comprehensive, he even produces short videos on countless small tangent areas that you’ll suddenly find yourself wanting to know about and then discovering that, yes, Justin has a video on that subject too (seriously, where else will you find a video about using loop pedals in an essential online lesson site?). If it’s guitar, Justin’s probably covered it and done a great job. Then there’s the value factor. You can’t beat it.
JustinGuitar Takes You to a Higher Level
by Beginning but Happy on 2020/05/05 23:48
Being stuck at home because of the pandemic, I started looking for apps to help me take another stab at learning guitar. It was very confusing and potentially very expensive. Most of the apps made great claims about their teaching abilities but allowed me very little access to their content before hitting me up for money. I’m perfectly willing to pay a fair price to have an expert teach me, but I wasn’t willing to take a leap of faith before I knew if the app worked well for me. This app by contrast, allows you to try a bunch of lessons before making a decision to pay. Justin is a marvelous teacher who is clear and concise and has a great eye for important details. I am learning fast and very much enjoying the journey.
Simply the best!
by the old guy ha ha on 2019/04/06 20:29
Awesome I’m an old guy not my first attempt at the guitar but the most serious attempt. Being 60 and some stiff fingers I feel the need to learn to play more than ever before. I run a carpet installation business and primarily install new floors at senior living facilities. The homes have live singers from time to time and it’s all the same music. Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and even Pat Boone and of course the big band sounds from the 30s and 40s. I always joke that when I move in the music will be Clapton, Sabbath, and of course the Stones, and Led Zeppelin. And I want to be able to play along and with Justin’s help I believe this is a real possibility. So with that said Just thank you for giving young and old the opportunity to learn to play in a very easy and smart fashion. Simply the best!
I’d prefer to lower the volume of the music.
really great app
by tttthhiiiicckkk on 2020/09/25 02:49
I’ve been using this for the past 3/4 months now and I really like it.
Best I’ve found.
by Jakethah on 2019/01/19 20:54
Justin’s materials are organized in a great way, he’s got the right amount of personality. He gives 100% of the lessons away on his site and just asks for donations. I have a ton of respect for that. The things the app adds on top of that: 1. A tuner I actually like more than the stand alone tuning apps I’ve downloaded (free) 2. The song practice interface that’s the same as four chords, but the songs are organized by what you’ve learned so far. That’s extremely helpful. 3. The chord change practice tool. It’s easy enough to replace with a pen and paper but the app keeps me honest and it’s nice to have the timer and metronome, and fingerings ready there when it’s time to run through them. The app probably has limited mileage, it seems built to be outgrown, I’ve used it about an hour a day for 2 months, I think maybe I have another 2 or 3 months left before I won’t be getting my money’s worth. At that point I’ll probably cancel and switch to donating on the site. Honestly this has been more useful to me than local lessons. Thanks for the hard work on the app guys. And thanks Justin for open sourcing your lessons!
Just what I was looking for.
by Frustrated by the bugs on 2019/04/11 03:56
I was looking for a systematic online guitar tutorial that I could do at my own pace, that teaches chords, strum patterns, and picking patterns, plus how to read tabs, how to play songs, and how to play with other musicians. This is it, and you can try it for free. This app gives you opportunities to practice the online lessons, or you could use the premium membership as a stand alone program. The free version includes a series of beginner lessons, guitar tuner, dozens of karaoke style practice songs, and a chord change practice page (how many chord changes can you do in a minute?) Certainly worth downloading, and worth paying for if you're serious. Much less costly than private lessons.

Justinguitar is everything it promises to be. I’m an absolute beginner who can’t afford to do lessons right now, so I would have settled for something just alright, but this guy really delivers a full and well organized program FOR FREE. I’m learning so much, at my own pace, and the quick ability to learn songs is awesome!! I’ve been playing for two weeks and am already playing a song I love. (Blondie, The Tide is High.) When I get some money I will be SURE to help pay for what I’ve learned and make sure it stays for free. This is what the internet is all about, and I love justinguitar for contributing this immense and quality service to beginner guitarists everywhere. You rock!!!
Finally What I Needed

