SoundLevel: Decibel Reading
Description
Sound Level is a simple but powerful tool for getting a quick sound reading of the current environment. The readings have been calibrated to dBA, which is a weighting that matches the human ear, and Sound Level provides comparison values so you know what the sound is equal to. All results are graphed so you can go back in time and take a look. If you have the pro features (a one time in-app purchase), you even have the ability to export your results as a CSV file! Key features: * Quick sound level measurements * Beautiful, intuitive UI * Peak and max volume count * Baseline sound comparisons Sound Level is that must have app for quick and painless sound measurements.
Crashes on export
by Mdjh201252 on 2017/04/10 20:43
I upgraded to pro specifically to be able to export to CSV but it crashes every time I try to use it. Totally useless to me. Please fix the bug or refund me.
Useless

When will Apple learn, what's the point of putting an app it's site that just don't work? Useless!!! Take these useless things off and stop wasting people's time.

Previous version worked ok. It was not too accurate but gave good guidance. Sadly the latest version crashes immediately on opening. This is an iOS3x vs iOS4x fault. It needs the coding tweeking for older systems - please?
Inaccurate? Understatement of the year.
by Madattak on 2011/01/06 21:08
According to this my breathing is70db and me talking is 90 db. I just did science at school today and we were doing sound. A pneumatic drill is 90db and people talking are 49db so this is entirely inaccurate
Good

It's free and it works, better than the other free ones.
Pretty good

Not the most accurate but good for free app :)
Great free app
by Bisto1911 on 2010/07/25 09:24
It does what it says on the box and it's free. It's not hugely accurate but you get what you pay for.
Great Free App

I dont know why people are rubbishing this, any decibel meter wont give a constant exact reading unless you're in a sound proof lab.I tried this with turning the stereo up & it read around 85db,closer to speaker circa 100,then as it came to a lul in the track it lowered to above 30 then rose again. For the people it doesnt work for i can only imagine they've miss-handled theyre device.I wouldnt suppose it's the most accurate in the world but it works perfectly fine and gives a good reading.great lil app for a freebie
Good App
by The Haddock on 2010/05/03 08:10
Does exactly as I expected... Can't understand the negative reviews... Reccomended...
Good Value!!
by Simba G on 2010/05/01 08:25
Now I really don't understand the people slating this FREE app!! It does exactly what it's supposed to, you switch it on and it works!! The only thing it doesn't is give you a maximum reading, which BTW is what the paid app gives you, albeit too quickly by all accounts. If you have a sustained sound you're trying to read then this does the job, as long as you don't need it to be massively accurate (+/-2db), if you want it to measure the loudest then you're better off going for one of the other paid apps.
Basic and free
by AjAcker on 2010/04/21 16:49
Basic but seems to be able to monitor sound levels. Clicking fingers near mic was around 60db and blowing in the mic was around 40db. Could do with a larger scale and maybe ability to capture or pause level Reading. Can't grumble for free though.
Rubbish
by Wotsits girl on 2010/04/13 19:14
I think this app is rubbish but no offence 2 the people who like this app!
Works as well as expected
by Shugg M on 2010/03/24 20:36
Have tried a few of these decibel meters on my iPod Touch 2nd gen and this is the only free one that delivers. Obviously an approximate level, but what do you expect for free?
Useless, completely useless
by Tugley1 on 2010/01/31 11:06
Everything is 70db according to this crappy appy
Works fine
by Diziet on 2010/01/07 21:46
Works fine on my normal 3g. Does what it says as far as I can tell. Once you click past the splash screen telling you to upgrade the meter works and you get a small add at the top. The other complainers really didn't try very hard I think. Passing vehicles about twenty yards away are around 65. Lots of air con and computers are 80-85 accordig to this. Recommended.
Steer clear.
by Freddo_08 on 2009/12/29 19:50
Thought this was good but a waste of time and a dissapointment to other free apps.
Pointless
by RichardWe on 2009/11/29 18:15
I don't see the point in a free version that doesn't do anything except advise you to upgrade to the paid version. Doesn't work; no good.
Poor, but free.
by Coolnfunky on 2009/11/22 15:40
It's poor, has no options, and the needle is all over the place. Prob ok for a rough idea, but I didn't stick with it long enough to calibrate it. And there are ads. I'd avoid it, even though it's free. This app encourages me to avoid the paid for version! Go get a better spl for 59p elsewhere.

For a free app, this is pretty good! The mic built into the iPhone isn't going to cut it as a pro Db meter but it's good for an approx reading.

No problems.
by Mobiplar on 2009/07/30 18:47
Works for me. Watching simpsons on tv and it picks up the sound really well. Turned up volume and the needle shoots up accordingly. Not bad. Except for the ads. But it's free, so what the hey. Not bad.
