1st lesson
by Weba We on 2019/11/12 15:08
I learned that the “c” position is a major hand position for a lot of melodies. I learned the the Beethoven song “Ode to Joy” can be played in the RH C position which this app helped me to master. Though I’m in the process of learning to read music, It’s good that I can see the music notes as I’m playing. This app is very helpful and I am excited to learn the next lesson.

Amazing . I think we should have a round of applause
You can’t use the app without a piano.
by gameslayer-18 on 2019/11/10 19:46
If you don’t have piano like me, there is no point in getting this app. It also needs a mic. So, I logged in and it said continue without a piano so I pressed that and it still didn’t let me play the app without a piano so don’t download this app with out a piano and you may think this review is harsh but it’s not I simply want the developer of this app to make a way to play the app without a piano cause I do not enough money to get a piano.
Key Detection is Lacking
by Rhasky on 2019/11/09 21:28
I’m playing on an acoustic piano that’s professionally tuned once a year. It’s incredibly frustrating when I play the correct notes but the app doesn’t detect it. Even worse when I pause to try to go back in a measure where the app thinks I screwed up and it picks up the lightest neutral sounds. They should really HIGHLY advise using a midi connection because their audio recording is really inconsistent. $60 subscription, which I was hoping to continue, is now a waste.

Lessons are good, interface annoying
by Xanthrick J. on 2019/11/02 01:35
Lessons are good, but a bit fast in the beginning. Interface is annoying. A push any key to continue would be much better.

Hi
Love it but no new good content
by HonorableChow on 2019/10/31 14:13
Looks like once apron a time they had good modern music to learn. Have not seen a new modern song in a long time. Just older music they don’t need to license.

NO FACILITY TO PRINT OUT SONGS
by Tabbythetiger on 2019/10/30 16:32
Basically this app is a great idea. It would be nice to be able to slow the readings down and then be able to bring them up to speed as ability increases, but all in all it has some good features. The deal breaker for me is not being able to print out the music in one piece. I was referred to musicnotes.com, and there were some of the flownote pieces available for $4.00 each. So you pay 120 dollars a year for the app, and then 4 dollars to print any piece you’d like to have to play without having to play one line at a time from the computer. I suppose they they think their arrangements are so great that people will print them off to give to friends? Anyway, it’s a deal breaker for me....
MIDI issues with courses
by skyaudiokid on 2019/10/30 13:01
Was really excited to start using this. However am having MIDI issues that prevent me from properly using the app. For some reason, MIDI works well for songs but for courses requires mic to be enabled and seems to bypass MIDI. Using with Yamaha P125 and apple camera connection (original). Competitor piano programs meanwhile work great via midi. If flowkey would fix this then I could properly try this program which seems very promising.
Great app, just a few issues
by NatitCisum on 2019/10/28 23:03
Overall, I love the app. It teaches you the basics and provides you with sheet music for $20 a month. Most lessons (depending on the teacher, and when I took lessons) cost around $60 per hour. It’ll also guide you through how to play each piece, which is amazing. The only downside for me was pretty much the microphone. Whenever I would play through a song, it would either have me play a note really loudly to move on (to the point where it hurt my fingers) or it would move on when I didn’t play anything. Other than that, truly incredible experience.

I LOVEEEEEEE IT
by 230math on 2019/10/09 00:19
I always wanted to learn to play piano! Now that I am retired, I decided to start and searched and tried many apps and YouTube videos! This is by far the BEST app that I have found. The first time that I played a simple song, I could not hide my excitement and happiness! Thank you , thank you, thank you!!!!
Decent
by rzmonk76 on 2019/10/05 14:14
A bit pricy but has more features than the competitors. I’d like to see voice commands added for repeating, starting, or next.
Nice app but
by tomicic.ivan on 2019/10/05 12:26
Its an amazing app, but it is very annoying to have to click button on tablet each time I wanna continue, couldnt you recognize specific key press on piano and trigger continue button?
Great app but..
by OliveNotes on 2019/10/04 11:05
This is a great app, it lets you choose sections of the music, it listens to you play and waits, or you could just play along. The fingers above also help me for where I place my hands at, but there seems to be a problem with the waiting, it’s quite frustrating to have to play a note a few times in a row before the song continues, and it majorly ruins my flow of playing. Especially when I’m using the wait on both of my left and right hand the wait time seems to confuse itself. Again, great app but could use some tweaking in that place.

Fun at first
by heytherehv on 2019/09/28 21:08
This app was fun at first until I found out that you need premium and I looked through all the courses and you need premium to use it. So I go to look for free songs and when I try you need to learn how to do the left hand so you need premium.
Annoying
by dkdjxkdndksnzkskk on 2019/09/28 17:32
I want to learn to play the piano I’m 13 Ik I’m playing the note right and I won’t let me continue I know other people have this problem to. Definitely not keeping this app on my phone I’m going to go try to find a new one.
Ok, been working with it about two weeks now
by Isabcomment on 2019/09/23 16:39
It does a lot but doesn’t really do what I want and need. First of all, it only works with an internet connection so if you expect to take this to a studio somewhere and use it off line, you will be disappointed. Secondly, the courses are good, but uneven with no directed progression. There is no way to gauge your current skill level and start from there. Third, I wish there was an option to show the whole score of a piece. You either practice it their way or not at all. The keyboard showing the notes is fine, but it would be nice to have more suggested fingering notations on the musical score. And an option to name the notes on the score, rather than having to divert your attention to the keyboard above the score. Fourth. I am really only interested in classical. There should be significantly more easy to intermediate pieces in the program. Most of this stuff is public domain, so why not? I wanted to make a commitment so I bought a years worth. Now I am regretting it. I didn't spend enough time during the Trail period figuring out that it wasn’t really for me.
So far so good!

by nickname4001 on 2019/09/19 01:10
Okay, I get it, you need money. But seriously? This app is useless without the premium feature. Add ads if you need your money so badly. Some people can’t afford 20$ a month and can’t afford an actual piano teacher, understand that!!! Stop being so cheap and let people learn without having to pay for everything, jesus.