I discovered Justin’s lessons from his website months ago and was very drawn to his teaching method. It was a bit difficult for me to organize the lesson materials from the site and so my learning kind of stagnated. Maybe it was serendipity that I discovered the app after I was inspired to pick up my guitar and try again, but now I’m hooked and practice at least 30 minutes a day. You really have no excuses with this beginners course app. All of Justin’s instructional tools are integrated and well planned out. The lesson videos, chord changes/sequences, strumming practices, and song library all come together and push you along in a natural way. YOU WILL GET BETTER WITH THIS APP! YOU JUST NEED TO PUT IN THE TIME! I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made. I can play songs now and I can even play the F chord that I once found so dreadful. At the end of the day, I think this product is good because Justin is a good teacher. No tool can really take the place of a gifted teacher. You’re an inspiration, Justin! Thank you for helping me experience the joy of playing music!
Great app. Money well spent

I have been dabbling with the guitar for years now. No lessons either online or personal just what I could pick up on my own. This year decided to pay for one on one lessons and i was also directed to Justin’s website and app. The website and app are an excellent way to practice and learn other aspects of music in between my weekly lessons. The music theory lessons are starting to answer a lot of questions and help my understanding of how music is structured. I’m also learning that the guitar is a very dynamic instrument and I have years of learning ahead of me but I’m confident that with Justin’s website and app and with patience and one on one lessons I’ll get there.
So far so good.

I've used the app for a few days now. I tried Justin's beginners course prior to the app, but struggled with the songs. The app really helps tie the songs into the program and helps ed me learn the strumming, rhythm, and "feel" of the guitar. I'm learning faster with the app than before. I'm giving it 4 stars as I'd like to see the rest of the course added to the app. I'll upgrade this to 5 if they add content. Update 11 months later: The new version is awesome!!! It has the complete beginners course now plus new features. Hands down the best app on the market! May be a little pricey for some, but worth every penny. If you want to learn guitar, then this is the app you need!
Great Source of Learning

I’ve been using this app for a few months now, and it has been a reliable tool. The videos, exercises, and songs, have helped me make advancements in my playing I had not expected when I had picked the guitar back up. The app developers have done a good job with the making sure the app remains reliable. This all being said, the app is not the only part of the journey to be made. Justin’s website contains a lot of supplementary information, including newer lessons on the same subjects. Some would say those lessons makes these obsolete, but it is the exercises this app provides that makes it worth the month spent.
Just my fit!

I have tried to play the guitar a couple of times but have never been able to stick with it. Though a DIY type guy, I realize after using Justin Guitar that I just didn’t have enough guidance or short reachable goals in order to hold my interest and keep me encouraged. Still just a beginner, I can go at my own speed and see real results! I’ve never had a lot of hope in my playing the guitar or any musical instrument, for that matter, before now. I can play songs. See real palpable results and continue learning at my pace and the sky is the limit! Justin keeps it both real and fun and I just love that combination. It works for me!

44 year old trying to learn guitar after dreaming about it since I was a kid. Could not afford to do it back then but now I can buy the best equipment available. Problem now was not knowing how to play. Tried some guitar lessons but life is too busy for progressing weekly like required by the live lessons. They are also much more cost. Justin’s videos are amazing and the app is amazing! I have come so much further using the videos and app than I had ever imagined. I didn’t hesitate to pay for the app because I really appreciate all the hard work that went in to making the lessons so easy to follow! Thanks You!!!

Working with this application and support videos for about 4+ months. Owned my old Yamaha for about 40 years but never really had time to work much on lessons. I really appreciate Justin’s teaching style. His advice and sense of humor encourage students to develop skills before moving on. The song variety is set up to support repetitive learning. I wish I had access to this when I was twenty. This is a great way to learn on a persons own schedule. I look forward to working through this and the next course. It’s never to late to try to improve playing. I have enjoyed it immensely.

Bought a guitar 3 months ago, it was sitting in my living room stating me down for about 1 month before I finally picked it up to try and learn how to play. Tried Yousician first and it had me playing single notes, also seemed very glitchy and not a fun way to learn. Read about Justin Guitar on reddit, so I downloaded it and can play my first song “three little birds” by Bob Marley after 6 weeks. Never actually thought I would be able to learn being a bit older but Justin makes it very easy and actually fun! This is the cheesiest review ever but I’m just excited about finally learning an instrument.

