by Johnbheli on 2021/04/13 06:15
Great app, but we always struggle when using it to walk a route - it’s never clear which direction to set off! Also, it makes poor use of footpaths; preferring to use roads instead. Is the latter an intrinsic problem of Google Maps or a user error?

Quick Tap No Longer Gives Full Screen

Google maps is the best!
by Birdmanof86 on 2021/04/07 21:44
I’ve tried all the other major map apps, this trumps them all for use ability. It’s practical and straight forward to use, and the locations are generally always accurate. Even in uncharted rural locations this will get you to within a half a dozen feet or so to your exact location... can’t fault it 👍
I expected better from Google Maps !
by BIG24FAN on 2021/04/07 14:29
Used Google map first time in ages seeing if it’s any better as it’s no 1 in navigation apps ! But no it not ! In first hour of driving it missed at least one fixed speed camera and didn’t warm of a average camera zone good job I know about it and misreported at least 2 speed limits ! And in first hour of the drive the app locked up the phone and Apple car play screen 4 times and took 20 mins in total to get it working then crashed again so decided to go back to Waze and for the next 3 hours of the drive no problems on a Zoe ze50 and iPhone XS Max ! Waze is so much feature rich and warms of more than google map did !
Still missing features
by Akgoyal420 on 2021/04/07 06:49
The app ia missing features. I can't believe that google hasn't implemented YouTube music into the navigation media control but has apple music in there??

The “Blurring Wars “ begin !!
by F1ddlest1x on 2021/04/01 11:40
It would seem in these times of Covid-19 when business is difficult, opposition can go in & “Blur” out your premises without as much as a question & no means to reinstate. If they can see your premises from their front door they can tactfully blur out your property leaving their own in full view! In our area we are starting to logo the roofs so the can be seen fro Google Earth which they do not have rights over

Street view is now ruined!!!
by Xxdmh on 2021/03/21 06:13
I used to love looking around London in Street View mode, but now it’s been ruined by the fact that you have photographed many streets from the pavement. This means when I try to look at the buildings on that side of the road I am SO CLOSE to them that I cannot see the buildings and when I look at the buildings on the opposite side of the street that are now too far away and often obscured completely by the traffic! I don’t know who thought this was a good idea but it’s not!!! It’s ruined what was a brilliant feature of this app! PLEASE GO BACK TO THE OLD METHOD OF PHOTOGRAPHING THE STREETS OF LONDON, FROM THE ROAD ITSELF!!!

Add ability to disable pin drops
by peanut.gallery on 2021/03/16 15:58
Better than the map app my phone comes with, but it is infuriating when I'm trying to swipe around on the map to look for a route and it disruptively drops red pins everywhere, demanding I add notes etc. I am not asking to get rid of pins, but please make it possible to switch this function on/off, or make them a double-tap function so it's harder to pepper one's map with erroneous red blobs. Please please please!
Deleted app. Lack of privacy transparency.
by JeL1010 on 2021/03/16 08:16
Google doesn’t want to update this app (as of March 2021) so we can see the privacy labels. No doubt due to them hiding the shocking amount of data they want to process for me to use a map app. Removed.

I saw Andre for neck problem had for the last 50 years. The neck muscle spasm had become ever more painful and I had very limited ability to turn my head left or right. I had over the years visited osteopaths, chiropractors and acupuncturists without improvement. Then after visiting Andre for four sessions the condition greatly improved. I was suddenly able to turn my head freely. I cannot recommend Andre enough. He is a very nice guy to talk to and has a good knowledge of anatomy, nutrition and anatomy. Anytime I am in the area I am keen to visit Andre.

Needs to edit routes!
by afkbois on 2021/03/10 09:12
Does the job but there should be a feature that like on apple maps you can avoid toll booths you should be able to avoid width or weight restricted roads, so many smaller roads local and I’d rather not meet some pleb gunning it at 90 down a farm lane because the maps thought it was 0.08th of a second quicker, or for it to at least tell you so you don’t turn up to the turning and see it’s a hair witdth wider than your car, absolutely ridiculous

by GC1011!"£$%^&*() on 2021/03/05 12:29
The tinkering of developers is not likely to ever end. Sometimes, most times, things will improve. Not so with Googla Maps. It seems bloated and what used to be easy loading of maps is cumbersome. And any map that replaces a local name - Inverleith district in Edinburgh - with a never used Gaelic name is ridiculous. Anyway, back to using the poor, but less so, Apple maps.

by CFall555 on 2021/03/05 00:00
An update needs to be made to add in addresses in Edinburgh streets such as Duntreath Place as there are new built houses and people living in them. Can no longer just have a full screen map? Used to be able to do so. Icons cause burn in on OLED screens - no way to hide or minimise them. Will send you to the end of a dead road before telling you to u-turn. It used to tell you to “u-turn when possible”. It just keeps getting worse.

Brilliant app but need to clarify the Avoid Tolls setting
by Piers N on 2021/02/23 13:56
This is a truly indispensable app, saving us from countless potential rows in the car! However, the ‘Avoid Toll’ setting doesn’t seem to take the Congestion Charge zone into consideration (at least not in London). As a matter of fact, we found we had to disobey what we were being told, as the app’s directions would have taken us right into it. This meant having to find somewhere to pull up and get our bearings, which isn’t always ideal or safe. Other than this particular issue, the app is absolutely brilliant.

by ym27 on 2021/02/22 20:09
Delete this app now - Google is trying to worm its way around Apple's new privacy policies and hasn't been able to update this app in nearly three months for iOS users. Google is showing its true colours and not even hiding its contempt for iOS users who have used their products in good faith for years. Use Apple Maps instead. Apple isn't selling or making a profit from your data.