Good but lots of room for improvement
by maxhodges on 2019/09/16 12:09
Good for learning songs but not for learning piano. Wish I could hide the keyboard hinting so I can focus on learning to read sheet music. Seems light that wouldn’t be a big ask. They have solved many of the fundamentals. But no progress on my request after writing the team about it. Also they need more songs from Bach’s WHOLTTEMPERIERTES KLAVIER and Goldberg Variations. Or a way to input the sheet music. Seems easy to play along if they make the keyboard video view optional (not required for those of us who want to focus on reading sheet music but with a program to give us instant feedback and help us along with fingering numbers.

Modern Practice, Fun Selection
by c_andre on 2019/08/29 08:59
I’ve used Flowkey for the last 3 - 4 years. It offers a variety of music in different genres and skill levels from beginner to advanced. Each song includes sheet music and video demonstration with the ability to practice hands separately, vary the tempo, and isolate music sections. I’ve improved my sight reading significantly with flowkey. It complements my lesson work and has helped me learn faster. I highly recommend Flowkey for students.
Not perfect
by toshimonkey on 2019/08/29 00:04
The note recognition picks up ambient sounds and the cursor will just advance, not giving you time to view the hand placement. If it really waited for you to play the note it would be much better.
Updated Review
by coolpapap on 2019/08/26 16:13
It’s disappointing that you can’t use both the streaming lights and the wait mode at the same time on a song on the Yamaha CSP-150. That would have made this app amazing. Instead, it was disappointing. I have to keep using the Yamaha Smart Pianist app until then. Update...I got it to work now. Works with streaming lights and wait mode at same time only if the piano is not accessing the microphone. Great email tech support. The only thing that would help make this a 5 star app is if I could play the background music while playing the piano like with the Yamaha smart pianist app. The only issue with the smart pianist app, and why I’m looking at this app, is that the smart pianist app only has 50 pop songs.

First lesson
by jcmodmba on 2019/08/21 21:10
First lesson - very interactive... allowed multiple practice repetition until I felt I was able to move to the next task. Too soon to tell what the future holds but it seems if I’m motivated, this process seems to be the very best I have located online to date. I’ve looked at over 12 apps until I found this ... as a beginner with very little (essentially No history playing the piano) I learned notes and a simple tune as I learned the notes with the first lesson. Good luck - I believe any young person age 10 and up cpu;d do well with this...
Love it!
by im 5 on 2019/08/21 20:28
Even though I don’t have membership you can still play free song and learn on free courses it also gives you a 7-day membership then you will have to pay but it also has different options in songs like beginner and others I don’t want to make this to long
The Courses are so Boring
by Dfladge on 2019/08/16 20:39
I’m always out to mention the positive so let me start with a few good things about this app The song selection is better than any comparable app out there It is immensely helpful to be able to repeat and hear the measures of different songs at slower and faster speeds However my goodness going through the course “Yes repeat this C note on both hands for five minutes-with a metronome at 60 bpm, again do it again do it again now watch a video of the same thing with the other hand do it again and then do it again” The pace of these courses is excruciating. I want to pull my hair out. Watching paint dry feels more interesting. I know,it’s important to learn the fundamentals. But you also need to present learners with exercises and lessons that give them a sense of accomplishment. If the developers made an engaging course,on parr with say,SimplyPiano, this app would blow the other ones out of the water. End rant.
It’s a good app, butttt..
by sponegybobysquarepants on 2019/08/13 17:12
It’s a good app don’t get me wrong, but I find it annoying how you need to pay premium just to continue the lessons. Also doesn’t really have my favorite artist/songs on here. I understand you need to support the app somehow, but let people finish their beginner lessons bro.
charged me money
by jo.daddygang on 2019/08/12 18:18

by KeekKey on 2019/08/09 21:03
They would not Chang the note and said it was wrong when I was doing the same notes this made me soo mad I started talk about it to my dad during practicing and then it was changing note I stared screaming at it because my VOICE DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A NOTE BY THE WAY!!! Then I was hitting e but it didn’t work then I hit f and it did work but on f and when I fit f it didn’t so dumb. G didn’t work I tried the low key area and one of those worked this is so aggravating!! Do not recommend!!!!!
GREAT APP!
by #donknowshit on 2019/08/08 06:50
Personally I LOVED the app. One day I decided to start playing the piano. I had a piano in my house, but it was unused so I decided to play it. I didn’t know were to start until I found FLOWKEY! Although the key recognition is not the best the app allows me to go at my own pace and really enjoy piano!!! I bought the premium membership a while ago and am LOVING IT! Although I only started a couple of months ago I feel like I’m making a tremendous amount of progress. I have never had a teacher though I recommend it... this app can lead you through the basics but I would personally recommend that you have a teacher as well. The lessons on flowkey are not the best in my opinion... I can find better lessons on YouTube. But as far as playing and the interface itself it is a marvel to have! So glad this app came into my life... if it hadn’t I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed piano as much as I have.
Great app
by Cmxz21 on 2019/08/07 02:58
the best piano app out there. would highly recommend this app for people of all skill level. (better than simply piano)
im a little angry but its a good app
by Zoe the aw on 2019/08/05 19:26
okay. first of all, this is a great app! i love everything about it. second, you cant do anything almost if you aren't premium. i mean, like im completely new to piano and i know this will go at the bottom, but i was looking for an app where i could just learn without having to buy like 10 dollars a month for piano on an app that im bot going to keep for my entire life. once again, otherwise its a great app, but only if you have premium. so if youre looking for an app to just learn piano, this is probably not the best bet for you. no hard feelings though!🙂