I know lots of people say “I don’t normally write reviews” well I don’t either. What an outstanding super instructive way to learn guitar. Justin is absolutely a genius when it comes to teaching. Very fluid, and even speaks to the pit falls most will face during the early stages of the guitar. Just began this today and am getting the A and D chords learned. I have always wanted to play guitar because I am a singer, but learning the guitar has always seemed overwhelming, and intimidating. With Justin’s help I now feel that the sky is the limit. I know it’s only day one but such advancements so quickly are already boosting my confidence.

I’m 34 and due to being quarantined because of the coronavirus I decided to pick up a guitar. This is the first time I’ve ever tried to play and after 1 week I’m already putting chords together all thanks to this app. I started on his website and thought I leaned so much from there I might as well pay a few bucks and have access to some easy song lessons. Justin’s app is worth the money for any beginner! It feels like what I think a personal lesson would feel like. Best part about it, you can cancel whenever you feel you don’t need the lessons anymore.

This app is simply outstanding. My guitar was sitting in a corner collecting dust for years, and then I found this app. Now I’m playing every day, I’ve learned how to play songs I love, and I can’t wait to learn more and have suddenly rediscovered a love for music. Justin’s method is extremely accessible and approachable, and makes learning comfortable at whatever level you are, even a rank beginner like me. The additions of advanced chords, and the updates with new songs and lessons make this app and the small subscription fee worth every penny and then some. Can’t recommend it enough.

I would highly recommend this to anybody looking for structure in their training.

by Sydow5512 on 2020/01/05 20:30
I haven’t played any music since middle school. I’m now 32 and started playing acoustic guitar 2 weeks ago today. I’m using this app as a guide. I can comfortably strum 60 beats per minute changing from A, D, and E chords. I have just completed the free portion of the lesson which is only level one of nine. I will be purchasing the rest of the app. If you need help learning to play I recommend Justin’s teaching style. You basically learn at your pace as you can repeat lessons as many times as it takes. If this app can teach me to play it will definitely help you.
This app is so. worth. it.
by paperpoppet on 2020/06/23 01:49
I’m so happy I found Justin’s free videos when I first picked up a guitar. They helped me to really grasp the basics and gave me the very motivating satisfaction of being able to play a variety of three chord songs almost instantly. When I was ready to really get serious about my progress with this instrument, I decided to stick with his instruction and try his app. After the free trial I could tell it was well worth the money. The way this app is structured has allowed me to continue progressing at a very satisfactory rate, and is incredibly fun as well. Thank you, Justin!
Great app!
by Felixisgr8 on 2019/12/12 02:18
I highly recommend this app if you are new to guitar and want to learn. I’ve had so many false starts learning guitar I’ve lost count. I tried this app out and instantly took to it. Justin has a way of teaching, even if by video, that feels personable and patient. The lesson plans are well thought out and paced nicely. The best part of the app is the coded play along system. It made learning timing and strumming feel far more natural. With the “playground” I’ve had access to quite a few songs I enjoy— not just boring ones a book or teacher gave me access to.
The BEST beginner guitar app!
by OrangeBeast on 2020/01/04 18:44
As a forty-something year-old just learning to play guitar for the first time In my life, I was overwhelmed with choices when it came to getting started. I’m so thankful I came across JustinGuitar! Justin’s approach to teaching a complete beginner like me was perfect. He starts right off by teaching some basic chords that you can actually use to play songs. Isn’t that the reason you wanted to play guitar in the first place? His lessons consist of what I call “technical skills,” such as chords, drills, exercises, etc. and then applying those skills to playing songs you know and love. Here I am a year later, absolutely in love with playing guitar, and eager to continue learning thanks to the incredible foundation I have built by using the JustinGuitar app. My only regret? I wish I would have started twenty years ago! P.S. His website and other apps are also great tools for building your skills. Be sure to check them out.
Easy. Clear. Progress.

