Underway: nyc subway Transit
Description
The subway app for on-the-go: real-time arrivals & service status at your fingertips. Tap a station directly on an official mta subway map to see next trains & their real-time arrival info. Underway is optimized for offline experience, helpful during long subway rides underground: map is always available for browsing, as well as the most recent data loaded from the server. Underway is a home-grown, independent project. We believe that public transportation should be user-friendly. Underway is supported by ad revenue and by in-app purchases. FEATURES - View arrivals for any subway station in real-time, mapped onto the latest published map by MTA - Tap on any station on the map to instantly see incoming trains - Compare train options using real-time data - Find out service disruptions affecting subway lines - Closed station indicators - Doesn’t require GPS, which dramatically decreases battery life - Locate nearby stations instantly upon launch, optional with GPS - Share links to specific trains with friends so they can track your arrival in real-time! PRESS REVIEWS Makespace - “Let’s face it: Google Maps can only get you so far. Made specifically with busy New Yorkers in mind, it’s an all-in-one commute compendium." Brokelyn - ”In addition to the MTA’s online Subway Times, which offers the current arrival times by line & station and is accessible from the internet even beyond the subway’s hallowed platforms, Underway NYC now offers the same information but in app form & plotted to a subway map." Viewing NYC - “[Underway] removes all the extra features & bloat of the transit apps and simply shows you how many minutes it is until the next train at your station." WHAT OUR USERS SAY - “I’ve been downloading various MTA apps for years, this is the one that made me say ‘finally!’” - “No nonsense app. Subway essentials … packed in most logical & simple way.” - ”Enjoy having the app in the daily toolbox. Use it when calculating how long I can stay at the concluding applause of a Lincoln Center event & still get line 1 to Times Square for shuttle to Grand Central. Does come in handy. Continued success." - “It's perfect for night owls like me, who must often wait up to 15 minutes for the next train.” - ”Underway matches my mental model of the subway.” - ”Your team has built a totally indispensable app and it’s saved me countless minutes.” PLEASE NOTE We get our data live from the MTA, so when their feed has inaccuracies, so does ours. SUBSCRIPTION INFO Underway is supported by ads. You may remove ads by subscribing to “Underway Ad-Free,” available as an in-app purchase. The current price of “Underway Ad-Free” is 99-cents per month. Payment will be charged to your iTunes account at confirmation of purchase, then charged for renewal 24-hours prior to the end of the current period, at the standard monthly rate of 99-cents. Auto-renewal may be turned off by going to your settings in the iTunes Store at any time, after purchase. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable. Great app

🔥
Love this app
by BigNeLLyMarko on 2020/02/26 13:36
This app is fantastic. You can open it and see what you need to see in less than 10 seconds. It’s awesome when a local train pulls up and you quickly wanna see how long until the express comes. Every other app has you clicking and loading and the train leaves before you find out the express isn’t coming for 10 minutes. Shoulda took that local. My only complaint is that the pro version is so expensive, I want to support the developer but $6 a month is a lot.
$72 per year is crazy
by eevilspock on 2019/11/18 08:53
I write software. That’s a crazy amount to charge for features that rely on free public MTA data, that other apps give you for free.
Works now!
by RelyTee on 2019/10/13 03:10
Thanks for this awesome app!
Great app, great Devs
by BaaronS on 2019/10/13 00:10