A piece a crap
by HappyRudolph on 2019/07/16 17:03
I tried the first lesson and I completed it and it was good. But then all the other lesson were locked and I had to pay for the lesson and there were barley any songs to play on that app because they were all locked. Then I bought the subscription so I can play the songs but all of the songs were still locked. So I canceled the subscription. So please take my word of advice and do not download this app. It is a pice of crap.
Outstanding way to learn piano
by Drrjr on 2019/07/16 15:10
This app is the best way to learn piano. Takes advantage of current interactive technology to help learn piano with a wide selection of songs from all genres and levels. I especially like the slow playback learning modes and it will even wait for you to find the right note before moving on. The only thing this app doesnt do is pick me up off the couch and set me in front of the piano.
Good but issues
by dinéa on 2019/07/15 16:14
I really like this app to learn the piano but sometimes when I’m playing the left hand I read the sheet music and I don’t look at a the hand. The music will tell me to play an A for example, then the hand is telling me to play a C and it won’t go till I play the C. Very confusing.
App doesn’t pick up in keys
by chrisbawb on 2019/07/12 19:51

Little Scammy
by Gubble201 on 2019/07/07 04:29
Just gives you a taste then charges for a $120 yearly membership which is worded as a certain amount per month. Definitely a way to cash in on the people who forget about the 7 day free trial. So make sure you really want it.
overall good app
by yahyoteson on 2019/07/07 00:12
The only reason I'm giving this app three stars instead of five is because of the wait mode. While practicing using this app it says that I've clicked the correct keys when i know i didn't or it says correct even when i don't touch my piano. Besides that Flowkey is a great app for learning but i wont purchase the full version because of this issue.

🙌🙌🙌
by s.charity on 2019/07/05 00:55
I downloaded this app just for the free version and loved it! Sometimes while playing in wait mode the app will think I’ve played the right notes when I haven’t played anything at all, but for free I’m okay with that. There was a slight problem with one of the songs loading but that is fixed now
I love and hate it
by Rudi Lueg on 2019/06/29 16:06
I have a acoustic piano. So, starting a song and practicing it works for a while. It gets super frustrating playing it more fluent. The app stops, can ‘hear’ a single note, but flys over complex accords. I bought a fancy mic, reformatted and reinstalled my iPad, disabled ‘background activities’ and disabled all notifications. Nothing helps. You also, cant display the notes full page. The support guys are very nice, but can’t really help. BTW: with a MIDI it works like a champ.
Not Free
by ThelionWolfguy on 2019/06/29 00:09
I thought I’d give it a try. It gave really basic lessons and then you need payment for the premium membership. You get very little free songs (less than 5), unless you pay DO NOT DOWNLOAD
Extremely poorly designed
by Long-suffering on 2019/06/26 01:01
This app is good in theory but plagued with awful design choices and is totally inept at hearing what notes you’re playing, once you start playing with 2 hands. Constantly ha I g to tap Next and OK after EVERY SINGLE THING is excruciating. It’s hit rate on hearing your notes is about 80% when you’re playing one note at a time, and drops to 50% or less when you’re playing with both hands. The tempo on the example tracks changes speed inexplicably. The whole thing is a piece of junk. After about 90 minutes in, I’m giving up in extreme frustration. Just glad I was still within the free trial period. Avoid this lousy app.
If there was an option
by The nickname Ian was taken on 2019/06/25 22:02
If there was an option to turn off the background music during video lessons. It would be perfect. I can barely hear the lessons and it would be easier if it was clearer.
Uhhh...?
by happybutdissapointed on 2019/06/23 17:44
Alright so the things that this app teaches you is very helpful and slow but the app doesn’t needs some tweaking to the pitch it hears when you play. I have to play another note that isn’t the right note to move on and some of the double notes move on when I play another note.

Great software but much too expensive
by Ben Pitcher on 2019/06/15 02:27
I love the product itself and the ease of playing through the pieces with the note recognition. It is definitely a big step up from just printing out sheet music. With that said, sheet music is MUCH cheaper and still effective. The free trial made me love the app but because of its high price I will not be paying for a subscription. My advice to the owners would be to reduce the price to where a teenager like myself who enjoys to sit down and learn a piano piece every once and a while would be able to afford it. In conclusion the product is fantastic but drastically overpriced in my opinion.
Very frustrating
by Mastergirlofmagic300 on 2019/06/14 17:09
Sometimes wait mode glitches and it doesn’t even show me what to press and I would like to be able to know where on my keyboard I’m supposed to find the note. Please get back to me
Amazing app!
by Thisnickname76586 on 2019/06/14 14:43
Thanks for helping me learn piano!! I haven’t spent a dime on this app and I’m beginning to understand and learn piano!! I love how it waits for me when I haven’t got the note right. Overall amazing app. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Garbage.

This app gives a free intro lesson ( here’s where your fingers go, type lesson) and everything else is an overpriced subscription. Don’t waste your time.
Full song.

I learned the song i wanted but it’s only the first part. How can I get the whole song?!

Got too excited
by Angmommyof3 on 2019/06/11 23:47
My 10 year old enjoyed the first lesson... then was asked to review before the next lesson... gave 5 stars until the next lesson was locked for the “low” price of $19.99 a month or $120 a year. Not a bad overall deal, however we were not looking to purchase for a basic learning app. They are missing too much for this price
It’s good but why pay just for more
by THE JAPS on 2019/06/08 05:08
I get it that it help them but not a lot of people could afford that. I really like the app, but paying I cannot get the full experience.
Broken
by dyhwdubeidnd on 2019/06/08 00:41
It is a good app... but it does have some bad things... For 1, the wait mode is broken I’ve been playing piano for like a year and I was trying to master fur Elise with wait mode and it couldn’t even catch up, when I did I read the sheet music but... it didn’t keep up it was stuck at g#... For 2, I can’t even practice my favorite songs without needing a 50$ yearly subscription So dumb... For 3, why is there no Drops Of Jupiter by Train...