Wary of location data miners
by Nutra D on 2021/02/20 10:43
Paragraph added on 20.2.2021: This review of my Google Maps experience has been blocked for a year by US monopolistic corporation Apple in order to cover up for a known corrupt massively CIA and NSA funded corporation called Google. Apple and Google are clearly in bed together, so Apple has clearly discriminated against me by blocking my review when they have allowed many other negative reviews of Google Maps and other companies apps. Even Apple is part of the same military/industrial/serveillance complex as Google, because Apple bought much of its iPhone tech from the US military, so the iPhone is really a US military mass surveillance and tracking device. Apple favours Google in many ways over other smaller tech firms and wields monopolistic power over them, but not fellow monopoly Google. Apple didn’t like it when I told in my review how Google Maps REMOVED SIX OF MY NINE GOOGLE REVIEWS ABOUT ABUSES PERPETRATED ON ME BY BRITISH LAWYERS, POLICE AND COMPANIES, but they allowed my review anyway. But when I later added to my review the documented fact that Google was seed funded by the CIA, Apple monitors took it upon themselves to censor me Communist style and they not only blocked the addition, they also removed the previous review that they had previously passed! Why do that? Am I an Apple customer or do you consider me a product like Google? Why did you cover up for Google, who covered up for many corrupt British lawyers, police and companies? I know that many US tech firms have been seed funded by the CIA, not only Google. Why have you blocked my honest review of a company that blocked SIX of my truthful reviews of corrupt organisations who have abused me? That makes you too corrupt. By the way, I do not agree to your 19 page, one-sided, tyrannical Terms and Conditions that you manipulate “customers” into agreeing to AFTER THEY HAVE ALREADY SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON YOUR PRODUCTS! You sell them expensive products, then you try to get them to agree to megalomaniac, rights stealing, power grabbing conditions. YOU CANNOT DO THAT! YOUR 19 PAGE TERMS AND CONDITIONS ARE NOT VALID! I DO NOT AGREE TO 19 PAGES OF CONDITIONS THAT I DIDN’T EVEN READ! Review of Google Maps first posted then removed by Apple over a year ago: What I noticed while using the app was that when I logged out and used it, I started getting ads from a taxi operator. This tells me my personalised log-in data coupled with my location data over time is very valuable to Google, like gold. So they don’t bother with the ads when you’re logged in. But when I logged out, they felt they had to monetise me in some other way. The personal and location data compromise with Google is far too much for me to use this app long term. I trust Apple and Apple Maps much more with my privacy. Google really prefer you to be logged in when you use the app, but it’s not necessary. I also found they encouraged (or one could say “tricked”) me to set location to “always on”, rather than “while using the app” using the reason that I would receive up to the minute traffic information. But the traffic info was perfectly OK even when location was only on while using the app, so I think it is highly questionable of Google to encourage us to have location always on. No way is this app as “free” as it appears. The app used my search and location data to encourage me to write reviews of places I’d been, yet while using the app I found out Google Maps staff had deleted SIX out of my nine truthful and factual reviews, without notification, telling me the reasons and deliberately without any way to contact them to question their actions. They were covering up abuses including fraud and perjury I had experienced from British police, lawyers and companies by doing this.

The best all round mapping app
by Chris hevey on 2020/11/19 14:34
I find the quality of the maps to be pretty good, although the colour contrast could be better on my desktop PC. Fine on iOS. Streetview is extremely useful for many things, not least checking out a place before you go there. The biggest thing for me is the richness and quality of the pin data. This is particularly good as a lot of it is crowdsourced from the public who can add new things and edit mistakes. I’ve compared areas I know well with the other mainstream mapping apps like Apple and Bing and google wins hands-down. I’ve had timeline turned on for a few years now and find it really useful and interesting. Perhaps that’s not ideal for people who are paranoid about google knowing where you go though. I personally don’t care. One annoyance is having edits rejected by people or machines who clearly don’t know the area. I know it’s wrong! I live here / was just standing there! It took three attempts to change a car park’s address from “Burger Bar, Church St.....” Madness! The app could do with a field where you can leave a note for the reviewer.
Great. But beware the ‘AVOID TOLLS’ option! 😡

Always rely on Google Maps when we’re in the US, and especially liked the ‘Avoid Tolls’ option when you’re in a rental car and don’t want a hefty admin fee from the agency for going through a cashless toll. However I discovered last week that it’s not reliable - drove from Ohio to Staten Island NY with ‘avoid tolls’ selected, no warnings/pop-ups to say anything to the contrary, only to find ourselves at a $15 bridge toll to get over to Staten Island. Turns out there is no way to avoid a toll on to the island, fair enough, but if that’s the case PLEASE GOOGLE can you give us some notification of this when we select the route? I could easily have gone to an ATM and got the money before we got there if I’d known, but the only mention of the toll is hidden away down in the route description, and the top of it still says ‘avoid tolls’. No warnings whatsoever. So I’m now looking at a hefty fine/admin fee that would have been entirely avoidable if the nav info had been more accurate. Yes I know that all New Yorkers are aware there’s a toll, but it was a last minute trip and I trusted google maps to just avoid the tolls if that’s what was selected, or tell me if it wasn’t possible. For future updates, the difference between cash and cashless tolls would be useful info, so we could avoid cashless tolls, but use cash tolls, as that’s what most people out of state are worried about.