What an app!
by 365sunnydays on 2019/09/13 17:14
I like the best. It’s more exact than Google map.
Best subway app
by Jw860 on 2019/08/11 11:52
I originally got this just to have an offline subway map for NYC. But the train times are a killer feature as well. Straight forward and to the point, this is the best subway app I’ve found for the city.
I never write reviews but....
by Jake_Barton on 2019/06/22 17:18
... this app is an awesome game changer! Congratulations and much gratitude. Great work.
Great app, definitely much better than mtas app, but I have some suggestions for the G line
by Abstractt02 on 2019/06/03 04:06
For the stations that have the F and the G running there, can you add “/Queens bound” next to the Manhattan bound side of the departure times so that it is more accurate for the G, since it doesn’t go to Manhattan. Also the issue happens at Hoyt schermerhorn as well Edit: This developer is really the best! Not only did he reply, but he released an update (2.6.4) that was in direct response to my review
love it - please add favorites
by MStyleFTW on 2019/05/01 16:12
The app is perfect, except it would be great to have a fifth icon ("shortcuts" or “favorites”) which would open a layer screen where you can get to all your frequently used stations with a single click, instead of having to scroll around the map. Updated to respond to the developer: For those of us who understand how to use Siri Shortcuts but prefer not to use them (for various reasons) it would be great to have the ability to access our frequently used stations with two taps inside the app (Favorites -> station name).
Mostly v helpful, flaky with some trains
by Kineahora on 2019/03/14 23:28
Mostly even tho i like the app, i decided to write because it's been VERY flaky with the Q train. For instance (only 1 of several instances) this eve it said 4 min, I walk to stop and says 2 min--fine. After elevator i arrive at track and it says 5 min. I wait. 2nd F train arrives after a bit and now app says Q 7 min. I get on F train instead. Q shows up as F train doors close on me. Super aggravating!
All what New Yorker will ever need
by Mskvcvldmr on 2018/12/15 13:56
Team, thanks for the great app. Please continue doing it. No nonsense app. Subway essentials one New Yorker needs packed in most logical and simple way: -actual NYC subway map, not a different version of it -subway stations with train times -locating the closest station -buffered Service Status -station/train related service updates Was looking for app like this for long time.
Essential subway app
by carriedaway12 on 2018/11/25 17:15
This app is fantastic and has made my subway experience a lot better. It includes the official subway map, MTA service advisories, and subway arrival times in one clean, user friendly app. There are ads but they are minimal and hardly take away from the user experience. Because of Underway, I no longer need to cram myself into a crowded A train if I see there’s another one coming in 2 minutes... or run to the station to catch the G train if I see it’s not coming for another 7 minutes... I definitely recommend this app to anyone who rides the subway in NYC.
Pretty rad
by A902450928543 on 2018/11/20 15:22
My last honest review was removed. Reported to Apple. Resubmitting again. Not sure if this was Apple or the dev, so not too concerned yet. As for the app itself, incredibly useful with a clear UX. The data buffer is nice. No clutter. The subscription pricing is hilarious. $6+ monthly is insanity for an app that simply repackages the API feed over a map. The dev teams pricing scheme is classist. $1/mo is a realistic top end for this service. That being said, the advertising version isn’t too bad anymore. The full-screen ads are finally gone. A nice DNS scrub takes care of it anyway! ;)
Great app, but needs a widget!
by titan11290 on 2018/11/14 01:04
Love the app, it’s intuitive and smooth but the only thing missing is a widget option. I’d love to save my local line I commute with to the widget so I can see at a glance if there are any delays. Or save my local station to see the next few uptown/downtown train arrivals.
Only subway app I use!
by LtUnix on 2018/11/13 04:47
Clean graphics and intuitive interface.
Great app, it’s using actual clock data
by toomannynicknamesweretaken2424 on 2018/07/21 14:48
Like the MTA official app, SubwayTime, this is using real-time arrival data, not scheduled nonsense. Better than the official app, this one puts all the arrival clocks for every platform in a station on 1 screen, making it substantially more useful.
Everything you need. Nothing you don't.
by Molingrad on 2018/06/04 22:29
Finally a Subway app for New Yorkers. Map and times. If I needed directions I'd go to Google. Thanks devs.
Just what I was looking for
by cawillms on 2018/04/20 02:42
Best subway app for me as a local. Ads aren’t intrusive, however would love an option to pay for them to go away.
Very functional, good UI, miles better than alternatives
by sergey.shchukin on 2018/04/08 15:26
Service status still shows weekend work during the week (since last update). Please fix. Otherwise great! Update: was a temporary issue. Developer was quick to fix. Great work!