Needs some more free songs
by GalaxyWolf62 on 2019/06/04 18:49
Now, they only have 8 free songs, but what would be better Is to have those songs of your choice. They should also do more free lessons. As a beginner pianist I would like to learn more techniques on the piano.
Makes me enjoy piano

Very Faulty Wait Mode
by Gfcfh on 2019/06/01 15:41
While the actual material in this app is great, there are a lot of problems with the wait mode that make learning with this app incredibly more difficult. A lot of the time even the slightest noise in the background, or sometimes even in complete silence, the lesson will just skip notes I was supposed to play while trying to figure it out. It’s also incredibly frustrating to play the exact thing it is asking me to play, and it not budge until I press the key like 4 times. Sometimes nothing will happen until I play the note in a lower octave. Great idea and the resources are there but the execution of the app leaves much to be desired especially considering I payed for 6 months of this app.
It goes on without me
by Emma Shale on 2019/06/01 00:34
I’m a new comer to pianos so I use wait mode but when I do it always makes me skip a key or two it just moves on not letting me hit the key overall I still like it
Very good but 1 thing

I love the way that they made it but you have to pay for only some songs so tht is good.
Learn at your own pace
by poemsnpaintings on 2018/08/31 17:44
I am an older adult (73 years old) and new to piano. I tried working with 2 different piano teachers. One taught me like one of her 6 year old learners, though I know she meant well. The other seemed like she was out to prove something and had no patience for mistakes. So I decided to try flowkey and learn on my own. It was the best decision I could have made. I went ahead and bought the lifetime membership and I am glad I did. I am now learning and playing music. There are tons of selections for every level, plus there are courses for learning scales, chords, and more. I wish there were more courses. If I could change something, it would be to have the ability to download an entire piece so that I could print it out and play it when I don’t have an internet connection. This would also allow me to look at the whole piece, and give me a better context for what I am learning. As it is right now you can only see a few measures at a time as the piece scrolls by. Still, I highly recommend this app.
Could be much better
by Zagmongor on 2019/03/17 17:42
The wait mode functionality on this app is quite frustrating. This is the mode in which the song waits until you hit the right key before moving on. Without MIDI functionality on your keyboard you are stuck with it trying to recognize sounds through your phone mic. There is no keyboard calibration setup or anything to let the app know what sound corresponds to what key on your keyboard. So if your piano is slightly out of tune or if you have a cheap electronic keyboard like myself, it has a hard time picking up certain notes. This severely disrupts my flow during a song when I have to repeat a key until it finally recognizes, or it randomly skips notes sometimes. As a beginner i find the sections that are hardest to learn are the ones were I have to repeat notes because it cannot properly recognize them. Also if I search a song that I would like to play, i can’t add it to “my songs” to save it for later. It appears that you can only save songs to your list if you so happen to come across it going through the songs tab and clicking through categories and scrolling forever trying to find the song you want to save. Very inconvenient. Much to be desired after paying $100 for this app....
Not what I expected.
by SterlingSky on 2017/11/20 02:44
I am an experienced pianist, so cannot comment on the teaching tools, but I am disappointed with the sheet music, as in there is none. My complaints: 1. You must play from the line that only shows a few bars at a time. 2. You cannot slow the speed of the flow - at least not that I can figure out. I’m a good sight reader, but It would be nice to be able to do that when first learning a new song. 3. You only see the key you are in at the start of the flow. I would like be able to glance at a key signature from time to time, especially in songs where it changes throughout. 4. I would like the option of downloading the sheet music so that I done have to deal with the flow line only. I would be fine with a small fee to download a digital file. 5. There seems to be a glitch in connecting to Bluetooth. My Roland has a blue tooth connection - this is the first time I’ve had trouble connecting. 6. It does not seem there are 1000+ songs. Where are they hiding? What I like — the partners arrangements and being able to hear and see their scores - albeit a few bars at a time. I will need to go to them to purchase the digital files and hopefully they are available from them. If you want to try it - pay for one month only to see if this is something for you. I paid for 3 months and unless I see some other benefits, that will be all I am in for.
I’m somewhere in the middle about this app
by Nina Christian on 2018/10/20 05:01
Personally I feel like I was miss-lead by the information that was available to me when I was searching for an app to learn to play piano! On one hand I love the interface, I love the fact that flow-key waits for you, and that it moves along as you play! On the other hand, I am almost through all of the courses, and I barely know anymore than I knew prior to paying for this app, their customer service was wonderful before my payment actually was deposited, Following my free trial, I think the concept of flowkey is wonderful, but are we really learning how to play? I don’t think so, we’re just mimicking two hands we see above us, at least that’s how I feel! I could go on anon but those are my two biggest gripes. Plus they mentioned that there’s thousands of songs, and I can barely find time that I enjoy And maybe two that I can actually make my way through playing, so I’m disappointed, not totally disappointed, but enough that I would not renew my membership! Hope this helps someone who might want to learn to play, And is confused on which app to go with!
Great app but I need more MIDI options
by ToeSnatcher on 2018/11/09 00:53
Overall I like Flowkey a lot more than other apps like Simply Piano. It has a better interface and better lessons in my opinion. I also love the fact that it has a MIDI interface since the keyboard I currently own is a MIDI only controller. The only problem with this is that the app doesn’t play back any audio of the notes I’m playing. I assume this is because most people using the app would be playing a normal keyboard or piano. But since my keyboard is just a controller, it doesn’t have any speakers on it so I can only hear the audio through whatever device I’m connected to. The options menu on this app is pretty limited, and as far as I can tell, there’s no way to change this. I realize that I’m probably in a minority situation, but since there doesn’t seem to be a work around for this yet, I’m stuck using Simply Piano if I want to hear what I’m playing. But since I still prefer everything else about this app, I’m hoping that this option will be added.
Useless without “premium”
by Meepow on 2018/06/26 01:49
