Poor service
by Cat🙈🙈 on 2020/06/03 19:44
I took my van for a service the manager director shlomo Simmons. I took from me £1200.50 for changing the gasget and cleaning injectors after 10 days leaking oil when I took it back he said I know and wanted to charge me more to even look to see what the problem was. When I confronted him he told me go to the police or who ever you like I don’t care. Nothing but ripping off people with no regards to there safety. I showed him my receipt from 10 days ago and he still didn’t care and told me to take my van elsewhere this is shocking behaviour for a business just ripping people off for money please don’t ever go to this garage

No more ‘full screen’.
by Kenneth Frost on 2020/06/03 16:32
Before the recent updates, I could ‘full screen’ Google Maps so that only the “Google” logo would appear on the bottom corner of the screen. This was done by simply tapping any empty area. Now, tapping an empty area drops a pin, the same as if I would have held down one point on the screen. Most of the time, I used Google Maps in full screen mode. Now that this isn’t an option, I may reluctantly have to find another app.
Clutter

Pity you can’t see the maps anymore because of the tabs for finding unwanted food and services.

App requires updating to improve driver safety
by Abhi_02 on 2020/06/02 19:34
Compared to navigating from within the app, the CarPlay Dashboard is a lot safer for the vehicle driver in multiple everyday use cases. Please prioritise user safety and update the app for it to display navigation in CarPlay Dashboard. On the point of safety features, I love the driving lane suggestion when approaching intersections. My special kudos to the team responsible for making it real. It’s an absolutely key safety & delight feature for vehicle drivers! 👏🏼👏🏼🖖🏼
Declutter Screen while Exploring ?
by dngmbs on 2020/06/02 17:58
I love Google Maps and I used to be able to go into full screen view mode when exploring , no intrusive restaurant or navigation tabs at the bottom or top of the screen ! Why has this option been phased out ? Whenever I tap on the screen now it just drops a pin and i stay with the search & navigation bar on ...
Terrible
by Rob258462 on 2020/06/02 17:01
This used to be a really good app, but since the last 3 updates, it’s really gone down the pan! You can’t remove the search bar now, when you try, it comes up saying “dropped pin” even though you did not want a dropped pin! Google Maps version updates all say the same thing! Come on Google. Start listening to your users!
Google stop destroying waze
by jstartop on 2020/06/02 10:54
I always used to use waze until google bought it and are now destroying it. Would naver use google maps as they track all your data. Stuck with Apple maps if you don’t want to be tracked 24/7
Can no longer hide menu bar and UI
by KeenGamer on 2020/06/02 09:54
Latest update has changed the behaviour so that it is no longer possible to view ‘full screen’ and hide all of the UI by just tapping anywhere on the map. Doing so now always drops a pin, where previously that only happened with a long press.

Late May Update
by uta-ur on 2020/06/01 06:20
I am a map person and I love using Google Maps almost everyday. However, what is up with the new update? I can't seem to hide the UI and search bar by tapping the screen once anymore. It's very inconvenient, in my opinion, and quite bothering that I cannot hide the UI, which is now replaced with a one tap pin. Am I missing something here? Google Maps, just think about the people with small phones.
search along route function gone
by jd9190 on 2020/05/31 23:06

by Brown333 on 2020/05/31 09:43
Seems we can no longer copy an address as in full - when you you only get the road. Can we have the full address as before please ? Also, you used to be able to clear all the clutter from the screen and just view the map by tapping twice in a clear space (very useful when browsing traffic levels) but this also no longer works - please make this available again - thanks

Where has full screen map gone
by jurassichound on 2020/05/30 13:11
Never had an issue with google maps, it’s always been my favourite app but the latest update seems to have removed full screen maps, now it’s got the search bar and other stuff on the screen all the time and tapping on an empty area on the screen drops a pin, come on google sort your game out.
Could do better
by jaguarstr on 2020/05/30 12:47
Reduced this to 2 stars. The new street view navigation is crap you go all over place totally unstable. Adding a way point is not what it seems and is fiddly. Really is not a way point adder at all Reducing to 1 star. Why the bloody hell don't stop fixing things that are not broke. Drop a pin now and you get half the map took up with information at the bottom we don't want. The little street view window was enuf what the hell is the matter with you people. While in my estimation this app is starting to fail. You can get camera info and road speeds by using Waze a sister app of google. However I do think google should look at incorporating this information. If I could give this no stars I would. The one thing that is annoying is when you use the feedback within the app nothing gets done. This app fails to load the street view on the iPad 10.5 pro. You have to try several times to make it load sometimes it works if you totally shut the app, but I known to have to turn iPad on and off. I have told google this several times over a period if a few months and they have not fixed it. This keeps crashing on the iPad 10.5" pro What’s happened now. When using street view and scrolling along the blue line it suddenly goes to a black screen and you have to come out of it just to do it again. Plus the fact the scrolling in street view is unstable it suddenly goes wild and shoots miles past where you want to look. This app is crap for cycling. I done a route from Broadway North in Walsall the uk to Wolverhampton The route to me round blocks and around streets I did not need to go around. Kept sending me off the main road for some stupid reason. I don’t rely in this app fir directions.
Google map have a bad women voice.
by Sword94 on 2020/05/30 12:39
The previous update voice was a man and it was understood. Now the woman voice doesn’t Pronounce the directions probably. I got lost many times in the UK which costed me Fuel and time. We need the previous man voice pack please.
What happened?
by Herts Hammer on 2020/05/30 10:30
I use Maps on a daily basis. Just recently it has been very poor. Had to uninstall/ reinstall twice in past week. Starting with the irritating American female accent! Poor connection resulting in dropping directions completely while other Apps were working perfectly so not a phone/data/ signal issue. Also been giving some ridiculous Public Transport routes, possibly that’s due to misinformation regarding available services but still not as thorough as in the past

by JToady on 2020/05/30 08:37
This is a great app in the UK. Use it as a backup for TomTom. The only reason for this is it’s used in a HGV and I cannot include vehicle parameters in the app.
Nope
by banjohair on 2020/05/29 22:22
New update is rubbish. The one tap pin drop is useless and unnecessary. What research was done to establish this as a necessity?? Stop changing for the sake of change. Wish I could reverse update!! Route planning doesn’t show mileage. Why? What reasoning is behind this? Pointless.