FINALLY the subway app we’ve been hoping for. Great, simple, intuitive design.
Best in Show
by Squidocto on 2018/02/25 17:08
Intuitive, simple coordination of subway information. Map, status, schedules, clickable stations. I've been downloading various MTA apps for years, this is the one that made me say "finally!"
Decent
by Petabread2 on 2018/01/16 14:21
It’s a good, clean app. Very straightforward and easy to use. However the biggest drawback is, it doesn’t contain some information or it goes blank. For example, it’s still missing the 7 train times even though the MTA subway time data has it and I was just using it for the F and there was no downtown information when it is available on the subway time. If this would get fixed, it would be one of my favorite apps.
Perfect replacement
by yasperito on 2018/01/08 03:25
I use to use iTrans but they stopped updating so I had to find a new app but none of them had real time updates that worked as well as this one. Very useful would recommend, please keep updating because it’s a great app!
Free, Fast & Easy to use
by pdxh2o on 2017/12/23 00:38
This is what you want: the whole subway map with as much real-time arrival and delay info as MTA has. Opens instantly & easy to navigate
Hmmmmmmm
by Joshdone on 2017/12/19 00:13
Issue already - five minutes after download. The L train lists arrival times for uptown and downtown trains, but the L doesn’t go uptown/downtown - it goes East/West. Just saying. Red flag for a Native.
Best NYC subway app
by B. Choy on 2017/12/16 20:55
This app has the most straight forward interface of all the various NYC subway apps I’ve used and addresses most of my main issues with other apps: 1. Clean design 2. Real NYC subway map that’s front and center 3. Reliable, quick updating service alerts and arrivals Number 3 is especially important because I’ve used several apps that support the same, but either take a long time to refresh or sometimes don’t update when on the go. The only thing that would make this better is if there was an ad-free version!
Simple and Effective
by Donteee5 on 2017/11/25 14:44
This app gets the job done. It has the most accurate schedule, plus it shows the subway map, even if you don’t have cell phone service. Great app for getting around NYC via subway.
Nice and clean app
by Iggs82 on 2017/11/16 16:10
Very straight forward app with a map, which includes long term updates; statuses; and arrival times (only some of which are real time). It’s def the most user friendly nyc subway app I’ve come across, mostly because it’s free of clutter and pop up ads. Just the kind of app I was looking for a long time.
Best app I've found so far which uses the new MTA realtime feeds
by rlk145 on 2017/10/25 14:14

Can't Get 1 Train Schedule at South Ferry
by Aggieland on 2017/08/30 01:26
Seems to be a good app but as someone that commutes daily on the Staten Island Ferry and connecting to the 1 train at South Ferry, I can't pull up a 1 train schedule. It pulls up the R and W which technically is the Whitehall Station when I tap on South Ferry. The other stations seem to work.
Highly Recommended
by BingBingBing on 2017/04/02 22:59
Your app is fast, simple, accurate. I love the GUI. Please keep it this way and don't go nitty with "fancy"new features. Thanks a bunch, -M
Excellent
by Juramteke909 on 2016/08/08 05:09
I use this app nearly every day! The interface is simple -- a New York City subway map. Just click on your subway station of choice, and you'll find out when the next trains are coming and whether you have time for cheeky late-night fries at McDonald's or you have to sprint down 42nd Street drenched in sweat (currently in the latter category). You can also access subway alerts and find out about construction, delays, and changed routes. Note that train times are only available for numbered trains (except the 7) and the L train (until countdown clock technology is installed across the lettered lines and the 7). Highly recommended for any frequent users of the subway -- or even if you're just in town for a few days.
App Doesn't Download So As To Be Operative
by Librovore on 2016/08/01 19:03
Every time I download the Underway app to my iPhone 6 Plus the interactive subway map does not appear. I get a blank page. So the app is not functional. What's going wrong? My phone is working fine and running iOS v. 9.3.3.

Great app

Works now!

Best subway app
by Jw860 on 2019/08/11 11:52
I originally got this just to have an offline subway map for NYC. But the train times are a killer feature as well. Straight forward and to the point, this is the best subway app I’ve found for the city.

Just what I was looking for
by cawillms on 2018/04/20 02:42

by Squidocto on 2018/02/25 17:08
Intuitive, simple coordination of subway information.