I have been searching everywhere for an app or book that can teach me to play piano but I was not successfully. This app sounded like a good idea... I learned to play a simple song: ode to joy. When the app let me roam free around to pick another song, I soon figured out that as I had no subscription, I could only play 8 songs! When I opened up a “beginner “ song... I was shocked... the song I found listed under beginner was extremely difficult. As I was attempting to learn it, the app suggested that I take a course on learning the piano. I found many lessons... it was EXACTLY what I had been searching for... but APPARENTLY it was too good to be true... I tapped on the first lesson of how to read sheet music. I felt fine and relieved to take the first lesson... but when I finished it, the app told me I needed a “premium” plan... I was fuming! As realization struck me, I found out that the long winding list of lesson types with even more lessons within them required (once again !) a “premium plan” So to put it simply, the functionality of LEARNING how to actually USE the piano is not very possible on this app without a subscription of $20 a month!!!!!!!!!
Serves a purpose, there are work arounds for lack of sheet music
by Godchagk on 2017/12/16 20:06
I took lessons for years when I was a kid, never very good, but I still like to dabble on my own. The app helps me A LOT for this first couple hours learning a piece. It's much faster than me working on my own. However, after a certain point the app is no longer helpful. That's when i start needing the sheet music to work at my own speed and drill problem areas. The app just isn't good for that and I can't memorize pieces like this app is apparently expecting you to. Overall it serves a purpose up to a point but then you really need the sheet music. some songs arranged by their "partners" do have sheet music available on the partner's website. for the other songs I've resorted to taking screenshots of measures then piecing them together on my computer. not ideal but it works. the classical music obviously has sheet music you can find on other sources. for that reason i upgraded it to four stars. minus a star for expense.
If you’re looking for “the app to learn piano” -Congrats! You just found it. Yeyyy
by bold.dreamer on 2019/05/15 01:23
(...and now feel free to go ahead and share some $$ to good hardworking people who made this beauty. They deserve it and I’m sure you gonna love it! 😉) Last year, for the reasons which I still don’t exactly know, I suddenly decided that I want to learn to play piano. Somehow I kidda figured that ”nothing difficult here and I don’t need a teacher”, so I went researching web. Few months later “the theory basics” were mostly covered, but next then next logically following question came up “Well, that’s all great, now I know it and what do I suppose to do with all of that now??” So the point I’m trying to make here is: If I wouldn’t accidentally found this app I’d probably still be “mastering to play scales” or just simply gave up on all of this “piano nonsense” and would have missed the whole FUN I’m having now.
My savior
by mouse642 on 2019/03/18 02:11
Ok, I never write reviews... like ever, but this app deserves it. I am completely new to piano, never have taken a lesson in my life and while I have been trying, I couldn’t play with two hands to save my life, that is until I found this app. Even though I have only played through a little bit of the beginner songs, I CAN FINALLY PLAY WITH TWO HANDS!!!!! I have tried everything, besides a teacher because I like to learn by myself, and this app is the only thing so far that has helped me to play simultaneously with two hands, and actually play the piano well. It allows you to go at your own pace and slow songs down, and while it’s a little pricy, heck, I might even buy a subscription. So to all my newbies who also have no idea how to play and are loosing hope, this app helped me, and although you can only access a few songs before buying a subscription, I recommend it for the short time you can use it before it blocks off.
A different way to learn the piano.
by Aidanster on 2018/12/09 14:33
I have playing piano off and on for over 30 years and Flowkey is the best and most inspiring teacher I've ever had. I've learned more new songs in the last 6 months than in all those other years. Exceptional piano playing meets intelligent app design. The song selection and piano styles have me playing and learning in ways I would never have with a single teacher. The ability to slow down and repeat any amount of a song is invaluable. As is learning the proper fingering with an unobstructed view of the pianist hands. It can also be a great tool for site reading. I can't say enough about the absolutely beautiful piano playing on this app. Pure unadulterated piano that can simply be listened to and enjoyed as some of the best piano renderings you can find. Bravo to the Flowkey pianist..
Excellent concept and works better than I expected
by BenPhaaam on 2018/03/23 16:59
This app is excellent for practicing music. It allows you to loop a section and the microphone pics up sound very well. There are times when it is a little buggy, but regardless I’ve seen a huge improvement in my playing. If you can sit down and play, it’s like having somewhere there to help you practice. There are some features that I wish were available, like the ability to toggle on and off which notes are supposed to be play next so that you can practice reading the notes yourself. I also wish there was the ability to add markers and save your progress. These are minor things though and overall I’m very happy with the way this app works.
Variety
by Gildae on 2018/11/04 15:51
I love this app, I really do. It’s easy to follow, I love the courses section and I am able to learn how to play different music rather quickly than if I was left to figure it out on my own. Seeing and hearing how the song is played definitely helps me a lot when I am trying to learn a piece of music. I am enjoying learning how to play old school classical music. My one complaint, which for me is rather huge, is that their library of available music isn’t big enough to be inclusive of different types of music people want to learn. For example I want to learn how to play The Old Rugged Cross, Hold Me Now by Red, Burn The Ships by for King and Country, and old school Christmas music including the hymnals because you can only play White Christmas so many times before you want to rip out your own hair. I will gladly give this app five stars when there is a rich selection of Contemporary Christian music, classical hymns, and hymnal Christmas music to choose from.
Bad Audio Recognition
by kentahallis on 2019/03/04 23:31
I purchased a 1 month membership for Flowkey, and at this point I don’t feel it was worth it due to the poor note recognition/clumsy software. I get false reads/misreads fairly regularly, so whether it be I’m jamming the correct key until it hears me and I can proceed with the song, or it proceeds through a part I’m playing incorrectly (or not at all), it’s always frustrating and I don’t feel like I’m getting much out of it. This is particularly prevalent in two-handed learning. I know it’s a software issue because Yousician, which does virtually the same thing, proceeds almost flawlessly every time under identical circumstances. This is probably because it has an actual calibration menu, unlike Flowkey—maybe Flowkey expects you to be playing on an actual piano, whereas I’m on a smaller electric keyboard. It’s too bad, as Flowkey does feel like the more formally instructive option, but I must say I’m disappointed.
Great for Beginners
by Smm-37 on 2018/12/07 17:32