It gets worse & worse
by Daveypez on 2020/05/29 14:11
Roads are now invisible in Google Maps because the light colour in the infills doesn’t contrast enough with the white local roads . I find it unusable for other than following directions as I just can’t see what I want. Maps are for more than driving. I use an iPhone a MacBookPro and a 27” hi-res Dell screen and Google Maps are a waste of time on all of them.

Getting to like Google Maps but............
by Bored64 on 2020/05/26 20:37
The main product is lacking some of the functionality Waze offers, i.e. traffic camera alerts that work. But more importantly you are now lagging behind lesser competition. Looks at the fact Apple CarPlay Dashboard is now supported by Magic Earth. Perhaps merge Waze and Google Maps into one superb product and concentrate on giving the community a class leading, user friendly and fully compatible Nav system that integrates with CarPlay.

Landscape mode not centred anymore!
by k2iss on 2020/05/25 11:50
I won’t use this app anymore, despite having been my fav for navigation. I just can’t stand the way the off center landscape mode looks like right now, it’s horribly distracting and you miss a lot of the right side roads’ information. Hey google, who in hell thought this was a good idea?! Landscape mode is best to avoid the iPhone taking up your windscreen space, I’m not a uber driver I won’t use portrait mode for navigation. Time to try again the other navigation apps!
NOT WORKING!!!!!!!!!!
by TheOfficialHoward on 2020/05/24 17:55
I go on Google Maps every single day and every time I do I quickly tap the screen once to remove the search bar and other UI elements to display the map full screen. This normally works in any orientation. I do this every time I use Google Maps. Today I tried opening Google Maps AND IT DOESN’T WORK. I’M NOT HAPPY AT ALL. If I try tapping the screen it drops a pin. Every time I try it drops a pin. To drop a pin you are supposed to have to long press. This is COMPLETELY INCORRECT BEHAVIOUR and it makes the app COMPLETELY UNUSABLE. To make matters worse if I try to find the place I’m looking for on the map, it doesn’t stay in the same place and constantly goes back to my location without me doing anything. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG HERE AND IT NEEDS SORTING OUT IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will not be using Google Maps due to these utterly infuriating newly introduced errors until they are corrected because this is just totally unacceptable from you.

Lexus Cardiff
by guvver on 2020/05/19 05:06
What an awesome company, they’ve looked after my Lexus since I purchased it in 2012, it runs as sweet as a nut. I’m impressed every time I visit there, the welcome, the superb attentiveness, and the overall experience of knowing your car is receiving the ultimate in health checks, you even have a video of the servicing. Wow, it makes one feel safe. Yesterday Dave Short looked after me, he made everything easy and smooth, as I’m 73yrs little things are important, the place was spotless and proper distancing was in place, all went seamlessly, so thank you Dave, you’re a star ! I’ll be back for my next service, by the way I fell in love with that gorgeous new Lexus...... I’ll be back when I win the lottery. Xx
Google “tracker” more like
by toman1001 on 2020/05/18 12:16
As useful as the app is (and yes, I think the app is very well designed and great for navigating), it seems to get more use constantly tracking your location (in app or not) for hyper-targeted ads, which disgusts me.

Google maps is the best maps app that I can find, they seem to have all the best satellite imagery and traffic info. Not as good as it was in earlier versions
by Bridster45 on 2020/05/12 06:42
The app is not really that bad. With a good data connection, there are few issues with the overall operation of the app. The current issues are quite minor but noticeable. Firstly, which may be due to the increasing presence of roadworks and road closures, the app takes some very interesting detours which are not direct by any means, and often are pointless as the roads have reopened hours beforehand! The second thing I’ve noticed, is at the top of the iPhone where the time, battery and cellular signal strength are shown quite often revert to black, which makes them almost impossible to see. They would be a lot better to be displayed in contrasting white all the time to remain visible. If these issues are rectified, the app will regain at least an additional star.
Awsome
by _*Raven*_ on 2020/05/11 12:10
I use the offline maps feature in particular because it is so helpful. I dont really need data so I dont pay for it but I was scared I might end up lost somewhere. This literally saved my life so now before going anywhere, I download a version of it on the maps so I know where I am even when offline.

Muted when I drive
by 相守的意境 on 2020/05/09 06:35
I often get very annoyed at my phone when I use GoogleMap while I drive to work (I know I shouldn’t be playing with my phone while driving, I didn’t). It was playing the navigation when I find the route, but once the car starts, it got connected to the bluetooth, and unfortunately was muted. I cannot just randomly pull over to the side and check. No sound is a big NO NO for me, and the even more frustrating thing is I don’t know how to change the sound device on GoogleMap from phone speaker to car Bluetooth. Or should it be automatic?? I think it was far too dangerous to use then before my upgrade, sadly. Waze was better in this case. Please fix this bug Google
The app that shows Google’s evil...
by Rich7NS3 on 2020/05/08 12:46
The app constantly tries to get your personal data in any and every way it can. Whatever you try to do, GoogleMaps tries to take your data. I’m constantly getting requests to access the microphone, photos, videos, etc. Extremely annoying and massive invasion of privacy without justification. However, the directions for cycling are great! Second to none in that regard.

Suggestions
by chadwell charlie on 2020/05/07 19:36
Please can you do something about it defaulting to walking after I’ve been using it for driving. Unless I change the mode or method of getting to a destination it should stay on what I selected. Shouldn’t have to keep going into directions , select driving etc Speed limits. Add an audible warning to let you know your going faster than you should be Noticed a few times the map is telling me to go the opposite direction to my destination, tells me to turn around. Why didn’t it just direct me the current way I use this app all the time and I’m starting to notice a few issues

Improve map enlargement
by ziggyzak999 on 2020/05/06 09:03
I love google maps so much better than apple version but google why can’t you improve the enlargement so when you make the map bigger the motorway junction numbers also get bigger. At moment they stay the same tiny size which makes it hard to see easily the junction numbers on UK motorways. Also the road names stay the same size on enlargement which makes it harder to read?

Got potential, but
by Sinoosek on 2020/05/05 13:42
When You set destination, you have to keep an eye on map, otherwise it can reroute you to 50 miles longer drive just to save 2 minutes. It’s not showing every route, many times You have to drive “blind” until it recalculate to proper road. In Carplay I doesn’t allows You to mark spots like police etc. As well in Carplay it resets everytime I connect phone to car, so it forgets destination and saved places. Frustrating!!

