Description
An educational game to learn the location of notes on the fretboard of the guitar and other stringed instruments. Eleven instruments are available, including bass (4/5/6 strings), mandolin, ukulele and banjo. You are presented with a random note on the fretboard, and are offered a variety of choices for the correct answer. Just pick the button corresponding to the correct choice to score a hit! The new staff training mode also helps you learn the position of notes on the musical staff on the fretboard of your instrument. As your score gets better and you manage to identify notes faster across the entire fretboard, your working knowledge of the instrument increases! Game mode provides a fun way to make progress. Work your way through levels of increasing difficulty and compete with your friends! WHAT ARTISTS SAY ABOUT THE APP “ Learning the notes on the fretboard is key to any guitarist's development on the instrument, and [Fretuoso] is a neat way to get that info burned into your brain without having to carry a guitar with you everywhere you go. Pretty cool! ” -- Bryan Beller (Dethklok, Steve Vai, Mike Keneally) “ This is one of the best apps I've seen in a while. It's simple, fun and educational. Very useful for guitar players as a lot of [them] tend to play by ear and not care much about knowing the fretboard. ” -- Rick Musallam (Mike Keneally, Gryphon Labs) FEATURES - Train your ear while improving your working knowledge of the instrument. - Learn the position of notes on the musical staff; say goodbye to tabs! - Ten different beautiful, realistic-looking instruments! Includes 4 guitars, 3 basses, mandolin, ukulele and banjo. - Focus your training on particular parts of the fretboard: any range of frets, any subset of the strings. - Many common tunings are built in, but custom tunings can also be created. - Visualize your progress on the fretboard; statistics are kept for every fret. - Smart Learning Engine: the app automatically focuses on sections of the fretboard where you are weaker. - Integration with Game Center, Twitter and Facebook: compete with your friends and share your progress! - Left-handed mode is available. This version comes with free access to a limited subset of each of the available instruments. Each of the instruments can be fully unlocked via in-app purchase.
Great app

Had this app for just over a week and I feel like I’ve made good progress learning the notes in the free version for the first 6 frets And being able to check your stats to see your progress moving along I did take a screenshot after my first session and I was able to keep checking progress on how fast you take to hit the note and the percentage of hits to miss ratio which is good also by turning on notifications does remind me to do it each day thanks I will be buying the full app thanks

This app is great for learning the fretboard in every position, it’s very versatile and has other cool functions.
Game is broken
by Xandaloo on 2018/10/21 20:00
Great concept but contains an annoying bug which ruins the experience. Sometimes the game will give you the wrong notes. For example, it incorrectly mixes up a C Flat on the B string 2nd fret with a D Sharp on the third fret (same string). This has happened several times now so I can tell it isn’t just an isolated incident.
Ok but

Not Launching in Current Version
by Rob Zacher on 2017/08/23 10:23
Fantastic app, but as at 23/08/2017, the present version is not launching (iOS 10.3.3, iPhone 6S+). Easily a five-star app when working, though.
Good training tool

This the first time I have made a real effort to learn about my bass guitar. Trainer has made it interesting easy and fun. Wish I had it years ago
If you love guitar...........

A must for all guitarists who want to learn the notes of the fretboard. This app is simply the best app I've come across for learning the notes and is not like being in tuition. Learn at you pace when and wherever you want. Amazing app.

There are too many adverts in the free trial version and it does not say the paid for version is ad free.

Utter garbage

Ads, ads, ads, ads, crash.................worst guitar app ever. You'd learn more from playing an elastic band stretched over a shoe box.
Great way to learn the fretboard

I use this rather than play other games. It definitely helps you learn the fretboard. I like it a lot!
Need a tutorial
by Suzi duck 1001 on 2014/01/18 09:32
I can see the app being good, but it's very hard to work out the rules as your only given a test to get the answers right. Apart from that it think I could learn quite a lot from this :)
Very helpful
by Iseveryfrigginnicknametaken? on 2014/01/11 13:02
I've struggled with learning the fretboard and this has really helped me as i can take it anywhere so don't need to have a guitar. I have found the nut not always being visible has been an issue but other than that i like it.
Stupid
by Curiouslearner on 2013/12/24 01:17
The app is supposed to be named guitar quiz!!!!
Deceptive?
by yesithinkitsnice on 2013/09/11 09:11
When playing a game, the button to make an in app purchase of the instrument you're playing is *right* next to the answer buttons, either intentionally or negligently making it easy to press by accident. Once you do you are faced with two instant purchase options with no way to dismiss the dialogue box. You have to either make a purchase or exit the app and force quit (losing your current game). Can't play for more than a few mins without this happening and I'm suspicious that it's intended to be this way.
Great Development App
by Saligram on 2013/03/02 13:24
I Have always learned and played by ear, because i couldn't face the tedium of learning where everything was on the fretboard. But this App makes it cool to Learn and has helped me immensely.

Very Good, with room for improvement
by Sonicmint on 2011/12/31 11:26
This is one of the better fret training apps out there. Nice, slick interface and lots of instrument options. I agree with the other reviewer, a 'play the fret' mode would be a welcome addition to just 'guess the note being played'. 5 stars if you introduce this feature developers. This is not a guitar playing app (other apps will do that better) so ignore the review that gave this one star because it wasn't what they were expecting.