Update I purchased 3 more months. It's holiday time and I can actually play many of the intermediate level songs. I am so pleased with my progress. Flowkey just added even more holiday music. I am so thrilled by the choices of songs and levels. This app is great for practicing piano. I play at least 5 times a week. Original review I purchased this app for 3 months. I am 60 and never played piano. I am now at intermediate level and can play many pieces with both hands. The lessons are well planned and effective. The choice of music is very good with popular songs, classics, and classical. There are also many holiday songs to play. I enjoy practicing everyday by playing various songs I have identified as favorites. These songs are saved so I can find them easily. Flowkey allows for choosing the speed to play the song or using flow mode, a mode that waits for the correct note. I like learning songs in that mode. It allows me to develop proficiency before attempting to play in time. I would recommend this app to adults who would like to learn piano. It would be fine for young kids with support from a knowledgeable adult.
Cannot recommend it enough, just brilliant
by Snehaljshah on 2018/10/14 13:24
This app has no words. Amazing songs, support is amazing, easy to understand and also brilliant courses make this app shine. I have personally tried some other apps as well, but couldn't find one that met all of this. It is true that you do need Premium for the real fun, but even without premium, you could still try out a few songs. There are a few apps where you finish one couse, and then you HAVE to get the premium plan, else the app's useless. This meets everything I wanted in learning piano. It helped me learn a whole song that nearly all my friends love. This app is all you need with practice.
Love/Hate
by Dmdshelly on 2018/05/18 16:33
I have a love/hate relationship with this app. I love the interface. I hate, seriously hate, the music selection. For the beginner and intermediate levels, you are only given snippets of songs. Only the advanced and pro levels are given the full songs. I even emailed them about this and they gave me a ridiculous answer about how playing snippets of easy songs will enable you to play the full advanced version. Right. Further, there are beginner and intermediate snippets that have no advanced version. I really feel like this is bait and switch. Look at our great music selection - btw, you only get a few lines. Ranting aside, I do love the interface and keep coming back to it. I just have to ignore all the beginning and intermediate versions. Which works for me, but totally stinks for beginner and intermediate students.
Incredibly false-advertised.
by Blake Harris on 2017/10/23 19:04
Their subscription page says you will have access to 1000+ songs. In reality, there are actually 216. Note that the selection is decent for such a small slice of the music world, but there is no excuse for such Lies. I wanted to like this app, but many of the songs are only portions of said songs, which differ in quality. If you are going to spend 20$ a month, or more outrageously, 300$ for a lifetime subscription, you ought to get a real tutor. Unless the price drops to adjust to the song quantity and quality, you will do better elsewhere. Edit: raised stars because developer responses are great forms of customer service. I will look into the matter and contact your team. This has been greatly appreciated. Will be in contact soon.
Not what I had hoped for
by colleen0523 on 2019/02/04 23:30
So let me begin by saying I have been taking piano lesson from a teacher for 3yrs and this app is not something I would consider dumping my teacher for. The scrolling songs are interesting but to difficult to keep up with to learn the songs. If you are new to piano you will probably not catch on. I can read notes and play piano pretty well and I had trouble. The catch for me was they don’t allow you to download the songs and print them out. You have to go to another website and pay 6 dollars per song more if you want an actual copy of the song. A hard copy of the songs is important for learning the song so you can go at your own speed and not the speed the site sets for you. Even at a 50% speed can be to fast for a beginner. This is not a site I will continue to use. I will look elsewhere.
Excellent App and Customer Service
by Beareect on 2018/07/02 16:03
I have been a user of the flowkey app for the past four months and am very impressed. I am using the app for teaching myself how to play the piano and the integrated approach of listening, viewing and then playing is fantastic. The app shows me the proper fingering of the notes, along with the sheet music. Flowkey‘s ability to “hear” my playing is very cool. With respect to the Customer Service Team, they are incredibly quick in replying and extremely thorough. I had an issue with the app on two different iPads and reached out to them for a solution. They were very responsive and I give them the highest marks of excellence. Bravo flowkey!
Phenomenal app
by emma2659 on 2018/08/30 01:56
I’ve only been playing the piano a year. Before using this app it took me months to learn a new song. With this app you will learn songs in a third of the time! Or maybe even less!!! The price is incredibly reasonable given that private instruction can cost up to $60 an hour. I’ve discovered beautiful classical songs on here to play that I would have never encountered before. Whether you want to play an easy pop tune or master an advanced Chopin piece, Flowkey has something for everyone at every level. Flowkey is an essential for all piano students!
Review .1
by Reviews not mix on 2018/09/03 22:27
Flowkey honestly is okay. But would probably be better if you get premium which is also quite expensive. Without it the free songs don’t switch often enough, and when they do switch you don’t get to keep the other ones. Not only that it can mistake lower notes as higher notes or higher notes as lower notes. But also if you play too fast it remains at its slow rate and doesn’t follow what you are playing. So when you are learning a fast song it makes it more difficult even if the song is easy. Other than that if you just want to learn a single song than this app is for you! But other than that you either have to pay premium which even then I don’t think it’s worth it, Sorry.
Helpful but pricey
by victoriataylor40632 on 2018/06/22 18:46
I used another service to teach myself the basics so I haven’t tried the lessons. There is a pretty good song selection and there is a tool to help loop. However, it would be beneficial if the songs came with preset loops that you can follow along in a kind of lesson to master the song. This way was very helpful another program and would add value to flowkey. There is also an issue using this on my Mac because I am told I have to download another app to use my midi cord but then am told I can’t download it. Overall, good idea and selection but could use some more user friendly ways to navigate inside a song without having to continually change the loop to practice.
Can print the actual sheet music!:(
by xSupperkittyx on 2017/10/12 20:05
I always wanted to play this one song from this app. I finally decided to spend 19 dollars for a subscription just to get the sheet music for this one piece. I was very exited, then found out that it only TEACHES you how to play it and doesn’t give you the actual music to site read and only gives you one section at a time. To my knowledge there’s no way to actually obtain the sheet music to sight read in your own. I think this was not a smart choice, for i only want one song which is an arrangement and I can’t get to that piece anywhere else. Please make an option where you can download and print a song. I spent 19 dollars of a 25 dollar itunes gift card I just got from a friend. now almost all of it is wasted. If you are looking for sheet music from this app, please don’t waste all of that money and time.
All Flash, No Sizzle