Updated May 2020 I’ve had to delete this app. A new issue developed about a month ago, whereby the app freezes and my iPad does not respond to anything. After a couple of minutes, the app eventually closes. As other reviewers have said, the functionality of this once great app seems to have reduced. Street View doesn't always work, tapping on a road does not always give the option, whereas it did previously, Traffic view barely works either, certainly in my area (Scotland), only a few motorways show any form of traffic display.
Lost all my saved places
by Lady Loves To Travel on 2020/05/02 16:57
I loved Google maps but not sure what they have done with the latest version. I have lost all of my saved places, hundreds of them from all around the world. Tried to raise this issue to Google for over a week with no response. Seems I am not alone! Very disappointed. Please sort this out Google!!!
Really good but...

Great app with amazing feature I am able to put all stops that I do for work. The only problem is that it is not tracking my timeline properly I use these details for inputting my expenses correctly, but it seem to miss trips on my iPhone compared to when I had a Samsung?
Timeline doesn’t work!
by Andu0007 on 2020/05/02 08:29
I’ve always loved reviewing, editing, contributions with photos etc and answering questions as a ‘Local Guide’ For some reason since I changed to an iPhone...it just doesn’t work! I’ve fed this back, been on forums & no reply or help whatsoever from apple or google, they’re obviously not bothered So, I no longer bother!!!

Great. But beware the ‘AVOID TOLLS’ option! 😡
by sammy-jenkis on 2018/09/05 12:39
Always rely on Google Maps when we’re in the US, and especially liked the ‘Avoid Tolls’ option when you’re in a rental car and don’t want a hefty admin fee from the agency for going through a cashless toll. However I discovered last week that it’s not reliable - drove from Ohio to Staten Island NY with ‘avoid tolls’ selected, no warnings/pop-ups to say anything to the contrary, only to find ourselves at a $15 bridge toll to get over to Staten Island. Turns out there is no way to avoid a toll on to the island, fair enough, but if that’s the case PLEASE GOOGLE can you give us some notification of this when we select the route? I could easily have gone to an ATM and got the money before we got there if I’d known, but the only mention of the toll is hidden away down in the route description, and the top of it still says ‘avoid tolls’. No warnings whatsoever. So I’m now looking at a hefty fine/admin fee that would have been entirely avoidable if the nav info had been more accurate. Yes I know that all New Yorkers are aware there’s a toll, but it was a last minute trip and I trusted google maps to just avoid the tolls if that’s what was selected, or tell me if it wasn’t possible. For future updates, the difference between cash and cashless tolls would be useful info, so we could avoid cashless tolls, but use cash tolls, as that’s what most people out of state are worried about.
Currently the best maps app
by lntghll on 2020/02/12 09:48
I use maps primarily in the car as satnav through apple CarPlay. I used apple maps for years because it’s clean, reliable and just generally a very good app. I tried google maps along with a couple of other apps e.g. waze because I wanted some feedback about the traffic around me. Apple maps will advise new routes if there’s traffic but I doesn’t give you much more info, this keeps the app clean but it’s not what I wanted. Google maps has a very simple but game changing feature for me, and that’s the active alternative route information. It will actively show other routes with the estimated time when taking the route, this not only allows me to anticipate traffic and take another route but it’s also enabled me to become more familiar with the areas I drive around regularly. I’ve been using google maps now for over a year, and while there isn’t much difference in terms of functionality compared to Apple maps and waze, it just has some nice extra features which I couldn’t be without. The interface isn’t as nice as apple maps, but the demo icon/arrow when driving and using as satnav is more accurate and the graphic makes it much easier to understand where you are on the road and what exits you need to take, especially welcome on busy UK roundabouts.
Very good, just some volume frustration
by 4rmz94 on 2017/09/24 05:04
Hey, I must say this is a very good free app, it has improved greatly over the last 5 years and I certainly have come to prefer pretty much all aspects of it over iOS maps, only issue is that the music and navigation volumes are not independent. I ride a motorbike so I must use headphones for navigation, usually I do not like to have my music volume too high as I would like to be able to hear if there are hazards approaching (alerting only by their sound, e.g. Fire truck), but when the navigation voice over comes on, the volume is too low, sometimes I end up making the wrong turn, so I turn on the volume during the turn-for-turn notification, and google maps is then at an adequate level but this changing of the volume affects the music playing in the background, and suddenly when that round of google maps instruction is done, the music is blazing in my ears. Why are these two volumes attached, please could you make it separate, as the directions are essentially in app notifications, why don't you attach google maps volume to the ringer volume instead of the music volume, this would've much more convenient, or give it its own separate volume adjuster so that adjusting voice volume doesn't adjust music volume, thank you.