Too many mistakes in the navigation system! The application try to lead me into one way roads. Shows me “turn right” many times on places where i am not allowed to turn. Front of the Tower Bridge there are 3(!) mistakes too. For example the cars are not allowed to turn right from the Byward street to the Tower Bridge. I see many tourist every day do this mistake with rented cars because of the google maps and in this cross it is very dangerous maneuver. I do not like the Waze. Slower and looks confuseing compare the google maps. I still want to use this app but you should fix this issues asap because there are many around London. Please update your system more often. This is the most populare navigation system on the word. Please handel this fact with responsibility.
Currently the best maps app
by lntghll on 2020/02/12 09:48
I use maps primarily in the car as satnav through apple CarPlay. I used apple maps for years because it’s clean, reliable and just generally a very good app. I tried google maps along with a couple of other apps e.g. waze because I wanted some feedback about the traffic around me. Apple maps will advise new routes if there’s traffic but I doesn’t give you much more info, this keeps the app clean but it’s not what I wanted. Google maps has a very simple but game changing feature for me, and that’s the active alternative route information. It will actively show other routes with the estimated time when taking the route, this not only allows me to anticipate traffic and take another route but it’s also enabled me to become more familiar with the areas I drive around regularly. I’ve been using google maps now for over a year, and while there isn’t much difference in terms of functionality compared to Apple maps and waze, it just has some nice extra features which I couldn’t be without. The interface isn’t as nice as apple maps, but the demo icon/arrow when driving and using as satnav is more accurate and the graphic makes it much easier to understand where you are on the road and what exits you need to take, especially welcome on busy UK roundabouts.

After reading some of the reviews I feel compelled to also to write about my experiences with Google Maps. I am currently working as a delivery driver and completely rely on Google Maps specifically for areas that I am not familiar with or have never been before. Most of the time I can be navigated right to the front door of my sat nav journey but the biggest majority of the time Google Maps Satellite navigation system takes me in the exact opposite direction of where I want to go , it also has really big difficulties in connecting to its source and I find that I’m either being told to turn either ahead of actual turning point too soon or too late and then have to perform a complicated u turn on a really busy road , Google Maps is also very very guilty of taking you a longer route to the desired destination , and Google Maps always has me turning up and down streets on to roads of on coming traffic as it’s clueless to any of the one way systems in GLASGOW’s city Centers . I fell that Google Maps Satellite Navigation free app is not being updated or monitored enough and it’s just a matter of time before seriously injuring someone or killing them as road traffic is dangerous enough without an inaccurate liability thrown in to the mix of Glasgow towns busy road systems.
Worst navigation ever
by Xenia1125 on 2018/11/19 06:52
Not just that it doesn’t show all the bigger routes that can be useable but don’t shows alternatives when you find yourself in front of a road close. Stopped at a petrol station, and after it’s just changed the way and instead to take me home after a 200 miles drive it took me around the town from the other side of the city. Also why the hell does the map starts to rolling around at a junction of the motorway, out of the town, on a difficult road just because the blue line that shows where you have to go crossing itself, so you are not jus unable to see the route properly but also have to improvise until it starts to work again and it gives you 10 minutes extra to your travel time. Getting frozen and turns around just without any reason and shows you going to the wrong way When you have to leave from a crossroads it’s freeze and not telling to turn to the right or to the left, but obviously you can’t wait until it’s fixed because cars behind you, so you turn into a road and than you will se that’s the wrong way so have to drive again extra time When you need to move from a destination to another that’s actually like 200 yard behind you in a different street, this app not going to offer you to turn around but gonna drive you all around and drop you nearly where you just have been It’s a terrible terrible app and caused me tons of stress while I was driving and I’m not going to use it anymore
Something has gone wrong.
by Tgt1977 on 2018/11/02 17:54
I use google maps on most journeys, even routes I know well as I like to know the ETA. Recently when I tell it to take me home, using my saved locations, its shows my home on the map, I tell it to start guidance and then it picks a random point on the map and starts directing me there. The other day for my 15min drive home it wanted to take me to central London, which is two hours away. Today it got me most of the way home before telling me to take a turning I don’t usually take, I followed it as I assumed it was because of some blockage ahead. By the time I worked out it was taking me to another random point on the map, I had driven for the 20 minutes estimated to get home only for me to discover I had been guided to a town half an hour from home. This is an unacceptable glitch which could be considered dangerous, if panicked drivers try to make alterations whilst driving. Please sort this bug out.
Bugs since update
by Jykl91 on 2019/05/19 19:03
Original review: I was a big fan of Google maps as it was so useful for travelling. However, since the most recent update I've noticed an annoying bug. When you click a business it comes up with reviews from the previous business that you pressed - not the current one. I.e. it does not update. Very annoying - please fix. Update: I have cleared the cache and restarted my phone as suggested. Unfortunately, the problem still persists. When you click on a few locations, all show the same review as the first location that you clicked. In order to see the relevant reviews for the current location you have to close the app but the issue then repeats. Prior to the recent update it used to do the same for photos ie. It would occasionally show the same photos for different businesses when you clicked on 'photos'. However, since the latest update this has been fixed, but the issue now applies to reviews instead.
Gets bus stops wrong and walking paths, otherwise it’s ok
by Kat.Scientist on 2020/01/22 14:45
I have always used google maps but lately I’m finding it to be extremely frustrating. Today I wasted 40 mins of my time going back and fourth because google maps got the bus stop wrong. Bus 425 does not stop at bus stop HA near Homerton hospital (London) by the way. Also it would tell me to leave at a certain time to walk to a bus stop and I would be waiting at the bus stop for the bus to come and then it would say the bus has already been. I look at other people to confirm that I didn’t miss the bus and the bus ends up not coming at all or is 3 mins delayed. Another time google maps provided a route on foot but part of the route was actually to walk through the walls of a building. How is that possible? - I’m not a ghost! The building looked like it had been there sometime. All I can say is, google maps needs to try update things at a quicker rate if possible.
Please add a hgv part to this app🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
by dannyt67 on 2020/02/08 08:34
I love Google maps and would never go to a different navy system. It's clear, quick and very easy to use. It gives you all the info you need to have a safe journey. But, I now have my hgv licence and am looking for a good navigation system to use. One that could take the vehicle details and work out the best routes that avoid, weight limits, height and width restrictions. Green zones and also takes the vehicles speed limit into account. Maybe also tell you how long you have been driving for and when you need to take a break and for how long. Add a little hgv tab where the car, train, bike and walk bits are to open the hgv bit. If you could do this then you would continue to make me a very happy Google maps user
Staff are life savers

