A handy app to conduct initial noise meter reading to determine if you require a socialist acoustic engineer. It would be handy to know how accurate the app is.

Monthly subscription?!
by Adrian26Th on 2021/04/15 15:25
For this?! Edit: After receiving the developer response I went back and installed the app again to see where the free mode was hiding. There is indeed a free mode but the subscription screen is on a dark background with the skip button a very faint X in the top left corner. Judging by the number of people complaining about the aggressive selling tactics and the subscription, I am definitely not the only one to have missed that X button. This app also has a suspicious number of five star reviews which may or may not be genuine. You'd think dB meter apps the new rage. Upgraded review from 1 star to 4 stars because it has a free mode indeed but deducted 2 stars because of the deceptive X button. It could easily be a genuine 5 star if that screen had the skip option as visible as the two premium options.

Bug in version 7.3.7
by gattacaHQ on 2021/02/12 09:06
Usually a great app, but this version has a problem. All the animated graphs are sluggish on iPhone X and iOS 14.4. It’s as if the frame rate has dropped, making the graph seem slow and choppy, unlike previous versions which have been completely smooth and highly responsive. I have tried completely quitting the app but this makes no difference.

Good basic dB app
by stupidaskingforanickname on 2020/08/24 21:58
I finally got an opportunity to use this app to measure the exhaust noise of my motorbike. I knew it was loud, so I had bought some wadding to muffle it. I wanted to have a measurable difference. I made sure to rest my iPhone in the same place for each test. I ran the bike at tickover, then at 2,000, 3,000 and 4,000 revs per minute (rpm). I then removed the baffles and repeated the tests. I then added some wadding to the baffles and replaced them into the exhausts and repeated the tests. The readings seemed a bit higher than I was expecting, but it isn’t a calibrated app and anyway, I was more interested in the comparisons than the actual numbers. It was interesting to see the comparisons, and especially to note that, throughout the Rev range, to dB count was about 3dB lower with the wadding fitted than it was without. This means that, although it is still a bit loud, there is about half the sound pressure being emitted. This should prove to make the bike less annoying to non-enthusiasts. For this kind of test, the app is easy to use. There are other features that I haven’t tried yet. For my purposes, it’s a good app.

Only had this for a day but it seems really useful. For what I need it for I am sure it is accurate enough, the info and help files look comprehensive with lots of technical info which would leave me to believe it is quite accurate. I have noticed one problem. The average reading slowly goes down to be the same as the minimum reading which is obviously wrong. In a test over a minute I had a maximum of 52 and a minimum of 23 with an average of 23!!! Update. Since writing about the above problem with the average, the developer got back to me the same day to say he had found an error and would correct it in the next couple of days. I have to say that is impressive, not only that the reviews are monitored but that the problem is sorted out so speedily. Good one. 😊

Honestly why don’t you just say that it’s a 3 day trial and then a subscription? Stop wasting my time. I need a decibel meter for one afternoon so I guess I can use this but really just be honest and tell me upfront so I don’t waste time downloading your app when I don’t want to be dealing with subscriptions etc
Great App
by OnEdEl on 2020/06/08 01:18
App works great, does what it says. App is as described & useful. Can’t comment on accuracy as had no stand alone decibel metre to compare it against but it seems to be roughly correct as what I’d expect. There is a premium version that may be worth it for certain users but the free version is great for 99% of users. Hearing test feature is nice touch also. FYI: If you want to check noise level of a Bluetooth speaker connected to your phone, it won’t work as it pauses the music as soon as you open app. This may, in part, be down to Apple. It would be great to see developers create a workaround (must be possible as snapchat uses camera and mic and leaves music playing). Not so much of a criticism but a suggestion for future updates.

Good... if not for aggressive selling tactics
by greekgoddj on 2020/02/21 22:15
Tried the free version of this and liked it. Liked it enough that I went to buy it and that is where the developer lost me. There are numerous add ons with very similar names that don’t indicate the differences. There is also a subscription option... yet another company trying to tap into this model. This product can’t justify an ongoing cost. Lastly it resorts to pressure sales tactics such as “buy for half price ONLY available for the next *30 seconds*!” Really? You decided to resort to such tactics? So as much as I was keen to buy (yes I do believe the item is worth paying for the developer’s efforts), that sales tactics put me off. Vlad I see others have given similar feedback, perhaps it is worth reconsidering the business side of things 😉
Subscription scheme is a rip-off
by Timloans on 2020/02/20 17:48
Charging a £14.49 monthly subscription fee after the 3-day trial expires, compared to £18.49 for 1 year subscription, and £7.99 one-off charge for 1 month use. Clearly aiming to rip off users who for whatever reason forgot to cancel their subscription after the trial period. Very sneaky!

Great App For Noise Measurement

Hi, tried this app and thought it was brilliant. Great at monitoring noise levels without any expensive equipment. All I needed was my phone and the noise source to record the levels. Good app, but be careful as accidental purchase of App is too easy.
by sn-reciew on 2018/12/08 11:26
App is great, but the pop up messages can give rise to accidental purchases. Initially I felt quite angry, though got a refund from Apple. Moreover, the developer responded thoroughly, thoughtfully, and professionally. I think he is genuinely trying to build a great app, but is just struggling to stop accidental purchases. These seem the only problems reducing his AppStore rating, and so I am certain that he knows it is in his interests to correct the situation. On the basis that I would prefer to help a developer, than blame him for how easy Apple makes purchasing with touch or faceID I have adjusted my review from 1 to 4 stars. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is the problem around the App purchase design. Which I am sure he will be making efforts to improve.

by s....:123: on 2019/08/24 23:12
Ive used this with view to buying full version. I have severe tinnitus & hyperacusis & need to know noise levels are safe that I'm in. Since recent update its randomly starts showing levels 112db to 124db when there isnt a noise to match it. People around say its not loud & another bd meter says its 62. Its worrying that it throws out these bursts of inaccuracy. Its put me off buying the full 9.99 version. Im giving another app a trial now. Shame as this is easy to read & use, unfortunately inaccurate on times.