After reading some of the reviews I feel compelled to also to write about my experiences with Google Maps. I am currently working as a delivery driver and completely rely on Google Maps specifically for areas that I am not familiar with or have never been before. Most of the time I can be navigated right to the front door of my sat nav journey but the biggest majority of the time Google Maps Satellite navigation system takes me in the exact opposite direction of where I want to go , it also has really big difficulties in connecting to its source and I find that I’m either being told to turn either ahead of actual turning point too soon or too late and then have to perform a complicated u turn on a really busy road , Google Maps is also very very guilty of taking you a longer route to the desired destination , and Google Maps always has me turning up and down streets on to roads of on coming traffic as it’s clueless to any of the one way systems in GLASGOW’s city Centers . I fell that Google Maps Satellite Navigation free app is not being updated or monitored enough and it’s just a matter of time before seriously injuring someone or killing them as road traffic is dangerous enough without an inaccurate liability thrown in to the mix of Glasgow towns busy road systems.
My go to navigation app. But...
by Jonathan T on 2019/01/26 09:05
Google Maps is an amazing free app. It’s just about bang on for most destinations. Some recent upgrade I only noticed the other day, like UK speed camera warning. I’ve always found it pretty accurate for the most part but a bit slow to react. Like all NAV apps or devices, you need to check the screen because the directions aren’t always clear enough for some sections of road. I’ve found it very useful in London, but again you need to glance at the screen to be sure as sometimes the verbal instructions don’t come on. Just like any other technology, don’t just rely on it to know what’s best. Always check the route it’s suggested and make sure the vehicle you’re driving is suitable for these roads. I would like the functionality to drag the route away from the chose one, like you can on a computer. Handheld devices are more powerful than computers if not so many years ago, so this functionality should be possible. Well done Google on a brilliant free app.
Worst navigation ever
by Xenia1125 on 2018/11/19 06:52
Not just that it doesn’t show all the bigger routes that can be useable but don’t shows alternatives when you find yourself in front of a road close. Stopped at a petrol station, and after it’s just changed the way and instead to take me home after a 200 miles drive it took me around the town from the other side of the city. Also why the hell does the map starts to rolling around at a junction of the motorway, out of the town, on a difficult road just because the blue line that shows where you have to go crossing itself, so you are not jus unable to see the route properly but also have to improvise until it starts to work again and it gives you 10 minutes extra to your travel time. Getting frozen and turns around just without any reason and shows you going to the wrong way When you have to leave from a crossroads it’s freeze and not telling to turn to the right or to the left, but obviously you can’t wait until it’s fixed because cars behind you, so you turn into a road and than you will se that’s the wrong way so have to drive again extra time When you need to move from a destination to another that’s actually like 200 yard behind you in a different street, this app not going to offer you to turn around but gonna drive you all around and drop you nearly where you just have been It’s a terrible terrible app and caused me tons of stress while I was driving and I’m not going to use it anymore
Bugs since update
by Jykl91 on 2019/05/19 19:03
Original review: I was a big fan of Google maps as it was so useful for travelling. However, since the most recent update I've noticed an annoying bug. When you click a business it comes up with reviews from the previous business that you pressed - not the current one. I.e. it does not update. Very annoying - please fix. Update: I have cleared the cache and restarted my phone as suggested. Unfortunately, the problem still persists. When you click on a few locations, all show the same review as the first location that you clicked. In order to see the relevant reviews for the current location you have to close the app but the issue then repeats. Prior to the recent update it used to do the same for photos ie. It would occasionally show the same photos for different businesses when you clicked on 'photos'. However, since the latest update this has been fixed, but the issue now applies to reviews instead.
Something has gone wrong.
by Tgt1977 on 2018/11/02 17:54
I use google maps on most journeys, even routes I know well as I like to know the ETA. Recently when I tell it to take me home, using my saved locations, its shows my home on the map, I tell it to start guidance and then it picks a random point on the map and starts directing me there. The other day for my 15min drive home it wanted to take me to central London, which is two hours away. Today it got me most of the way home before telling me to take a turning I don’t usually take, I followed it as I assumed it was because of some blockage ahead. By the time I worked out it was taking me to another random point on the map, I had driven for the 20 minutes estimated to get home only for me to discover I had been guided to a town half an hour from home. This is an unacceptable glitch which could be considered dangerous, if panicked drivers try to make alterations whilst driving. Please sort this bug out.
Gets bus stops wrong and walking paths, otherwise it’s ok
by Kat.Scientist on 2020/01/22 14:45
I have always used google maps but lately I’m finding it to be extremely frustrating. Today I wasted 40 mins of my time going back and fourth because google maps got the bus stop wrong. Bus 425 does not stop at bus stop HA near Homerton hospital (London) by the way. Also it would tell me to leave at a certain time to walk to a bus stop and I would be waiting at the bus stop for the bus to come and then it would say the bus has already been. I look at other people to confirm that I didn’t miss the bus and the bus ends up not coming at all or is 3 mins delayed. Another time google maps provided a route on foot but part of the route was actually to walk through the walls of a building. How is that possible? - I’m not a ghost! The building looked like it had been there sometime. All I can say is, google maps needs to try update things at a quicker rate if possible.
Are they experimenting for lemming behaviour??
by Maria S1 on 2019/12/14 15:00
I often use google maps to find locations and routes. But more and more, I’m finding that it directs me to longer or convoluted routes where, by simply looking at the map, I can find quicker and shorter routes. The best example I can quote: I used it to find a location and the best routes to get there from my, then, current location. It suggested that I walk to a bus stop then take a specific bus. Fair enough. I walked to the bus stop. I then checked the route again from my ‘new current location’. Guess what! It suggested that I walk to the NEXT bus stop on the same route and take the same bus! The SAME bus, as in, not just the same number, the same physical bus with the same schedule!!! I decided to ignore it, took the bus from where I was and that was that. This is one example of many similar incidents, where it is very obvious there’s no sound logic to get you where you wish to go. I genuinely feel there’s something more to their algorithm; like, if we tell people to go in obvious circles, would they do it? Do they follow directions blindly losing all sense of their spatial surroundings? Are people developing a lemming- or sheep-like behaviour? That would certainly make a very interesting study, but I don’t remember signing up to it. It come at costing people time to get places. It’s not harmless. I now tend to ignore most recommendations or inspect them and check for myself before taking google maps’ recommendations.