Not all great players make great coaches. Justin has a unique gift of making even the most difficult tasks, clear and simple. There are many great guitarist offering lessons; no one does it like Justin! I’ve learned to read music, understand how the major scales are constructed, and what chords fit within each scale in roughly a month. I’ve tried learning this stuff for years, and it’s always been like trying to see through a window covered in mud. I am incredibly grateful for Justin’s work, and recommend him to every guitarist I encounter! Jordan Solomon
Learning Guitar

When I was a young teenager, I had a friend teach me a few chords and I learned how to play two songs. I decided to learn how to really play the guitar after retiring. I was surprised at how difficult it is and how sore your fingers get. Also, I am not as agile! My immediate thought was to quit but after watching and purchasing the Justin Guitar, I am continuing on and amazed at my progress. Although I am early in the training, Justin’s classes are encouraging and enjoyable. The play along songs are excellent practice after learning new chords. I highly recommend the Justin Guitar app.
Very nice app

At 45 years old, I’ve been trying to learn/teach myself guitar for 20+ years off and on. While some of it was the guitar I had initially, more was the lack of someone who could explain some of the things I could not pick out from the various music books I had. I’ve been playing various instruments since I was 5, and took band /organ lessons for 13 years, but guitar was different. Justin finally helped make sense of it all. I am sure there will be things I will struggle with, but so far, things are starting to click that just didn’t when I tried to figure it out on my own. Thanks Justin.
Worth way more than the cost
by Saratogs Slim on 2020/01/23 02:55
Justin’s lessons are phenomenal, and while much of the beginner course content is available for free on the website, it’s really the song library and functionality that make this app so peerless. For beginners able to play chords but unsure how to string them together into recognizable music, the song tool is really suberb—it combines chords, strumming patterns and a running track of the song you can play along with, pause, adjust tempo and more. I’ve learned more songs in three days using the app than in three months on my own.
Very good
by globglobglibbglowgob on 2019/01/20 12:42
Ran upon Justin’s website and started there. Got the app and finished the course a month ago. I took a year to finish it but could easily be completed in 2-4 months. This course has opened the door up to a place I’d never thought I’d be, playing guitar, making music, jamming with tracks, soloing, and happy....even if just a little bit...and I’m 51. I’m not a pro but I’m an intermediate.....haha. I do feel following the website version is a little more comprehensive, the app has the gadgets like one minute changes and such. Thanks Justin for making this possible.
The lessons I was looking for
by Shawn Tuttle on 2018/09/07 01:33
I’ve learned a little from people in the past but they usually would talk way over my head which left me feeling like playing the guitar was inaccessible. I love how Justin breaks down the daunting adventure of learning how to play guitar. After a few weeks, I’m already seeing big progress thanks to the drills and tracking feature. I also appreciate being able to play songs I like =) He’s a great teacher in weaving together basic skills while keeping me moving forward and thereby keeping it interesting.
Excellent way to learn guitar and music
by jdlVistaCa on 2020/04/29 13:22
The pace and length of the lessons is very nice for a beginner or someone like me getting back in after many years of occasional poking around with no systematic comprehensive approach. It’s covering all kinds of basics and missing tidbits plus mixing in basic music theory knowledge in brief chunks along the way. His style is very casual and friendly. The simple play alongs are very helpful and fun to do. Plus there are lots of side activities and information on his website. Overall it’s an amazingly good find for a guitarist wanting to learn.
Good but room for improvement
by Bhrntn on 2018/12/11 13:04
Have gone through six stages now. Missing pertinent content you will need to go find on website. App has lost my progress twice and had to start over once and mostly over second time. Since it locks more advanced items until you progress to them this is a huge annoyance. I love Justin and his lessons but there’s room to improve this app. The free website is better. The play along tracks here are worth it by themselves and the only reason you should pay for the app vs just using the site. Justin is five stars, this app is about a 3 so evens out at 4.
A great little app
by Krolock on 2020/06/15 22:12
I was a little hesitant about using this app to begin with as I’ve not had much luck with learning the guitar with an app. However, now that I’m getting more into it I’m really enjoying it. Most of that is down to the songs as I struggled a little to get it in the beginning but now it’s possibly my favorite part of the app. I hope more songs are added especially some more rock songs from the 80s as some artists are featured more and I would prefer some more variation as I’m not a big Ed Sheehan or Dire Straits fan.
Fantastic and so much fun
by torpedo2k on 2019/05/16 00:44
My guitar journey started nine months ago. I am using Justin’s online instruction, this app, and theory course and have advanced to the Intermediate Level. This App has made learning chords, chord changes, and strums fun and easy. The tempo can be adjusted as well as the accompanying instruments. Now that I’m an Intermediate student, I’m revisiting songs to replace the open chords with barre chords and finger style. The music selection spans several decades and includes a recently expanded catalog of Pop, Rock, and Country. I’ve used the APP almost everyday and highly recommend.
Great app
Even for a frustrated guy pushing 60!