Wonderfully beautiful app with great learning tools. If you are just looking for easy songs to play that are recognizable an easy to learn then this might be a good choice. However, the value is just not there. You can find more amateurish versions online for free or similar professional lessons by others for much less. I was excited to see Billy Joel’s Piano Man as an option, but when I started the lesson I found the version here to be way too rudimentary to be labeled an “expert” lesson. They didn’t even include the intro! What they did include was nothing like any version ever played by Mr. Joel. Anyway, if you don’t really care what version you learn and have tons of cash lying around then by all means, sign up! But if you want more authentic content and consider yourself frugal, please look elsewhere!!

Idk of it’s my phone or the app
by Cooooooool meeeeeeee on 2018/07/24 21:23
When I play, the app doesn’t pick up most of my notes. So while i’m playing it won’t record my progress. It makes it almost impossible to know the song when part way through it stops showing me the music and focuses on one note. I think it’s a problem with my phones mic, but i’m not 100% sure. I have to put the volume on my keyboard really high, and then there is a 50-50 chance of the notes not being heard. I only just downloaded it, but hopefully I can just load up normal sheet music and not use the mic. But over all it’s a pretty good app, I think my phone is just messed up :P.
Nice App
by DF60532 on 2017/10/11 21:50
************************ EDIT: At first I couldn’t get the app to work because I had the wrong type of cord. Make SURE you’re using a midi cord if you are plugging directly into you keyboard or piano. ************************** I’m using an older keyboard from Yamaha, but the note detection software just was that great. I’ve tried adjusting the tuning on my keyboard with another app, but it’s just not working for me. (I think my keyboard is too old to work with newer software, I can’t get it to connect when I try to hardwire it either) It’s so frustrating trying to learn how to play when you have to hit keys to and three times for the app to keep flowing. Somehow I want to see if it’ll work with another keyboard or piano if I take my iPad somewhere else. I’ll update my review after that. ************************** EDIT: Works wonderfully now with my iPad. I have the correct midi cord and all is well. Fun App. I will probably renew for a longer subscription next time. Nice work!
Wonderful!

I’ve been taking piano lessons for five years and I want to start playing songs for fun. This app has allowed me to play Perfect. So far I’m still learning it, but I like it a lot. It would be nice if there were an option to slow down the music as it’s passing. And perhaps if I could select to look at just the sheet music and not the pianist. Otherwise, this is awesome! I have no complaints. Now I just wish I had a way to pay for premium! 😅 Thank you for this app. I have a feeling that piano is going to be much more enjoyable. -Pianist
First lesson

First lesson - very interactive... allowed multiple practice repetition until I felt I was able to move to the next task. Too soon to tell what the future holds but it seems if I’m motivated, this process seems to be the very best I have located online to date. I’ve looked at over 12 apps until I found this ... as a beginner with very little (essentially No history playing the piano) I learned notes and a simple tune as I learned the notes with the first lesson. Good luck - I believe any young person age 10 and up cpu;d do well with this...
One of the best piano learning apps on the market
by julianosam on 2019/04/16 06:35
Flowkey manages to combine simplicity but yet packing a lot of powerful features. The ability to see the sheet music + keyboard notes + player hands position in the same screen is incredibly useful. Also the wait mode and the ability to control the song progress by sliding on the screen is amazing! I move it back and forth many times watching the players hands on the piano, until I get the position of each finger correctly. Keep up the awesome work!
This is the best piano app available
by nswarner on 2018/12/04 09:03
I’m an intermediate player and I’ve tried all the piano apps out there. I was particularly fond of Simply Piano, but after spending a few hours on Flowkey, its clear to me that this is far superior and plays much better songs without the cheesy singer. The loop feature is fantastic and easy to use. The courses are good too. No need to take the courses if you don’t want to, you can simply learn great songs right away. I upgraded to premium after about 30 minutes. I’m hooked!
Rare that I review an app
by ArchduckFerdinand on 2019/02/28 13:10
My 9YO asked if he could take piano lessons, and I said if he taught himself a few songs on a Yamaha keyboard (easier to get rid of than a real piano) we’d agree. Yamaha included a free trial of this app with the keyboard. Fast forward two years and we’ve got a keyboard on every floor of the house, and a Yamaha U3 upright piano in the playroom. He loves learning new songs (recently Undertale themes and Super Mario) and it’s wonderful to hear live music throughout the house. App does remarkably well hearing notes/pitch/octave from the U3, and we use the MIDI interface with the Apple USB connector for the keyboards; keeps iPad charged and he can also use headphones while playing. All these features work flawlessly. Granted, a great deal is up to the pianist, but this app was the gateway to what I suspect will be a lifetime of enjoyment for my son. Needless to say, I eventually purchased the lifetime subscription.
Song Requests
by Eileen the Nguyener on 2017/12/17 18:21
This app is so amazing and I really love it. However, when you request a song, it takes forever for your requested songs to be upload. I requested a couple of songs on June 11th and then a few more on July 20th. That would mean that I’ve been waiting for about 6 months. I understand that the songs that I requested might not be popularly requested ,hence why it’s takes a while, but I wished that someone could like be assigned to producing the most requested songs and then have another person assigned to produce the less requested songs (If they aren’t already doing this). Other than that, this app is fine.
Love this app!
by icecream66 on 2018/10/20 20:22
As a piano teacher of 30+ years, this app is great for sight reading! I have 38 students and many ages and there is something every week they want to play. Several parents have gotten this and love how much more time their kids are spending at the piano because students are playing something they want to play! I would like to be able to tune off the upper visible keyboard...good sometimes, but for full sight reading I use a girls hairband to cover it up....lol.
All or nothing for pricing
by Alina☆ on 2019/05/23 00:59
I can read sheet music but very slowly, and laboriously. This app was exactly what I needed to add songs to my repertoire without penciling in translations on my sheet music which I LOVE as someone who’s not serious about really “learning” to play piano. However I am sorely disappointed that I can’t just purchase song or two, you have to get the unlimited subscription to have access to anything besides the trial. I really wish there was some middle ground. I wouldn’t mind paying $5-$10 per song instead of $100 for all of them.
End rant.
Awesome
by tessa fradella on 2018/10/29 23:48
This an amazing app. The membership was very cheap for what was provided. I have learned many songs that sound amazing from this app but I have some suggestions... It would be nice to have a view the entire sheet music at once option, a little bit better hearing on the flow mode because sometimes I mess up on a note and it says I did it right, maybe some more advanced courses, and some more songs, otherwise it’s the best piano app out there!
Good
by The real stuff😜 on 2018/11/20 03:00
This app is teaching how to read notes really well like no teacher has before I’ve had a few and none of them did it my way but this app does but on the other hand you do have to pay for it to be good and if you’re not ready to do that this isn’t the app for you but if you do pay it’s really great and has plain ol’ song learning but you can also take your time and learn to read notes amount utter things
Looks good but
by mle hahahaha on 2018/05/01 21:07
So this piano learning app, (now I haven’t tried many so my opinion is not very educated) seems good. I’m sure it would teach you how to play piano great. I’ve never played piano before, and within the first ten mins I could play a part of ode die Fronde. But that’s just the thing. That’s ALL I could do. After that you’ve got to pay monthly. Or buy a 300$ lifetime access. You can still get some songs but no more classes and that’s what you really need are classes. So if your willing to pay lots o $$ then ya sure it’s great. But not all of us have 300$ sitting around for apps.