Too many mistakes in the navigation system! The application try to lead me into one way roads. Shows me “turn right” many times on places where i am not allowed to turn. Front of the Tower Bridge there are 3(!) mistakes too. For example the cars are not allowed to turn right from the Byward street to the Tower Bridge. I see many tourist every day do this mistake with rented cars because of the google maps and in this cross it is very dangerous maneuver. I do not like the Waze. Slower and looks confuseing compare the google maps. I still want to use this app but you should fix this issues asap because there are many around London. Please update your system more often. This is the most populare navigation system on the word. Please handel this fact with responsibility.
Something’s gone wrong
by josieandnala on 2019/04/13 16:57
I used to use google maps as I felt it was super reliable but recently some strange things have been happening. Along a guided route it will randomly change your position as though you were half a mile away and subsequently reroute in error. Also, again while in a guided route if you search for an extra stop such as a petrol station, after the results come up it doesn’t let you return to the route guidance regardless of what you press on the screen. You have to close the app and relaunch and re-enter your original destination which is a pain to have to do. Sometimes when you want to search for a new destination the screen freezes on the map and nothing you press works. And lastly at junctions the screen starts to rotate as though it’s disoriented resulting in you being unsure of what exit to take. There are too many glitches google! Please fix as some of your loyal users will start to look for alternative apps that are more reliant like waze!
Please add a hgv part to this app🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
by dannyt67 on 2020/02/08 08:34
I love Google maps and would never go to a different navy system. It's clear, quick and very easy to use. It gives you all the info you need to have a safe journey. But, I now have my hgv licence and am looking for a good navigation system to use. One that could take the vehicle details and work out the best routes that avoid, weight limits, height and width restrictions. Green zones and also takes the vehicles speed limit into account. Maybe also tell you how long you have been driving for and when you need to take a break and for how long. Add a little hgv tab where the car, train, bike and walk bits are to open the hgv bit. If you could do this then you would continue to make me a very happy Google maps user
Sometimes overcomplicating it
by Kicsi csibe on 2019/01/17 19:15
This is the best map app so I use it the most. However sometimes routes me on a longer and more expensive ways to my destination than I would do so I need to evaluate the suggestion. For example: going to Heathrow airport terminal from Clapham Junction (London, England) it suggested to change from bus 285 to Piccadilly line for the last stop. Which would have been not much time gain but hassle to get off the bus and onto the tube and pay and more time for the tube. So needless to say it stayed on the bus. Another time the maps tries to route me through park where cycling is not permitted or the park is already closed for the evening. In these cases it's not simple for me to give feedback there and then. So some button would be nice in one corner of the map to give feedback on these inaccuracies of the map.
Status bar disappears
by mapissues123 on 2019/03/19 18:15
This has gone from 5 stars to 3 - and that’s being generous. Here’s why: Whilst using the app once I have started the journey there is the status bar at the bottom of the screen showing the ETA and number of miles remaining etc. If I then touch the map to look ahead and see if there is traffic, or move to a different part of the map, or move the scale in or out, the status bar at the bottom disappears. The only way to get it back is to force close the app and enter the destination in again and start all over. Occasionally it will come back if The journey re-routes or search for something using the search button. But everything disappears including the re-centre button. This has been happening since the last update. I am running and iPhone 6S. I have the latest version of iOS and Google Maps.
Google maps default is to change the route when you have set a preference
by slashermct on 2020/02/08 07:45
Decide to go for a ride off highways on my motorcycle. Set preferred route plus avoid highways and start riding. Almost instantly Google maps ‘finds’ a highway route which is shorter or more efficient and puts a prompt to tell me that unless I tell it again it will change my route from a preference I have already set. I have a few seconds to pull over, remove my gloves, get the phone out of it’s holder and tell it not to do that. No time to do all that so it switches route. It’s the same even in the car. I often don’t have time to alter the prompt when I see it because my priority is actually driving. It’s quite simple. If I have set a don’t use highways preference then DON’T USE HIGHWAYS. If I picked a route from alternatives THEN USE THE ROUTE I PICKED! I don’t mind the prompt telling me of traffic changing but if I have made a choice then the default answer should be to do what I told it to do already.
Many new flaws
by gvfhvvgh on 2019/12/07 17:09
Really poor choices have been made in the development of this app. I wrote a review about a year ago to complain about it regularly getting my location off by upto a mile sometimes - this issue seems to have been somewhat rectified, it rarely happens now. However, in its place are even more poor features/bugs. - PLEASE get rid off all this UI junk. I don’t need “explore recommendations”, I don’t need the temperature, I don’t need anything other than a search bar and the map itself. Put all that junk in the sidebar menu, obbbbbviously. - satellite imagery constantly disappears even when it was already loaded AND I have all of my area in a ten mile radius downloaded to my phone so I’m absolutely baffled how they’re messing this up. I have to close the app and open it again and bingo, it’s fine. So it’s not a connection issue - it’s an app bug. A new one. Rubbish. - will direct me to the end of dead end roads THEN tell me to turn around. Just tell me to turn around immediately instead of wasting my time. Durrr. - doesn’t show the final destination/house number until you’re actually on the road it’s on, would be super handy to just have that onscreen real small somewhere. You know, something actually useful rather than pointless food outlet recommendations. - oh yeah, pay your taxes.
Version 4.38
by Foggy headlight on 2017/11/03 12:10
Please remove everything added to this update back to how the previous version was. This new "preview" element is the most useless thing ever. I don't want to "preview" I want to "Go". You are not able to use multi stop function any longer, only in preview mode which is terrible. The screen times out alongside iPhone screensaver rather than being on all the time whilst in the app like previously. The map has stopped automatically moving when your own gps point has moved and you have to manually move yourself (very dangerous if you're driving). It is hard to get it out of compass direction and to follow your own direction automatically. It has removed the ability to see arrival time has been removed, the distance and time to destination doesn't show in preview mode, the distance countdown to the next turn etc has been removed. I would like to navigate to multiple points, not preview them. Please change this!
Problems with car play.
by Juneyse on 2018/10/07 09:38
Hi google. Hope you see this. Got a few problems with google maps on car play. When I’m navigating using google maps, if I get a txt come through my car play will read the txt and then the screen goes back to google maps....but the navigation has stopped. I have to come out of maps and then back in, then suddenly the nav is working again. Also, if I use Siri to do something...let’s say set a reminder for myself. If I’m using google maps, after using Siri, it goes back to google maps (where nav has stopped again!)then goes back to the home screen. I then have to start the nav all over again. This is just two things, my friends are having same issues plus other issues. I know google maps is new to car play, so hopefully things will get sorted soon.
Weird stuff creeping in
by Charlie merrell on 2018/07/06 18:06
I used to rely 100% on Google Maps but recently it seems to have become far less reliable. I’ve just been on a journey where I selected the optional route and pressed start and ended up on the default route anyway. Last week, the app took me off the motorway (leave at exit xyz) routed me next to the motorway (that was flowing freely) for 3 or 4 miles then put me back on. It then only flagged my junction when I was level with it so I missed it, then the alternative route that it said had a 4 minute delay, added 30 minutes to my journey despite me only being 3 minutes from the hold-up. My kids have started to make the same comments. Has something changed? Or has Apple done something now that they are finally trying to develop a decent map? I might be trying other apps anywayz
Google maps running behind other navigation maps
by Optional1379 on 2019/01/27 00:14
After all these years still no speed limit, also you need to ad more alternative route options so the driver can choose between rounds and not have the only route option by google, this used to be better with previous versions and I find it’s just got worse with updates, Google’s route option not always the best option. Also another thing to note is when music is playing google will mute the music completely for directions instead of heaving the option to just fade it like TomTom navigation which allows you to set the voice instructions as a percentage of the music volume, doesn’t need to be completely muted it’s just annoying. Common google sort it out, common sense here. For this reason you get 3* from me.
Why can’t Google maps get my address PIN on the map correct?
by percylongprong on 2018/05/17 04:56
Google maps cannot even place my address so any directions are wrong. I have asked them for years and they show a photo of a block of flats an d say this is my house!!! They insist my house position is 741 London Road. There is no such number (I believe as this was demolished years ago) and this land in Brambleside corner of Hammersley road is now Latter Day Saints church!!! Every now and then for 30+ years I have told them. The google map car came down Brambleside Cul de Sac and took photos of Broderick House, a block of flats like the other 6 Blocks all with numbers 1 to 6 on the name plate and made that my house. Visitors that come to see me I have to give the postcode of HP11 1LE which is a block of flats. Come on Google I will be dead soon Speak to me via email/phone and ask where you are going wrong..I want to give a minus one star but YOU have already placed a ONE star which I cannot remove..
Bao Han Restaurant Hoi An Vietnam