I am an NHS keyworker and found myself in Newquay today. I had to take my dad for a scan at the hospital. My dad then said I could use his car to drive back to Exeter. As I got in his car to drive back in the rain I found one of the wiper blades was broken. I knew there was a Kwik fit just around the corner. I arrived there and ran in the door only to be told that they had closed at 5pm. Nik Curnow the manager that they would open again in the morning. After explaining my dilemma and informed him that I needed to get back to Exeter for work. Nik then said he would fit a new wiper blade. Nik and and whole team are real life savers and I am eternally grateful and appreciate the fact that they did not have to help but still did it anyway. Thank you so much guys
Are they experimenting for lemming behaviour??
by Maria S1 on 2019/12/14 15:00
I often use google maps to find locations and routes. But more and more, I’m finding that it directs me to longer or convoluted routes where, by simply looking at the map, I can find quicker and shorter routes. The best example I can quote: I used it to find a location and the best routes to get there from my, then, current location. It suggested that I walk to a bus stop then take a specific bus. Fair enough. I walked to the bus stop. I then checked the route again from my ‘new current location’. Guess what! It suggested that I walk to the NEXT bus stop on the same route and take the same bus! The SAME bus, as in, not just the same number, the same physical bus with the same schedule!!! I decided to ignore it, took the bus from where I was and that was that. This is one example of many similar incidents, where it is very obvious there’s no sound logic to get you where you wish to go. I genuinely feel there’s something more to their algorithm; like, if we tell people to go in obvious circles, would they do it? Do they follow directions blindly losing all sense of their spatial surroundings? Are people developing a lemming- or sheep-like behaviour? That would certainly make a very interesting study, but I don’t remember signing up to it. It come at costing people time to get places. It’s not harmless. I now tend to ignore most recommendations or inspect them and check for myself before taking google maps’ recommendations.
Disappointed
by A Copper on 2020/10/26 07:54
Bills is one of our favourite breakfast places in Southampton, alongside Santo lounge and Stakks, but yesterday we had a breakfast, that only be described as average, prepared in advance (we had 4 breakfast, 2 garden plate and 2 full English, top 2 on the menu). Service was great, can’t fault it, but food wasn’t. It took less than 10min to come out, which surprised us, given the fact that the place was packed at 11:30am, but once we started eating it made sense it had been prepared in advance. My advice to Bill, if you care to listen, I know the times are hard but don’t change your style, cook it fresh, I’m sure majority of your customers would rather have waited and got a hot plate full of awesomeness rather than what was served to us . At £20 per head we would not rush back. We didn’t complain as we could see that front of house we’re doing an amazing job and were rushed off their feet.
Route planning fails
by Liveonelee on 2020/09/16 20:52
I’m a courier and I rely on google maps all the time when going from drop to drop in areas I’m not familiar with, I’ve always raved about it’s reliability up until now, when I’m route mode it often flashes up I’ve arrived when in actual fact I’m miles away from my destination so I tap continue and it tells me I’ve arrived at my next destination which is even further away then it does it again, I’ve had to go back to doing individual stops again as I find I can’t rely on route planning anymore, please google sort this out it’s been going on now for some time, the other issue is CarPlay integration, it’s shocking, from time to time it’ll just crash and shutdown, other times I will stop at a drop, turn off the ignition and when I come back moments later I have to input all my stops AGAIN!! Sort it out google!!!
Something’s gone wrong
by josieandnala on 2019/04/13 16:57
I used to use google maps as I felt it was super reliable but recently some strange things have been happening. Along a guided route it will randomly change your position as though you were half a mile away and subsequently reroute in error. Also, again while in a guided route if you search for an extra stop such as a petrol station, after the results come up it doesn’t let you return to the route guidance regardless of what you press on the screen. You have to close the app and relaunch and re-enter your original destination which is a pain to have to do. Sometimes when you want to search for a new destination the screen freezes on the map and nothing you press works. And lastly at junctions the screen starts to rotate as though it’s disoriented resulting in you being unsure of what exit to take. There are too many glitches google! Please fix as some of your loyal users will start to look for alternative apps that are more reliant like waze!
Google maps default is to change the route when you have set a preference
by slashermct on 2020/02/08 07:45
Decide to go for a ride off highways on my motorcycle. Set preferred route plus avoid highways and start riding. Almost instantly Google maps ‘finds’ a highway route which is shorter or more efficient and puts a prompt to tell me that unless I tell it again it will change my route from a preference I have already set. I have a few seconds to pull over, remove my gloves, get the phone out of it’s holder and tell it not to do that. No time to do all that so it switches route. It’s the same even in the car. I often don’t have time to alter the prompt when I see it because my priority is actually driving. It’s quite simple. If I have set a don’t use highways preference then DON’T USE HIGHWAYS. If I picked a route from alternatives THEN USE THE ROUTE I PICKED! I don’t mind the prompt telling me of traffic changing but if I have made a choice then the default answer should be to do what I told it to do already.
WestGate Kwik Fit to the rescue again!
by school run Granny on 2020/08/14 19:16
As a long term customer of this particular Kwik Fit branch on Westgate Road in Newcastle upon Tyne I have, over the last 17 years, never failed to be impressed by their attitude to customer service and care and their impressive ability to sort out car issues from the serious to the mundane... So, praise where praise is due to all the team who have once again helped me to maintain and repair my Kia Sedona and to keep it - plus my family of Grandchildren and me- safely on the road with a rapid repair and new MOT. I can’t thank them enough and would like to say that in my opinion the 5 stars above are not anywhere near enough! Well done Westgate team, you are all a credit to the Kwik Fit company Kind regards Anita Banks
Status bar disappears
by mapissues123 on 2019/03/19 18:15
This has gone from 5 stars to 3 - and that’s being generous. Here’s why: Whilst using the app once I have started the journey there is the status bar at the bottom of the screen showing the ETA and number of miles remaining etc. If I then touch the map to look ahead and see if there is traffic, or move to a different part of the map, or move the scale in or out, the status bar at the bottom disappears. The only way to get it back is to force close the app and enter the destination in again and start all over. Occasionally it will come back if The journey re-routes or search for something using the search button. But everything disappears including the re-centre button. This has been happening since the last update. I am running and iPhone 6S. I have the latest version of iOS and Google Maps.
Bao Han Restaurant Hoi An Vietnam

