Really works!

I’ve been trying to learn the notes on my guitar for a while now, but the problem is when you sit at your guitar and do it you just end up noodling as it quickly becomes very boring. This app though removes any distractions and makes it become a bit of a challenge in trying to reach ‘master’ level all across the fretboard. It becomes really addictive and you can quickly learn all the notes.
This changes everything!
by ATEARNE on 2020/03/25 13:39
Wow! Finally. In 30 mins I fluently know all the notes on the first 3 frets. This is so good!!
Almost great! Double answers though...

I’m using the paid guitar version and absolutely love this app but have run into a frustrating issue: doing the ‘name chord’ game having the root revealed makes it way too easy, but having the root hidden makes the game tell me some answers are wrong when they’re not. If including chords where there could be more than one root, such as aug, dim7 or sus2/sus4 the app sometimes offers more than one correct answer but punishes me for choosing the ‘wrong’ one, e.g. it shows me G, C, D, which could be a Gsus4 or a Csus2, but the answers include include both, and only Gsus4 is correct because it decided the root (which I can’t see) was the G. Can you please fix this by making sure the answers only ever show one correct answer? I appreciate the app may have one dedicated root even if you don’t want it shown, so I think the fix would be to make a list of ‘don’t show these together’ and include any matches in that list. Hope that makes sense, it’s a great app otherwise! P.S. I’m a guitar teacher and a great feature to add would be to specify the notes in ‘name note’ to fit within a scale, so not just all sharps and flats between frets 0 and 4, but just G major, so only F# and naturals for others. If we could include multiple scales it could add them in any order, but probably listing in circle of 5ths would make sense (so naturals, then add F# or Bb, then C# or Eb, etc.)
Good.

The accidentals on the staff game are in white, making them very hard to see. Other than that, decent app.
Incredible!!!

This app is so fantastic! This is exactly what I was looking for! A gamified and super visual way to master the fretboard, and it had loads of hidden surprises in the form of other games - eg. Matching staff notes to the fret board, identifying triads, an INCREDIBLY comprehensive list of scales (I think there’s over 50) to explore in all keys, instantly visualised on the fretboard... Fantastic! I’m so excited! Just to be clear, I paid to unlock the guitar fully as soon as I bought the app (only £1.99), so these are full features. It blows my mind that you can do this in multiple instruments too! Thank you Mr. Developer for such an incredible app! It’s beautiful :’)

The App Store is flooded with apps like this but this one is one of the best. Top marks for allowing to change to 4ths tuning and having a smooth interface that work well on my iPad and iPhone. Feature request: Would love to have an interval identification game. Will pay again for this feature.
Hard to buy one instrument.

Please get back to me. App may be good. Hard to buy an instrument. Wanted just ukulele. Had to buy all as only option. And hard to get payment to go through.worried I paid several times over? Stefan

Just paid to unlock the guitar. This is a great app for getting familiar with the fret board. But was hoping after the purchase that the note/chord chosen would also sound when you got an answer right, instead of a bleep. Would help train the ear then also. Would have gone for 5 stars. Could you add it as a feature request?
Pay Again?

I have already written a review for this app expressing my disappointment that I was bombarded by adverts while using it but it seems the developer chose not to publish it. I downloaded it onto an older (but ok) iPad from my purchases and found that the instruments were locked. When I tried to unlock them I was asked if I wanted to buy them (again). No way. Update after reply from developer ; All credit to developer for speedy response to my review and the advice given to unlock all instruments worked so I withdraw that negative criticism. I play guitar, mandolin and uke and explored the app in more detail and am suitably impressed with the overall quality. Therefore I have increased my previous rating to 4 stars. I maintain that including adverts in the app is a poor decision by the developer to increase revenue and it still may mean I lose interest in due course. After all if I took piano lessons I wouldn’t expect the teacher to tell me about bargains in the local market. I didn’t pay for adverts.
Great support from developer.

Update: as of version 2.1 the bugs I mention below seem to be fixed as per dev’s comments. I’ve upped my score based on this but will revisit once I’ve had a chance to play more! The game types based around the staff are broken and don’t work at all (iPhone 6S) Treble Clef seems to have “B” on the bottom line, “G” on the top line, and doesn’t use the lines that SHOULD be G, C or E *at all* Shame - as I have other fret trainer games (which I don’t really need) and it was only the sight-reading aspect which made this potentially interesting to me.