Earlier this year my wife and I and 2 friends stayed just outside the beautiful historic city of Hoi An for 1 week . Close to our hotel , north of the town we stumbled apon the Bao Han whilst going for an evening walk . The restaurant is small but the owners and staff could not have been more welcoming . We didn’t know what to order from the extensive menu so Phi the lovely owner and maitre’d helped us chose the best seasonal options . The food was fantastic . The best Vietnamese seafood we had in our whole trip (including some fancy city restaurants in Saigon and Hanoi ) I would highly recommend this restaurant to everybody . We would love to come back and see you again Many thanks for the delicious food Jimmy and Paula London England
Lexus Cardiff

Xx
One of the most useful apps you can download. But ugly app icon...
by RyanNappi on 2019/01/27 22:24
I use this app every single day. Not just for navigation but for finding local services, planning trips in advance, finding hotels and restaurants, Reading reviews, writing reviews and the list goes on. Google Maps is in that small group of apps that are irreplaceable and truly make our lives easier. The only thing I’d change is the app icon itself. Google’s other app icons are so simple and clean. I know Maps is a whole business unit in itself and is a very big deal within Google... but the red pin on a white background would be a confident and understated way to design the icon.
Bug in the system?
by bigdaddi67 on 2017/12/23 09:06
Never ever had a problem till last night. Map kept telling me to go off the main road and choose a parallel road and every time, it ended up as a dead end? It was late at night and foggy so couldn’t see the dead ends till I drove a little. One route even wanted me to drive through, not around, a public park! I was met with a closed gate given the late hour! Not sure why this happened as you’ve always been reliable but when I used another 3rd party map service, the ETA dropped by almost 10 mins for a 4 mile journey. I can imagine it was the ‘short cuts’ it was suggesting but none planned out. One even suggested driving down an alleyway behind a row of houses. I know you collect data from Maps as I can see a lot of info is recorded in the background. If you need more of my details to investigate the route I took yesterday, happy to provide if that helps.
PLEASE get rid of “explore local area”
by Antarctica71 on 2019/03/23 12:47
Great app, but one thing about it really annoys me, and it pops up every time I open the app. I normally open it in a hurry to check traffic to wherever I’m going, and straightaway “explore (local area)” pops up. I have to close it to have the full map view without it. I appreciate that some people may like it and use it a lot, but other people hate it. Could we not have a choice of whether to turn this feature on or off? If I want to explore the local area I will search specifically for this, but it is rarely the case for me as mostly I just want to go to a particular place and want to check directions for that. I don’t want it popping up wasting my time whenever I open the app. PLEASE can you fix this? Thank you.
Good
by Tiny poppy11111111111 on 2019/11/11 12:08
I really love this app for walking, its clear and it’s features enable you to find the direction by using the camera. I’m this respect it’s so much better than apple maps as it’s not confusing in the slightest. Additionally, the estimated time arrival is very accurate and the directions for other public transport is great. However, for drivers this app is absolutely not worth it. You can’t beat apple maps. It doesn’t follow the car and you have to continuously scroll to keep up with the directions which is dangerous when driving. Also, it doesn’t keep centred, sometimes it will be upside down, which makes it so confusing. Every time I’ve used it when I’m driving I have had to pull over and change to apple maps.
Penalty charge
by zingo UK on 2018/12/04 16:10
Dear google map I love your app it’s very useful and has helped me almost every day however I have just received a penalty charge for £60 from Manchester City council because I was driving in Manchester City centre as I needed to pick up my Girlfriend from national express bus station on Portland street as I was following the directions from your map not knowing that it’s only for buses not cars , could please update places like that or use a different route for car drivers like me on places like these to avoid the penalty charges , I would like to thank you in advance if you could do that so we do not have to go through the same problem again as I was directed to go through that route .
Simply the best and most up to date map
by m1tchec on 2019/06/08 21:21
Got to say I'm always sceptical of the big players and their apps but this is simply the next app for directions out there! The maps are up to date and stay on even when 3G coverage is intermittent. If there is one thing missing it's speed limits for the road you're on. Apart from that this is so much better than any paid app and compared to waze it stays on the route and gives so many options as you drive for other routes. Still waiting for the map to show speed and speed limits. Waze has it so do many others. Come on Google please add this feature
What’s with the janky frame rate?
by Christopher Stott on 2019/04/15 06:19
Horrible to use, scrolling and zooming is so choppy, slow and laggy that I’m just going back to apple maps until this is fixed. Don’t know about other issues reported as I didn’t get that far, I just can’t use an app with such a laggy interface. Update: I tried the fix provided in Google’s response to my review. It helped, and the app is usable again, but it’s still not smooth. The frame rate is still poor compared to apple maps (and compared to every other app I use) and it creates an uncomfortable jittery effect when scrolling. I’m pretty sure that back when the iPhone maps app used google data is was fine, and I have an iPhone XS so processing power definitely isn't an issue.
No street view?
by rocket soup on 2019/08/20 13:21
Where has street view gone? I can’t get street view anymore when I click on a road, I can only get it by clicking on a location like a restaurant and go from there but that’s not very useful because if I travel to far down the road in street view the screen goes black or is pixelated so you can’t see anything. I guess this is a bug but I would expect an update the same or next day to fix this considering google is 1 of the biggest companies in the world with millions of users daily using google maps. It’s now been a week or more and still no fix. Cmon google
Great app as always, but....
by Pr1te5h on 2019/05/02 21:23
Google has always been king of maps. Much better than Apple maps. Lots of awesome features added over the years, and more recently the addition of 'location sharing'...similar to find my friends. However, this location sharing has a few bugs they need to iron out... 1. It takes AGES to locate someone. Much longer than find my friends. 2. When I force it to refresh the location status of someone, it basically does nothing. 3. It seems it is unable to locate anyone if that other person is using their devices GPS for their own needs (I tried to track my wife's progress as she drove through France last month, and it only seemed to update whilst she had stopped at services...when she was actually driving and using google maps for navigation, it never updated...I had to use fiend my friends instead to see where she was). I'm so pleased google have added this feature as I would prefer to use google vw find my friends...but I need the above bugs to be fixed before I can fully rely on it.
Location Accuracy not working anymore
by deesto on 2019/10/29 08:53
Since your last two software updates, the accuracy in London is terrible on an iPhone XR and XS for some reason. It seems fine on the country side. But in London It’s never quite triangulated with the GPS signals or the motion sensor enough, so google maps is always half lost. As a driver I am Not noticing this issue with Waze nor Uber maps, for example (so I know it’s not my phone, and have compared the issue with a brand new phone from a friend’s). This was a brilliant app before. Please fix it! I also noticed the speed cameras were gone and the maps showing half the roads at some point, just like other users mentioned. I think this may have now been fixed though, perhaps. But the app has definitely become buggy and if I could, I would reverse both of the last two updates.
So good.
by Paul75 on 2019/03/09 17:56
Came here from TomTom, after being with them since 2003, only came over because of TT’s recent changes a few years ago, they’ve gone backwards, surely doomed, Google maps has everything, including free traffic updates, which are near perfect, even in quiet roads, where they’d get less mobile phone info, also love the Google Earth view, which I’ve used throughout France, with loss of maps, always had G. Earth view, very useful, also being google, very easy to find shops, petrol stations, places to eat, or even the smallest of businesses. So pleased with this, works well on my Samsung too.
Could be 5 Stars!
by Cav00001 on 2019/12/05 23:33
I travel frequently and have used a variety of different apps and websites to help me. Google is by far the best when it comes to public transport and walking. When it comes to driving however it is not quite there. Firstly there is no speedometer in the iPhone version of the app. Waze has this feature and it makes it so much easier when driving in a new place. Secondly I have come across an issue where on the odd journey the screen will have one set of instructions and the voice instructions tells you something completely different. For this reason I have given it 2 stars. With the speedometer and the occasional wrong voice instructions issue fixed this would be 5 stars and the go to app for all my travelling.