Earlier this year my wife and I and 2 friends stayed just outside the beautiful historic city of Hoi An for 1 week . Close to our hotel , north of the town we stumbled apon the Bao Han whilst going for an evening walk . The restaurant is small but the owners and staff could not have been more welcoming . We didn’t know what to order from the extensive menu so Phi the lovely owner and maitre’d helped us chose the best seasonal options . The food was fantastic . The best Vietnamese seafood we had in our whole trip (including some fancy city restaurants in Saigon and Hanoi ) I would highly recommend this restaurant to everybody . We would love to come back and see you again Many thanks for the delicious food Jimmy and Paula London England
Version 4.38
by Foggy headlight on 2017/11/03 12:10
Please remove everything added to this update back to how the previous version was. This new "preview" element is the most useless thing ever. I don't want to "preview" I want to "Go". You are not able to use multi stop function any longer, only in preview mode which is terrible. The screen times out alongside iPhone screensaver rather than being on all the time whilst in the app like previously. The map has stopped automatically moving when your own gps point has moved and you have to manually move yourself (very dangerous if you're driving). It is hard to get it out of compass direction and to follow your own direction automatically. It has removed the ability to see arrival time has been removed, the distance and time to destination doesn't show in preview mode, the distance countdown to the next turn etc has been removed. I would like to navigate to multiple points, not preview them. Please change this!
Not as good as it was in earlier versions
by Bridster45 on 2020/05/12 06:42
The app is not really that bad. With a good data connection, there are few issues with the overall operation of the app. The current issues are quite minor but noticeable. Firstly, which may be due to the increasing presence of roadworks and road closures, the app takes some very interesting detours which are not direct by any means, and often are pointless as the roads have reopened hours beforehand! The second thing I’ve noticed, is at the top of the iPhone where the time, battery and cellular signal strength are shown quite often revert to black, which makes them almost impossible to see. They would be a lot better to be displayed in contrasting white all the time to remain visible. If these issues are rectified, the app will regain at least an additional star.
Maps good, UI a mess
by OrsonX on 2020/09/26 09:49
The maps are brilliant and it’s great the green places are now once again green, and not washed out gray. BUT the app itself is a mess! Every time I use it the interface is different. Today I am swiping like a maniac from the side to access the hidden menu, nope, the menu is now hidden in a completely new unintuitive way! I wanted to d/l an offline map, finally figured it out. Then I wanted to delete old offline maps, nope, nowhere to be found (well actually I did find some “saved maps”, but my newly downloaded map wasn’t there and I couldn’t delete what was there). I also looked for Settings, where user info (& the cache) used to be. Can’t find that. The app has too many overlays and context specific menus, I don’t need to know the temperature or a review of the crossroads I’m standing at.
Problems with car play.
by Juneyse on 2018/10/07 09:38
Hi google. Hope you see this. Got a few problems with google maps on car play. When I’m navigating using google maps, if I get a txt come through my car play will read the txt and then the screen goes back to google maps....but the navigation has stopped. I have to come out of maps and then back in, then suddenly the nav is working again. Also, if I use Siri to do something...let’s say set a reminder for myself. If I’m using google maps, after using Siri, it goes back to google maps (where nav has stopped again!)then goes back to the home screen. I then have to start the nav all over again. This is just two things, my friends are having same issues plus other issues. I know google maps is new to car play, so hopefully things will get sorted soon.
Google maps running behind other navigation maps
by Optional1379 on 2019/01/27 00:14
After all these years still no speed limit, also you need to ad more alternative route options so the driver can choose between rounds and not have the only route option by google, this used to be better with previous versions and I find it’s just got worse with updates, Google’s route option not always the best option. Also another thing to note is when music is playing google will mute the music completely for directions instead of heaving the option to just fade it like TomTom navigation which allows you to set the voice instructions as a percentage of the music volume, doesn’t need to be completely muted it’s just annoying. Common google sort it out, common sense here. For this reason you get 3* from me.
Weird stuff creeping in
by Charlie merrell on 2018/07/06 18:06
I used to rely 100% on Google Maps but recently it seems to have become far less reliable. I’ve just been on a journey where I selected the optional route and pressed start and ended up on the default route anyway. Last week, the app took me off the motorway (leave at exit xyz) routed me next to the motorway (that was flowing freely) for 3 or 4 miles then put me back on. It then only flagged my junction when I was level with it so I missed it, then the alternative route that it said had a 4 minute delay, added 30 minutes to my journey despite me only being 3 minutes from the hold-up. My kids have started to make the same comments. Has something changed? Or has Apple done something now that they are finally trying to develop a decent map? I might be trying other apps anywayz
Why can’t Google maps get my address PIN on the map correct?
by percylongprong on 2018/05/17 04:56
Google maps cannot even place my address so any directions are wrong. I have asked them for years and they show a photo of a block of flats an d say this is my house!!! They insist my house position is 741 London Road. There is no such number (I believe as this was demolished years ago) and this land in Brambleside corner of Hammersley road is now Latter Day Saints church!!! Every now and then for 30+ years I have told them. The google map car came down Brambleside Cul de Sac and took photos of Broderick House, a block of flats like the other 6 Blocks all with numbers 1 to 6 on the name plate and made that my house. Visitors that come to see me I have to give the postcode of HP11 1LE which is a block of flats. Come on Google I will be dead soon Speak to me via email/phone and ask where you are going wrong..I want to give a minus one star but YOU have already placed a ONE star which I cannot remove.. What an awesome company, they’ve looked after my Lexus since I purchased it in 2012, it runs as sweet as a nut. I’m impressed every time I visit there, the welcome, the superb attentiveness, and the overall experience of knowing your car is receiving the ultimate in health checks, you even have a video of the servicing. Wow, it makes one feel safe. Yesterday Dave Short looked after me, he made everything easy and smooth, as I’m 73yrs little things are important, the place was spotless and proper distancing was in place, all went seamlessly, so thank you Dave, you’re a star ! I’ll be back for my next service, by the way I fell in love with that gorgeous new Lexus...... I’ll be back when I win the lottery. Xx
One of the most useful apps you can download. But ugly app icon...