Great App For Noise Measurement
by Ron DG82 on 2020/01/04 19:30
Hi, tried this app and thought it was brilliant. Great at monitoring noise levels without any expensive equipment. All I needed was my phone and the noise source to record the levels. It was great at helping my two boys (Aged 5 & 7) realise how to control the volume of their voices too. Numbers with equivalent noise levels were very insightful.
Clean, clear, simple, magnificent

dB Meter does exactly what it advertises with a clean interface, clear options for operation and simplicity that just works when you open the app. Thanks very much 👍

Doesn’t make sense
by 999999999999900 on 2019/10/30 11:24
This app shows DB higher as sound is less ,showing -120db when clearly not , the louder the noise the lower the value the quieter the higher the value ,DB a not accurate showing noisy fan as whisper quiet ,maybe its me but no clear straight reading for normal people ,all i want to know is my item too loud that neighbours will be disturbed and cant get that answer here
My review
by maisy ford on 2020/03/25 11:09
I like the app because you can explorer how different sounds have different volumes and how you can just test different sounds and have fun with it

Usually a great app, but this version has a problem. All the animated graphs are sluggish on iPhone X and iOS 14.4. I don’t know whether it’s accurate (as I don’t own an actual dB meter!) but it certainly looks the part and seems to be very responsive; even to tiny changes in background noise.

Pressure Selling
by Dariusaj on 2019/09/15 21:37
Not a bad app, but it just offered me 30 seconds to decide on a “one time offer” to buy pro. This is a dishonest selling tactic (illegal in many countries), and frankly, Apple should (and maybe would) remove this app from the store just for that. Devs, don’t bother replying with some boilerplate bull___t answer; I don’t want to hear it unless you’re actually cleaning your act up.
Beware it tricking you into upgrade
by David Hemming on 2018/11/11 12:26
I was using this App and recording the sound levels, suddenly the screen changed to ask if I wanted to upgrade, I couldn’t see a way to clear the screen so pressed the Touch ID button to close the app, it then thanked me for buying the upgraded version for £9.99 This is not how to sell Apps, I have reported it to Apple and have had the charges refunded. Reply to developer. If you want to sell the Pro version properly then don’t use a pop up system while the free version is being used. It is obviously a trick. The app is very good but no one wants to be cheated into a purchase.

Very dubious marketing practices
by pteron on 2018/11/10 12:21
I like the look of this app, but the pop up after a few minutes with a 30 second countdown offering a one time chance to get a discount on the app is really shady practice - you can't possibly have used it enough to know if it's worth paying for. So it's a no from me.
That's good.

Keeps covering the meter reading screen with a page trying to get you to buy the pro version. Don't mind saying no once- but not everytime I use it. Sorry- good app but being spoiled by upgrade prompt.
Tricks you into purchasing
by Ryu128 on 2020/02/14 22:09
You get to a screen where the only option is click continue which then purchases the pro version with no option to close or back out. Please avoid and download a more honest app.
Tricks you into buying full version! Beware
by Croyk on 2018/07/10 13:39
Make sure you disable Touch ID on your phone as this app is designed to trick you into buying the full version when you open it. If you touch the home button it will go ahead with the purchase. Scam.
Hard to evaluate
by Matt runner 111 on 2018/01/23 00:26
I appreciate that the makers of this app want to make money, but it is impossible to evaluate it fully as it presents a lock screen prompting the user to upgrade to a paid version, or redirects to the Apple App Store, within 30s of opening.

I compared results taken in the app against a professional hearing test centre - the app was on par. Good product.. and I also wanted to buy a generator but was concerned about the noise from the petrol engine, however with this app I was able to play music equal to the generators claimed DB output to gauge what it would be like to live with & without needing to buy one...

Great App For Noise Measurement
by Ron DG82 on 2020/01/04 19:30
Hi, tried this app and thought it was brilliant. Great at monitoring noise levels without any expensive equipment. All I needed was my phone and the noise source to record the levels. It was great at helping my two boys (Aged 5 & 7) realise how to control the volume of their voices too. Numbers with equivalent noise levels were very insightful.

Looks a good one
by Capt flint on 2020/08/03 17:09
Only had this for a day but it seems really useful. Good one. 😊

Hearing test & sound metre
by mrpauly on 2021/03/16 09:22
I compared results taken in the app against a professional hearing test centre - the app was on par. Good product.. and I also wanted to buy a generator but was concerned about the noise from the petrol engine, however with this app I was able to play music equal to the generators claimed DB output to gauge what it would be like to live with & without needing to buy one...
Unreliable
by s....:123: on 2019/08/24 23:12
Ive used this with view to buying full version.
It could easily be a genuine 5 star if that screen had the skip option as visible as the two premium options.

by 999999999999900 on 2019/10/30 11:24
This app shows DB higher as sound is less ,showing -120db when clearly not , the louder the noise the lower the value the quieter the higher the value ,DB a not accurate showing noisy fan as whisper quiet ,maybe its me but no clear straight reading for normal people ,all i want to know is my item too loud that neighbours will be disturbed and cant get that answer here

I have tried completely quitting the app but this makes no difference.

by Chicken's Nose on 2020/10/12 08:24