Can’t live without it
by skydog2323 on 2019/03/25 21:39
Been great using google maps over the years. I find the timeline very valuable when doing timesheets and reviewing past journeys. Just like a personal tracker you know where you were on what day and time. The latest version doesn’t seem to log departure and arrival time first thing in the morning and arriving back home dispute Consciously entering postcodes before staring off and maps displaying the journeys finished ??? I am just about to update to the latest release to see if it helps, but still the best navigation app available in my opinion. Keep up the good work.
Virtually bullet proof but new feature for speed camera warnings is unreliable
by Themupster on 2019/02/14 16:27
I have used Google Maps for several years and daily over the past two years with a new job putting me on the road for 800 miles per week. Navigation and re-routing are invaluable, as is the ability to pre-prepare timings to ensure I am never late for a meeting. I’ve always felt it lacking warnings for speed cameras to be an oversight and despite no notification this feature had been recently added, they just appeared. Great, so I thought. However, this is nothing short of useless. Rarely does it pick a camera up, on the odd occasion it does, it can often be just as you have passed one. It may as well announce “congratulations, you’ve just scored three points!” Given the importance of this feature, it needs to be removed until it is totally accurate and can be relied upon. It would also be great to have the speed limit of the road you are on displayed. Hopefully this will be added soon and the speed camera issue resolved.
Good. Not as good as before.
by Updcreative on 2020/01/15 07:32
Traffic data has been a bit glitchy recently - even with a strong 4G signal. Tried refreshing a few times and resorted to using my ‘awful’ Volvo navigation / Apple Maps. Worst pint however, has to be losing the functionality for adding labels - specifically Home and Work. Every time I travel back home or to work, I used to click on the lane and use GMaps for traffic etc - however now it’s lost the labels, I have to manually enter the postcodes - such a faff, most days I don’t bother now. Please fix this. I’m sure it’s apples stupid IOS update that broke it, but it’s core to the UX of GMaps and all the forums are full of complaints.
Real time tracking lagging
by Wizkidx on 2019/10/05 06:21
This app used to work fine but it starting to cause so many issues for me. The map lags behind whilst I make my way towards my destination meaning I have to constantly stop restart it and look at the direction am going. This is dangerous and irritating as I am not able to provide warning to other drivers sooner than what I hope. Please fix this as it’s not just me. Also the pointer that indicates my direction of travel is a joke. It means I have to guess where I am going if the roads are confusing then I can see it it’s the right way. Also, google why don’t you add speed signs on so i know what speed I can travel at. The app is still way better than many in the market but please fix these bugs and I will raise it to 5 star
Really disappointed
by Shulz4life on 2018/06/21 07:58
I have used google maps for years for getting around on public transport, and it’s been great. Now I drive it has somehow got a mind of its own. It doesn’t show the correct position when navigating, and can take up to 15 mins or more to corrrct itself. This is not great and very frustrating when you are driving around thinking you are on the wrong route when you have been on the right one all along. Also it doesn’t talk and give directions like it should do!!! I’ve set it up to do that. I don’t want to continuously have to look down at my phone because it’s not calling out the next instruction or any for that matter. I’ve updated my phone to the latest iOS and I’ve updated google maps. Sort it out please.
Great app but I have some issues
by BizzyB1995 on 2018/11/10 12:13
This app is great and I use it all the time. However I’ve had to start looking for a new app because there are a few things that have started to make it a pain: 1) why can’t I rename favourites? That way I could set up like an address book of places I go to often. 2) there is no speed limit icon. This would masked it far easier to be a safe driver and other apps have it so why not this one? 3) why can I either have no sound or 5 little bits of speech for every direction. Is there no in-between? Or an option to select what I want to hear? Or even just an option for a beep when I need to do something so I know to look at the screen.
Brilliant.. however
by FrancisC88 on 2019/06/13 19:29
I personally have never had a problem using google maps, it’s been perfect every time I’ve used it. However, I’ve just been discussing with a friend that I would love it, if it gave warnings of speed cameras ahead. My friend said his does, and sent me a screen shot of his route home and it shows 3 speed cameras on his route home. So I double checked mine and mine doesn’t show speed cameras? Confusing right? I figured out, if you use the internet version of maps on google rather than the app itself it shows the speed cameras? Why is that?
Please cancel its latest updates
by Ramonna22 on 2019/05/17 11:08
I do not know what is going on with this app! I mean instead of been improved it’s been impaired. Wherever I was or wherever I needed to go, I was relayed on Google Maps. However, these things have affected dramatically its performance: 1. When using “Directions” and you select the option “Driving”, it automatically gives you the fastest route. It does not give you more than an option, neither allows you to change it yourself. 2. When using “Directions” and you select the option “Walking”, then you start the journey, somehow it doesn’t update your location in real time anymore as it used to do. So, now you walk and walk but your location will still appear on the map at the first point where you started. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3. Sometimes it just directs you to a random location. Although you can see on the map where a specific place is, when you use “Directions” it tells you to go either in the opposite way or overpass the desired destination. I’d rather like Google Maps interface amongst the other apps in the same field and I would appreciate if the bugs were fixed. In the meantime, I’ll be using Apple Maps.
LET ME USE THE APP PLEASE !!
by Lousy May on 2019/04/17 07:01
I think the app WOULD BE GREAT however I need it to get from school to home and it says that I have to fill a bill form before even downloading it !!!!! And this is the only app that I think would let me however I don’t know that because your not letting me use the flipping app !! I’m not allowed to spend money of my phone because my dad has put a ... something on it anyway u don’t need to know that. The point that I’m trying to get at is I WOULD SAY THE APP IS GREAT BUT ITS REALLY NOT BECAUSE I CANT USE IT !!!!!!!!! Also get rid of the billing form we have to sign before using google maps. Once again this is the only app that I haven’t tried and it might actually work however I DO NOT KNOW THAT BECAUSE your not letting me use the flipping app !! Oh and by the way I gave this a 1 star ( because it deserves it) your welcome 😊😊.
Google Maps is useless
by 1best boss on 2019/03/05 09:08
Google Maps is totally inaccurate it directs you miles out of your way and through unknown bad roads that are only suitable for livestock, it will still leave miles from your required destination and too add insult to injury businesses and place names that no longer exist are still showing up and worse still in the incorrect spots of the map. Better to buy a real good quality Sat Nav than using this app unless you’ve got money to burn going miles out of your way. Plus there is the danger of using this while driving and the illegal use of mobile device while driving. Google Maps like Google Earth supplies outdated false information. Whoever compiles the information seems too lazy to input the correct information or maybe they haven’t the intelligence to do that.
Best map app, however...
by Rossy the Bossy on 2018/11/02 02:14
About time. This should never have been removed. However here in the UK the address of houses and companies are not very accurate. I would say 85% of places I search for are approx 0.5 to 1 mile from where they are exactly located. For example it says my house is at the other end of our street. Looking for a shop etc it will be half a mile to a mile further up the road than where it is. UPDATE The satnav is excellent and gives good guidance, however it doesn’t know road closures at all. Major bridge closed in one direction, Apple Maps, TomTom know about it but not Google. Speed camera and accurate road closure, speed limits would make this the clear winner.
Do you even deep link bro? 😂
by MrMike1989 on 2018/04/05 22:30
To give this app less than a 5 star review would be preposterous. I mean who are you trying to kid? Like you’re going to find a better satellite navigation app. Having said that, I didn’t actually come here to praise this app, that would be silly, they already know they’re the best. I would instead like to point out one thing that bugs me. Clicking on a Google maps link from safari does not open said location within the app. It just takes you to the App Store lol. I’ve no idea how they’ve messed that up. Quite embarrassing really.