by RyanNappi on 2019/01/27 22:24
I use this app every single day. Not just for navigation but for finding local services, planning trips in advance, finding hotels and restaurants, Reading reviews, writing reviews and the list goes on. Google Maps is in that small group of apps that are irreplaceable and truly make our lives easier. The only thing I’d change is the app icon itself. Google’s other app icons are so simple and clean. I know Maps is a whole business unit in itself and is a very big deal within Google... but the red pin on a white background would be a confident and understated way to design the icon.
Penalty charge
by zingo UK on 2018/12/04 16:10
Dear google map I love your app it’s very useful and has helped me almost every day however I have just received a penalty charge for £60 from Manchester City council because I was driving in Manchester City centre as I needed to pick up my Girlfriend from national express bus station on Portland street as I was following the directions from your map not knowing that it’s only for buses not cars , could please update places like that or use a different route for car drivers like me on places like these to avoid the penalty charges , I would like to thank you in advance if you could do that so we do not have to go through the same problem again as I was directed to go through that route .
Good
by Tiny poppy11111111111 on 2019/11/11 12:08
I really love this app for walking, its clear and it’s features enable you to find the direction by using the camera. I’m this respect it’s so much better than apple maps as it’s not confusing in the slightest. Additionally, the estimated time arrival is very accurate and the directions for other public transport is great. However, for drivers this app is absolutely not worth it. You can’t beat apple maps. It doesn’t follow the car and you have to continuously scroll to keep up with the directions which is dangerous when driving. Also, it doesn’t keep centred, sometimes it will be upside down, which makes it so confusing. Every time I’ve used it when I’m driving I have had to pull over and change to apple maps.
No street view?
by rocket soup on 2019/08/20 13:21
Where has street view gone? I can’t get street view anymore when I click on a road, I can only get it by clicking on a location like a restaurant and go from there but that’s not very useful because if I travel to far down the road in street view the screen goes black or is pixelated so you can’t see anything. I guess this is a bug but I would expect an update the same or next day to fix this considering google is 1 of the biggest companies in the world with millions of users daily using google maps. It’s now been a week or more and still no fix. Cmon google
Bug in the system?
by bigdaddi67 on 2017/12/23 09:06
Never ever had a problem till last night. Map kept telling me to go off the main road and choose a parallel road and every time, it ended up as a dead end? It was late at night and foggy so couldn’t see the dead ends till I drove a little. One route even wanted me to drive through, not around, a public park! I was met with a closed gate given the late hour! Not sure why this happened as you’ve always been reliable but when I used another 3rd party map service, the ETA dropped by almost 10 mins for a 4 mile journey. I can imagine it was the ‘short cuts’ it was suggesting but none planned out. One even suggested driving down an alleyway behind a row of houses. I know you collect data from Maps as I can see a lot of info is recorded in the background. If you need more of my details to investigate the route I took yesterday, happy to provide if that helps.
Simply the best and most up to date map
by m1tchec on 2019/06/08 21:21
Got to say I'm always sceptical of the big players and their apps but this is simply the next app for directions out there! The maps are up to date and stay on even when 3G coverage is intermittent. If there is one thing missing it's speed limits for the road you're on. Apart from that this is so much better than any paid app and compared to waze it stays on the route and gives so many options as you drive for other routes. Still waiting for the map to show speed and speed limits. Waze has it so do many others. Come on Google please add this feature
PLEASE get rid of “explore local area”
by Antarctica71 on 2019/03/23 12:47
Great app, but one thing about it really annoys me, and it pops up every time I open the app. I normally open it in a hurry to check traffic to wherever I’m going, and straightaway “explore (local area)” pops up. I have to close it to have the full map view without it. I appreciate that some people may like it and use it a lot, but other people hate it. Could we not have a choice of whether to turn this feature on or off? If I want to explore the local area I will search specifically for this, but it is rarely the case for me as mostly I just want to go to a particular place and want to check directions for that. I don’t want it popping up wasting my time whenever I open the app. PLEASE can you fix this? Thank you.
Angers me
by Catherine bae on 2020/06/24 00:06
Look, this app is good, I can’t lie. However I always delete it when I have no storage left in my phone. So, picture this. You’re on a road trip with your friends, you want to get to a location. You simply go to your safari, type in google maps & type in the location you want to get to. It then suggests you get the app. You try to download it but you feel the pressure and build up of the slow, agonising wait for the app to download while in the back of your mind, you’re thinking ‘This is going to inhale all of my data’. Not only that, it takes AGES for the app to actually download. That’s all I have to say about it. Just let me do my thing on the inter-webs google maps :/
Motorbike mode?
by Dextergregor on 2020/08/12 07:43
Still one of, if not the best, navigation app out there. I have one suggestion for improvements though. I’m a motorcyclist and often have my phone mounted on the handlebar for navigation. However, the always lit up phone screen can often be a distraction as it attracts the eye more often than is required (i.e. I only need to glance at the screen when approaching junctions or roundabouts). What I suggest is to introduce a “motorcyclist mode” where the screen lock is active to reduce rider distraction. However as the vehicle approaches a junction, highway exit, roundabout etc, a simple full screen pictorial direction shows up. The screen would then revert to its locked mode afterwards. This would improve rider attention and therefore safety. It would also have the added benefit of conserving battery power. I know motorcyclists are probably a small demographic compared to the total population of google maps users, but I suspect even drivers would appreciate such a functionality.
No traffic updates
by CB28015 on 2020/07/16 13:42
I have used Google Maps for a number of years in the UK and most of the time it is okay. However recently it has not updated me about significant route impacts. One time I looked for directions from St Albans to Oxford. Unfortunately the M40 was closed between to junctions I needed. Not only did it pick a bad route (M40 was closed before I left St Albans), it did not notify me during the journey and also failed to redirect me when I had to exit the M40 and kept telling me to go back to the closed section. This has happened more than once. Will be switching to an app where these road updates do happen as it’s frustrating being late for work/events which could have easily been avoided by earlier notification.
Fantastic company