I thought my ability to play the guitar later in life would be limited to over... my 15 year old son helped a lot including introducing me to youician.. but i couldn’t quite connect with the way it was structured. When i saw Justin on you tube and he had my playing Johnny cash almost immediately ... and strumming songs.. it thought Let time try his app.... Its been great I’m just at level 2 but I’m already playing about 20 songs so its really gets you going..thanks Justin!

Waste time and waste money
by Arlessda on 2020/10/21 03:24
I subscribed a year and I only used it a month, because this doesn’t a real way to learn guitar and music. There are just some chord exercises. What a waste of time.

I started to play guitar in May of 2020 and I was searching for highly recommended site where I could learn and see progress. Justin Guitar was just that and more. I have now completed the beginner levels, and I’m working my way through the intermediate levels now. I highly recommend anyone who is just starting to trust a n the course. You get out what you put in. Justin is an excellent teacher. You’ll enjoy the app as well.

Great app to begin learning how to play the guitar. Step by step instructions are needed for this new journey. Justin gives hands on training in every lesson which encourages a person to keep trying regardless of their age or previous guitar experience.
Excellent app

I bought the guitar mastery method and it was good but it was hard to understand him. I’ve been bought the guitar zoom program which is excellent and Steve is a great teacher but I have so many lessons I don’t know where to go to get the best progress. The Justin guitar amp is exactly what I was looking for for a beginner program. She basically hold your hand all the way through the modules so you know exactly what the practice when and how long it makes it very easy to follow along. I would highly recommend this to anybody looking for structure in their training.

really great app
by tttthhiiiicckkk on 2020/09/25 02:49
I’ve been using this for the past 3/4 months now and I really like it.

Look forward to practicing everyday with the app... I took guitar lessons years ago but this method is so much more rewarding. I’m actually playing along with songs I recognize after one month! This was the perfect way to get through the COVID. Thanks Justin - I’m hooked!

The website is free and great, but this feels more organized and offers a fun way to practice skills along with songs you know a la guitar hero. I use the songs with my students who like that they feel they’re playing with a group. Well done!

Great thanks to Justin.

by SpacemanLou on 2020/07/23 11:49
I have been shocked by the progress made with this app after using it for three months.

And I’d someone came in with experience, they could bypass some of the earlier elementary direction. I have already recommended this app to some friends. Great app.

Second to none
by Lflory on 2019/02/06 18:03
Always wanted to play guitar and finally at a place in life where I have the time to dedicate to it and the means to buy the guitar I always wanted growing up, a Gibson Les Paul!

Best learning app ever!
by Ddddddrt on 2020/04/01 02:29
This is without question the Best app for learning Guitar.
Well done!

Best I’ve found.

Lessons that are actually worth it!!

Amazing Guitar Training

44 year old trying to learn guitar after dreaming about it since I was a kid. Could not afford to do it back then but now I can buy the best equipment available. Problem now was not knowing how to play. Tried some guitar lessons but life is too busy for progressing weekly like required by the live lessons. They are also much more cost. Justin’s videos are amazing and the app is amazing! I have come so much further using the videos and app than I had ever imagined. I didn’t hesitate to pay for the app because I really appreciate all the hard work that went in to making the lessons so easy to follow! Thanks You!!!
Justin Guitar beginners course
by *jflee* on 2019/04/17 02:24
Working with this application and support videos for about 4+ months.
Amazing resource

Awesome app for beginners!

Two weeks in
by Sydow5512 on 2020/01/05 20:30
I haven’t played any music since middle school.
This app is so. worth. it.

Learning Guitar
by 102053 on 2020/08/19 17:17
When I was a young teenager, I had a friend teach me a few chords and I learned how to play two songs.