Google Maps, just think about the people with small phones.

by Brown333 on 2020/05/31 09:43
Seems we can no longer copy an address as in full - when you you only get the road.

What happened?
by Herts Hammer on 2020/05/30 10:30
I use Maps on a daily basis. Just recently it has been very poor. Had to uninstall/ reinstall twice in past week. Starting with the irritating American female accent! Poor connection resulting in dropping directions completely while other Apps were working perfectly so not a phone/data/ signal issue. Also been giving some ridiculous Public Transport routes, possibly that’s due to misinformation regarding available services but still not as thorough as in the past

Nope
by banjohair on 2020/05/29 22:22
New update is rubbish. The one tap pin drop is useless and unnecessary. What research was done to establish this as a necessity?? Stop changing for the sake of change. Wish I could reverse update!! Route planning doesn’t show mileage. Why? What reasoning is behind this? Pointless.

by Daveypez on 2020/05/29 14:11
Roads are now invisible in Google Maps because the light colour in the infills doesn’t contrast enough with the white local roads .

I really liked google maps until the latest update of a couple of days ago. It was accurate and I could always rely on it. Now if I look up a destination it’s always several streets out. And every time I try to do street view it just crashes. Not good.

Xx

As useful as the app is (and yes, I think the app is very well designed and great for navigating), it seems to get more use constantly tracking your location (in app or not) for hyper-targeted ads, which disgusts me.

Throttled by Apple?
by Harrold Crumb on 2020/05/12 16:23
Google maps is the best maps app that I can find, they seem to have all the best satellite imagery and traffic info. Sadly though, some of the best features like street view and 3D don’t seem to be available on the iOS version. I assume this is to bring it down to the standard of apples own maps app.

Also the road names stay the same size on enlargement which makes it harder to read?

by Sinoosek on 2020/05/05 13:42
When You set destination, you have to keep an eye on map, otherwise it can reroute you to 50 miles longer drive just to save 2 minutes. It’s not showing every route, many times You have to drive “blind” until it recalculate to proper road. In Carplay I doesn’t allows You to mark spots like police etc. As well in Carplay it resets everytime I connect phone to car, so it forgets destination and saved places. Frustrating!!

Not functioning properly
by not moosic to my ears on 2020/05/02 17:40
Updated May 2020 I’ve had to delete this app.

Bao Han Restaurant Hoi An Vietnam
by Jimmy and Paula on 2019/11/12 12:54
Earlier this year my wife and I and 2 friends stayed just outside the beautiful historic city of Hoi An for 1 week .
Lexus Cardiff
by guvver on 2020/05/19 05:06
What an awesome company, they’ve looked after my Lexus since I purchased it in 2012, it runs as sweet as a nut.