We just wanted to let you know how happy we are with our garden and wanted to say thank you. The team of lads we had working on it were superb with a first class attitude. They had some rain to contend with but were always on time, friendly, organised, enthusiastic and ensuring we were happy with everything they were doing at every stage. Danny is an excellent team leader and was always happy to answer any questions we raised. Danny and the team are an absolute credit to your company, and we will highly recommend your services to friends and family. Thanks again.
Can’t live without it
by skydog2323 on 2019/03/25 21:39
Been great using google maps over the years. I find the timeline very valuable when doing timesheets and reviewing past journeys. Just like a personal tracker you know where you were on what day and time. The latest version doesn’t seem to log departure and arrival time first thing in the morning and arriving back home dispute Consciously entering postcodes before staring off and maps displaying the journeys finished ??? I am just about to update to the latest release to see if it helps, but still the best navigation app available in my opinion. Keep up the good work.
Great app as always, but....
by Pr1te5h on 2019/05/02 21:23
Google has always been king of maps. Much better than Apple maps. Lots of awesome features added over the years, and more recently the addition of 'location sharing'...similar to find my friends. However, this location sharing has a few bugs they need to iron out... 1. It takes AGES to locate someone. Much longer than find my friends. 2. When I force it to refresh the location status of someone, it basically does nothing. 3. It seems it is unable to locate anyone if that other person is using their devices GPS for their own needs (I tried to track my wife's progress as she drove through France last month, and it only seemed to update whilst she had stopped at services...when she was actually driving and using google maps for navigation, it never updated...I had to use fiend my friends instead to see where she was). I'm so pleased google have added this feature as I would prefer to use google vw find my friends...but I need the above bugs to be fixed before I can fully rely on it.
What’s with the janky frame rate?
by Christopher Stott on 2019/04/15 06:19
Horrible to use, scrolling and zooming is so choppy, slow and laggy that I’m just going back to apple maps until this is fixed. Don’t know about other issues reported as I didn’t get that far, I just can’t use an app with such a laggy interface. Update: I tried the fix provided in Google’s response to my review. It helped, and the app is usable again, but it’s still not smooth. The frame rate is still poor compared to apple maps (and compared to every other app I use) and it creates an uncomfortable jittery effect when scrolling. I’m pretty sure that back when the iPhone maps app used google data is was fine, and I have an iPhone XS so processing power definitely isn't an issue.
Location Accuracy not working anymore
by deesto on 2019/10/29 08:53
Since your last two software updates, the accuracy in London is terrible on an iPhone XR and XS for some reason. It seems fine on the country side. But in London It’s never quite triangulated with the GPS signals or the motion sensor enough, so google maps is always half lost. As a driver I am Not noticing this issue with Waze nor Uber maps, for example (so I know it’s not my phone, and have compared the issue with a brand new phone from a friend’s). This was a brilliant app before. Please fix it! I also noticed the speed cameras were gone and the maps showing half the roads at some point, just like other users mentioned. I think this may have now been fixed though, perhaps. But the app has definitely become buggy and if I could, I would reverse both of the last two updates.
So good.
by Paul75 on 2019/03/09 17:56
Came here from TomTom, after being with them since 2003, only came over because of TT’s recent changes a few years ago, they’ve gone backwards, surely doomed, Google maps has everything, including free traffic updates, which are near perfect, even in quiet roads, where they’d get less mobile phone info, also love the Google Earth view, which I’ve used throughout France, with loss of maps, always had G. Earth view, very useful, also being google, very easy to find shops, petrol stations, places to eat, or even the smallest of businesses. So pleased with this, works well on my Samsung too.
Virtually bullet proof but new feature for speed camera warnings is unreliable
by Themupster on 2019/02/14 16:27
I have used Google Maps for several years and daily over the past two years with a new job putting me on the road for 800 miles per week. Navigation and re-routing are invaluable, as is the ability to pre-prepare timings to ensure I am never late for a meeting. I’ve always felt it lacking warnings for speed cameras to be an oversight and despite no notification this feature had been recently added, they just appeared. Great, so I thought. However, this is nothing short of useless. Rarely does it pick a camera up, on the odd occasion it does, it can often be just as you have passed one. It may as well announce “congratulations, you’ve just scored three points!” Given the importance of this feature, it needs to be removed until it is totally accurate and can be relied upon. It would also be great to have the speed limit of the road you are on displayed. Hopefully this will be added soon and the speed camera issue resolved.
Could be 5 Stars!
by Cav00001 on 2019/12/05 23:33
I travel frequently and have used a variety of different apps and websites to help me. Google is by far the best when it comes to public transport and walking. When it comes to driving however it is not quite there. Firstly there is no speedometer in the iPhone version of the app. Waze has this feature and it makes it so much easier when driving in a new place. Secondly I have come across an issue where on the odd journey the screen will have one set of instructions and the voice instructions tells you something completely different. For this reason I have given it 2 stars. With the speedometer and the occasional wrong voice instructions issue fixed this would be 5 stars and the go to app for all my travelling.
No streetview? The Palestine issue
by StarGenerator on 2020/08/04 07:43
Since the last update a couple days ago I think there's a lot of things been going on hasn't it Google but WHY remove streetview?! I use this all the time on Google Maps I am very disappointed because of that update. Make sure that you bring streetview back or everyone in the review will go nuts over it. I gave this a two star review because of this issue and hopefully Google can update the app again and bring streetview back. Remember Israel and Palestine both have different ideologies but more distinctive ones so I would suggest calling it Israel/Palestine for now to avoid backlashes. Palestinians need better representation to the world rather than be discriminated against. Google just man up and understand Palestinian politics not just Israeli politics.
Used to be the best now pants
by thebighotlemon on 2020/03/15 08:43
Title says it all but for clarification Google Maps used to be amazing, like literally the de facto standard in navigation, location and route planning software but is now a bloated mess of pants that you aren’t interested in. Suggestions, ads, mess, clutter and more mess. Oh and don’t forget the mess. Roll it back Google and maybe even charge people to use the simplified version which was all about finding your way. Oh, and I had to turn notification banners off because for the life of me I can’t find why I had a red notification number because the app is so bloated you can’t identify where the notification is coming from. I spent 10 minutes going through every single menu and ad banner and still the red notification number on the app icon. A massive 100% fail! 🤦🏻‍♂️
Good. Not as good as before.
by Updcreative on 2020/01/15 07:32
Traffic data has been a bit glitchy recently - even with a strong 4G signal. Tried refreshing a few times and resorted to using my ‘awful’ Volvo navigation / Apple Maps. Worst pint however, has to be losing the functionality for adding labels - specifically Home and Work. Every time I travel back home or to work, I used to click on the lane and use GMaps for traffic etc - however now it’s lost the labels, I have to manually enter the postcodes - such a faff, most days I don’t bother now. Please fix this. I’m sure it’s apples stupid IOS update that broke it, but it’s core to the UX of GMaps and all the forums are full of complaints.
Real time tracking lagging
by Wizkidx on 2019/10/05 06:21
This app used to work fine but it starting to cause so many issues for me. The map lags behind whilst I make my way towards my destination meaning I have to constantly stop restart it and look at the direction am going. This is dangerous and irritating as I am not able to provide warning to other drivers sooner than what I hope. Please fix this as it’s not just me. Also the pointer that indicates my direction of travel is a joke. It means I have to guess where I am going if the roads are confusing then I can see it it’s the right way. Also, google why don’t you add speed signs on so i know what speed I can travel at. The app is still way better than many in the market but please fix these bugs and I will raise it to 5 star