Best app ever!!!

1st lesson

I learned that the “c” position is a major hand position for a lot of melodies. I learned the the Beethoven song “Ode to Joy” can be played in the RH C position which this app helped me to master. Though I’m in the process of learning to read music, It’s good that I can see the music notes as I’m playing. This app is very helpful and I am excited to learn the next lesson.

I understand you need to support the app somehow, but let people finish their beginner lessons bro.
charged me money
by jo.daddygang on 2019/08/12 18:18
This app charged me 60 dollars when i wasn’t even aware!!! be careful with their subscription crap, i couldn’t afford this and can’t get my money back :(
Does not work
by hshsbehshhss on 2019/08/10 02:52
I spent money doesn’t reply to my piano
I wasted an hour!!! I wish I could give 0 stars
by KeekKey on 2019/08/09 21:03
They would not Chang the note and said it was wrong when I was doing the same notes this made me soo mad I started talk about it to my dad during practicing and then it was changing note I stared screaming at it because my VOICE DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A NOTE BY THE WAY!!!

Cool but very bad quality
by KittenLover20000 on 2019/07/24 19:04
First of all you have to pay to play your favorite songs and second it kept crash so after I writing this I’m going to delete this app!
Totally worth the subscription
by 🐩🐕🐩🐕 on 2019/07/22 01:13

Everything else is premium 😠
by Emma StJohn on 2019/07/20 20:45

Premium Not Working Correctly
by little boy named charles on 2019/07/19 17:30
I have signed up for the premium on flowkey, However every time I Press unlock with premium, 6 months,Then it will say that I am currently subscribed to this and will still not let me unlock the course. If I am subscribed to Premium, then why am I not unlocking premium courses and songs.
App doesn’t pick up in keys
by chrisbawb on 2019/07/12 19:51
It was really frustrating to use this app because I would play the correct key but the microphone could not pick up on the sounds
Easy to use
by Only three stars on 2019/07/06 21:46
Haven’t paid for it but so far it’s nice and simple to use
🙌🙌🙌
by s.charity on 2019/07/05 00:55
I downloaded this app just for the free version and loved it!
Dumb

Slight problem
by oofschool on 2019/06/15 23:03
Ok the app is amazing but the only problem is whenever I hit middle c (when I’m supposed to) I get it wrong. I have a digital piano just so you won’t be like “OH MY YOU NEED TO TUNE YOUR PIANO LOL,” other than that, it’s amazing!

Please get back to me

by Angmommyof3 on 2019/06/11 23:47
My 10 year old enjoyed the first lesson... then was asked to review before the next lesson... gave 5 stars until the next lesson was locked for the “low” price of $19.99 a month or $120 a year.
For 3, why is there no Drops Of Jupiter by Train...

by GalaxyWolf62 on 2019/06/04 18:49

It goes on without me
by Emma Shale on 2019/06/01 00:34
I’m a new comer to pianos so I use wait mode but when I do it always makes me skip a key or two it just moves on not letting me hit the key overall I still like it
Very good but 1 thing
by Houngyang on 2019/05/30 11:52
I love the way that they made it but you have to pay for only some songs so tht is good.

Review .1
by Reviews not mix on 2018/09/03 22:27
Flowkey honestly is okay.
All Flash, No Sizzle
by Buckeye_Tony on 2018/02/24 02:34
Wonderfully beautiful app with great learning tools.
Nice work!
Wonderful!
by Slim1437 on 2018/12/07 02:42
I’ve been taking piano lessons for five years and I want to start playing songs for fun. -Pianist
I’m hooked!
End rant.
Awesome
by tessa fradella on 2018/10/29 23:48
This an amazing app.
Best app ever!!!
