Description
decibel meter Pro is the hottest, most feature packed decibel meter on the App Store! With killer graphics optimized for all devices! decibel meter Pro has been in the Top Utilities on iTunes since it's release! Download your copy today and find out why! * decibel meter Pro is TUAW's Daily iPad App July 5th, 2011! * "At US$0.99, decibel meter Pro is a bargain. It's a great tool for anyone who is concerned about noise levels or who needs a tool for measuring just how loud the neighbor's barking dog is." Useful, beautiful and lots of fun, decibel meter Pro is a must have app for your device! Simply launch the app and start reading the sound levels that surround you every day! Are these sound levels safe for my hearing? Want to know just how loud this club is? Just how loud is this lecture anyhow? How good is the sound isolation in this room? decibel meter Pro can help! Download decibel meter Pro and measure the sounds around you right now! decibel meter Pro is also included in our flagship app called Audio Tool. It is a complete bundle of handy audio apps, which can also be found on iTunes. The iPhone's built in microphone is sensitive from 0 to approximately 130 decibels. Why aren't you getting a 0 decibel reading in a quiet room? A decibel is an actual measurement of sound pressure and aside from a vacuum chamber or out in space 0 dB is not really possible to read. An average quiet room will be in the 40-50 dB range. Features: - A, B, C and Z (unweighted) frequency weightings! - Sensitivity Knob! Be as sensitive as you've always wanted to be! - Liquid rotating interface! 4 rotation modes! - Hold your device with the mic aimed at the source. The display will automatically rotate upside down for you. - Start or stop decibel meter Pro any time. - Easy to read interface with amazing graphics optimized for Retina displays! - Measure the sound levels around you, with ease! - Large digital and analog style readouts. - Average, Peak and Max level displays. - Reset the Max level readout by tapping on it's digital readout. - Calibrate the measurements plus or minus 15 decibels. - Decide whether or not you want your device to sleep while metering. - Reset settings to defaults.

The on/off button would be more useful to freeze the meter and preserve the peak while you make an adjustment to the source rig. To suppress a click from touching OFF the Peak could be reset to that of 1sec ago. Or the button could optionally take a screenshot or log the reading for later. Nice little app. Sadly I can’t get it to monitor the output from music or test-tones playing from iTunes on the phone. But I have a Macbook for that :-)

This has been very useful as a reference tool. I'm not sure how accurate the iPhone mic is compared to a pro meter, but it's a very good app with a nice interface. I really like the layout of this update and the weighting options. Can't really fault it, so 5 stars :)

I had same problem with frozen dials until I updated to ios5. App developers appear incapable these days of writing programs able to run on several platforms. I sympathise with those wish to stay with ios4. Apple believes it is advancing when the introduction of Lion version eliminates many programs(PC Power?). Classic worked fine when System 9 was replaced with OS X but Classic was soon dropped after after a few new versions. LETS HAVE BACKWARDS COMPATABLE OPERATING SYSTEMS! Sorry about the rant I, do like the App and it can be calibrated with hopefully some improvement in accuracy.

Problems
by Dulesgate on 2012/03/08 13:01
Used this for about half an hour but now it's stuck between 68 and 70dB. Absolutely useless. Wrote and asked for my money back and didn't even get a reply. The company have now replied and admit there is an issue with the app. They state that they have submitted an update to Apple which should solve the problem. Haven't yet tried this so we shall wait and see. Update to this, I have installed iOS5 on my iPad and the app appears to be working again. Final update - the company now appear to have sorted out the problems. They issued an update which, when installed, has sorted out the problems and the app runs fine. Top marks to them for admitting there was a problem in the first place and better still for actually sorting it out. Would now recommend this app.

by Mavs82 on 2011/06/22 17:31
When I downloaded this app 2 months ago it worked well and was amazingly accurate when measured against a 'real' Db meter. It was easy to use and measured all the way up to 149Db (I work in an airport...). HOWEVER, since the last update, everything measures at 69 or 70 Db and peak and max are just a long list of seemingly random numbers. The app is now useless and needs fixing fast, before I go elsewhere....

This app is not accurate will not read below 50db even in a very quiet room and that's with offset at -10db Select another app If accuracy is required graphics are nice though shame its not accurate.

Quite fun...

This seems to work pretty well. Today it locked up for a while following an upgrade to iOS 5.1, but seems fine now. Quite useful and fun for 69p.
Problems
by Dulesgate on 2012/03/08 13:01
Used this for about half an hour but now it's stuck between 68 and 70dB.

Its stuck on 68/70 and the peak/average are all over the place. I wish I listened to the other reviews. I will hapily withdraw my negative review if they can fix it so it does what it should do.

Decibel Meter
by Fat-Boy-1450 on 2011/07/18 18:45
Works OK for me; tested it against a profession dB meter and got good results.
Good app goes bad.....
by Mavs82 on 2011/06/22 17:31
When I downloaded this app 2 months ago it worked well and was amazingly accurate when measured against a 'real' Db meter. It was easy to use and measured all the way up to 149Db (I work in an airport...). HOWEVER, since the last update, everything measures at 69 or 70 Db and peak and max are just a long list of seemingly random numbers. The app is now useless and needs fixing fast, before I go elsewhere....
Db meter pro
by Dunnyrail on 2011/06/22 06:57
Do not like the change from the simple meter that I origonally bought to the uninteligable double clock type that the app has been changed to. Will now have to buy another app to replace this one.Conned. Dunnyrail -1000 out of 100 for changing a good app needlesly.

Good app. Very useful and seems accurate. From general noise (60db) to my Motorbike passing it's MOT noise limit (94db). Even clocked rock bands playing at 138!!.. Great and all who have seen it have been well impressed. Great app. Thanks.
OK!
by 1YT on 2011/04/09 21:38
Generally a good app with clear, easy to read displays. Its only fault is the MAX scale only goes to 100db..it will get a 5 star rating from me when it's expanded.

I don't usually download apps with no reviews, but the screen shots looked pretty slick so I took a chance and decided to buy this app. I was not disappointed, this app works extremely well on my iPhone 4 and looks much better than the other decibel meter apps. Gets the thumbs up from me.
Great!

by Bobo3d on 2010/08/29 09:56

Really great app
by GingeHaynes on 2016/12/13 20:54
This has been very useful as a reference tool. I'm not sure how accurate the iPhone mic is compared to a pro meter, but it's a very good app with a nice interface. I really like the layout of this update and the weighting options. Can't really fault it, so 5 stars :)
Reprogram!
by Dotty Dashed on 2016/12/13 08:11
I had same problem with frozen dials until I updated to ios5. After all, most new versions only give us even more ways of doing the same thing and making it look different! Sorry about the rant I, do like the App and it can be calibrated with hopefully some improvement in accuracy.
Suggestion
by Oooklout on 2018/01/24 17:24
The on/off button would be more useful to freeze the meter and preserve the peak while you make an adjustment to the source rig. To suppress a click from touching OFF the Peak could be reset to that of 1sec ago. Or the button could optionally take a screenshot or log the reading for later. Nice little app. Sadly I can’t get it to monitor the output from music or test-tones playing from iTunes on the phone. But I have a Macbook for that :-)
Good app
by Peemo72 on 2016/04/21 23:13
Stylish, works well and frankly it's more than accurate enough for what it is - if it isn't accurate enough go spend the money for a real one!
Update does not work on IOS 11.2
by cheeckchap on 2017/12/07 05:02
Installed this latest update and when opening the app it requests access to the microphone but the privacy settings for the microphone on my iPhone do not show this app as being available to grant microphone access resigning the updated app as useless. Where is the developer testing prior to app update release!