I can't believe that google hasn't implemented YouTube music into the navigation media control but has apple music in there??

by F1ddlest1x on 2021/04/01 11:40
It would seem in these times of Covid-19 when business is difficult, opposition can go in & “Blur” out your premises without as much as a question & no means to reinstate.

Needs to edit routes!
by afkbois on 2021/03/10 09:12
Does the job but there should be a feature that like on apple maps you can avoid toll booths you should be able to avoid width or weight restricted roads, so many smaller roads local and I’d rather not meet some pleb gunning it at 90 down a farm lane because the maps thought it was 0.08th of a second quicker, or for it to at least tell you so you don’t turn up to the turning and see it’s a hair witdth wider than your car, absolutely ridiculous

Update to 'New build' homes in Edinburgh
by CFall555 on 2021/03/05 00:00
An update needs to be made to add in addresses in Edinburgh streets such as Duntreath Place as there are new built houses and people living in them. I among others would like to add my address to my google maps app but unfortunately can't, because according to the 'Google Maps' application my house hasn't been built yet.

This is the first time I have used Carpet Tile Wholesale but I was exceptionally happy with the product and the service. We received samples quickly and the sales department answered the phones promptly and professionally. They had good product knowledge and were able to answer our enquiries and gave advice on the best products to consider for the purposes we required. Once ordered the product was delivered quickly. We were very happy with the end result. Excellent service from start to finish.

Can no longer just have a full screen map? Used to be able to do so. Icons cause burn in on OLED screens - no way to hide or minimise them. Will send you to the end of a dead road before telling you to u-turn. It used to tell you to “u-turn when possible”. It just keeps getting worse.

I can’t fault it.But there are two features that it could do with. 1.The ability to change the maximum speed that you can travel on different roads. E.g. 50 miles an hour on a motorway. 2. Do you ability to input a minimum Bridge height.

Delete this app now - Google is trying to worm its way around Apple's new privacy policies and hasn't been able to update this app in nearly three months for iOS users. Google is showing its true colours and not even hiding its contempt for iOS users who have used their products in good faith for years. Use Apple Maps instead. Apple isn't selling or making a profit from your data.

by Nutra D on 2021/02/20 10:43
Paragraph added on 20.2.2021: This review of my Google Maps experience has been blocked for a year by US monopolistic corporation Apple in order to cover up for a known corrupt massively CIA and NSA funded corporation called Google.

by sammy-jenkis on 2018/09/05 12:39
Always rely on Google Maps when we’re in the US, and especially liked the ‘Avoid Tolls’ option when you’re in a rental car and don’t want a hefty admin fee from the agency for going through a cashless toll.

Lexus Cardiff
by guvver on 2020/05/19 05:06
What an awesome company, they’ve looked after my Lexus since I purchased it in 2012, it runs as sweet as a nut.
